Review Honey Rider Bar & Brewery - Neutral Bay

Good for a drink after work or dinner, good brews and range of craft beer - plenty of space now that the extra area to the left is added with nice low light. Nice crew and some live music.

Great local venue. Covid certainly hasn't helped this local business over last few years, well worth supporting if you leave in the area.

Friendly staff, nice beers, decent happy hour with bar games and comfortable seats. Cool decor!

Great fun atmosphere - great to take a few mates to and play some darts or have a pizza. Was quiet the Wed night we stopped in - had a bit of fun with the bar staff. Will be back. Good location with a local feel and good music and staff.

A clean and tidy venue with a decent selection of beer and wine

Love this bar! Staff are friendly, has a relaxed vibe, and the craft beer and cocktail selection are on point. Decor is cool, you can tell they have made an effort to bring their personality into that. I've been coming to Honey Rider occasionally for a few years and they have maintained their standards and I have adapted to being COVID-Safe very well. Thanks for the good times HR and for making me feel safe.

New to the area and have been searching for my new local for the past 2 months. Went to this unassuming hole in the wall bar and the vibe was great. The owner of the pub was very welcoming and shared a laugh or two. Sweet bar! See you next week!

Phil and his team accommodated my group at the last minute when our plans fell through because of the crazy heat last weekend!! Everybody had a blast... afternoon of great music, fab cocktails and exceptional service :)

Held our engagement party at this venue, had a fantastic time in a well-sized place. Great in-house brewed beers, good small selection of wines and always friendly service.

The cutest hole in the wall, with a nice hipster vibe. A strong craft beer smell hit us as we walked in, but it only made us thirsty for that exact beverage. A very nice date place for two.

This place was quiet on a Sunday evening. Typical hipster bar on the North shore. Reminds me of the bar from the TV show 'cheers', has that time warped feel, but pleasant at the same time.
Considering that it was quiet, can't comment on too much on the service as we were the only ones there! If you're in the neighbourhood, it's worth the visit, but wouldn't come all the way just to visit this bar!

Dirty, dingy dive -- don't waste your time/money here. Was visiting from out of town and just wanted to grab a quick drink with friends. Came to Honey Rider and was thoroughly disappointed. This wannabe hipster bar smells of mildew. The tables were filthy, with that wet dog smell that comes from using an unclean rag. We brought this up to one of the guys behind the bar and just asked them to give the table another wipe, but he just rolled his eyes and ignored us. By this point, we had already ordered drinks. When we got them, one of our friends noticed a greasy lip stain on her glass and so we asked the bartender for another glass, and he just replied with a snarky "what now?!?" Needless to say, at this point we were done with this place, finished our drinks (except for the one in the dirty glass) and just paid and left. I suggest anyone reading this avoid this place, unless you want to drink out of dirty glasses, sit at smelly tables and be abused by the staff. I should have read the reviews below, as the poor service seems to be a consistent trend here
Best Small Bars
Honey Rider is taking a step forward to give people a real alternative drinking spot. It's not just a small bar.

Honey Rider will tickle your fancy if you have never been to a new, hip bar, as it will fool you into thinking that it is one. It has pretty awesome drinks, and the staff is cool, but it is not exactly the hottest ticket in town. It's more of a place you'd go to if you worked next door for a cocktail at the end of the day, and a yarn with the boys behind the bar, who seem like the sort who'd build up great rapport with regulars.

This small bar on the border of Neutral Bay and Cremorne has utilised recycled and refurbished materials to create a sleek and contemporary bar with artful nostalgia. Quite an elegant and romantic feel achieved with touches of greenery and candlelight. The vibe is relaxed and friendly. It's exactly what the pub/piano club dominated neighbourhood needs.

Funky frames, artworks in the bathroom, upside down pot plants and a good wine list.

Hidden treasure. Looking for a cool bar, nice wine, intimate atmosphere and great tunes on a weekend?
Honey Rider fits the bill ...
The rows of tall bar tables in particular work great for groups of 2-6 to get together
Not so good for food but Tuesday's half-price pizza is definitely work a try

Very poor service and rude management. Was absolutely distgusted ....the owner refused me entry because i rated it one star on facebook. the owner said unless i change it he wont let me in.... have never been more appalled with unprofessional bahaviour...do not go here.....

Great place for a night out. Unlike the unhappy customer below, when I turn up here close to their licensed closing time of midnight and order a drink, I don't muck about. The staff here are always friendly, apologize if things take longer than expected, and farewell you. They don't mind making something off menu, and certainly react better to polite customers who ask nicely. In the same way as anyone in hospitality.

They are also super strict about their licensing conditions as they want to stay in business. No under 18s and no staying past 12.20am.

Overpriced drinks, rude staff and slow service - Avoid this place. Rude staff and overpriced drinks, don't bother with this place. We had drinks with a group of friends here on Friday. Service was incredibly slow and bar staff was happily cleaning their glasses and doing other tasks rather than serving drinks, all while there was a queue at the bar.

We were about to leave as we noticed the place was closing up, we were waiting for our friend to finish her drink when the bar staff came by and just snatched her glass and said "we're closed". It was rude and uncalled for, He could have just given her a minute to finish or at least some heads up before just taking the drink. Based on other reviews I've read, I guess this has happened more than once.

Would avoid this place for its general lack of service, overpriced drinks, slowness and rude staff.

Terrible, just terrible. Bar has a nominal drinks list and just terrible music that is out of place for a small bar. Service is appalling with myself and friends being told to finish drinks immediately after midnight. Upon us trying to enjoy our drinks we were thrown out at 12.20am, after just buying our drinks. These people don't understand service and should not be in business!

Service nightmare. This place is a joke. I am a local and have spent literally thousands of dollars in this bar. I took some colleagues to this bar after dinner, bought many rounds, some just prior to midnight. Just after midnight we were told to finish our drinks or we would be charged double!!!!!
We said that is ridiculous, the response to which.. At 12.20am mind you, was to confiscate our drinks and throw us out.
The bar manager at this time was 'Lee", apparently the owner was "Phil". Whom upon complaint did absolutely nothing.
If you you value service avoid this place at all costs. In addition, their scotch list is abismal, avoid!!!

Weirdest bar on earth. Was there early, 4 clients in the room including me. 2 barmen who never talked to me Couldn't get a drink. I had to go back to the oaks, where they understand that if you want to be in the business of selling $20 cocktail you need a minimum of client service, like, for example saying "hello"

The balding mid thirties DJ was pumping dreadful 'beats' at a totally inappropriate level for such a small bar. When I asked the bar tender if they wouldn't mind turning down the music just a fraction he rolled his eyes at me and said 'yeah, no way'. Initially I thought it was a joke but he insisted, and said he would send the manager to see us. When the manager came down I asked him the same question and he laughed in my face. He said 'no, and I can't believe he (the bar tender) wasted my time with this'. Okay, it's their bar, fair enough if they didn't want to turn down the music, however, the way they dealt with us as customers was appalling. The five of us (which at that point constituted half of the patronage at the bar) left and I'll never buy another drink there again. Also what kind of bar tender serves a gin and tonic in a short glass anyway.
Big Appetite
The place just feels like it is trying too hard. Its like it wants to be a hipster bar, but just isnt. The two occasions I've been there, the bar's owner has been rude and the customers consisted of a small handful of lone males looking through their Facebook feeds on their iPhones while drinking their beer alone, seemingly not even interested in a conversation ... Zero atmosphere. They do have a few nice beers though.

Good Times And Great Vibes. Named after Ursula Andress's sexy Bond girl character in Dr. No - Honey Rider is a great small bar addition to the Neutral Bay strip on Military Road. Boasting 4 x taps of regularly rotating craft beers, a decent selection of spirits, and a good range of cocktails, Honey Rider is bound to please. Food-wise, there's a compact section of bar snacks, and 4 x styles of THE TASTIEST pizza's you'll find the Lower North Shore. The interior space is narrow, long, and recently renovated, with seats at the bar, 4 x high tables lining the the exposed-brick wall, and a set of old theatre seats and a comfy couch down the back. The staff are super friendly, always up for a laugh, and know their stuff! Definitely worth a visit!
