Review Against The Grind - Neutral Bay

Irene
Very mixed feelings about Against the Grind. Pros: great quality food, great selection of sweets, Campos coffee roasted and done right. The inside sitting area is cozy and spacious, and plenty of external sitting area on a quiet street. Also love the deli where you can buy freshly cut cold meets, cheese and other deli products. 5 out of 5 for food, coffee and atmosphere. Cons: the service is inefficient and this seems to be consistent over a period of time. It takes a long time to get a coffee and/or the food when having it in. Last time we asked for table water several times and took a while to get it. 2 out of 5 for the service. Hope the service aspect can be improved as otherwise it is a great place!

One of the busiest little places in Neutral Bay. Highly recommend the chicken sausage and egg roll. Tried the Magic Coffee. Brilliant feed while killing time and doing some work.

Lovely spot for cafe food! The coffees were amazing and I loved the produce they sold here too. Didn’t leave empty handed.

The brekkie fried rice was horrible. The rice was literally steamed not fried. There were literally three small slices of Chinese sausage. Highly disappointed I had to get a second meal elsewhere because I was starving at the end of it. I would give this dish zero stars if I could.

We had a light lunch here comprised of a tuna poke bowl and prosciutto cotta panini. Both were nice, with very clean flavours.

Unfortunately many of the reviews here seem to be on point. Being new to the neighbourhood was keen on finding a regular breakfast spot. The customer service staff left much to be desired - our staff was downright rude. We were hoping the food would provide some redemption: however the food managed to be cold by the same it got us (we were dining in). I realize it can be stressful in the morning but sadly this fell way below expectations.

Had a real quick coffee and sweet in the morning before heading to Work. Best coffee and lots of pastries options cant wait to try them all. Menu looks good. Definitely will come back. It was busy but worth to wait.

We have been here for breakfast and it was pretty solid so we decided to give dinner a go. Breakfast was not bad, it was just that the wait was so ludicrous we were annoyed half of our meal turned up and the other half came 30 mins later. Dinner was great, however. The let down was the pasta which had a very sweet taste to it - just the balance of flavours were off, and mushroom pastas have so much potential to shine. The pate was wonderful and the corn spectacular. Looking forward to visiting again to try other items on the menu.

I have been in Sydney for over a month and I eventually missed a good prosciutto, been recommend this place from a friend and I tried their amazing prosciutto crudo and mozzarella, best products I had in ages, good espresso too. Definitely a place where to go for a delicious breakky at a good price too!! Good work guys!

Best coffee around - Hoky's coffee art is a nice touch, Davide's prosciutto is delicious and the salted caramel choc chip cookies are to die for

Just the best coffee.

This cafe is located on Young Street. Lots of people dining here with its fair share of takeaways too. There was outdoor seating so took a seat and was served shortly afterwards. I just had a Mocha and an Almond Friand. The coffee used is Campos Coffee. It was a nice blend and went well with the cake. Service is friendly too.

Against the grind is for me the most reliably good coffee in Neutral Bay. Iced lattes are some of the best around; great balance between milkyness and wonderful espresso flavour. Their food is also very good; they put effort into sourcing high quality ingredients and it shows. Their new deli selection is fantastic. They have a truly superb selection of the finest cured meats and other products, including some of their own home made stuff (the octopus and the anchovies in vinegar are absurdly good).

Consistently great coffee, staff are super friendly and efficient despite busy times, great variety of food to choose from or build your own meals.

Great coffee, great service. One of my favourite local cafes. Had the Brooklyn Boy Bagel with smoked salmon when I came for brunch and it was so good! Would definitely recommend this place!

I’ve been here a dozen times and it’s always been great! The coffee is always great, and the avocado toast is consistent (I’ve had it like five times). One of my favourite cafes around the neutral bay area.

A fantastic new addition to the cafe society of Neutral Bay! Been here a couple of times now and there is always a crowd waiting for takeaway coffees! The menu is simple, yet satisfying! Started with Greek yoghurt w honey, walnuts and berries! Then onto the hot stuff.... Turkish toast, poached eggs, avocado and tomato! Delicious and good quality produce! Also a sneaky moist orange blossom cake ensures I possibly don’t need lunch! The coffee is Campos and it certainly brings the customers coming back!
