Review Buddhalicious Burger - Neutral Bay

This place is going to be on the top of my list! The wasabi wagyu beef burger was juicy! Yumm! Even The prawn katsu slider was crunchy and generous on the prawns. And the onion rings were just best! It has a different spice on the outer layer not like the regular ones. Loved the flavor. Definitely going to try their other burgers next time.

I want to start by saying that I had a generally positive experience here, the food was great in general. Everything was well priced and I really enjoyed the mentaiko udon. The kids meal also exceeded our expectations. Now I want to talk about the legendary or should I say "signature" wasabi burger. It looked great when it arrived on the plate, held together by a steak knife. I loved how the top bun was toasted and how its bitterness went really well with the other ingredients. But there was too much sauce which made the bottom bun a bit soggy and the dish a bit too salty for my liking. Nevertheless, it was still a good attempt at a great concept burger.

This place has always been on my list! Food is good and well priced. Good burgers - the prawn katsu was crunchy and generous on the prawns. The beef burger was juicy. The pork haloumi roll was innovative, though sauce/pork was a bit too much and I couldnt really taste the haloumi. Definitely try their wide range of burgers though!

Stumbled across this gem with a group of mates not too long ago and have been coming back as a group almost religiously ever since. The food is absolutely cracker with a unique take on Japanese cuisine. The owner/chef is just a little bonus on top. He's a super chill bloke that is more than accommodating with his customer service. Would give 6 stars if possible, can't recommend this place enough!!

Best burger I have ever eaten. Every meal I had there is absolutely fantastic and the staff are so friendly. The meals are very customisable and there are lots of different options and cuisines. Everything is cooked to perfection and the food is cooked nice and quick so you don't have to wait. They have options for vegetarian, gluten free, and vegan (and more), boasting Indian, Japaneese, Chinese, and Australian food, all cooked fantastically. A recommended entree are the spicy chicken wings (hint...their spicy!). If you are ever in doubt, this place will blow you away.

Authentic and delicious! Very unique selection of food with an exciting modern twist on the Japanese cuisine. We ordered the iced coffee and Katsu burger and they both brought back memories of Japan. The owner is also really lovely & friendly, and even brought out a water bowl for our dog as we ordered take away. Can’t wait to go back!

The food is JUST amazing there! Super authentic! Tasty! Finger-licking [such a stupid thing to say BUT IT'S TRUE] good. I also love their MATCHA. Anything green really, my favourite burger is the Wasabi one with the green bun.

So happy that there’s a Japanese rice burger place in neutral bay! I had the pork rice burger with black rice and it was super tasty - also loved that the rice had a good crunch to it. Friendly staff, great value - I’m definitely going to be a regular!

This place is actually really good. I wasn’t sure about Japanese inspired burgers at first, but it totally works. I’m vegetarian, and their tofu burger was great- even the gf bun is really good! Also, really lovely staff who take the time to have a chat. Will definitely be back 😋

If you’re looking for a delicious Japanese burger place which open until night in Northern Sydney area then this is the right place for you

Triple cheeseburger with cheese sauce, okonomiyaki burger, rice burger, fish burger, prawn cutlet burger, you name it. All of those menu are really good, I recommend you to try their cheeseburger along with the cheese sauce (it doesn’t even matter on double or triple patties, it’s still greaaat 😉)

For the quick bites you can order lotus chips, spicy chicken wings (fingerlickin gewwwddd) .

A modest and unassuming eatery delivering fantastic Japanese fusion food. We thoroughly enjoyed our burgers; one which was a traditional double beef patty burger, and the other, an open Katsu chicken curry rice burger with the greens and potato salad. A big plus is that Buddhalicious is open for early Sunday dinner, so is a perfect stopover for a return journey from Taronga Zoo.

I love the cheeky Japanese twist the burgers here have!

The okonomiyaki burger is a must try, it was super tasty and not something you can find anywhere in Sydney.

Another showstopper is the cheese beef burger, we went pretty overboard with ours (3 patties high!) and the owner drenched it in a waterfall of cheese and housemade BBQ sauce! An absolute tower of heaven!

Aside from the burgers they have delicious sides and the spicy chicken wings were bomb! Don't worry, they're not as spicy as it sounds!

A place worth the bus ride out for and definitely a place to get a feed at if you're in the area!

The twins and I dined here on a Thursday night in mid-Jan, '19.

This is a fairly basic burger joint, run by what appears to be a husband and wife team, with the husband doing the cooking, and the wife acting as front-of-house, maitre d’ and waitress all rolled into one.

It operates out of a small space, on Military Rd in Neutral Bay, with inside and outside seating. We sat outside in the courtyard, on rather hard wooden stools, with nowhere to hang coats or jackets or put bags, except on the ground. It was pleasant enough though, dining “al fresco” on a balmy summer night. It was fairly quiet too, being set well back from the road, and with little noise from other patrons, most of whom were sitting in the adjoining section belonging to the next-door sushi restaurant.

We ordered a Young Henry Pale Ale, two burgers, a large serve of chips and a wagyu beef patty with Japanese curry. No complaints about any of that. The burgers were well executed, with tender, juicy meat patties, and topped with fresh lettuce, tomato and onions in a soft roll. Nothing exceptional or extraordinary about the design, or the ingredients, but this is a classic case of doing something simply, but doing it well, so congrats to the chef. This guy knows how to turn a good burger. The chips were nice and crunchy and served with two sauces: we choose tomato and barbecue, the perfect accompaniment. The wagyu beef patty was an interesting and tasty concoction, with a rice patty and potato salad. Serving sizes were just right and we all enjoyed our meals.

Service was outstanding. The friendly maitre d cum waitress and front-of-house was delightful. She was polite and attentive, with a sweet smile, and to prove that she wasn’t just a pretty face, she was super efficient too. Orders were smartly taken and the food came out quickly.

When it came time to pay though, things came a little unstuck. Instead of being presented with a normal, hard copy bill, the maitre d just toted it all up at the till, and announced a result of $62, supposedly after my Ent Book discount of one free meal. Not wanting to argue, as she had been so efficient and pleasant, I paid, but on reflection, I think that I was probably overcharged about $12-$15. So unfortunately, despite everything having gone smoothly, I was left with a slightly bitter taste in my mouth. Next time, I’ll insist on a hard copy bill.

There’s a single unisex toilet out the back door and down a short flight of stairs, but you’ll need to grab a key for it. The stairwell is poorly lit. The toilet itself is functional, but a bit grubby. There are no hand towels or even a hand dryer, the soap dispenser was broken, and you’ll have to fiddle around to find the light switch.

The menu is large, colourful and well laid out, making it easy to read.

Being busy Neutral Bay, parking is always a challenge, but I was lucky to find a spot not too far away on Grosvenor Street, across the road from Woolies, where restrictions end at 6pm.

Given the small turnout, albeit on a Thurs night, with just the three of us, and one or two other patrons, I’m not sure about the long-term viability of this place. It isn’t very visible from Military Road, and with such a cluttered streetscape it’s hard to find, unless you know where it is, but having been there once before, during its previous incarnation as a sushi bar, I knew where it was. But I can’t see this place attracting too much walk-in trade.

But good luck to them anyway. They’re a lovely friendly couple who run a decent burger joint, they just need to up the ante when it comes to the billing side of things, and pay a bit more attention to the look and cleanliness of the toilet. Upgrading the seating outside to something a bit more comfy with place to hang coats, jackets etc would also help to improve the overall dining experience.

I love it when somewhere tries out something different in the burger scene here in Sydney - Japanese inspired burgers.

A group of us came down to check out this interesting combo. Rice bun burgers, chicken teriyaki, and okonomiyaki burgers. All different, and all incredible delicious! Then for anyone else, they also have a selection of more common burgers. If you’re a big cheese lover, go for the cheesy. A jug of cheese is used to cover your burger in deliciousness!

3.5 from me.

Flavour was good, service was good, but there are something l'd like to add comments.

Ebi katsu burger - rice cake bun
Im not sure If the rice cakes are deep fried or grilled, the rice is too hard. Yes it needs to hold the shape- but the over cook killed the texture of the rice. Soft rice could find in the middle part, but the hard shell was too thick. It was unpleasant unfortunately. Also, nori flakes were mixed into the cake pack, there was no flavour in the rice cake bun...
I'm not fuss but is the ebi katsu house made???

Original burger (double patties)
Cooked medium, great smoky sauce, loved. Good looking stack. But the bun was too small.
Lots sauce and juice, burger was fallen apart before eating half way. It was quite struggle to shape as a burger till the end.
Just a suggestion- please use slightly bigger bun? ;) or it meant to be eaten by deconstructed way.

A few clearness doubt were there and here(menu on the table was sticky, microwave seems oil outside), but we enjoyed here after all.
Not to hurry to go back, but one of "keep in mind" eateries in Nutral bay.

Yum! If you’re after a delicious feed at an affordable, low cost, you have to come to buddhalicious burger. The food here is a fusion of japanese and your traditional burger joint and brings it to the next level. We decided to try a few items:
- onion rings: yum! Super crisp and onion still nice and fresh on the inside. Really enjoyed these.
- beer battered chips: These were also very yummy. We got chilli mayo with this and this tasted really nice. Highly recommend it.
- karage chicken: tasted like what karage chicken should taste like. Very light batter on the outside and still juicy and tender on the inside - yum!
- spicy wings: mmm this was good as well. I wish it was actually spicy but regardless, was very tasty. Nice and crispy on the outside and chicken was still tender like the karage. The sauce was also pleasant.
- beef burger: beef was nicely cooked (still pink inside) and worked well with the rest of the ingredients. For $12 that’s great value!
- okonomiyaki burger: yum! I am a big fan of okonomiyaki and this place did it justice... in a burger! The okonomiyaki batter was still light and fluffy and had just the right balance of cabbage in it. I really enjoyed this one - highly recommend if you also enjoy okonomiyaki.

Overall, I would highly recommend trying this place out. They had great service and food was exceptional when you compared it to the cost. Value for money and good quality. It was a shame to see they didn’t have any customers during lunch time - would highly encourage people to come to this place to help support the business - it would be a shame to see them go!
Those Who Love To Eat
Just off Military road lurks a killer burger joint!
The fusion of Japanese influences brings burger eating to a whole new level!
The flavour combinations are subtle but well paired. It’s like eating a Japanese meal in a bun form. Oh and might I mention how affordable to place is? You can order a standard cheeseburger for a meagre tenner!
For two people: we ordered The first round... the double cheeseburger that looked like it was going to jump out at you! And the Okonomiyaki burger with bacon in the middle. Delish! the flavour tantalised the tastebuds.
We also ordered their mouth watering tempura sweet potato fries for a fiver.
The next time we went, we tried their tempura prawn rice burger. It was remarkably filling for such a small looking burg.
When we get the pank for this kind of food... sure know where to go!

Pricing: Affordable
Service: Quick service with friendly servers that remember regulars names.
Taste: Delicious! The rice burger’s ‘bun’ or black rice was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside! As was the prawn katsu. The sauce they used complemented the burger’s taste and suited it well. The burgers were also quite filling. They also offered free chips as this was the first few weeks of opening.

Would definitely recommend trying this place! Absolutely amazing burgers.

Great burgers! Pulled pork is quickly becoming a favourite of mine! It was really nice being able to get a great local burger with Asahi on tap, will be back again for sure

I was surprised to see a place serving rice burgers in Neutral Bay, and even more surprised with how great the food was for such a good price. My partner and I got the BBQ beef and BBQ pork rice burgers with chips and onion rings as sides. We picked the black rice option for our buns, and I highly recommend it: the rice is that fragrant purple black rice used in Thai desserts and it provides a unique and interesting flavour. We both devoured our burgers. My BBQ beef had a great teriyaki flavour, and the kimchi was a great touch to balance out the creamy kewpie mayo. My partner demolished hers, noting how nice and crunchy the outside of the rice was, although the kimchi could have been a bit drier. The chips had this great powder on them that tastes like American hot and spicy pringles, and it totally works. The onion rings were spot on (savoury batter, perfect consistency and cooked so that the onion isn’t tough of mushy) and my only complaint is that I wanted more! I’m really looking forward to going back and trying the veggie options, both of which sound exciting. Overall I highly recommend this place, it’s an excellent value for great flavours.
