Review Surjit's - Neutral Bay

Food is always fresh, quick and tasty. They’ve got a prime location but the size of the restaurant means there’s always seating. Even if there’s a big group of you. They can make almost any dish veggie, or with other changes, without fuss. This means it’s always cooked fresh. Staff can be a little flustered and I don’t think they mean to be impolite at times but it does feel that way. Toilet facilities aren’t the best either. Improvements in one of those two minor areas would give it the max 5 stars for me.

Service is always poor and unfriendly. Food is inconsistent, last night we had one dish that was great and a duck salad with almost no duck. We eventually got the attention of a waitress who summoned the manager, she wasn't really interested but replaced it with something slightly better. They obviously rely on the cinema traffic to get away with a poor product, just like a few others nearby.

Nice atmosphere, however my partner got terrible food poisoning for hours later that evening. We think it was the mussels which were not cleaned or cooked properly. It was also unusual to find out that Papaya was BYO only, which was disappointing to find out only when we got there. Slow service - our drinks arrived half way through our mains.

Can be busy and crowded, but service is fast and polite. Food selection excellent. Local favorite.

One of the best Thai restaurants in the area. Food is always at a high standard though like any restaurant we have had our order missed once thus waiting for an hour. Overall we enjoy the food so all good.

I would provide zero, but one star seems the minimum. There is a common thread here just reading. Poor customer service, food late by 30 minutes and zero effort in the food itself. Happy to take your credit card details but useless at answering simple questions given in plain slow English. I binned the food. If you are local to the area then go to Lime light. They were unfortunately closed tonight, but never have these issues.

The atmosphere and service are generally not too bad... however; When we arrived they took us to a table that was very cramped near the other diners (back to back dining!) near the main window facing the street corner - while the other half of the restaurant was quiet and relaxed and almost empty. I requested to move seats, which luckily was not a problem. I dislike restaurants that cram their diners against the windows to make their restaurant look busier than it really is (or so that they can reduce their wait staff for the evening). The prawn and chicken Pad Thai was served wrapped in a fine omelette mesh that looked interesting, almost elegant. It was passable, though flavour was quite generic. Three prawns, slivered chicken bits, but overall too much soy sauce and lacking depth and ingredient / texture variety that a good pad Thai should have. The portion size is not very big compared to what you pay at some other Thai restaurants. The second main ordered was a fish coconut curry. What arrived was a large chicken curry, brimming with big drumsticks and the like. As I had particularly felt like fish curry I made them aware and they replaced it. Though what arrived was not half the portion size of the chicken dish, and the fish pieces were thin, tough, tasteless and sparse.. Makes me think that the kitchen was actually out of fish and served chicken instead hoping that I would accept it. I would have much preferred to have been told straight up that they were out of fish!! Another note, as someone stated earlier - the dishes are served very quickly.. Almost too quickly if you know what I mean. Overall quite disappointed. The decor promises so much more!

I ordered the Yum Talay - seafood thai salad. Big serving, so yummy. Friendly staff. I was given a lemon lime bitters drink - not sure if they made a mistake or because they were being generous considering it was hot 37° day (I was not billed for the drink). Dog friendly.
