Fantastic for a romantic dinner, family breakfast, a glass of good wine with a view and a quick coffee after a run. My family and I have been many times for all Baringo has to offer, including the gorgeous little theatre. Japanese food has been delicious both times we've had it and service fantastic. Highly recommend a visit!
We had a great meal in the Bistro last Monday night. The food was excellent. There were 4 of us so we had a range of dishes from the menu. The entrees were superb. I had oysters with a smoky salt and Japanese seaweed salad, and my friends had scallops served in the shell and the Spanish jamon, which they also said were great. Our mains included the rare kangaroo (which was exceptionally good), saltbush lamb cutlets with salsa verde and porterhouse steak which was cooked to medium rare perfection and served with a beautiful house made horseradish sauce. We had a yummy bottle of Oregon (US) pinot noir from the extensive wine collection in the bottle shop next to the restaurant which is part of the Baringo Food & Wine complex. The staff were excellent and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. Looking forward to going back tonight!
My husband and I had a delicious meal in the bistro last night, great service and wine also. We can’t wait to go back and try the 5 course meal. Thanks
Fantastic meal and wonderful service. Bit dubious given previous reviews but couldn’t of been happier. Interstate visitor and can’t wait to come back!
Had a really lovely lunch in the restaurant/wine bar. Staff were very polite and attentive. Food was great and plenty if it. Definitely be back.
We were visiting the region and recommended this restaurant. Arrived ar front bar too some great life music, and friendly service. We had the most delicious steaks for dinner, and relaxed in front of the fire. We would highly recommended
Had my 60th birthday party at Baringo, they allowed us to run our own movie and they provided my guests with a delicious menu of entrees and paella. I was delighted with the way the staff looked after us and I want thank Heidi and her team for making my day memorable.
Our large group loved the new menu tonight! The staff were so friendly and efficient, too. We’ll be back!
An absolutely stunning day at Baringo for our Aunts & Nieces lunch! Everything was just perfect. Thanks to Heidi and the staff for your wonderful hospitality!
I know where I am going to get my Japanese fix from now on, Baringo is the ants pants!! Love the atmosphere, the food is Devine & the service was impeccable. This place is a local treasure.....
Exciting menu. Delicious food, great atmosphere and service!
Excellent service and very tasty meals. Sat outside last week, what a view.

Just had the most delicious Japanese meal with the friendliest and most welcoming waitress Rebecca. Doubly loved it!!
The new Japanese menus is amazing. We ordered a bit of everything and it was all delicious.
Delicious food & wine in a lovely relaxed atmosphere Great service
Lovely place to spend a Sunday afternoon on a nice day. Great food, wine and live music
The food was amazing - standout was the scallops on a bed of celeriac for entree. We sat near the window and soft light framed the mountains as the sun set. Wine suggestions tick , dessert tick , the service genuine and engaged. Thanks for a memorable dinner. :)
The food and service was fantastic bit pricey but well worth it
Great food! Lovely staff. We will be back.
Staff are friendly and the food delicious
Highly recommend
A pleasant place to stop at when visiting Gisborne. I haven't been here for a meal, but have had fantastic coffee and cake. It's a beautiful venue, in a lovely building. The front is set up as a cafe, while the classy restaurant is at the rear. There is also plenty of outdoor seating out the front, and a gorgeous courtyard out the back.
It can get quite busy, but we found the service to be really good, and our coffee was excellent. There was a lovely array of baked goods to tempt us, and we were happy with our choices. Baringo was a really nice spot to stop and unwind a little while we were in town, and we would definitely return.
Our coffee and food came quickly. The food was good; tasty & wholesome, but no frills. There was a good selection of cakes on offer. The place was busy and lots of tables were reserved. Being a two, we got a table fine but larger parties struggled. It was quite quirky having a small shop inside the café too.
Exception food, piping hot & full bodied coffee, outstandingly warm service & gorgeous welcoming cafe! We had the Benedict, avocado eggs and few scrambled eggs with bacon and the food was amazing! The bread was really really good! My new local favourite!
We were lucky to meet Tim, the Head Chef of Baringo Food and Wine, a couple of weeks ago in Avenel having lunch on his day off (Sunday). He impressed me with his passion and enthusiasm and we discussed food, of course. So, yesterday, on my birthday, we went to lunch at Baringo in New Gisborne. Unfortunately Tim had the day off (Sunday) we found out. There are 3 parts to this simple but tastefully renovated establishment. The Bistro, Cafe and Bar. We booked the Cafe. We shared the stracciatella with sweet and sour eggplant as an entree. It was very rich and superb. The straciatella from Azzurri Cheese was the best I have eaten outside of Italy. Fantastic - BUT, I would have preferred their burrata which is Outstanding and would be less rich. For mains the lamb loin (angello) was amazing. The smashed peas, potatoes and the reduction complimented the lamb. This dish was outstanding, well balanced and perfectly cooked. The homemade pasta with prawns (gambrel) and tomato puree with basil was the best pasta I have had for some time. However, I would have appreciated a few extra strands of pasta - they certainly would not have been wasted. Service by John, was excellent. Could not fault this place. It is unexpected to find such quality north of the city. I will definitely return soon. It is worth the drive. They also do various events which sound very interesting. Well done !!
This place is one of the best places I have ever visited for food. I visited during a work trip with 3 others. Everything we had was spot on (mine was just scrambled eggs and bacon on toast, all was spot on and the bread was so fresh I was raving about it). Someone ordered chips for the table and oh my gosh, I do not exaggerate - THEY WERE THE BEST CHIPS ANY OF US HAD EVER EATEN!!! Sorry for all the yelling but I had to. I live in Perth but I swear the next time I visit Victoria I will drive all the way up here again just for the chips..and everything else that was exceptional.
Beautiful venue, great service and delicious food! Ordered the Reuben which was super saucy and filling, they weren’t joking about the fat boy fries... Also had the pulled lamb salad which was incredibly well balanced with perfect ratios of ingredients.
Amazing venue boasting a cafe, back bar, side cocktail bar, dining section, inhouse wine shop AND a cinema! Service and food exceeded expectations. This place goes on the top of my list, Rockpool standard.
We came for a work dinner and the dishes that were served up were impressive. Delicious in flavour and thoughtful in presentation. Would definitely recommend trying out!. Please note, the menu do change on a day to day basis so I’ve opted to omit the dish names and pricing. Antipasto Platter. A good assortment of nibbles. Olives were delicious 7.5/10
Iced coffees were nice and refreshing. Fries were nice and crispy. Came when kitchen was closing but staff were gracious and took our order. Homely vibes and staff are ever so friendly!
Had the mid week Japanese menu. It was fantastic. As good as anything you would get in Japan. Service was pretty good too. Would quite happily go back again.
Came here for a dinner on Saturday night. Had the lamb ragout parpadelle and it was superb. Excellently cooked lamb with delicious flavour. Our dinner was started sharing a chicken terrine and clam chowder entree between four of us. The room had a great ambience and this critic really wants to try out the cinema! Our group finished off with a latte each. Only downside was it was a bit pricey. Great night though!
Had some snacks (tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad and the delicious calamari) one sunny afternoon and really loved it. Great quality food, attentive service and around $80 including 2 wines and 2 beers...pretty good value.
Went in hungry and without a booking and was met with fabulous service. Food was fine. I think prices too high though. $35 for a simple vegetarian pasta is too much. But we'll be back as ambience lovely and service fabulous.
It was our first time to visit Macedon and we were suggested to visit Baringo for a bite to eat. We tried the sausage roll, smoked salmon pie and also beef pie (couldn't remember the exact name), but they were yummy! We were too hungry to take picture, but managed to save the chocolate cake. It was chocolatey and not too sweet which suits our liking. We'll go back to try other menus :)
Very very very good!!!
I miss long time this restaurant ㅠㅠ
Most of all, good service is impressive.
Of coruse delicious..haha
I want to go with my family soon.
Lunch with the wife, eldest daughter and son in law. First have to say was a little disappointed that even though we ordered our food on separate orders but at the same time there a considerable time difference between orders arriving at the table, 15-20 min at least. That was the bad. The good, food was terrific.
The wife had Tuna and Corn Quiche and was impressed with its fresh flavours. Son in law had a cherry duck filo that was delightful in taste texture and tenderness. I had a curry chicken roti off the lunch menu and it was tasty and mildly spicy and went down a treat on a cold Gisborne day. No wine was consumed but coffee was pretty good. All in all a pleasant lunch.
Over priced, but probably the best coffee in Gisborne (but that's not saying much).
Beautiful cafe, beautiful interior, exterior and surrounds. The staff are fabulous, friendly and smiling.
The good is brilliant, I am a regular and I have NEVER been disappointed with the food I have has there. The food is fresh, tasty and innovative. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. A real gem, so wonderful to have a beautiful place to eat in Gisborne.

Easy fine food. This casual yet smart and well thought out cafe fits the winter, late lunch, coffe&cake, and wine and nibbled vibe perfectly. Bringing something special to New Gisborne I was rapt with the all day brekky and wide ranging GF options. Salads lovely, pies tasty. Will return for their all day brekky options!!
Delightful. Tried for the first time last night and we loved it!
We were greeted with a warm smile and lovely waitress who explained the menu and specials for the night.
The food was fantastic! We both enjoyed all our courses and we will be heading back soon.
Really ticks all the boxes!

At long last. Somewhere with class and good food to eat within a reasonable driving distance of home. Great food great service great prices great atmosphere. Yey.
Buffalo wings were really nice, salt and pepper calamari was nice and tender but the coating was a bit off, pie of the day was steak and mushroom it was nice, but the gravy was a bit plain.. good serving sizes, reasonably priced, great staff.
Edit: the Parma and fish & chips are excellent!
Also, Jodee is the hardest working person in hospitality, and deserves a blinking big Xmas bonus!! 👍
This is a wonderful pub, with great food, beer* and service.
Although we only had chips, the Fat boy chips are plentiful, extremely tasty, and dang hot 😁👍 (5/5). Beer - although a Carlton pub, thankfully there are other options than the Carlton Dry & Great Northern swill. There is London Pride and Guinness should you have a more sophisticated palette.
And the service; friendly and engaging.
A wonderful place, either inside or out, and certainly worth a visit 👍🍻
Bar and dining area open for lunch on a Tuesday. Clean floors and well spaced tables. Good menu, including snacks, mains and desserts. Prompt service. Well presented food.
Baringo/The Whistle Stop Bar is the perfect spot for a relaxing drink in the sun. The food here is exceptional and always using fresh ingredients with plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. Staff are friendly and always professional, even when they are busy. The best place to be in Gisborne by far.
What a little gem in New Gisborne. The food was fantastic and the service from the staff was great had lunch in pub but next time I will try the Cafe for breakfast so if you are in the area stop in and enjoy the time there
