Review Autumn Rooms Cafe Darby St - Newcastle

Christine Mendoza
Amazing brunch spot in Darby Street Newcastle. The interior is beautifully decorated, with a cozy courtyard section in the back. The coffee (both hot and cold) were excellent! Popped in for a small bite to eat, and the autumn bowl was generous enough to split between two people. Tip: add the chorizo for a heartier meal. Staff were also really lovely. Would love to come back on our next visit.

If you look for brunch place and you are new in Newcastle, The Autumn Room is place to go. Very nice service, from front of house to baristas, I seriously can't complain. I also noticed how efficient they are and now I have clear understanding why this business is thriving. I had great time and visited place multiple times already. Coffee is just the way I like it and food was very tasty. As a former Chef by occupation I would say I can not give you better review than that.

Came here twice over 4 days. First time for afternoon tea and second time for brunch. Service was impeccable with super friendly staff and a great waiting system with a seamless mobile experience. Unfortunately the Forest berry drink was very diluted and could barely taste anything but the green machine drink was yum. Lemon crumble cake was delicious and I even bought another slice on the second visit to take back to Sydney! French toast was really memorable and my husband loved the croquettes. Would definitely come back here.

We loved the food. The French toast was perfect, it had the right amount of sweetness and texture. The boys raved about their eggs Benny. That hollandaise sauce was on point. We had 2 coffees each person. Coffee was velvety.

All round excellent cafe, strongly recommend you try it out. Everything, decor, staff, coffee and food were excellent. Quick and friendly service despite the place being busy, a really inviting and warm space inside, a good range of breakfast options, good coffee and properly made chai lattes. Prices were fairly normal for a cafe.

Great location, nice atmosphere, the food and coffee speaks for itself and above all excellent service, friendly and professional. The staff really do care about customers and the business. Will be back!!

A true Darby st institution. Delicious large meals. Wide variety of drinks iced and hot. The best chai in Newcastle. Be sure to make a booking on a weekend so you don’t miss out.

Great spot for brunch if you're ever in the Newcastle area. I had the 'thick cut' Bacon Eggs Benedict and it was amazing. Definitely worth a try!

Left pretty disappointed this morning with my first time here since the name change. I ordered the vegan bowl and added poached eggs. The menu clearly says extras, cornucopia eggs (with an s so plural) $3 so I added 'eggs' only to be charged $6 so that is very misleading because as far as I know eggs means more than one. The pumpkin and broccoli were both left off my bowl when the menu said they were included so I followed it up with no apologies from the waitress and received them, the broccoli was very poor quality, borderline rotten and 3 small pieces of pumpkin. The food was also very cold, quinoa had clearly just come out of the fridge but my eggs were cold too, one egg had popped somewhere before my plate so had no yolk in it. I also had a coffee and requested a sweetener but was told they only have 'natural' sugar options like agave. It's still sugar and I don't have sugar but there are natural sugar free sweeteners available. I wouldn't mind except that there is a heap of unhealthy items on the menu so I don't understand not having sweeteners.

Without doubt the best coffee around The staff and service are next to none. If you are after a quick healthy dinner I highly recommend grabbing a veggie lasagne and salad from the grab and go cabinet! Can't wait for my next coffee - see you soon

Came into Newcastle looking for a cafe who could cater for my hubby's and my diets.. We found Black Sheep Darby! Hats off to the chef. I had the Wagu Cheese Burger... OMG so juicy and hubby's breaky was the best he's had on Darby St!! Rhianna was amazing, very attentive and couldn't do enough for us.. And to whom made the flat white coffee.. That's how you make one! Coffee beans not burnt.. Deliciously Creamy and smooth, the way a coffee should be. Amazing all around, Thanks guys! Can't wait to come back.

Top quality produce is used for the food, teas and coffee. The chefs and baristas treat these with respect. Absolutely will be back. Only minor complaint is the toast on the big breakfast didn't come with butter, but floor staff fixed it right up when asked.

I've been for breakfast Saturday and Sunday this week with a couple girlfriends and We would have to say it's the best customer service with their such welcoming/friendly staff, great looking venue and amazing food. Definitely going to continue being a regular! Regards - The Table 1 Girls :)

The atmosphere is calm, even when busy and the staff always helpful. We have enjoyed meals there and it is always a nice place to stop, study/work and grab a delicious warm beverage.

Disappointed overall. Service slow, food very ordinary & way over priced in terms of quality. Our waitress was friendly but not attentive. I think the cafe was understaffed for a busy Sunday morning. Took 30 minutes just to get a coffee. Not on my future hit list!

In the garden out the back on a cold autumn morning, a blanket on my lap, a Novacastrian breakfast tea by The Tea Collective warming my hands, and delicious fig and walnut toast to fill my belly. Such simple pleasure. The Autumn Rooms was so busy but the staff were so lovely, with a smile at every turn.

Delicious food and awesome service. Best coffee in town. The barista, I think his name was Frannie or Francine... was super cute. Highly recommend you try his coffee
