Review Asa-don - Newcastle

It's a nice intimate and cosy restaurant. Ordered for starters Chilli cucumber and edamame. The chilli cucumbers were refreshing with a good kick to it and the edamame were lightly seasoned with some sea salt. For mains we ordered the omu rice and the pork katsu Don. The curry omu rice was very comforting and perfect for a cold wet autumn night with the perfect portion of rice and curry. Will definitely come back. It's worth the trip.

The whole menu is absolutely delicious and of fantastic quality. Having tried both takeaway and dine-in now, I can definitely say that both are great options, although the atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely so I’d recommend if you can. Best japanese ramen you’ll find in Newcastle, with generous serving sizes and good sides to pair with.

Quaint little restaurant serving a great range of Japanese Don meals and Japanese curry Book in advance if you want a seat ad there's limited seating, otherwise you could do takeaway. Had a fair range of imported Japanese beer on offer as well. Well presented food with good quality to match, its definitely worth coming here to get your Japanese rice bowl fix

The place was very busy when we arrived I booked a table 3 weeks before got there gave my name and pointed to the nearest table which clearly was not being cleaned I had to ask for it to be cleaned we sat in the draught of the door way waiter appeared gave us menu's and water returned a few moments later and took our order . Our entree arrived quickly but we ordered 2 but only received one couldn't get anyone attention to find out where the other was over a,hour before our meal finally arrived we were going to leave as we travel a long way for this as for the food it was hot 🔥 I say that much and was OK. Went to go and pay and was nearly charged for the table beside us as well if I hadn't pointed it out clearly they don't number the docket seem very unorganised restaurant will not go again and was very disappointed as it came highly recommend to but after a hour drive to get there I didn't see it was worth our time. Very disappointing.

Asa-don is a fantastic restaurant with friendly staff and authentic food. Seating is limited indoors, however the courtyard out the back is cosy, and surrounded by some fascinating plants. Service was fast, and the food was tasty at an affordable price. Would highly recommend this hidden gem!

If I had more than 3 thumbs to flick up, I would. haha This place deserves all the love it gets. It's not just about the warm, consistent food. It was about the memory of warmth during the winter when I came over for a few days at Newcastle. It will definitely be a place I'd visit on my way back there. I loved the energetic, patient, and Waaaarm staff who manage to wear that smile when they serve customers. Among the stuff I tried, I particularly loved the curry omu rice. �� I am so grateful I got to share the table with a lovely family I just met there. Imma cry. �� They're too kind to me who's an outsider/newbie around the area. I was feeling particularly lonely because I got shocked how almost everything closes by 5 PM. Asadon definitely was the oasis that saved me from the blues of being away and alone in a very unfamiliar place for the first time. For those people who want to try the taste of Japan home food prepared by quirky staff, go over Asadon. Tip: do call ahead to check if they have available seats or take-away. Maaaany people love this place.

Beautifully flavoured and presented food. Service was prompt and lovely. Amazing Gyoza.

The food was good and service swift. If i can make a small suggestion though: Can the staff please indicate if there are any specials. After i ordered i noticed the specials board had a chili ramen that i would have ordered. But that's a very minor discrepancy on an otherwise excellent first experience at this restaurant

So glad to have finally been to dine here! Two Thursdays in a row, my partner and I have gone there for our date night. Highly recommend anything tempura, yum yum yum! Can't wait to return.

Food was lovely except I could smell gas all evening, it wasn't until I was ready to leave that I realised I was seated in front of a leaking gas main. I'm 19 weeks pregnant so it has made me feel particularly unwell. I would suggest you have someone professional look at that.

The food was great with exceptionally fast service, we were all very impressed. Will definitely go back.

Food here is always tastes lovely, usually is worth the long wait :) their popularity could definitely warrant a second wait staff (often only one, particularly during lunch) - I see how busy the lone wait staff often is and feel blessed my work prioritises having a least two wait staff even when it's not expected to be busy! Only really reviewing as I was a bit confused by an experience I had about a month back. I went in for a Tuesday night dinner after two tables left (tables with 4 chairs) and asked for a table, only to be told that were booked out. Fair enough, so I went to wait out the front to wait to meet my friend and tell her we had to find another place. I waited about 10 mins and in that time another couple asked for a table were told the same thing so they left. Then a group of three people arrived, and said loudly before they went in that they didn't have a booking. I watched them get sat on one of the tables I was denied. I was just a bit confused by this, just wanted to give management a heads up in case this was a case of staff misunderstanding management instructions on who to sit for walk ins.

Best Takeaway option in Newcastle.... the food is delicious and affordable!!

Called up to place a takeway lunch order for 7 of us - after being told that anyone who had ordered prawns had to pay $23 per meal (as I was told the prices on the website were wrong and no-one had updated them!)...I questioned this as 3 of us in the office had ordered Tempura Don And I was told that the prices of prawn had gone up!!. Being a lover of tempura Prawns I reluctantly paid the $23. When I opened my bowl to eat at the office I was very angry to see all I had received was 1 prawn, 2 strips of capsicum and 1 piece of broccolini with rice and the miso soup.... Very upsetting as I normally enjoy coming here but I feel very let down and I am not sure I will be back.

The Food is sensational !! The service is spot on !! Fantastic place for a dinner for 2 or to take the kids for some gorgeous, healthy food !
