It was our first time at Scratchley, all the meals on menu sounded great. We settled for rump steak 250gm surf and turf, the meat was cooked perfectly. My wife had the Lamb and a friend had chicken. All meals were great the staff were friendly helpful and were always there asking if we needed anything. Great meal, great service we will be back

The food was really tasty, I really enjoyed it. I got the Salmon and my friend got the Barramundi. The portions are a little on the small size for the price you pay.

Very average value for money. Very average small sizes. However, sunning location, service was good. So much potential, but an obvious money grab. Prepared to spend good money on great food, not good money on average. Seafood chowder was better than expected. The $14 dan Murphy's pino at nearly that a glass was a great taste but another money grab. Good try, asked locals and they said they suck people in with the water frount setting and sting you with price. Should have known with the fish and chip take away out the front..

Had a lovely view while having dinner. Great menu.

Beautiful meal with my son-in-law. Seafood was so fresh and staff were very attentive. My favourite seafood restaurant in Newcastle

This place was right on the wharf so was a good option for dining with a view.
Ordered the seafood marinara -it was packed with mussels, calamari, clams and fish in a tasty chilli tomato based sauce but was a tad bit salty.
The service though in the evening was extremely slow, we waited ages to Order our food (they took our drinks order first but not food, then asked if we wanted bread but not food and then took a long time for the bill to be delivered.

Attached to Scratchleys is Battlesticks Bar which is a modern Bar with a relaxed feel. this review is for Battlesticks not Scratchleys although I couldn’t search Battlesticks. This bar is great for couples, groups having a bite to eat or a main meal. Offering an assortment of tapas. We ordered marinated mixed olives which were nicely marinated & warm. Also orders scallops & prawn dumplings with spicy chilli & soy sauce, these were steamed perfectly very nice balance of flavours yum. Friday’s from 12-6pm is happy hour with a great selection of cocktails beer and wine. Beers were $6 this was for your normal beers like Tooheys New etc, and a selection of other beers like Kosciuszko pale ale. The staff were happy accomodating & very friendly.

What a lovely way to soak in the beautiful view on the wharf. The seafood was very fresh and it was a lovely balance with the fresh fruit plus the cocktails were delicious. We definitely recommend this place!

We were told that place was expensive so we were pleasantly surprised at the manageable pricing. Chips could have been a bit fresher, but that could have been due to the time of day we went... just past the lunch time rush. We didn’t sit in and instead chose to sit on the grass out front. Lovely view. My only real gripe is that they did not call out our numbers when the food was ready! Otherwise pretty good.

The view is very nice and the restaurant is in very good location. The meal’s alright, oyster was not that fresh. The most disappointing part was the SERIVICE. We ordered a bottle of wine, and one of my friend couldn’t drink it because a fly was in his glass. We asked for a replacement, and the waitress told us we could only get it if we ordered another bottle, the fly was just our bad luck. As a restaurant by the bay, we expected certain health standard, a fly in a glass had me doubted the health and hygiene of the restaurant. And no replacement for that glass of drink made me questioning their service quality.

Haven't been to scratchleys in years, nothing has changed but the prices. Food was nice but I'd expect way more for the prices! Service was absolute rubbish waitress had massive attitude.

No lobster, and there were items on the menu which were unavailable. Otherwise, a great meal in a beautiful setting and would have given 9 stars.

Positive:
- good views
- friendly staff
Negative:
- takes forever for the food to arrive on my table
- risotto (entree) was undercook
- food taste just ok, presentation was awful, especially with their overly priced food!

Great friendly service, excellent location and average food. This isn't a criticism - the food was perfectly acceptable. The chargrilled seafood platter makes a theatrical entrance as a huge plate piled high... But the vast majority was fruit (!!) and lettuce, the seafood unseasoned and the chargrilled food was a small portion drenched in pesto. Not exactly worth the $72 price tag but fresh and edible. The winner was the kids meal - excellent value at $10 and chicken schnitzel heaven.

S C R A T C H L E Y S

When you can't decide what to get from the menu, get the epic platter!
This place is so romantic at night (highly recommend to be seated by the water). Service is great, and the food is just delicious.
You can tell the seafood is fresh! ✌@foodiesguidetosydney

Have been here a few times a few years ago but the place is still great and the food sensational. Had the tuna steak and the barramundi and it was very tasty. Definitely a place to come for a meal if ever in Newcastle as the view is also great on the water.

The location is fantastic with really interesting views. Unfortunately it stops there. Anything to do with seafood is over cooked, anything to do with sauces are heavy, mono flavoured and most likely packet driven. The staff are friendly and efficient but not enough to save a truly ordinary dining experience.

Another fabulous meal at Scratchley's. The hot & cold seafood platter for two there is always amazing - one of the best. Add to this a magnificent day with a fresh sea breeze splashing waves blue sky and the ambiance adds another dimension to a spectaclur day and meal.
Newie Local
Waste of money. We went for a family birthday one Sunday lunch.
The food was ordinary to say the least. It was overpriced to go along with overcooked. The view and location is great but being a Newie local we will never go here again. If you're not a foodie you'll probably enjoy it but if you enjoy good quality food don't waste your money.

Expensive and Dead Ordinary. Miserly proportions....inaccurate descriptions......totally over-rated

Underwhelming. Great location, great service but very underwhelming food. Their Asian infused king prawns in wonton wrappers were Prawn Twisters straight from the freezer and found on the menu at any RSL or take away not acceptable for a Seafood restaurant, the oysters were average and nothing was prepared or presented in a manner above ordinary What a shame.

Outrageous prices for really bland, poorly cooked food.
Clearly they don't know how to cook fish which is apparently their specialty. Minus 1.
Oh the view was nice +2 gets you to 1.

Very impressed! Beautiful wine selection and one of the best fish dishes - red emperor with green curry and basmati pilaf - I've ever had. Highly reccomend! Also has a huge wine selection.
