Review Scotties - Newcastle

Not worth the hype. Went for lunch with the kids. Hardly anyone there so you'd think they could do a simple calamari and chips properly. It was hardly warm and the chips looked like they were the dregs from the fryer. For $22 you would expect better. Won't be back. (Came with 4 bits of calamari but kids grabbed them before the picture.)

Scotties is a Must-visit for Newcastle locals and tourists alike. The menu features an eclectic mix of inspired seafood dishes from their kingfish sashimi to their Morton bay pluto pups! All incredibly different and all delicious. Nestled in a beautifully converted terrace, the restaurant is about a 3 minute walk from the beach with a cosy outdoor seating area well away from the chaos of the main CBD. The staff are friendly, attentive and happy to have a little chat if the opportunity presents. We had a wonderful lunch here sampling their Lobster Club sandwich, Tuna Ceviche and a fish kebab. The ceviche was an absolute hit with its bold yet balanced textures and flavours. Our lunch came in at about $120 including drinks so I wouldn’t call this an everyday experience for the average lunch. In our opinion it was well worth the price. We’ll be back soon to try the rest of the menu!

We stumbled on this by accident and let’s say we did not regret it. We have eaten there twice in two days (not local) and this unassuming little gem is punching way above its weight. Prawn pancake, fish wrap, salt and vinegar mussels, crispy skin trout (skin was amazing) all deserved more than 5 stars but the lobster special was to die for. Staff are brilliant and don’t even get me started on the head chef that deserves a raise. He came to the table to check on us, entertained, ran meals and served food that was fresh, beyond tasty full of flavour and left you wanting more even if you couldn’t fit it in. Also try the margarita…

Nice fish however the batter was very thick. It made it less enjoyable to eat the fish. Definitely Sydney prices but not quite up to the price. The outdoor area is lovely with lots of seats to eat takeaway.

Fresh delicious food. Great flavours. The best crumbed calamari, so fresh melts in your mouth. Clams were amazing. Venue was quaint and old school with period features 👌 Staff were great

Scallop and Blood Orange starter was amazing! Kingfish delicious! If you like a pie the fish pie was a winner- perfectly cooked pastry, fabulous fish base gravy and creamy filling filled with fish. Background music was perfect. The team on the floor were polite and welcoming. but could have been a little more efficient with drink service and clearing dishes from the table. Really loved it though. Thankyou

No coffee no ambient light or ambience decor not like the Scottie’s of old and pretentious menu that is highly over rated and priced. We left after eating the meagre offering and being clipped $200 for wine and fish soup and shared oysters. Feel ripped off whatever happened to the old Scottie’s loved that place. Won’t be visiting again

It is pricey but nice fish, salads that are different I.e. not your standard greens with a bit of oil and vinegar. The chips were cooked to the point. But.... the size of chips that we got for 2 people was a single serve. Same size as the guy next to us had. The salad portion could have been a bit more too in particular because we paid extra for the salad. $14 for 3 mouthful of salad, come on, cabbage is cheap. I give 3 stars, nice food and nice staff. But overall, just a little above average. For $90, I expect a little more for 2 people. Ok going there for a good meal, but not value for money. If you guys charge Sydney price, you gotta cook like Sydney restaurants.
