Review Surtaj Indian Restaurant - Newcastle

After 30 years our favourite restaurant had a change of owners. What a fantastic job- great food (same dishes, with a twist), great service. Thoroughly recommend.

Had lunch there today with friends. Still the best Indian food in Newcastle. We had Chicken Kashmiri, Mango Chicken, and Fish curry. Plus naan and Mango lassi. So delicious. 🍛 😃

Busy. Friendly Staff. Good food. Not the best Indian I have had but would be happy to go back when we are next in town.

Best Indian food in Newy! A hidden gem. Very authentic down to the amazing pink decor. Great, friendly staff, family owned. Never ordered anything we didn't LOVE. Been going for years. Recommend Surtaj (butter) Chicken, Rogan Josh (lamb), Saag Paneer (vegetarian), and Tandoori chicken. Of course their naan is freshly made too. Good portion sizes.

Worst food ever. The food was so bad that Kamal didn’t even eat it. Felt so bad for him.

Surtaj Indian Restaurant is a lovely family run business. My partner and I, always make an effort to stop by when we're traveling through Newcastle. The owners are very friendly and offer terrific service and the food is excellent. I highly recommend giving Surtaj a go.

Not even joking BEST INDIAN FOOD IN NEWCASTLE!!! Authentic, tasty and reasonably priced. Lovely family run the place and me and my family have gotten takeaway there for years. Only thing- vibe inside the restaurant can be a bit flat sometimes so I stick to takeout. Absolutely awesome!

IT IS A BIG JOKE IN THE NAME OF INDIAN RESTAURANT. We had the WORST QUALITY OF INDIAN FOOD IN AUSTRALIA on my wife's Birthday... ): On our way back to Sydney from Gold Coast, we search online and ended us going to this Indian Restaurant - A BIG JOKE IN THE NAME OF INDIAN RESTAURANT. They allowed us to have dinner at 9.00 pm and then started insisting us to place order at once by saying kitchen is closing soon. We would have gone to other place if she has said that in the beginning, May be they are after money only. As mentioned earlier food was HORRIBLE, we asked for two curries, one spicy ( HOT) and another one mild for kids, however both the curries taste exactly same, kids could not eat them at all, so to improve bit of a taste, we asked for lime and salt. The girl who served us came back and said she cant serve us lime as kitchen is closed...!!!, 5 minutes later she came and said they are out of lime. so I spoke to the manager / owner She could not do anything about the taste of the curries or lime. The worst part was, she COULD NOT ORGANIZE EVEN COLD DRINKING WATER ...!!!!!

Excellent!. I think people its too harsh with critics. Its an amazing restaurant! Very casual but the food is absolutely delicious! A keeper ;);)
