Went to the star tonight for my husbands Birthday, when we arrived we were served straight away, the staff were very friendly.. after we sat down a staff member came and told us the specials for the night. When I went up to the bar to order a drink the staff member asked what the occasion was for (as we had a table for 10ppl) and I told him it was my husbands birthday. After I sat down he came over with a complimentary drink for him. We ordered our food and it was hot, fresh and delicious! The staff then Came out with another complimentary drink for my husband - this time a cocktail that they were creating for the specials for the next week.
Every time we come here it never seems to disappoint, the service and food is consistent and the staff go above and beyond.
After dinner the staff came out again!!! and gave my husband a complimentary desert, again this was very unexpected and a very kind and appreciated gesture...
Thankyou for the great service, delicious food and fantastic experience and going Above and beyond to make his birthday special. Service like this is hard to come by and I'm not a person that usually writes reviews but our experience tonight was worth writing about! Thanks again!

Went there for dinner tonight and turned out to be schnitzel night. For $15 u get a chicken schnitzel and a pint of beer. Best value around!!! The schnitzel was one of the best I have eaten and great cocktails! Will definitely be back again and would absolutely recommend!
Always have a wonderful time at the Star. The staff are fabulous, the food to die for and of course there are the chilli margaritas. Wash that all down with the delightful Bruce Mathiske in the guitar lounge and you have a wonderful outing. xxx
Dropped into the Start Hotel 7 Apr 18 for a couple of drinks and a meal. Really had a great time, staff were very attentive, layout very nice and comfortable. Had a steak which was cooked amazingly and the music was fabulous. Really great experience
We were in Newcastle for a reunion, 17 of us from all over Aussie & lucky we found this awesome spot for the Sat night. The food was superb & there was a an extensive cocktail list which proved to be a huge hit, to the point we were last to leave. Thanks for an awesome night & if I'm ever back in Newcastle I would definitely make sure I visited again.
Had a meal and a few drinks on Thursday night. Really nice helpfull people food was above good especially the chicken but hey the home made spring rolls were just as good. They didnt have a change float ready so the guy behind the bar said make it up next round. Like just nice. Will be back and certainly recommend.

Had my niece Kim s 50th birthday party last night.Was a great night ,food was delicious ,nice and hot and so fresh,Great atmosphere,the staff were very friendlyWill be going back for sure

Wen too the Star for dinner last night before a show. It was loud, and busy, but the food came out quickly, and the staff were amazing. So was the food!
The service was fantastic. The pork belly was recommended and it didn't disappoint. It was the best I've ever had. Loved the DJ pumping out all the old tunes. I haven't danced in ages.

Well done to the new management! Incredible makeover!!! The food was outstanding. Service brilliant and friendly. Food cane out quickly and was more than delicious!!!
Oh and the atmosphere was better than anywhere we’ve been in Newcastle with the legendary Terrence Koo playing.
We will be back for sure!
We had a fabulous night celebrating my husbands 50th at The Star on Saturday night. Yummy, inexpensive cocktails, delicious food and a terrific band who had us all up dancing. However, all were overshadowed by the absolutely fabulous staff you have at The Star, both the bar and wait staff were so very friendly and helpful, nothing was a problem, they could not do more for us and everyone was really, genuinely friendly. It was a really fun night and we will be back for sure.

Staff were extremely accommodating towards my group and I, we had a lot of train delays (initial arrival at 8.15pm - didn't get there till close to 9.00pm) but they kept the kitchen open for us, gave great drink recommendations as well as offering very affordable cocktails majority of the night ($10!) - staff were extremely friendly throughout. They definitely knew the meaning of customer service. Arancini balls were a hit too.
Came in for an early dinner before a flight, the steak was cooked perfectly, the other meals were also fantastic (burger and pizza) and all very reasonably priced. Great service 👌
I visited this venue to check out one of the regular comedy nights they host. I was absolutely impressed by the friendliness and approachability of the staff, they do a fantastic job and really know how to make a guest feel welcome.
I had a few drinks and a beautiful meal. The prices are all very reasonable and affordable. The food is absolutely sensational. It was all cooked to perfection and the combo of flavours was hearty and fulfilling.
I really loved the style of the place, how they lean into the history of the venue, and how on the ball the staff are. I will definitely be back again and again!
Great food, value for money. Had beef & reef- exceptional and pasta & prawns yummiest I've ever had.
Great food and environment - can recommend to anyone wanting a quite yummy dinner
