Review Aharn Thai Restaurant - Newcastle

Arrived at the restaurant at 5:20pm. No one else was in the restaurant yet, we got given menus and sat straight away. Order was taken quite promptly after 25 minutes the waiter came over to say that one of the dishes wasn't available which was a soup so we reordered and he asked what the entree was again that was ordered. We still hadn't received drinks by this time which was 3 Singha, a verdehlo and a lemon lime bitters and we asked for the drinks to come out. 40 minutes later drinks still hadn't come out so I stood up and asked the other woman for our drinks which she got to get out straight away. There was no Singha and no verdehlo available. The only white white wine available was a Chardonnay so a beer was ordered instead. There was also only Leo beer available. The waiter forgot to put our food through and had to come and ask us again what we ordered. When the order was eventually put through it it was prompt and tasty. He forgot to put our coconut rice through also which only arrived after we asked him as he had forgotten to put it through and when we had finished nearly everything else. One person at the table ordered separately which was the soup which wasn't available and she had ordered a soft shell crab dish which never arrived and she ended up cancelling. By this time the restaurant was quite busy and several customers got up and left without staff even noticing. Several people waiting for take away orders were also waiting and getting frustrated. At the end we asked for the bill and they tried to charge us for the beer that wasn't available which was $2 extra per beer. A $17 surcharge was added 15% which is usually normal but after the poor service we received we thought there would be some compensation for a $130 bill which there wasn't. One mistake is understandable but when you make mistake after mistake when at the time we were the only people in the restaurant before other people arrived on the Easter Monday with only a sorry it isn't really acceptable. This is extremely disappointing and I sadly have to say after visiting this place in the past I won't be back or recommending it to anyone else as the extremely poor service didn't unfortunately make up for the tasty food.

A nice place for some refreshing flavours of Thai food. You can byo your own wine not beer

Polite and quick service, there was a generous portion size for both my pad Thai and my partner's stir fry. The pad Thai was on the sweeter side for me but was still quite tasty. Would like to try other dishes here some time!

A fantastic restaurant! This is the place to go for great value, great quality thai food. The service is polite and prompt, and having eaten here many times I have never had an issue with the food. It puts the more expensive restaurants on Darby St to shame!

Very bad service on Easter Monday. 10+ customers walked out because of the restaurant's inefficiency. We waited more than 1 hour and the people who came after us got their food first! Moreover, after 1 hour of waiting, they told us there was no pork or fish so we had to cancel our fish dish. We were ready to walk out. The waiter mixed up orders and didn't even know what Pad Thai was, he pointed to a vegetable dish (pictured below) and told us that was Pad Thai. Eventually they did give us complimentary beers and an extra dish to make up for their incompetency.

The food was fantastic, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The value for money was very worthwhile and worth it. The restaurant was clean and lovely and the iced tea was very yummy! Thank you so much for having us and welcoming us into your delightful restaurant. We had the best time!

We have always recommended Benjamas as best Thai food in Newy. Tonight my parents were over and wanted to shout us dinner at their favourite, Kinn Thai Kotara. I pushed them to trust me and try Benjamas, well that blew up in my face…. The pad Thai was like a dark red colour and made with different noodles, full of oil and very gluggy. The Pad See Eww sauce didn’t look or taste right (it’s usually a darkish soy). Barely any meat in any of the dishes, the garlic beef container was only half full and didn’t taste one bit like garlic. $90 down the drain and most of the food in the bin. Looks like we are now converted to Kinn Thai as well.
