Review Goldbergs Coffee House - Newcastle

Came here on a rainy day and it was packed! The service was amazing (attentive enough and very friendly). Even though it was raining, you could sit outside because of the umbrellas. Food was good- I had the pancake with the berries. The pancake was made with wholemeal and not plain flour which I thoroughly enjoyed. The hot chocolate could have had more chocolate but that's forgiveable. Atmosphere was great.

If you are on Darby street in Newcastle, take a moment to stop for an amazing coffee at Goldbergs. We ordered mocha and affogato. Loved it. Staff is friendly and service is superfast. Ambience has a classic vintage feel, almost like a traditional English pub atmosphere. Soothing music and candle lit place .. wow !!

Wonderful place to dine and had a great breakfast, Lovely service from the staff and bumped into an ex Canberra Raiders legend. Luke Davico. Thanks for the photo brother. Definitely will be back.

Ordered the Rump steak and it was average at best. Drenched in bacon and sauce to make up for the lack of taste and poor quality meat. If I had ordered this at a pub for $18, I may have happily eaten it. But $36 for this - I wouldn’t ever order this again.

Amazing food and cool atmosphere! Coffee was good.

We ordered coffee, orange juice, the french toast and deluxe bacon and egg roll. Serving sizes were good. Taste was pretty average. What was really disappointing during our visit was the quality of service. We appreciated that our waitress was apologetic for getting our order lost (this was half an hour after we had placed our order), but after figuring that out, we still waited another 20min and continued to see guests who arrived later served before us. It didn't seem like there was much effort to make up for their mistake, so hard to say anything nice about our experience.

Best desserts and great coffee! Chocolate cake with ice-cream and cream - decadent.

I was told this place is a local institution, and we were not disappointed. Friends and I spent an afternoon people watching, drinking great coffee and enjoying fantastic food with great wine. A special mention to our waiter Richard. He was super knowledge about the menu and couldn't have done anymore to make our visit truely enjoyable.

God, where do I start? Best food & wine on Darby st. From breaky to dinner. You can rock up at virtually anytime to eat or just have a coffee. The best ambiance & atmosphere! Staff are awesome, treat you like old mates. I've been going here for 25 years or more I think. Can't recommend it highly enough! 10/10

Was our first time in this awesome place. We were just looking for a couple of cups of coffee but decided to have a couple of snacks too. We found the service excellent... casual, friendly and very attentive. I had the Moroccan Cauliflower soup which was amazing and my wife had some kind of Gluten Free bliss ball thing which she really enjoyed. The coffee was great, the food was food spot on and the atmosphere and service were exceptional. Happy happy :)

Great food. Staff are lovely. Rear courtyard is the best !! My only suggestion is put the bottled wine list on the menu or on a board out the back so we don’t have to go inside to pick a bottle of wine

Minus -0 on customer service, Seems like a hard job for wait staff after requesting the news paper while sitting outside for a $20 breakfast and coffee, only to be told to (go help your self). After finishing breakfast Waitress comes out and says are you finished ? Me replying (yes) Takes the empty plate away no smile no thank you, no complimentary water to go with the coffee. No return to check if I needed anything eles. The up side the food was ok at best.

Tasty and healthy food, great service, classical coffee house atmosphere at it's best. All day allrounder, from big breakfast to classy dinner. If i would live in Newcastle, i'd become a regular.

Took my mum here who I haven't ever been able to take out for dinner in my life. Finally got the opportunity and decided to take her to my favourite place in Newcastle. The service was unbeatable and the way the waiter looked after my mum and treated her was like A pure gentle man. Thank you so much guys made my day. The meal was a solid 10/10 too

Always have the eggs Benedict as it’s so good here! Yesterday was not the best, eggs hard as rocks and not enough hollandaise to make up for it! Asked for a kids size pancakes which was gladly supplied( 2 medium size pancakes) but was still charged the full price of roughly $16 for a normal stack! $8 a pancake!! Disappointed for the very first time at goldbergs! Service was great as usual!

I only get back to Newcastle once or twice a year and a Goldberg's chicken caesar salad is always top of the "must do" list. Friendly service, relaxed vibe, great coffee, and yummy cakes and slices mean that Goldberg's is perfect for any time or occasion.

Apart from the excellence of the food and service...the company was wonderful! So much conviviality in the entire house...a great place to eat and settle awhile.

Great restaurant; nice food and lovely staff. My pick when I go to Darby Street for something to eat or to just stop for coffee when we go for our walk from Merewether ocean baths to Nobbys beach and back through foreshore and Darby Street. Loved the place.
