New hidden jap food find!! Amazing polite service, sashimi is super fresh and portions are generous and delicious while still being affordable.

Fresh, tasty and reasonably priced sushi before our concert at the nearby Olympic Stadium. I would definitely recommend this place and come back again if we were in the area!!
Every time we visit Homaru we are pleasantly surprised. They have consistently great Japanese food. Very authentic, delicious and well presented.
The lunch specials used to be daily but they reduced it by a few days. I only eat the $11 box lunch special for teriyaki beef or katsu chicken and I really enjoy the food. The salad is refreshing and love the sauce that goes with it. The miso soup is not too salty and the customer service is nice too. Last time I had an issue, I thought I ordered the lunch special by saying Bento Box, but they gave me the normal full sized one, so they had to correct it.
Overall, it's yummy and would come again.
My absolute favourite takeout. So fresh and yummy! I love the chicken katsu deluxe bento box and the ramen. Will continue to recommend and order from whilst living in the area.
This place is run by Koreans, but the food tastes good. It was clean and the service was great; staff were friendly. The food was served quickly and tasted good. The curry don I had was traditional. Whilst prices, there were decent and what you expected from any middle rank Japanese restaurant.
This is our favourite spot for a Japanese feast! It's a nice and cosy restaraunt with always friendly staff.
The Bento's are always our go to. The sashimi is always fresh, the tempura always crispy, and it even comes with a serving of fruit.
Our favourite main with the bento is the Teriyaki Salmon - it never disappoints!

I've tried the Takoyaki, Sashimi Donburi & the Chicken Katsu Deluxe Bento Box. If you choose any of the Deluxe Bento Boxes they are massive and can be shared with a friend then you can also order an entree. I love how the miso soup comes first because every time I get a bento box in other places the miso soup comes at the same time so I don't end up eating it. The Chicken Katsu itself is cooked just right and would definitely recommend getting it.
You'll love the Sashimi Donburi if you're a sashimi fan with just a bit of rice and some veggies to mix with.
The service is great and the dishes are reasonably priced. It's always good to have a local place like this and Newington is definitely growing.
An easy dinner fix with one of Homaru’s bento boxes. Didn’t look like much, but surprisingly filling so all in all a pleasant meal.
The sashimi bento doesn’t come with rice (instead baby avocado rolls), which was a bit of a let down as I wasn’t aware it would be a replacement and worried it wouldn’t fill me up as much. However as I mentioned, in the end I was satisfied so no worries here. Sashimi was fresh and delicious but it is quite undeniable the true stars of both bentos was the tempura. I enjoy it from time to time but not a big eater of tempura, however Homaru has made them so deliciously light and crispy.
Pretty much same deal with the terikyaki salmon bento, but I didn’t find it as enjoyable as the sashimi. Probably because the teriyaki salmon wasn’t really a standout, and a taste you can find in most places.
We also couldn’t go past some soft shell crab deliciousness so ordered a serving. It was pretty standard but I love this dish so much so still enjoyed it.
Had lunch here for 2 today, I come here usually atleast once a month, good service and great flavours, food was cooked promptly and presentation was fantastic. Chicken Katsu is a must try here!

Due to the positive reviews, my partner and I with his friends agreed to dine here to test it out ourselves. We ordered gyoza, takoyaki, Dragon (eel) roll, bento box and two Homaru sashimi deluxe collections.
The takoyaki had a lot of processed fillings which imbalanced the dish as it's supposed to consist of octopus. If I was lucky, I'd find one every second takoyaki ball. I'd prefer it to have been cooked a bit more for a stronger texture.
The Dragon eel roll was beautifully presented. I've never had bad eel before so I cannot compare, the eel was beautifully cooked though I found the sushi was difficult to enjoy as it'd crumble when trying to bite it in half which forced me to basically swallow this enormous sushi piece. This dish came with a. Interesting red-dyed radish curls.
The gyoza was consumed by a friend whom seemed to have enjoyed it.
The Bento was also a delight to eat according to the other friend due to the variety of dishes provided in the package. He stated the teriyaki chicken was beautifully marinated.
Last of all, the sashimi dish was enjoyed by all of us. I personally found the sashimi cuts of fish were small compared to sushi train sushi.
I wouldn't have a date here though would return for a friendly catch up with friends. I'd be mindful that tables are very small so it may be a little squishy with a group. What contributes to my rating is the waitress that hosted us was efficient and kind.
I have been going to this restaurant since they opened and I've never been disappointed. This is my favourite Japanese restaurant with great food, friendly chef and wait staff. The food is good value for money and food presentation is fantastic.
One of the best Japanese restaurant near Newington. Most dishes are good. Always eat their bento box. During lunch time expect to wait a bit longer. Portion is a bit too small for the price.
Fast, friendly service and fantastic Japanese food that isn't too pricey either. Highly recommended if you're after a quick bite for lunch, especially recommend the chicken katsu donburi
There was also a bowl of miso soup. This is a big meal, but doesn't leave you feeling heavy. Next time I would probably go for the smaller sized box, but I really enjoyed the sushi and the tempura.
The tempura was good although some pieces had a little too much batter (the excess was easy enough to break off). The teriyaki tofu came in small squares and tasted a little like agedashi tofu. Overall a pretty tasty bento box.
We walked out of that restaurant rubbing our bellies and needing to be rolled back to the car. What a great feed!
Fresh delish and enviting. This place is a local favourite. The staff are welcoming and so friendly. The food is made then and there, which assures freshness on the plate.
The food is sensational. Least to say this is my favourite place.

We are regulars here as we live locally. We've never had any issues with food though service has slipped with the new wait staff. Food is always delicious and fresh and great value.
Great Food, Great Prices, Great Service... Great selection of great quality Japanese dishes. I have been many times and never been disappointed... never (how rare is that these days).
Standouts for me are the Crunch Roll (sushi), Teriyaki Salmon and Beef Udon Noodle Soup.
P.S. Loud children at restaurants annoy the crap out of me!
Great Japanese. Very good value - the rolls are huge and bento boxes are brilliant! We eat there at least once a week.
This place is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Newington. They have a great menu and the meals and drinks are so cheap. They have a variety of Japanese meals including sushi and sashimi, udon, yakiudon, bento boxes and donburi. The chicken katsu donburi is only $13 and so filling. Decent and fast service and its always really clean and tidy.

One of the best Japanese Restaurant. Ordered Teriyaki Chicken and that was awesome. It has perfect sweetness and has char grilled chicken not just fried as other restaurants. Top Notch Customer Service. Keep up the good Job guys. Will be back again. Very Recommended.
Took away sashimi deluxe and sushi deluxe. Good portion of sashimi with a variety of different parts of salmon, kingfish and tuna. Good taste with average freshness though. Went well with Dassai 39, my favourite premium sake.
Fish on nigiri sushi was personally sub-par experience, however, the quality of sushi rice was one of the best cooked in terms of its medium to well-done texture with scent of lightly tossed vinegar and sweetness from well-cooked high quality rice, which solely deserves 4 stars at least.
Excellent food! Was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the sashimi and the taste/portion size of the Udon. Yuzu was recommended by a friend and I'm glad he did. I'm not from the area but I'd definitely go back to eat there. Reasonable prices too.
Solid and reliable sushi takeout in Newington. Have not yet had a chance to dine in but very happy with the take out options. Portions always generous.
