Review Brewtown - Newtown

Anna Lynn
Great cafe in Newtown. Love the vibe and atmosphere. Food is very delicious and nicely presented. French toast is a must-try. There’re varieties of pastries to choose from, and all of them are very nice. Service is quick and staffs are super friendly. It’s a busy cafe especially at weekends. Will definitely come back to try more dishes. Highly recommended.

A beautiful place to come for brunch or catch up for coffee. The pastry cabinet boasts all your sugary desires and the interior is spacious and full of inner West vibes. The first time I came here was for my first ever cronut experience, and it was worth the hype!

Highlights: - coffee was great! Perfectly made - green was very tasty and came super fast -floor staff service on point Downsides - sauerkraut was way to strong on the Ruben sandwich - Breaky roll sausage tasted plain and it really needs a sauce to make it like a proper breakfast. -I didn't like the behaviour of the staff behind the till. They were not very professional since they were chatting while we where in front of them waiting to pay. - Finally, they have surcharge on weekends! I've worked as a barista for four years and never saw a place that have surcharge every weekend!

Ordered a burger and coffee for brunch. Atmosphere was great, coffee was alright, however the burger was pretty disappointing. It tasted oily and heavy, and the cheese was heated in a way that gave it a funny texture. All the ingredients in the burger did not come well together, and I was kind of forcing myself to finish it at one point.

It's a nice place located on a side road. No reservations needed. The staff were friendly. Tried the French toast and Philli Cheese Steak which were quite good. The hot chocolate was average, but the iced latte was nice. Got a chocolate and salted caramel cronut for takeaway, which might have tasted better while it was fresh, but overall, I liked it. The Biscoff donut would have been better if it had more filling.
Jessica Tong
Cronut is really different from when I tried it many years ago, not as fluffy and airy. Maybe because it was the creme brûlée cronut - denser, filled with a bit of cream. Would recommend sharing it because it’s very sweet and intense. Batch brew was great and only $4!
Bruno
Good service and tasty food. The coffee is great as well. I thought the 10% surcharge was excessive, especially since there was no mention of it on the menu...
Louise Kelaher
The biscoff brownie was heavenly and my coffee was great. I'll 1000% be back to try all the variations of donuts and cronuts. Service was prompt and staff were friendly
Sara
friendly staff, ordered a sandwich and a cronut but then realised there was a bakery upstairs and bought the knafeh donut as well because i am a pig and it was delicious.

This Ferrero slice was delicious especially if you like Ferrero Roche chocolate. I also got a hazelnut latte was good 😁🤤❤️

I was in this cafe today Sunday 19th July 2020 at 1:30ish pm and I have to say I was very disappointed by the fact that the cafe manager or owner was visibly very sick. Now, while I am aware he could have had another ailment, we are in the middle of a pandemic and it was disgusting to see him coughing everywhere in the cafe, touching his face, sneezing and blowing his nose behind the counter, all while serving people and moving around the cafe! I was very much put off my food and this really should be something people take more seriously. If you are sick, you are meant to stay home!! If he was sick with covid or anything for that matter, then the cafe are liable. I had already ordered my food by the time I noticed just how sick this employee was, otherwise I would have left immediately. He should not have been at work, even if it was a flue or simply hay fever, more diligence is needed. Very disappointed and very disappointed by the food, there was no flavour to my vege burger and the coffee was merely warm. Normally, I have a lovely experience at this cafe, I have been a number of times in the past.

Popular café with an industrial warehouse aesthetic that you may want to book ahead for.

ORDER: cronuts and hot chocolate (see pictured)
VERDICT: nice but overhyped
Pacc
Rustic and noisy cafe. Recommended the cinnamon cronut $5 and it was phenomenal. Had the right level of sweetness and great texture. Gota try other flavours!

Beautiful place, really good food, it was different I liked the way they combine meat and vegetables in some of the dishes. Great bakery and sweets. Friendly stuff

Staff were all rude and condescending, one of the worse service in Newtown. Cronuts were stale and overly sweet. Don’t bother going as there are many better places in Newtown

Spacious Cafe serving good coffee and food. The quality of the food was upto Sydney standards, I had the poached eggs toast with bacon jam and it was delicious. Though the serving size looked was small, it was enough. I found the sides to accompany the mains pricey when compared to overall prices which were moderate. The staff were lovely and prompt. The only surprise I had (which won't detract a point) was the price of the wholebean coffee, which was roasted last month were $17 for 250g - absolutely ridiculous!

Probably my favourite cafe in Newtown! Ive come here so often and am NEVER disappointed! Their coffees are amazing and the food is really really good! It does get super busy on weekends though! So be prepared to wait

I stood in the counter and eventually they told people who wanted to eat in to sit down. I did and it wasn’t too long before I was served and they put my order into the computer but then 13 minutes later, the barista came up for the second time and said they had no more orders in the computer and asked if I’d paid. So it took 20 minutes from arrival to coffee and not at a busy time. Time to just have everyone order at the counter and get a table number.

Anyway, the coffee was nicely strong and syrupy but a bit grainy and lacked the creaminess and depth of a coffee I’d had elsewhere an hour earlier. When Brewtown charges $4 compared to $3.50, they need to improve.

The cronuts here are awesome - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Don’t bother with getting the cafe food here, it’s not that great (from my experience anyway). We got the baked eggs which was served with unpleasantly burnt toast...
Hayden Mckay
I popped into Brewtown Newton one Saturday morning with my wife and found the cafe to be a great spot for breakfast, the service and food was on point 👌
Christy Natalia
The staff are friendly and attentive. Had the sugar and cinnamon cronut and the crème brûlée tart which are very good. And we even get free baguettes!! Lovely!!
Chris Vera
Nice building and friendly service, but for me details are really important. I ordered breakfast (typical eggs on toast) but the bread was old and over toasted and one piece had a hole of 40% of the size of the bread slice. Also they use “bacon” jam instead real bacon, which is just a normal “pâté”.
Foodie_101
I had the eggs with half an avocado and bacon jam. Was very good 💓 Haven’t had bacon jam before, definitely didn’t disappoint! The only sad thing is there’s no hash browns on the menu. Highly recommend, although could find the same thing for cheaper around Newtown.
MiffyEats
The service is nice, the people are friendly and the music is banging! Croissant are what you come here for. The chocolate filled one is delicious. The Cronuts are sense and they don't skimp on topping. That matcha cream was yummo!

The coffee is smashing! Still love the music!
Hayley
3.5/5

Ordered a cold brew, an espresso and the last 2 cronuts (one cinnamon and one nutella). The coffees were delicious but the cronuts were slightly small for the price and they did not warm it up (not sure if it was supposed to be served cold.) There weren't a lot of nutella in the cronut as well, which was a little disappointing.
Phfat
Always have a nice meal here. Today I ordered the zucchini and corn fritters which came with a poached egg. The fritters had a smooth and tasty filling, was better with a sprinkle of salt. They also give you free sparkling water here. Winning!
Karen Seo
The cronut is amazing. I tried a lot of the flavours but personally loved the red velvet one. It's not too sweet and the cream cheese is amazing. The other flavours are nice too but are very sweet.
Zara
Love this cafe, have been there several times and never been disappointed. Cannot recommend highly enough to people wanting more than just the mundane
Mykim
I went here a few years back and had my first Cronut. Oh my... it was to die for. Freshly made on the premises and hot off the rack! I can’t recall much else about that day but I would go back for that!
RcO
Wonderful coffee
Nutella Cronut and Pecan tart are delicious
location is perfect close to public transport and on street parking

I have been here before and as always food is great, staff friendly and premises is always buzzing has a nice feel to it.
HANGRYHUNGRY
When cronut pastries were the hype! Brewtown newtown served one of the best! The ones with flavours always had really good fillings inside. Although for some, they had perfect ratios, others were just perfect already. The pastry is soft and crunchy, the fillings were rich and creamy. But it didn’t feel like a heavy dessert. The lychee was rather refreshing. The lemon meringue needed more filling. The salted caramel was delicious - Not too sweet either. There is usually a line on weekends and waiting time. They also have specials, so make sure to pop by their social media to suss out anything new!
Foodie In Chief
This is a popular place in Newtown, it’s a pretty spacious place so you probably don’t have to wait for a table too long. I liked both the food and coffee but probably won’t go back as I can’t stand the attitude of the waitress who appeared to be doing us a huge favor by simply putting a danish on a plate and bringing it to us sitting at the counter two meters away, even after we asked her three times (half the time she was just standing there chatting with the barista), we then had to find another waiter to get us a knife, overall it felt like we were stressing out to get her attention for the better part of our brunch, I don’t think I’ll go back.
Jarredtsuha
Service was very average. The fact you consider having something put on the side as a “substitution” and hence not allowed, is ridiculous. You also cram 4 people onto what is clearly a two person table all along the side of the bottom floor. Overall a very poor experience and food quality was not good enough to score higher. Won’t be going back.
CoffeeGoblin
Put simply, great coffee. Smooth with clear notes.
The food is good too. I enjoyed a wonderful baked polenta with mushrooms.
If you are in Newtown I would strongly recommend trying this place.
Foodie
Came to Brewtown at around 1:20pm and most of their pastries are already sold out/almost gone. :( Had the salted caramel cronut. Although I was pretty happy with the taste, cronut was buttery and the caramel just enough, it wasn’t crispy/flaky anymore. The cronut was kinda limp really, lost any crispness in the layers. Maybe it was cause it was baked much earlier in the day? Hm. Will come back again earlier for a better selection and fresher cronuts.
On a side note, the chai latte was lovely. It comes with some honey which is a nice touch than your regular sugar.
Mrs Foodie
I remember the first time coming here and they were quite possibly the first cafe I recall having cronuts in Sydney. Absolutely gob smacked when I tried them and came back specifically for these.
I also tried the baked polenta, which had a unique texture and taste, not too shabby.

Brewtown is a great cafe if you're looking for something open on a Sunday relatively late. I had the shrimp Hoagie ($16.50) which featured three ingredients on a brioche roll (fluffy scrambled eggs, smokey chipotle sauce and shrimp). The roll was filling and extremely rich. It needed some type of vegetable or a pickled element to cut through the fattiness of the sauce. My boyfriend had the Green Bowl ($16) which he gave a 5/5, the plate featured broccolini, peas, avocado, green beans, leafy greens and sour cream dressing. This meal did not feature any meat and looked quite light. We also had 2 cronuts (one salted caramel and the other cinnamon) ($4). Both weren't sickly sweet, had a crispy texture but were also noticeably oily on the palate.

I visited this place during peak hour. There was four of us and they seated us on a very small table. There was no room to eat or fit the plates on the table. However, the food was great. I got the egg Benedict and like any other egg Benedict from other cafes, this was simply amazing too. I just wish we were seated at a bigger table.

We had brunch here on a Saturday, the place was packed and busy. Service was decent despite the morning rush.

The food was brilliant, we ordered the brioche ham Benedict and zucchini & corn fritters. My accomplice reported that it was the best ham he's ever had. Don't be fooled by the vego brekkie, the zucchini & corn fritters with paoched egg was perfect.

We'll definitely be back very soon!

Don't forget your cup of Kombucha tea for the road.

#cafe #brunch #kombucha #coffee #tea #hipster #kombucha #macadamiamilk

Atmosphere was a wonderful utility themed cafe and the food was delightful. The salted caramel cronuts were amazing the corned beef has and corn fritters were more on the okay side due to the small portion you get from it. Sadly the service was pretty slow and had to wait for a pretty long time but overall it was good.
Alex Butenko
Nice atmosphere and good coffee / nice simple brunch food, but super busy on the weekend with shortage of staff. Unfortunately our table was ignored a little and our order didn’t get into the kitchen the first time. Having said that, the food was good though simple and the coffee was really nice. Would come back if service was a little better.
Angehaha
A mixture of pastries on offer and are as expected from the photos. Probably something I shouldn’t have very often.

The cafe has a hipster style feel and is always packed. So don’t expect to get a seat easily. But they do offer take away.
Matt Ludeke
Epic cafe. Really good coffee and excellent breakfast menu. The fry up with black puddling is the best I’ve had in Sydney. Quite often a queue to get in, but always worth the wait.
Joleen Chen
One of the best corn fritters in town, the touch of garlic breaks the monotony of the dish. Corn beef hash was a tad too meaty so more eggs or veg would be good. Coffee was pretty decent. Nice bustling atmosphere
Sydneyguyrojoe
I was told cronuts came from here,I have no idea! A trendy cafe on the side street on the main road in Newtown. I had no idea this place existed and for a Tuesday brunch time,it was busy. I ordered the Hotcakes with mango curd,if you had the Hotcakes by itself it was a bit sour. The mango curd though balanced the flavours but the fruit that came with it(blueberries and strawberries) wasn't that sweet. It was a filling meal though but I probably wouldn't order it again. @leon says the cronuts are good here and @al says the corned beef hash is the way to go! Maybe next time

Great place to brunch with friends. Good selection on choices and hot drinks too. Appropriate servings that I thought I wouldn’t finish but it’s good so I still did.
Lollieats
Good place to stop off for their famous cronuts. Big selection, so go in hungry 😋 funky little spot with a nice breakfast menu and good coffee. Definitely worth the visit.
Violet
A bit over-hyped. Coffee is exceptional but poached eggs had to be sent back- dry and over cooked. Service was a little too laid back and they forgot us and our place in the line when waiting. Didn’t make for a pleasant experience. Coffee almost made it worth it! Almost...
Frankiieshungrytummy
Pretty looking cronuts and other desserts.
Definitely tasty but some can be bit dry.
Bit of a hipster place as there's also a random shop.
Service is okay but if you're dining in you feel a bit awkward so would rather get it to take away.
Definitely instaworthy.
It's a bit hidden away as it's off King St. but isn't too hard to find.
Margot Duncan
Service was nice, food was a let down. Ordered the ‘Green Bowl’ which was pretty bland, salad just made up with watercress and a few undercooked beans. Very small and not filling if you’re after a healthy hearty start to the day.
FluffyHamster
The coffee is good but the food I ordered was horrible. I have never been picky abt brunch but it was really frustrating this time. Beef doesn’t taste like beef...poached eggs are way too sour.

Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon after seeing the good reviews. It has a nice industrial feel with really good music with lots of 80's hits. The staff are really friendly and attentive.

The food was delicious. The lobster and egg roll was super yum. Would be an awesome hang over cure.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
This industrial looking space houses a delightful range of coffees. This is their main draw card. The aromas are hypnotising and with a range of single origin, espresso blends, cold brews, batch brews, and their unique steam punk, you can’t go wrong here.

Service is quite friendly and was advised that the kitchen was closed (as it was getting closer towards closing time) but luckily for us we were mainly here for the coffee and some pastries. Unluckily for us we didn’t get a chance to check out Drury Lane upstairs but since this place was great we can try it out next time!

Coffee was lovely and had some interesting tastes that I haven’t had in many other coffees. The pastries were absolutely scrumptious! The Kouign Amann had a wonderful crisp and sweet glazed exterior and fluffy inside. The Apple Danish had crunchy slices of apple atop creamy custard and flaky pastry. Pecan Sticky Bun wasn’t as sweet as the others and perfect for the pecan lover.

Overall a lovely place to spend some time and sure we’ll be back!
Bianca O
Really great food in an amazing setting. I got the vegan congee and could not fault it. Fresh and filling without being too overbearing. My partner got the scrambled eggs which were deliciously buttery. The portion size is also good!

Went there twice, the café is busy in the morning, but I didn't wait for too long.

[1st visit]
#Eggs benedict brioche roll# $13. This is not on their menu, but lists as specials on a separate piece of paper. The "roll" looks like a burger, but the bread is crispy. I chose salmon. It is really nice having salmon together with eggs. It's a nice dish but the quantity is not as large as I expected.
#Green Smoothie# $7, well, just cucumber juice, very simple.

[2nd visit]
Tried one of their bakery #Lemon meringue cruffin# $6, looks pretty nice. The cruffin is crispy, and the cream on top has light scent of lemon.
#Beef brisket# $20, all good except for the quantity. It's only one piece of toast, with two eggs. It would be better if they just add another piece of toast.

Staff are friendly, but in the second time they just forgot to bring the water.
P.S. They serve sparkling water.

Good food, good coffee and amazing cronuts!!! 😍😍 there’s nothing bad to comment about them. I went in without expectations but it quickly became my favourite cafes of all time
Kerri
Came here to try the highly reviewed brewnut. It did not disappoint. I had the plain one. Lots of sugar and cinnamon on the outside which made it nice and sweet. Soft buttery pastry. Maybe a little greasy for some but I found it perfect. Friend had blood orange. It was meant to have some Earl Grey through it but they didn't taste it, only the blood orange flavour.
Raisa568
Came here by myself - Horrendous service i.e lack thereof. After 30 minutes I managed to get my coffee, paid and went upstairs to sit in the bakery. Coffee was top notch though

Great coffee and Cronuts!!!

Love their breakfast dishes and definitely a very popular one in Newtown!! Sometimes you can't even get a seat 🙈🙊🙉

I loved the ambience of this place. It has good vibes and good music for a Saturday brunch but really crowded. Since it's really crowded the service is spread a bit thin, so had to go the counter to get attention.

I tried the Avo-Bagel dish which I had seen on my Instagram feed and had been dreaming of ever since.

The dish: I liked the bagels: they were crusty and even a bit charred. The corn was super grilled because a few were just completely black. Cherry Tomatoes and feta were a miss for me, they didn't compliment the dish that well. The highlight of course is the avo, the dish had heaps of it which is always a good thing.

Ended the brunch with a salted caramel brewnut, which is good for a sweet craving but not amount the best. I really wanted to try the Milo muffin, but it sold out quickly. I would come back again only for the ambience, coffee and desserts.

Brewtown has become one of my favourite brekkie spots in Newtown. I ordered for the Avocado Bagel and the Farfalle (vegan), I instantly fell in love with the looks and after having a bite I knew I would be a regular at this place. They have a variety of options both for vegetarians and non vegetarians. The mocha was okay and this place might be on the expensive side, I recommend visiting this place for brunch as the portions are huge.

Have had multiple dining experiences here and each one has been great.

Food ordered:
Most recently went for the unique Daikon Cake dish add salmon. Highly recommend this very unique breakfast. I have also had some of the pastries which are excellent. The coffee is good not amazing in my opinion - just from a consistency perspective. First visit was not so good and recent visit was a bit better.

Ambience:
All the staff have been very friendly and happy. A good vibe for sure.

No doubt I'll be back again... hopefully can snag more photos too!
This was the second time I've been here and I loved it the first time. My friend hadn't been so we decided to go there this morning for an early brunch.
Everything was great until I was trying to get the attention of someone to order our food and drinks, because the only girl there was making coffee and 2 other male waiters were at the back of the restaurant serving, I first caught the eye of a tall, white, caucasian, curly, light brown hair near the registers. Instead of acknowledging me he walks off, I thought ok maybe he didn't see me, so I continue to get the attention of someone. Finally I get eye contact with him again and when I asked politely if we could order, he asks me to wait...thinking he is doing something and might get someone....but he was walking around doing bits and pieces, then eventually seating a group that walks in...walked around a bit more and then finally came to order.
When we came to paying for the bill my friend asked for 2 brewnuts but forgot to ask for them in separate boxes, I apologise and ask for them to be separated, he plonked the box on the table turned to get another box separated them and no joke, literally threw the tongs onto the counter. He didn't even tell us how much the bill was until we looked at the Eftpos machine.
I couldn't tell if this was a case of discrimination of race or what, but I don't want to experience it again or be served by him again, if anything I'll only go back for brewnuts (take away only).
Mr & Mrs Bottomless Pitt
Incredible patisserie from Tasmania upstairs.

Brewtown apparently traveled to Tasmania and brought to Sydney only the best. The result? Finally something new and exciting! Our favourite was the various soft biscuit sandwiches with a range of fillings that will certainly hit the spot for most.
Ace
This place is the best spot for brunch in Newtown. Hands down. I have yet to have something from here that was not 5 stars. I love this place.
Eatdrinkbe_merry
Without a doubt the coffee here at this popular Newtown hang is the thing that draws the crowds. However, I come here for their bagels and light meals too. Dropped in for their delicious smoked salmon bagel which was abundant with cream cheese, fennel, capers and the best quality lox. Love the industrial interiors and being surrounded by a sense of history here in this charming warehouse! Upstairs is the coffee roasting area and the bakehouse where they make all their baked goods on the premises!
Nikki
Had a pecan caramel scroll. Couldn't have a coffee as they don't even have almond milk. Really don't know what the hype is about this place. I'm from Melbourne and was disappointed. I would recommend the pastries and that's about it.
I_like_pickles
Nice quick service. A bit on the expensive side for regular breakfast foods. Portions were a okay size but not good if you're really hungry. Famous for their cronuts
Love At First Bite
Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus

Brewtown Newtown is a great cafe in Newton that specialises in cronuts, so we had to try their cronut burger, which was a savoury cronut with beef patty, bacon and a side of chips, however we found their serving sizes to be small. Their sweet cronuts are delicious though
Roxy Xie
The branch here is really special.it's a really nice place to have an experience with modern Australian!!!what I like most is the Donna there.and it is really nice to have it with a cup of coffee.they even serve the sprinkle water for free!
Marco Su
Ordered: root beets, beef brisket & poached eggs, chips, long black and a late

Goods:

- friendly staff, sat within seconds
- coffee's had flavour and a variety to choose from
- wide range of food for all eaters (Vegans, carnivores etc)
- basic meals but done well
- top desserts for the sweet tooth
- food came out fast

Bads:
- Beef brisket said 'brocoloni' but came out with what look to be Asian lettuce. I may be wrong with this.
- might be difficult to find
- one unisex bathroom

Trendy and industrial hide away, good vibes from the staff and chilled atmosphere. Hidden away from traffic and people. Will come back for the ' milo cronut.' Desserts and coffee outshown the food menu here, but that's not to say the food wasn't good.

I hardly frequent this side of town, so I did make an effort to come to Newtown for this cafe (after the whole hype of fake cronuts, or now they call Brewnuts here, since as I've mentioned a million times, Cronuts is trademarked by Dominique Ansel). There weren't any Brewnuts here, so my streak of not having fake cronuts continues (which is a good thing)
Sydney_food_journal
Had a very pleasant brunch experience recently at Brewtown. I ordered the crab scrambled eggs and it was simple yet delicious. The texture of the eggs was slightly runny (which I prefer) and silky smooth with flavours of the crab coming through nicely. My friend ordered the bagel w avocado & corn salsa which was quite nice too. The highlight was definitely their cronuts, I've heard the hype and I can confirm their reputation for making the best cronuts is well justified. I tried the mango & raspberry cronut and the lemon meringue cruffin and omg I was in sugar heaven!!
Benkyousuru
The exterior looked like an old factory, it was left relatively untouched. The décor was simple and rustic. It was a bit dimmer than most cafes. The ceiling was high therefore making it feel larger than it actually is. It was very busy during Tuesday brunch time, nevertheless the service quality was not bad.

I ordered the eggs benedict with a cup of latte. The presentation was very poor and the plate was too large that I may need a magnifying glass to find my food (large white plates emphasise the presentation of the food itself). It tastes much better than it looks. The acidic hollandaise just cuts through all the grease from the buttery brioche and fatty prosciutto. The latte was very aromatic and strong, one of the better coffees in Sydney. I personally didn’t like this café that much but to be fair, it was one of the better cafes in Sydney. However in Newtown there are a couple more spectacular cafes.
George Jreije
Been here several times. Always ends up being a great choice for food and coffee. Ordered the squid ink benedict with cured salmon as well as the signature steampunk coffee.
The benedict was cooked to perfection and would definitely be a recommendation. The steampunk was nice but pricy for $15. Possibly the most expensive coffee I've had.
Robert Bourke
Amazing coffee and the cronuts are impeccable.!!! The staff were friendly, one minor issue is the line to pay your bill is the same line as the takeaway coffee line, maybe offer pay at table service with a mobile EFT.
Finleyhimawan
Love their ambience and brunch menu! Their menu is always fresh and just perfect to start the day. The ambience is great and even though you have to queue a little bit, it will be worth it! We tried the salmon and pasta dish which both are really yummy and the coffees too are excellent. We will definitely come back. Too bad we were too full to try the cronuts.
Low Pui Ngai
One of my favorite cafe during my shop trip sydney. Food here are generally really good, especially their eggs. Be it scrambled or poached, they are all pretty consistent. My favorite item here will have to be the cronuts, its crispiness was just right and it was really flavorful. Expect long waits to this establishment though as locals love it very much.
Leon
Brewtown is definitely among the best cafes in Sydney. The signature Nutella cronuts were crispy and fluffy (at the same time). They were so addictive that I bought half a dozen back. The salmon eggs Benedict was pretty decent but it would be even better if the hollandaise sauce was not so acidic and sour.

Saw a group of people in a side street in Newtown and had a look. It were peopme waiting for a table at Brewtown. We knew we had to go here :) Got our name on the list and spent some time at the record store upstairs. Coffees were good, service was fine. Meat is free range so we could pick anything. Don't know what exactly we had because the menu on zomato is out of date. We had squid ink rolls with eggs benedict and salmon and we had the summer gazpacho. The benedict came with cold eggs, but after we returned it they remade it with the eggs the right temperature. Both dishes were lovely. I can see why people are queueing to eat here.

Today We intend to go there for breakfast. Really bad service in there. I go to sit inside about 15 mins nobody to take care us( not busy time), it may we are Asian guys. Poor!!!

Had the Brew Burger and it's the best burger by far along with their crispy chips! The side wasn't enough so we ordered another bowl of it! I've since recommended this place as one of the top burger joints along with The Grounds Of Alexandria! Coffee is really great too! Love this place! :)

Had a milo cronut and a danish with coffee..well earnt rank as one of (if not the best) coffee place in Sydney. It's tucked in an alleyway so not immediately obvious from street front
Hello Miss May
Seriously, the best Cronuts in town. It's in Brewtown Newtown...

Hottest place to be in Newtown. Seriously.

I've always knew this place as the Berkewlouw book store back in my hey day. When I entered Brewtown Newtown, a chic cafe set in an industrial warehouse space, I was wowed by how packed it was. I loved it from the moment I was greeted by Aidan who let me know when my table will be ready. A pre-warning, there is always a queue at Brewtown Newtown.

The cronuts or better known as Brewnuts, were utterly love at first sight. Matcha Berry Jam and Lemon Meringue were glorious, with delicious filling oozing out from the centre.

I had the most delicious and fresh Breakfast Juice made of kale, apple, celery and ginger.

I went for herbal infusions. Can't say no to "Apres Meal Infusion" with exotic flavours of lemongrass, peppermint, ceylon cinnamon and rosehip.

The new all day breakfast + lunch winter menu is out at Brewtown Newtown, and lets get real, that's why I'm here.

More on the blog
hellomissmay.com/blog

It's been at least a year since I have been to Brewtown and all of my previous visits have been decent. We went for brunch on a Sunday morning and I was very happy to get a table straight away as there is normally a wait. The coffee was great and they gave us a jug of sparkling water for free as their standard water. There were lots of options to choose and we decided to go with the special Brekkie Burger which had bourbon and rosemary bacon with a fried egg, hash brown, kale slaw and BBQ sauce. The brekkie burger was huge and a little difficult to eat but very tasty. We also ordered the coffee rub beef brisket with mushrooms and caramelised onions on toast, hummus, horseradish goats cheese, beetroot and two poached eggs. It was delicious, the meat felt apart and had a deep rich flavour. The hummus and goats cheese were a good balance to the dish and there was small diced pieces of Beetroot that brought the dish together YUM. This is probably the best cafe in newtown with a good variety of dishes.

When i came was around 2pm in the afternoon. I ordered the specials and 1 cup of coffee. The coffee was absolutely nice and perfect for my pallate. The specials was french toast cronuts with cherry, cream cheese, and white chocolate cake. It was really nice and wonderful. but the only letdown that the cherries is not perfectly pit. I bit into one of the seed. But everything was perfect, the place is really nice and hipster.

Very nice cafe, located at the center of Newtown intesection, nice ambiance, busy but not to the point that it's annoying. Coffee was great! Definitely coming back!

The Elvis burger's flavour was quite nice but definitely was way too oily. Should definitely try their cronuts, pasta and coffee! Nice hang out spot located in a small Street

Coffee and fancy food in hipsterville! Most of the rating has got to be the passing clientele in Newtown. It's a good experience if it's your thing.

One of the best spots for breakfast in Sydney! The prices a very reasonable - you spend about $16 on breakfast plus coffee. Cafes in the suburbs charge you the same for 'blah' bacon and eggs... Not that there's anything wrong with an Aussie brekkie, it's just the food is on another level here! The coffee is very good here too which is great because you can enjoy your breakfast without being ruined by a not so good coffee.

A very satisfying brunch! The friendly staff introduced the specialty coffee there so we had chance to learn as well. The making of steampunk seems time-consuming so we appreciate the great effort of the team. Ordered watermelon&berries french roast, and slow cooked beef brisket - both are in reasonable portion with great taste. Didn't dare to try the infamous cronut - they look beautiful though.😍

Had a really decent meal and coffee this morning. The service is pretty nice and we got offered free test batch coffee while we were waiting our meal. Definitely would come back!!

In Short: Excellence with both coffee and food. Great vibe with attentive service.

Cocooned against the noise of King St, it’s a cool little retreat in Newtown. With bulbous lamps, an eighties soundtrack pumping away, and silver fans turning with vigour, we take a seat at the communal table, one of two at Brewtown. If you have not heard of Brewtown you have to be living under a rock as it’s taken Sydney’s café scene by storm ever since it opened in 2013. Don’t believe me, then rock up on Saturday or Sunday and check out the lines of hungry folk out the front awaiting a prized seat. The irony is, you could walk straight past O’Connell St, enchanted by the kaleidoscope of culture and colour of Newtown, and miss it. A bar spans the length of the café and the characteristics of the old warehouse have been maintained with exposed bricks and concrete floors.

The vegan fritters are the best corn fritters I have had all year!! I could probably even go with ‘my whole life’ but that sounds a little dramatic and I have a pretty bad memory so can’t be certain. Either way, they were incredible and so, so delicious. Comes with a jalapeno dressing and I loved how it was actually really spicy – so good! Super fresh and loads of ingredients, and at only $16 it is ridiculously satisfying. To be fair I did add hash browns for an extra $4.50, but I’m sure it would’ve been filling without.

The juice I had was a typical green juice, refreshing and makes you feel like you’re being super healthy. They also had a coconut yogurt with chia & pandan sago with lychees and pineapple, and strawberry & mint salsa on the menu, which is definitely something to try for next time. Sounds delicious.

Service was attentive and friendly, really on the ball. They also serve sparkling water, which personally I am not a fan of, but can appreciate the fact that they do and I’m sure most people would enjoy it.

I can imagine it being packed out on the weekend as it was still buzzing and pretty full even on a weekday. Definitely worth checking out still and if there is a line, worth the wait. If the fritters are anything to go by, the chef is amazing and everything is bound to be delicious. Or if all else fails, try the fritters and with them alone you will be a happy camper.

The food at Newtown Brewtown is remarkably reliable; they've never let me down. Their brunch-heavy menu offers something for all times of the day and every style of taste. Weirdly, I seem to be the only person that doesn't absolutely love their coffee. I've tried it in all forms and all specialties but it just doesn't whack me in the face like other places.

Brewtown newtown is well known and if you aren't fond of waiting on your weekend, steer clear. I usually go during the week and being seated is never a problem. I like the sparkling water on arrival and their breakfast juice is pretty good.

Best known for their cronuts or brewnuts, the passionfruit curd is not always available but it is always delicious. The perfect combination of sweet and tart. For savoury, I've never been disappointed. The salmon dish is amazing but the menu changes seasonally.

Service from the staff has been hit and miss but I'd return for the food.

Brewtown Newtown is a cosy place for some really nice coffee. I ordered an iced long black with soy milk it was delicious, the coffee was amazing. The service was really accommodating and friendly. I will be back for some food one day!!!

Hailing from Melbourne, I always find myself comparing cafes in other cities to the calibre of what can be found in Melbourne’s unique and industry-leading speciality coffee scene. These can be largely categorised as “normal” cafes (in lieu of a better word) and food cafes. The rhythmically named Brewtown Newtown is the perfect example of a Melbourne food cafe, but in Sydney.

On side lane from the main drag you'll find this large rustic room with great food and coffee. Brewtown deserves much cred, it's the simple attention to detail that wins me. Big open plan space, assortment of textures with wood, tiles and steel. Then there's the food. Simply delicious. Not trying too hard to impress, just being real.

If you are from overseas and reading this Newtown is a great artistic spot in Sydney. Free thinkers, students, individuals and all sorts roam the streets. Brewtown works perfectly here. All I ate was a chicken sandwich, but it's the simply sensational sandwich you want. As for the coffee, it's nec level, we tried two filters, a steam punk special and another. I like filter cause I seem to be able to drink more. The waiter suggested the little treat and I'm so glad he did. Like a croissant covered in toffee, not too sweet tho and a perfect finish to a great meal.

This is a great spot.

Went here thinking that we would get some of the food on the featured menu on zomato but instead got a different menu selection. But still yummy. Coffees were great. Very hip environment with great vibe and lively music. Had the prawn pasta squid ink which was really good - the flavours all worked really well. The hubby had the smoking gun bagel with homemade avocado guacamole and charred corn - so yummy with a slight kick of spice. Apparently the place is known for their cronuts but we didn't feel like having them at that hour - might have to make another visit for a sample.

I thought this was the place to be in Newtown?! Nothing on the menu looked particularly appealing so I ordered eggs with add ons. Bacon was so tasteless i didn't finish it and avocado smash was boring. The others i was with didn't think much of their meals either. What a disappointment.

Brew-frown. I think I had the worst dish I've ever tasted today at brew-frown. the Beetroot gazpacho was objectively revolting. Too salty to eat, I mistook the tiny pieces if toast for croutons, the flavours of the gazpacho were mismatched, overly seasoned, too slimy to eat with anything else on the dish. And to top it off, the whole cafe smelt like rotting fish. Please guys, get some ventilation . Oh wait don't worry I won't be back

For all the hype that I heard about this place I was disappointed. $16 for a small bacon egg roll... tasty yes... worth that... no way! My girl got the vegan corn fritters... again, overpriced, small and just not that tasty. I was very disappointed when my plate was forcibly taken from me by a rude waiter. When I asked if there was a shortage of plates as I'd rather it stay there until my girl finished her meal (common politeness), he continued to take it. Won't return here.
