Review The Bank - Newtown

Sadly a 1 star review. I cannot believe what happened tonight. The bar staff were extremely rude to the point they would roll their eyes when ordering a drink. I have never felt so unwelcome in my life. Various customers at the bar expressed there horror at the treatment received by all bar staff at both bars. For example, when asking a bar staffer for something the staffer huffed and walked off and I was left there without the assistance. Newtown has always been a vibrant, accepting and fun place…. Sadly the Bank did not show this and gave a sour feel to the Newtown experience. Sorry “Bank” not a good look at all in our beautiful Newtown neighbourhood. Sadly we won’t be going there again….. thankfully the Townie staff next-door pub were kind, helpful and made us feel welcome.

For an establishment draped in pride flags, The Bank is hardly the most tolerant place. Shortly after purchasing my second drink of the night (I was driving), I was singled out from my table of four and told I was intoxicated. After politely advising this was impossible, I was told to “shut it” and that I needed to leave. A quick look at other reviews indicates a clear cultural problem with security. Being made to feel small and embarrassed is not my idea of a fun Friday night. Take your money elsewhere.

Yo the bank be banking me for another visit any time soon LOL. I mean seriously this place is dope AF, look at the picture of that food just look at it I mean come on it is so good looking I just want to make out with my food is that weird? No, because no one at the bank would ever judge you for making out with your food. Love the fact that you can order your drinks from the table and they bring it to you so incredibly ingenious and convenient. I’ll be back to weird people out while I make out with my food, yeah I said it!

We had a good evening here! Cocktails back in the court yard were great and I would definitely come back. The music upstairs was so so but overall we had a good time.

Had horrible service from service staff confusing tables beers, staff member then belittled our table, off shift staff member continued on tirade over our trans group making us feel very uncomfortable taking over whole outside deck area, with friends drinking on shift or when finished due to taking over venue? Feeling attacked received warning and move along within one minute, security guard continued to take photographs of our group making us feel very uncomfortable making our feel unsafe, although this may be illegal.

Took the family to dinner @ Avi’s. Wow! What a find!! Modern Mediterranean. Thoroughly impressed! Try their dips, steak, roast chicken. Even the Brussel sprouts were great! (I can’t stand Brussel sprouts!). We’ll be back!

The bouncer asked my friend to leave because a woman claimed he stared at her! a few minutes later he asked me to leave too without any reason! Don’t spend your hard-earned money there, Disgusting attitude manager. I’ve never in my life feels so discriminated! I have never had such a horrible experience in a pub... Avoid this place with an awful vibe if you don't want to ruin your day. The One feeling I hope nobody experiences..., They just Ignored me when I asked them to check CCTV, they want me to leave because I'm a man. The worse pub in Newtown!

The Bank Hotel security really embrace the schoolyard bully vibe. Shortly after sitting down for a meal with my partner, we were surrounded by three bouncers and a woman who we assumed was some type of manager or team lead. We were advised that we were unacceptably intoxicated, despite the fact we had both come directly from work and had not even started on any drinks. No discussion, no explanation, just total rudeness and to be frank, unprofessionalism from all involved. I hope my chicken parmi/parma was able to be finished by another hungry patron. May as well have been at a Merivale establishment.
