Review Happy Chef - Newtown

No wonder they call that place happy chef! That’s because when you leave you just feel happy! I’m going there the past seven years, never been disappointed not even once! The staff? just amazing! The menu? Displayed on the wall with images and prices, it’s just too easy to order! They also do offer a surprisingly big selection of international beverages. Hearty meals cooked the way you’ll cook for someone you love. Big portions of good food in an calm environment who doesn’t get fussy no matter how busy the restaurant is. Price wise just perfect and reasonable for what you get!! Eating at happy chef makes your tummy and your soul happy!

I have been coming to Happy Chef for at least 10 years. I took a bit of a hiatus as I moved out the area for almost 2 years - and when I came back this weekend, they still remembered my order! Huge menu to choose from with options within each dish. I love the BBQ pork wonton noodle soup and very rarely have ordered anything else. My friend ordered the Lemongrass Pork Chop - and it was amazing! Happy Chef is also open quite late so for any late night, cheap food spots - Happy Chef is the place to go to!

We ordered a noodle soup dish and a crispy chicken no rice on a weekday lunch time. It was average level busy but the dishes took about 20 mins to arrive. The noodle soup was fine, but the chicken was dry and over cooked. They didn’t give a discount for no rice, so that’s $13.50 for a half dry chicken. Further, staff were pretty unfiriendly when ordering, and to top it off, the waitress asked us to move because she was expecting a big group at 1.30pm, even though the place wasn’t full (we refused to move). Won’t be back for a while.

Happy Chef is a great value option for CBD lunches. I'd recommend takeaway as the decor & seating is in need of a serious upgrade. But the attention clearly goes to the food where it should be. Great rice based dishes and noodle dishes. Best to arrive before 12:30pm to avoid the sometimes long queues.

Ordered Chinese scrambled egg, got wet slosh. I didn't say anything I just put it to one side. Then surprisingly the chef came up and asked if everything was ok (sarcasm I feel as they knew they'd served me slosh). I said I wasn't going to eat it as it's not Chinese scrambled egg, and chef said, oh we are not Chinese, we are Cantonese. Thats why it's different. Won't be going back. Don't need slosh with a side of sarcasm.

This is a wonderful place for a good bowl of laksa. They have a huge menu but I can never go past the vegie laksa! It's always tasty, fresh, quick and cheap. The serves are generous and the service is friendly and efficient.

Food is delicious! Best mongolian lamb I have had. Restaurant is clean and staff are always very friendly. I always enjoy dining here.
