Review Chill Cafe - Newtown

Glad to see the crowd coming back post covid. They'd be having a hard time... Always fresh food - the grilled chicken stick is very tasty and tender with a mild oregano flavor, just like high standard home cooked food. The mixed plate comes with olives, chirozo, pita bread and haloumi. Always order the mixed dip as well, and you could order extra bread as a filling up appetizer and a main course suits 2 to finish up the meal.

This café always has excellent service with a smile and the friendly staff, led by Satya, the owner of the cafe who always makes myself and my dog feel welcome. Great welcoming atmosphere and very comfortable dining experience.

Very slow service we ordered a burger at 1pm and still waiting 1:35pm poor communication. Food finally came out 40 mins late. I gave feedback of the slow service as we waiting with two kids under 4 years. She yelled at me and asked me to leave her shop and band me from ever returning. Great customer service. Punish your customers for your poor service.

The food here is very average but I live across the road and I'm too lazy to walk further for better food. The can drinks are really good though

Service staff are super friendly, and the location is great. Food is alright, long wait time for us (30min for breakfast for 2). I would recommend for a coffee and small meal!

Great little corner cafe. We each had the BLAT with a side order of chips. The BLAT was full of flavour. The chips, not to small French fry’s tripe but a good chunky chip that was well seasoned. Great staff and great food. We will be back.

OK since you are confused by my review, I will clarify. YES I do have the right place so, no need to try and be condescending. Weak coffee and stale panini - roll - bap - split hairs and call it what you will it was still stale, dry, yucky tasting. Whatever you want to call the bread doesn't detract from the fact that it was not fresh. It was old and dry and difficult to swallow. But, what would I know I've only been a chef for 20+ years!!! Hot food served on cold plates...seriously? Once food is served customers are ignored and one has to get up and walk to the counter to ask for anything extra. I normally have two cups of coffee on such an occasion but my empty cup sat on the table for almost half an hour and no visit from the waitress...not that I would have been able to endure another cup of what is served here as coffee. No crema and full of grit. Was I unlucky, because the reviews for this place are positive?...which is why I was keen to try. Unfortunately, the only thing good about this place is leaving.

Thank the cafe gods for this place. Friendly service, acknowledged me as soon as I walked in, reasonably priced, delicious food, simple, non-pretentious, non-hipster/wanker vibe. After dealing with the ridiculous pretention and non-service that has infected King Street like an awful insecure beardy cold-drip disease, this place is a breath of fresh air. So, so good.

Good simple and well priced food. I have moved out of the area now but still visit when I can. Calm atmosphere away from the busier end of King Street.

Head here for a good honest breakfast. It might not be a hispter hangout but the food is great value and tastes fantastic. I'd say they've created a good balance of quality vs quantity. We'll be heading back to try out the lunch options soon with some of those specials sounding delicious.

Matt’s and my big breakfasts lived up to their names. The plates were enormous, nearly as wide as the table. Luckily, that meant there was plenty of room to array and arrange our food so that we could try out all the possible combinations. Egg + toast = the obvious starting point – lovely yellow yokes soaking into light vienna toast, cut to a reasonable thickness (no need for a steak knife to cut your toast here). Bacon + tomato + mushroom = excellent. Hashbrown + egg + bacon = yes! Egg + bacon + tomato = mmm… Wait a minute, what about these sausages, hiding behind the bacon? Well yes, they go very nicely with everything too.

Chillicious!. An unexpectedly delicious breakfast was had by all: me, my husband, my brother and my brother-out-law here at Chill. Tasty and interesting choices with good juices and coffees too. Read all about it here: http://paintingthebridge.com/2015/01/18/477-chill-cafe-the-bacon-jam-revelation/

Love it. I love coffee and I tried a lot of the coffee Newtown has to offer, Chill by far has the best. Strong, smooth and consistent.

Great food, coffee and service with a smile. Stopped by to have a quick bite and a coffee. I had the sloppy joes and they were delicious. the service was friendly and attentive. I will be back.

New Management. Seen the new management sign and had to try again. came last year and everything was deep fried. it was bloody beautiful. I had one of the specials on the board (risotto) and my partner had the full breakfast. they were good side portions and the price was pretty good as well. ill go back

No thank you!. Tables had not been cleared from previous customers and the service was extremely average. The food, although generous servings, was of a poor standard. I did not enjoy my experience with Chill cafe.

Can improve. Sadly my experience at chill wasn't what I expected. He food I ordered took longer than expected and was warm. The serving was ample though. Chill has since corner location but needs to improve

Sadly very average. Yet a café and location with so much potential. Service is poor.

Ohh dear.... Living in Newtown, I and a couple of friends usually spend our Sundays discovering new cafe's in the local area as there are so many. As I walked down King Street one day, a little cafe caught my eye. It was on a prime location with cute little tables and chairs outside. It had all the promise like so many other cafe in Newtown. This was to be our next venture...

Arriving at the cafe the first impression was good, but this would soon change. First thing we noticed that the service is not very good. I got the feeling that there once was great motivation and enthusiasm, but this I think over time has turned into a rather slack routine of "service". The milkshake we ordered just got put in the middle of the table somewhere for "who ever" ordered it without saying a word. The same happened after ordering our food, were someone dropped all our cutlery in the middle of the table in a bulk without a word. This seemed to be the way everything was done.

Then the food... I ordered a BIG Chill breakfast...Sound promising! To what I can later only describe as a breakfast the size of an island. This should not be a problem of course, but after trying some of the different elements of this dish it was very obvious that it was all volume and no taste! At first sight I could not find the toast, to later find out it's underneath everything, to which of course the toast has all sloppy and wet.

Now of course I'm no expert...And writing something like this is of course very easy from the comfort of my home. But for some reason this really bothered me after leaving the cafe. This cafe has so much potential! It would be really good for this cafe to let the staff be more motivated, lively and more engaging with their customers. And regarding food, I personally would rather have less food with a lot better quality then just a pile of food as filler.

If anything I mentioned in this review would not bother you, then this is your place! But I personally would expect more from a cafe...

Delish!. Amazing food (the breakfast is the best - the ultimate hangover cure!), yummy coffee, great location! Staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. You don't feel hurried out here which is so nice. Definitely a must go!

Food is ok, big servings. Service is very poor, long wait just to receive drinks. staff range from disinterested to plain rude.

CAN'T GET ENOUGH. I have a couple of allegiances to Newtown cafes, and this is one of them! Trendy, urban-edge, and street-chic, this cafe is like a "Kinder Surprise" as it has a great mix of modern, quick bites and traditional cafe favourites like the huge steak sandwich and awesome ice cold milkshakes, all wrapped up in a trendy, bright and happy space. It's one of the best spots in Newtown to chill out (do you think that's why they named it chill? lol!) and people watch. Have to say that the Portuguese cjicken burger keeps me coming back, and the Big Chill breakfast for one is big enough for me, my partner, and our roomie!! Great value, flawless service, and impeccable food. One of the best dining experiences on King St.

XXXL Breakfast. I loved this cafe for the tasty food and the size of the serves. If you want a big feed and don't mind siting on the edge of busy King Street - then this is the place. Our breakfast was so big, it required two plates... Great value, friendly service and a bit of gritty street vibe thrown in for free.....

My Fav!. Fantastic local cafe! Food is freshly cooked and the servings are huge. Can't find better value for money in Newtown. This place is great, from the friendly staff, great coffee, and perfect location, I don't even bother going anywhere else anymore. This place sets the Newtown standard

Not very impressed. Service is fine, hygiene needs a lot of work, food can sometimes be undercooked. it really depends on the day. midweek is better than weekends in Chill but dont expect much
