Review Big Daddy's Burgers - Newtown

Laura BlackRoseStar
Whilst waiting around to get pierced we wandered into this cool little place. Friendly young server helped decide what to eat. The home wrecker dawg and junior daddy. The home wrecker dawg was huge, and the junior paid homage to that sauce from the other establishment - only creamer and less tart. Special mention to the curly fries 🤤🤤🤤🤤 If you are wanting a good burger, and are in the area, give them a try..

I personally had a good experience here! Came here on a whim last night at ~9pm. Service was decent and the food was also pretty good. I got the honey mustard burger and the honey mustard sauce was really nice. The curly fries were okay, personally found them a bit dry. In terms of the speed of service, I thought it was great. The food came so quickly and no real complaints. Also, the vibe of the place is super cute - nice American diner style restaurant with tv’s that play the music videos of old, retro songs. Probably won’t come here again just cause I don’t eat beef or pork, but it’s nice for a quick bite

Good customer service. Not many vegetarian options. Would have loved more variety like Halloumi or mushroom burgers. But tried their vegan one, not bad. Loved the staff and the curly chips ofcourse
Hana
Great atmosphere and just an overall good place to hang out with friends especially if you are younger! The prices are eh but to be expected. Never been disappointed with the food (onion rings sLAP *chefs kiss*). Good place to go with friends after a walk through newtown.

Been getting sick twice for a raw patty. But because i absolutely love the atmosphere, I thought I'd give it a shot one more time. Still served raw pink patties. The waitress said its medium rare 💀💀💀 patty was pinker than nickiminaj wig.

Terrible! Ordered burger without bacon and can smell bacon grease through and through. The quesadillas had burnt bits stuck to tortillas. Makes me feel the kitchen is chaotic and no surface cleaning between meal preps. Curly fries were the only redemption but not enough to bring us back.

This ‘diner’ was horrible to say the least. I was really looking forward to enjoying a true American meal but the reality of it was a disappointment. The ‘nachos’ were corn chips and squired cheese sauce and salsa from a jar. Curly fries were stale and over cooked which probably meant that there was no direction in the kitchen. Worst meal I ate.
charlotte silvestri
terrible. I am a person with Anaphylaxis to a few foods and ordered just the brisket and chips, the waitress did not pay any attention or care and just agreed with everything i was saying. I asked if the chips were just potato and that's all and she said yes. The chips came out with lamb seasoning so i asked if there were ingredients, she came back with a photo on her phone and left it on the table, the ingredients were in a different language so i asked if i could refund them as i did not touch them or trust it, she then came back telling me i could eat them as they did not contain the food i cannot have. Had an anaphylactic reaction in the newtown station bathroom. coming from a waitress myself the service was absolutely putrid and extremely unprofessional. I have never experienced this type of poor service before.

As soon as I walked into Big Daddy's I fell in love with the American diner style of the place! The staff were friendly and service was a quite reasonable for how busy it was. Burgers were delicious (and cheap!), and of course any meal with curly fries is a winner! Thinking I should skip on a shake after a whopper of a burger, I definitely had food envy with my friend sipping on her strawberry shake....lets just say that I am now a firm believer in always saving room for dessert! Will definitely be back for more soon Big Daddy's.

Ok wilth all these over priced burger joints I expected very big servings. I got the Chickefn burger and my boyfriend got the veggie burger. It was alright not great as my bun was burnt and it was gone with 3 bites. The sweet potato fries were good and that kinda saved the over priced burger. I'll still lick to pub burgers as you get better value for money. Good luck!

Been a whole bunch of times and ordered about 6 different things and love all of em! This is american style comfort food at its finest. The burgers are delicious and , i feel , well priced (the WHOSYOURDADDY is my favourite) . The hotdogs are chorizo based franks which give them a bit more flavour kick and them milkshakes.... WOW! Definately recommend the cookies and cream milkshake! Sides are great too (deep fried cheese sticks and onion rings are the bomb!) and i love the overall atmosphere and the staff are all friendly. #bigdaddyburgerbar4life

I had the veggie burger and curly fries. The food was tasty, filling and decent enough. However, charging $2 for a tiny pot of ranch dipping sauce is a little over the top.

Long waiting times, sub par food. Ordered two meals, mine arrived 15 minutes before my boyfriends (mine took 20 mins his took 35), which was a bit odd as they should have been served together. I ordered nachos, it came with next to no toppings, after 6 bites it was just a basket of dry chips. Toilets were absolutely DISGUSTING. Pee all over the walls and floor (at least that's what it smelt and looked like) nothing to dry hands on and barely any light. Serving sizes were very small for the the price also. After talking my boyfriend into coming here I can definitely say this will not be a mistake I make again.

A big shout out to AJ last night for the best burger experience in Sydney so far... My partner attempted the Ass Burner sauce despite fair warning.. AJ was kind enough to bring him a glass of milk while he sweat profusely through the heat of the kicker sauce ! Great burgers - great atmosphere - great staff ! A real gem in our local neighbourhood ! Thank you for a great night last night and we will see you again soon !!! My only regret was that I saw you had cheesy fries after I had already eaten half of my curly fries... But there is always next time ! Thank again to Big Daddy's for an amazing food experience !
Susan Caroline
Faeces. Just pure, pure faeces. Not even personified though bc we never got our food. Just theoretical faeces.
Simon Nicholls
An excellent burger restaurant with brilliant displays and great burgers. I recommend this place to anyone who loves burgers.

I had the burger called "Say My Name" which has lettuce, beef patty, bacon, onion ring, relish, Mayo etc... Food was delicious! It tasted like the REAL burger should be 😆 also, had sides of sweet potato fries, and onion rings, they are really good too! 😆😆😆 down side is, this place is Packed! so, expect to wait in a long queues, but definitely worth waiting ! I'll be back real soon !

Had lunch at the Newtown diner where the staff were very friendly and helpful, ordered the OMG burger and it lived up to its name it was hot and I mean hot, but got through it and the after effects lasted for quite some time afterwards. The curly fries were curly and the sweet potato fries were great.

My husband and I had lunch here yesterday and we LOVED the place!! I had Jr. Daddy burger and my husband had the bacon Swiss & mushroom burger. We also had the Curly fries, which were amazing!!! The staff were really friendly and we loved the music playing, we will totally return again when we are back in Newtown.

The burgers and curly fries are great...would def go again next time in town and sample the rest of their menu. Great to be able to have a beer while waiting for take away. The wait on the other hand was a nightmare. On arrival the cashier stated that the wait for takeaway was 20 mins. I asked if it was going to be 20 minutes as I had a show to go to at the Enmore...was fine to go somewhere else if it was longer. It will be twenty, hopefully less I was told after checking with the kitchen. After 25-30 minutes I asked if it was going to be much longer and was told it was just on its way. The food came 45 minutes later and the cashier changed her story saying she said 20 - 30 minutes. Still not 45. Also after paying about $40.00 for food on card, I came back to get a beer a few minutes later and they charged me a card surcharge for the second transaction! Food 8.5/10 Service 2/10

Probably the worst burger I've eaten. Went with 3 other people, no one enjoyed what they ordered. Poor quality and tasteless.
Tim Richards
In an empty store waited over 20 mins for a burger. They seemed way more intrested in getting uber eats food/foodora orders out than customers in the store. Cant deny the food tho, Best burgers in sydney
Jerry Calderon
Worst service ever. We waited over 30 minutes for 2 burgers and fries. There were literally 6 people, already eating in your restaurant before us. No one else waiting for food, but we still waited 35 minutes for burgers. When I spend $40 for burgers, it shouldn't take that long. If you can't serve burgers quicker, then you shouldn't be in business! Two other people that came in after us were offered drinks and apologies for waiting and no one ever acknowledged us. Sincerely the worst service in Sydney!
Melissa Melanie
My boyfriend loved his burger and the chicken wings, especially the ass burner sauce. I had a dawg and it was so delicious, the sausage has so much flavour and spice. We are coming back for sure
Micaela Mk MacLachlan
Food is pretty good, but don't come here if you're hungry; you'll be waiting a long time. This is the second time we've ordered takeaway, and both times it's taken over 30 mins for us to get our food (40 mins the second time). Cooked to order is a nice idea, but they can't seem to scale their business for the demands of king st. Didn't even offer us anything to apologise.
Vic Tor
Its a shame i've had an original philly cheese steak from Reading Station in Philly before as this creation was quite decent.. would have loved abit more cheese.. well some actual cheese used would have been great instead of the liquid type. Curly fries were excellent however!
Laurence Von Matterhorn Gamboa
Guys... you guys are making burgers and fries it should take half hour to put it all together What's wrong with you guys..?!?
Timothy Henare-Wynyard
Nor a fan at all. Small burger. Brisket was tasteless. Damn expensive too at $14 for the burger. $5 more gets you curly fries which were disgusting too....only bonus was the tasty Strawberry Milkshake.
Nikki Hunter
Staff do not listen did not end up getting my food because they kept screwing it up learn to listen to an order it's not that hard
Abz Sidhom
Most amazing burgers in newtown ...such friendly staff and the food was just amazing ! Such a great experience !! Ill be back !!!
Chase Daniel Watson
loved it! burgers are brilliant, just might to ease up on all the grease haha but the food was well presented, great taste and it made me feel like I was in America in the 70's
Serina Scott-Mackenzie
Love this place only been open for 3 1/2 weeks and the food is awesome!! Great customer service and a really cool vibe! Will definitely be back!!
Samuel Parrott
Great food, good vibes and super fun staff!! 🙌🍔👌
Ben Fogarty
Been here 3 times in past 3 months. tried something different each time. Loved every meal
Joshua Ross
A little piece of home 🇺🇸 Right here in Sydney. The food is excellent 🍔🍟🍻
Rosemarie Mitchell
Everythings great, but food lacks a little flavor
Mentesh Tumburi
Amazing food! And amazing staff especially the beautiful laura!!
Matius Ng
Love it when the waitress coughs hers lungs up into her hand, then doesn't bother washing her hands. At least the burgers are tasty.
Jason Westerman
Bad service - couldn't explain the menu. Food was below average for the price. Cliche American experience.
Jay Dodd
The Penrith site has the friendliest staff I have ever met and the burgers are phenomenal will be back again and again
Renèe Romanov
I'm sorry, I thought this would be good and remind me of home, but it wasn't. The service was okay and the food was just as bad. Not American at all!
Marianna Tuccia
I had walked past so many times and today we finally tried Big Daddy’s Burger Bar in Newtown. We all enjoyed our burgers and curly fries. I was impressed with the quality of the beef and the burgers were the perfect size. Not too small and not too big. We also loved the retro music playing in the background and the all round retro vibes of the place - we felt like we were back in the States. #burgers #newtown #bigdaddys
Rushad Bachana
Decent burger place in an Americanised highway motel setting. They have some funny and funky wall paraphernalia with a distinctive American touch to it. I quite enjoyed their Cuban sub but the quantity was disappointing. Their OMG ass burner burger which promised to burn your ass with its spicy levels disappointed and was more than manageable. Overall a decent burger joint with good vibes but nothing out of the ordinary.
Mark Antony Ramos
I vouch for Big Daddys food is one of a kind. Tasty, fresh and they don't get the order wrong. Best wings, best burgers, best quesadillas and the rest.
Had my fix today and didn't know how to review how good the food was. Compliments to the team.
Gene Lucas
If you like mediocre service, dry tasteless food and overpriced drinks, this is the place to go. Pay top dollar to order at the counter and then be charged a surcharge to pay by debit card without any warning and then not have the transaction reversed when you request a refund and to pay in cash. Much more to choose from with better quality in the area.
Jade Lee
yummy food but slightly overpriced for what you get. the aesthetic of the place is amazing and there’s the good ol’ music with amazing videos on small tv screens. the curly fries were soo good tho and the chicken burgers pretty average imo. the plates could be actual plates instead of a net so that it would be easier to eat. a nice place to visit in newtown overall!!
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
Curled up at home and not wanting to venture out, home delivery was exactly what I needed!

I ordered the Philly Cheese Sub Combo. It was delivered swiftly. The philly Cheese was served in a large sub. The meat was more beef brisket like rather than thin slices of steak but it was delicious nonetheless with oozy cheese on top. Served with a portion of sweet potato fries (for a surcharge) and a can of soft drink.

It was a nice meal and wouldn’t mind trying something else from their menu.
Dominic Svensson
I've had the beef burgers elsewhere and thought they were an attempt to improve McDonald's - good ingredients but quite plain and not very big even with two patties. However, now that I'm near the Newtown branch, I've tried a couple of their other offerings and cannot recommend them at all. The ranchero chicken burger had very plain grilled chicken (not even sure if it was crumbed as stated in the description) and very little else and was tiny despite costing $15. The philly cheesesteak sub is similarly bad - ordinary steak and yucky american cheese shoved in a supermarket hot dog bun, at least it was much bigger than the chicken burger but still nowhere near $15 worth. I don't think I'll ever return after this but at least with the beef burgers, you can get a simple snack at a fairly reasonable price.

Burgers, hot dogs and beers. What a day! Good place for those who likes eating burgers and hotdogs with a beer. The price is not too bad. The interior looks like 80s era.
Eric Tompson
I guess this is my own fault since I ordered something I knew I wouldn't be big on, but I just couldn't get into the burger I tried here. Macaroni cheese in a burger just felt like cheesy overkill. Of course, I haven't tried the other burgers so I won't go too low a score. As for atmosphere, the 50's style is somewhat cool but really nothing unique for Newtown
Matt Myers
Perhaps because they were so busy that our food was only warm and not served at the same time.
Has a really good taste resemblance of American food but some of which is overpriced.
Such as $7 for curly fries is not worth it especially when they are served cold and the Cuban was ok but pork was dry and the sandwhich which they refer to as a sub is extremely small.
Josie
wasnt a fan of the burger (jr daddy) as it was a bit bland and dry. I was expecting the simple burger to have a bit more of flavour and so on. But the place had lovely and friendly service :)

We ate here with a few friends on a Friday night. Staff were nice, friendly and efficient and helped setup the added seating/table for our group. The ‘saymyname’ burger definitely reminded us of In&Out burgers.. juicy, moist , a perfect blend of sweet and salty with good texture balance. We got this burger as a meal and came with golden crispy fries and a drink. We also had the “honey mustard” chicken burger and added a pineapple slice that complimented the honey mustard dressing. Perfect combination with Crispy onion rings with a good chipotle sauce. All in all had a good experience dinning here, great food, good service. I guess the only fall back is very limited seating, and hard to find parking space to park. Thanks for having us, Big Daddy’s New town!

Had a big daddy burger. It was ok the "special sauce" tasted like the coles brand sauce and hardly special. I can do without the curly fries. The burger was filling but not very tasty. As far as burgers go there are better around and similar price. Nothing special unfortunately because I was really hoping it would be.

Big Daddy burger - best burger yet
Steak, Bacon, Mushroom & Swiss - soo tender 🤤
New York Crunchy Choc Shake - 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Rock salt Caramel shake - Even better 😳🤤
Beef Brisket Burger : 😁 Great
Mac n Cheesy Burger : 😍 Amazing
Curly Fries : 😁 Great
Malteasers Milkshake : 😁 Great

I love the American-themed set up of the place. The Beef Brisket was a tad dry and over cooked but the coleslaw inside helped. The Mac n Cheesy was amazingly juicy and cheesy and all things good in a burger. The Malteasers Shake was also very well worth having.

This place is awesome. Nice staff, speedy service and their cheese sticks are awesome! They offer a vegetarian burger which is nice too and the energy is nice too. Quite cool and laid back. Definitely the best Big Daddy’s location out of the lot.
Jenny
We waited 40 minutes to get our food, for a burger place that was unacceptable. Customers who came in after us, received their sides and drinks before we did. Although, after I spoke to one of the staff members about it, she offered to give us complimentary drinks or sauces.

We had the 'The Big Daddy' which is a double patty and double cheese original burger, which was really good!! And the 'Beef Brisket' which was average, nothing special. The curly fries with chipotle sauce is sooooo goood. We also had the cookies and cream milkshake which was nice but the Maltesers one is nicer.
Food Is Really Great
The Saymyname burger is tall (as in, stacked really high) and kind of messy to eat but it's alright! I love the diner aesthetic and atmosphere of this place. Actually, the aesthetic was what made me want to go here! The sweet potato fries are good but need some sort of salt or seasoning.
Daehyeon Bernard Choi
Not that bad but petty was too dry to chew. Curly chips is not bad as well. However, price is quite reasonable to me. You can choose combo option one of curly and sweet potato chips acceptable price.
El Chupacabra
Certainly a very good hamburger place. However, for the size and the quantity this place is quite expensive. We ordered a beef burger and a chicken burger and while both were delicious in their own right, the value for money was not present. No fries, no drinks included in the meal. We paid extra for fries and drink and it shot our bill up by 12 dollars. Will visit again, but for the options available in Sydney, there's a lot more to try before coming back.
Su Aye
Food was good. Recommend the Chicken Ranchero. Downside was the wait time as it was around 20-30min wait time for the food, but that gave time for conversations Overall the experience was great.
Nadia Tantapattanakul
This was actually my first experience at Big Daddy's and I'm very impressed. The atmosphere was upbeat and modern. I came with my mom and younger brother and they really enjoyed the food. I ordered the Bacon Swiss & Mushroom ($12) and it was delicious. The curly fries were my favourite. The prices were pretty worth it to be honest. The staff were very polite and friendly. I would definitely come back here.
Funfoodfanatic
This place was terrible overall. The customer service was appalling and the staff were very inconsiderate. We tried to make a reservation a couple days before and failed as their phones number go to directly to voicemail and don't notify the customer that their voicemail message isn't recorded or looked upon. The moment we walked into the store it was immediately seen that Big Daddy's was understaffed as there was only one person serving and one handing out food. The main staff member told us from the start that she was going to show us to a booth when previous customers were finished their meal. However 2 groups of people had left and other inconsiderate customers had taken the booths even though we were standing ready to have a seat and had been waiting for 10 minutes already. After this moment my mum began to ask the waitress for her money back as we had already ordered and were sick of waiting to sit. On a side note it has taken half an hour to find parking since Newtown is very busy, making us more frustrated. The waitress began to ignore us and didn't make a move even after our complaints. After another 10 minutes a standing and waiting the waitress finally put a reserved sign on a finished table and issued us a seat. The food was average and overpriced considering what we were ordered. The jalepeno poppers tasted disgusting and we weren't able to eat them. The other foods that we ordered were nice including the curly fries and mac daddy burger. Also the bathrooms were grotty and sickening. We had to leave straight away after walking into them.
I do not recommend Big Daddys to any one and I certainly will never be eating there again.
Peter Suzie
Ordered a Big Daddy (medium) and Ribs combo $38.50. Waited 20 mins for my burger to arrive. The burger patty was overdone and tasteless.

25 mins later the ribs came with curly fries. I got 4 small sections of the ribs. For $25 combo, I was expecting a lot more than that. The owner gave us extra ribs for the delay. We had to wait another 30 mins for that to arrive. Def wont be coming back to this place.

PRO, the restaurant gave us a very nice american diner feel.
Jacqui Connor
The meat smelt funky, online photos looked a lot better than what we were given.
The big daddy was very dry and the smell was enough to make me not eat it.
Won't be going back
Linna
Interior design was well suited to the american diner theme. The burgers are affordable but quite small with an option to add curly fries. Good thing about this burger place is that you can pick which ingredients to include in the burger. The burgers were quite oily which easily became a mess, other than that, it was very tasty!
Matt.sato
Shocking service. Waited over 40 mins for a standard burger that in the end was nothing to rave about. Perhaps a joint for drunk people only. Never again
Michelle Truong
Recieved great service and love the interior!!! I had the curly fries and chicken ranchero burger, nice crospy chicken and loved the fries :)
Vanessa Iskandar
Much love for the curly fries ! One of the best burger in town, the meat is so juicy and flavourful. The price was affordable and they offer packages with drinks + chips. Overall it was good, but maybe they can improve the buns.
Foodtastic
How is this place still open? The burgers were one of the worst I have ever had, and my standards are so low as well! Genuinely confused how this can be open on a street bursting with great food. Oh, at least the chips are alright.

Summary: Avoid this place.
Sarah
The food isn't fresh, all I could hear was the microwave going right before our chicken wings were served directly to our table. The staff aren't friendly either.

If you are an Aussie looking for classic American food, don't be sucked in by the decor and menu choices.

I love me some good ole American food that takes me back home. This was a swing and a miss.

We have gone several times considering we live in Newtown, and when family are around we always seem to end up here.

I have tried several options. The swiss and mushroom burger, the brisket burger, the classic, and the philly cheesesteak. The quality was less than impressive.
With the philly sandwich, in the States you would get fresh strips of steak with peppers and onions covered in swiss cheese.

The sandwich here was more of a minced meat and nacho cheese, and to have onions or peppers it was an additional charge.

I also tried the Brisket burger which was more of a heated up square of meat that didn't have the smoky bbq taste at all.

The burgers are decent but small patties. And very very greasy.

My partners Mom ordered a shake once and it was so sticky sweet she could barely drink it. But hey, some people are into that, it was a personal feeling on the shakes.

If you are going to stick an American flag in the food you are making, at least make it like an American would make it.
Jasper Dunn
Nothing too special, standard American style burger and curly fries. Was asked if I wanted the burger well done or medium. Burger arrived was definitely not medium like I asked. Way too much tomato sauce on burger!
Baz Juan Pablo Sanchez
Not my go to burger bar but still not a bad offering. For me personally another example of offering "classic" American style burgers and hot dogs that aren't really classic or American at all.

The food was still good and pricing was pretty competitive
The Next Rush
I just LOVE a good old fashion 60s diner, good ole fashion comfort food reinvented with, flavoured batter, layers of toppings, grease, meat, dips and sauces! It gets messy - so that's how you know it's good. I love it here, it's relaxed, casual and is a real stand out on the King Street strip.

The Signature WHO'S UR DADDY is a mountainous BURGER of beef, pulled pork, slaw, swiss cheese, bacon which drips out a rich mayo and mustard sauce with every bite! It stands at about 15cm or so high and it's to die for seriously!

The CHILLI CHEESY FRIES with Con Carne & Bacon and ONION RINGS were the perfect accompaniment which I'd alternate with each bite of my burger, it added to the excitement of this meal.

If you've still got room for more, which I did, try the CHICKEN WINGS with the blue cheese dip (the colour a bit off putting but trust me, dip away cause its awesome). But if you're after a dish that makes a statement, the CHICKEN & BACON AFFLES is served on a massive chopping board with the meat harpooned with a Steak Knife for you to work it with your waffle.

So many choices here, so many flavors to experiment with and so many reasons to come back! Bye Bye Hungry Jacks - this is my new go to!!!
Princess Greedy Guts
Walking into Big Daddy's Burger Bar, you feel transported to a classic 1960s American Diner with Neon signs, booths & decor. Like any good diner, there are plenty to choose to eat including burgers, dawgs, wings, waffles and fries. There are also lots of toppings and sauces to pimp up your goods even more. The Big Daddy burger with egg, lettuce & tomato was a beast & had a great classic burger taste & feel to it. The Jnr Daddy is just as good. A side of crunchy fries are a must although I was having food envy looking at the loaded fries passing me. A good shake is testiment to a good diner & here the shakes are sweet, thick & oh so naughty but oh so nice. Fast & friendly service ensures you a fun time.

We have been here a few times to get our American Food fix!

The milkshakes here are incredibly good – especially the salted caramel – it has rocks of salt in it! Soooooo gooooood!

The burgers here are delicious & the chicken and waffles were a favourite!

Love this place, as we never leave hungry!
@burgersnbikinis
Follow my insta @burgersnbikinis

They weren't lying about the big part I'll tell you that much! Holy moly we had a feast for the ages at Big Daddy's! This cool venue has an American retro vibe with red leather booths and tin signs, and they serve up some serious heart attack inducing but damn mouthwatering food.

We were treated to an absolute feast when we went. Here's what we ordered:

Saymyname burger - a towering inferno of lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, relish, American cheese, Canadian bacon, onion rings, big D's mayo and smiley BBQ sauce. Just trying to take a bit is a serious challenge.

Home wrecker style hot dog - this ain't no little wiener. The dog comes packed with bacon, beef con carne, sour cream, melted cheese and big D's mayo. All hail those who understand sour cream makes everything in life better.

Onion rings

Mozzarella sticks - should have ordered more! They are so stretchy inside too!

Deep fried wings with a blue cheese sauce that is actually blue. Say whaaat!

Ribs - will change your life. Smothered in a smokey BBQ sauce and served on a bed of curly fries. This was the meal of the day!

Cheesy fries - omg get these! Curly fries absolutely doused in warm melted yellow cheese and as if it couldn't get any better there's also a huge dob of sour cream and bacon pieces ahhh.

Oh almost forgot we got Nutella shakes too. Hahaha I'm just off for my diabetes check now. Shout out to the staff also who are incredibly lovely and cleaned up all our sauce spillages with a smile.

Saz - burgersnbikinis xx

This place has the cutest decor!
Staff members are also super friendly and attentive.
Food was great - milkshakes were incredible!
Food also came out at a timely manner and was well priced for quite large portions.
So glad it's a late opener as it's a great place to come for a feed after a night out.
Would definitely recommend visiting if you haven't already.
Would definitely come back again.
Located on the main strip of King Street so it's not hard to miss.
Susan Caroline
Three of us arrived on Saturday evening and ordered two burgers and one serving of wings. They were not very busy. After 30 minutes of waiting I asked a staff member what was going on with our order and that we ordered 30 minutes ago. She went to check and came back to tell us our order would be ready in another 5-10 minutes. 10 minutes later we then had the wings brought out with no burgers. After another 5 minutes I told a second team member we have now been waiting 40 minutes for our food with no explanation or communication. She then said it was being made now and offered a drink on the house. We asked for a refund and when we stood up to leave the guy who put it through made no apology or eye contact at all. As a venue if you're going to have customers wait that long tell them beforehand. Terrible service.
Charlotte Mclaren
Went there , ordered our food and waited 40 mins. No warning when ordering that they were expecting longer wait times, it wasn't even that busy. Kept getting told the food was coming ...the food was coming.... no food came. We were offered a free drink on the house but demanded a refund. It took three staff members before a manager bothered to show his face and even then he wouldn't look us in the eye while saying sorry and giving our cash back.

Was excited to try this diner in Newtown but the place was very small, no air condition only fans which was fine and I guess I expected a better interior but it comes down to the food in the end ...

I ordered the "say my name" and my boyfriend ordered "whose your daddy" along with onion rings and curly fries though we wanted ribs but they said it was only available after 5pm :/
- The burger itself was okay, I expected more however the whose your daddy burger was more tasty in my opinion and my burger consisted of mushrooms, onion ring, bacon, beef patty and the lettuce and tomato which sounds like it'll be more scrumptious but it wasn't as good as it sounds
- The onion rings however were sooo good especially with the sauce they gave and the curly fries were okay too just tastes like normal curly fries

BUT if this was just for a quick meal for no special occasion then sure the food here is good for that bc you don't expect anything great and it's good for a feed

Big daddy's burger,oh such high expectations!
I love the interior decorations.so much to see and read and laugh at
I love the booths too
Too bad about the food

My pulled pork sub came in a hot dog roll and there was only a little bit of slaw in it. I was expecting more taste from the BBQ sauce but at least they aren't stingy with the meat

The missus had a Jnr daddy and didn't think much of it

Curly fries and onion rings were standard

My vanilla bean milkshake with malt, loved it! Simply added malt makes the milkshake that much better! This is the real reason I've given the above score, this pushes this place past average

Food did come out very fast also

Might be back to try another burger in future and if I'm back, definitely be back for more milkshakes

Nice place, good food, prices are ok. Friendly staff. .

Today — a Wednesday — I visited Big Daddy's Burger Bar in Newtown at approximately 6.30pm. I ordered the Who's Your Daddy?, some onion rings, and a couple of beers. I'm writing as I eat. The food is well-portioned, flavourful, reasonably priced, and damned scrumptious. I may order another burger. I was served by Laura, who, she tells me, normally works at the Oxford store. Her service was exemplary. Polite and well-mannered, cheerful and friendly — she deserves a raise!
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
Big Daddy's Burger Bar can be found on the bustling King Street in Newtown, surrounded by restaurants on both sides of the street. You can't miss it though, with a distinct red and white shopfront and it's American theme visible from the street. Once inside, we took a few moments to take in the posters covering the walls, neon signs and the great 90s tunes playing in the background. It had a great vibe and felt like we had actually stepped into an American burger bar.

OK, I will be honest, I am a huge burger fan and these burgers are big and tasty. Yeah, who's Ur Daddy? That's right Big Daddy is. I had a Big Daddy double with fried onions and a side of curly fries. I washed it all down with one of the most sensational milk shakes, I have tasted in the last few years.
Apart from the burger, which made my eyes pop, I loved the lurid 1950's style decor here and the amusing signs on the wall. If I lived in Sydney this place would be a once a week pilgrimage, but alas it is back to Brisvegas I must go. However when I am back in the big smoke, I will be hightailing it here for another artery choking, yummy dining experience.
The Weekend Foodie
We were kindly invited to big daddys burger, rocked up on a tuesday evening and the joint already had a few hungry customers. I love diner style restaurants, the interior decor is the best part, its like living the pulp fiction dream.

Our food arrived fairly quickly following the order. We got the cheesey sticks - the pull.. omg ...delicious also.

For sides, we got Chilli curly fries with bacon bits sour cream and a whole heap of sauce. It was a meal on its own, we both loved this dish, so bad for our waistline but oh so gooood. A must if you stop by.

As for burgers, we got saymyname and the vegetarian burger. The burgers werent as big as we expected, it was a very edible size. My friend enjoyed saymyname. I thought the veggie burger was ok, but not amazing.

We ordered a milkshake each, rock salted caramel and maltesers... holy crap, these shakes are legit, one of the best ive have so far. Id come back just for the shakes. Amazing!!!

Have been working in Newtown all week and found this American Diner styled burger restaurant yesterday - and can honestly say I was truly impressed.
This was a damn nice find burger place in Newtown. Very diner inspired and more 50s U.S. diner style it has lots of red vinyl and red and white stripes. All it needed was waitstaff in roller skates.
Next visit will see me eating chicken off waffles drowned in maple syrup, but this much healthier meal was the SAY MY NAME BURG.
Beef patty, lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, relish, American cheese, Canadian bacon, onion rings, house mayo and smokey BBQ sauce. It was a delicious meal and their curly fries rock. The meat could have come off the plate a couple of minutes earlier and the sauce seemed to be concentrated on one side without good spread but the flavours were awesome! The mushrooms were a great addition.
On the Fat Bastard Spoonometer of Burgerly Foodgasms this one's a 4.2/5. I would eat here again!

Love the cute American diner style and who can go wrong with curly fries. I called and placed a to go order because I knew in the thick of lunch time on king st, parking would be a challenge.

My order was made in the time approximated with my wait being only a few minutes. My loaded fries were tasty and salty but it to excess like loaded fries can be. Crunchy and cheesy with bacon bits. Tasty and filling

Big Daddy’s Burger Bar brings American Diner charm to the Newtown food scene, so we went down to try some of their famous burgers and shakes! For our burger selection, we opted for the Who’s Ur Daddy Burger, which was a 2 patty double topped with a mini American flag. The juicy bacon and fresh lettuce and tomato blended nicely with the creamy mayo, and the soft brioche bun topped off this flavour sensation. The accompanying curly fries were also crispy and well seasoned, with a great crunch to them.

Cool retro American burger diner serving up curly fries, awesome burgers & new to the menu is their pork ribs. The ribs has a sweet and sticky glaze, and the meat nice and smokey & the meat so tender it falls off the bone.

Picture American style diner, fully loaded thick shakes and mouthwatering burgers and you have all that is Big Daddy's in Newtown. Located on King street this is a burger bar with old school red and white booths, memorabilia on the wall and music to match the theme. Grab a booth and order at the counter when you are ready.

There is a good selection of beers including pale ales that pair nicely with the American style food. A word of warning though there is nothing remotely healthy on this menu. I went for the New York choc loaded shake and it was thick and loaded with delicious chocolate pieces - you may as well go all out while you are here. As far as burgers go we ordered The Who's your Daddy which is one of the best burgers around loaded with beef patty, pulled pork, coleslaw, American & Swiss cheese, Canadian bacon and American mustard. The burger had everything you could want without being overloaded with too many flavors. We also went for the chicken and waffles - delicious option and the waffles had bacon bits in the middle! The selection of sauces we went for included chipotle mayo, smokey BBQ and red hot which added a nice amount of spice. Order a side of curly fries and you are good to.

If you are in the mood for burgers with all the add ons then do not go past Big Daddy's Burger Bar

If you are looking for a vibrant and cool night out, then Big Daddy's is the place to go .The menu offers a wide variety. The vegetarian burger was superb, and the cheese sticks, onion rings and curly fries complimented the meal. Once you treating yourself, I highly recommend the thick shakes. All in all a fantastic experience with wonderful service.

Big Daddy's Burger Bar has an American diner set up, with booth seating and icons of Americana decorating the walls. On the menu are a bunch of American classics including Burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken wings, loaded fries, chicken and waffles and many more. You can order one of their house burgers or you can custom design a burger to your liking.
We went with the 'say my name' and the big daddy with some add ons. The say my name was very tasty and that is why it holds a spot on the menu. We loaded the big daddy, which was already double beef and double cheese with onion rings, fried crumbed cheese sticks and pickles a beast of a burger. We also ordered the crazy loaded chilli con carne cheese fries and fried chicken wings with a side of chipotle mayo. Choose from the menu, or have some fun and create a monster. A great place to grab a burger and some American favourites.

I went there two times and both times were a disappointment. Big Daddy's needs to invest in higher quality ingredients because you can really taste the difference between here and a great burger place elsewhere. The patty is overly greasy and of poor quality, leaking some sort of red grease. There was a weird add on system for things you would think come with the burger, for example, tomatoes and lettuce etc. Their sides were pretty good though, shakes were really nice and curly fries were good (if you get cheesy curly fries, there's kind of low quality bacon bits and cheese in a can kind of stuff going on there, it's fine though)

Their burgers produced a monotonous bite and they need to invest in higher quality meat. The interior and the vibe here is absolutely fine though, really cool kind of environment and the staff were nice enough. On my second visit there, I wanted to see if my first had just been unlucky. I ordered the chicken and waffles and the chicken had a tiny hint of spice and was overcooked but edible.

The biggest issues I have had to date with this establishment is their waffles. They are nothing short of horrible and inedible. Their waffles are crumbly and really plastic tasting. They are "bacon filled" but the bacon is seriously scarce. Honestly, this place could do so much better. The vibes were good and now they only need to work on getting good quality ingredients. Up your game, Big daddy's.
Mr Eats
This looks like a fun diner and was hoping for some classic American diner food. Unfortunately it wasn't the best, the sub wasn't great... there wasn't much flavour going on and the burger was fairly standard but good enough not to be dissatisfied. Ordering service was quick but it took a very long time for our meals to arrive. Many of the other patrons were hanging out waiting for their food too. With so many other options on King St it will be a while till I'm back.
Farrah
Not the best burgers. The ordering system is a bit weird because you have to add on condiments and pay extra for them. I ordered the chicken wings with blue cheese sauce as well. The sauce was surprisingly a blue bubblegum colour which kind of put me off. Won't be going there again.

For some strange reason, burgers have been a main part of my diet for about two months or so now. Lunch or dinner, I would focus my attention on getting a burger. It didn’t matter what kind of burger or where I got it from, as long as it was a burger, I was happy. This particular time we went to Newtown for a couple of drinks at Kuleto’s then we walked over to Big Daddy’s Burger Bar later for dinner.

This is one of the newest burger eateries in Newtown that I was super excited to try when they first opened their doors. Sadly, it seems that they’re having a hard time to keep customers engaged, as they don’t seem to be as busy as other local joints. Expect to find American everything: from furniture to menu items, including Mexican soft drinks (kidding).
Tina Matties
God i love burgers!!! This place has great burgers!! Juicy, fresh, full of flavor and very filling. The sauce on the burger was absolutely amazing, similar to bigmac sauce but way better!! The lady at the counter was very helpful and friendly and the food didn't take too long to arrive. The cheese sticks were my fave i would definitely go back to try some other stuff

Good eat, had gone when it first opened.
Great variety of food and cheesy goodness!

I have been on burger diets lately! Big daddy's burger made it into my list of burger places to go too!! Their pulled pork burger is a winner and and their cheese curly fries are da bomb!!!!! Definitely will visit again

American style diner in Newtown offering a pretty cool burger and hot dog menu. The best thing about the burger combo isn't actually the burger, it's the curly fries. They're crunched to perfection.

Burger could do with a lot more meat, a lot less sauce and a much fresher bun.
Paul Vourloumis
Very decent burgers but can understand how the taste can be underwhelming but overall I enjoyed the who's your daddy burger, and the saymyname was much more tastier than mine. I think this is a good place to eat.
Jennifer McLean
It really just wasn't very good. The meat had no flavour and was overall very underwhelming. Much better burgers available elsewhere in Newtown.
MsBrulee
All burgers at Big Daddy’s come with a side of curly fries, my Big Daddy double/double is a towering stack of juicy beef mince and melting cheese. Anyone can have extras in their burgers, I choose to add some jalapenos for a little heat and it’s perfect. Cheese sticks $5 for 5 sticks are addictive mozzarella sticks crumbed and deep fried – although, at $1 a pop, I couldn’t help but raise my eyebrows at how much it will cost and how little sticks you receive in return.
Issac_eatsalot
Another of the eats @bigdaddysburgerbar included this 'Saymyname' burger: lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, relish, american cheese, Canadian bacon, onion rings, Big D's mayo and Smokey Bar-b-q suce 🍔🍔🍔 Crunchy rings. Crispy bacon. Smokey sauce and the Big D 🍆😂 what else could you want 👏
Up And Adam!
I have eaten here four times and have not been disappointed yet. I am a big fan of the Mexican burger and the curly fries. This place also does great milkshakes!
Service here was friendly and they are pretty quick to bring out your food after you order.
Zejun Zhao
Their staff just don't know how to serve customers. Bad customer service! Wait there for at least 5 mins to place order and the staff just come to serve the customers behind us. Excuse me? Did you ever want to ask who is next?

Big Daddys Burger Bar is the latest addition to the Sydney burger scene. And a welcome addition at that! Located in the heart of Newtown, Big Daddys Burger Bar has you set for that perfect lunch time carb coma or that late night, post drinks burger fix. Big Daddys Burger Bar has that retro 1960's American diner feel, complete with red vinyl boothes and the odd assortment of posters adorning the walls.
KIMMIE
Went here with my best friend and we both LOVE this place. Contrary to everyones review of the Say My Name burger, we actually found it absolutely amazing because of the of mushrooms, mayo and delicious smokey bar-b-q sauce! The staff are also very nice and friendly, and the American diner theme is quite cool. I would definitely come back and recommend this place to everyone!

The patties don't give much flavour.
I don't like the hard bread cover either.
The beef slice in sub tastes dry and not so fresh.
Like the American style sofa though.
Facebook User
Not an inviting service especially the person on reception. We ordered philly cheese sub and the mexican. I think the bread should be other way round. Mexican had very soft bread and could not hold strong. It fell apart. I am not amazing in handling burgers but this one was tok fragile. Taste wise okish. Charged extra for changing side in the meal without even mentioning.

We chanced upon Big Daddy's Burger Bar not expecting much but definitely wowed by the colourful lights and clearly American diner-influenced interiors of this burger joint (and Five Guys?). What was next striking was the "dawgs" and the other soul-food-esque offerings in addition to their burgers.

As far as we could say, our burgers—a Say My Name and a Who's Ur Daddy—were fairly good, though the promise of beef patties that were pink on the inside were not realized; nevertheless, we can't complain as this is probably better cooked, with microorganisms cooked to death this way.

Other things that we ordered promised to be good too. The chicken wings were delicious but the blue cheese dip was a strange, unnecessary add-on that overpowered the sauce that so lovingly enveloped the chicken wings. As for the chilli cheese fries, they were excellent as the bacon was clearly bacon and not dried bacon bits. However, as with most of the food served here, it was a bit on the salty side and very decadent, with a fair deal of grease.

Service and ambience were good.

We would recommend giving this American diner-style burger joint a try, so that you can decide for yourself. As for us, we liked this enough that we may very well visit again.

I had the "SAYMYNAME" burger and unfortunately it was one of the most average burgers I've had in a long time (and I eat a lot of burgers). Firstly we waited around half an hour on Friday night and I only counted about 2-3 other groups in the restaurant at the time.

On arrival the burger was on the average to small size.

The first thing that caught my attention was the guacamole (which I added) which was a bright green like the guacamole dip you buy from the supermarket. On first bite it tasted exactly like those guacamole dips.

The burger itself was bland with no real standout element. The mushrooms seemed steamed and actually took away from the flavourless burger so I pulled them off. I literally can't remember a highlight.

However, the fried chicken and waffle with maple syrup was quite good. The chicken is massive, an actual quarter, however it's served bones-in. I've only had chicken and waffles once before at Jazz City BBQ (served boneless) so I'm not sure what the usual standard is bones in/out however I do prefer boneless so you can just cut straight into the chicken and not have to worry about pulling out bones. Also the waffle could've been fluffier/bigger or maybe the meal could be served with two considering how big the chicken was.

The chicken wings we had on the side were decent, although served with a strangely bright blue cheese sauce which I couldn't bring myself to touch.

All in all a little disappointed in my Big Daddy's experience. I'm definitely prepared to wait for a good meal but when you have to wait and its average at best it amplifies the disappointment.

After a few drinks at the Newtown hotel we where feeling a bit peckish, most restaurants where closed at this point so when we walked past this burger joint we decided to try it out. Disappointed we where... The "saymyname" burger was so bland.. The patty promised to be "pink on the inside" as per there menu board was definitely over cooked and lacked any flavour.. $12 for a burger of this caliber is not worth it

Why are there so many haters? Anything below a perfect score for this unsurpassed true traditional American burger bar is from a disgruntled proprietor of another burger joint in Newtown! They should be worried to be honest. Be it a traditional burger, pulled pork, brisket variety, you will go home satisfied. The owner personally asked for my feedback, and was extremely hospitable.Try the Whos Your Daddy for the best of both worlds (you will see what I mean!)Thankyou Robbie and Crew

Best burgers in Newtown. For some reason my expectations were not too high when going in. Maybe because Newtown has set the bar quite high, when it comes to food and also burgers. Compared to other good burger places in the area (like Mary's or Jack's with very simple menus) the available variety at Big Daddy's can be a bit overwhelming to the simple meat eater. I was first confused by the build your own burger options (that seemed a bit pricey) not realizing the menu included also pre-designed burgers. Luckily got some recommendations from the owner. So far have tasted the Big Daddy's burger and the Beef Brisket burger. Both were solid burgers but a special tip of my hat to the smoked brisket, which was absolutely delicious and had just the right amount of smokiness. Curly fries were crispity crisp and girlfriend told that the vegetarian burger was the best vegetarian burger she has had. Highly recommend to try Big Daddy's out.

I know this place is not geared towards vegetarians but the veggie burger is terrrrible :( guys vegetarians don't come to a place like this for a literal pile of vegetables on a bun (that were inexplicably oily), we like cheat food too! If you'd replace the veggie mix with mozzarella sticks I'll be back hehe ;)
Sides were AMAZING, my mate had the beef brisket burgie and said it was one of the best he's had.. Vegetarians, if you get dragged here in a group like I did stick with the sides!!
Sweetandyummie
Great Menu that has all the classic American diner items and more! The atmosphere is pumping with music playing and fresh ambience. I highly recommend the Fried chicken on a bacon waffle with maple syrup and the MAC DADDY with triple patties ... yay juicy and delicious.
Don't Believe The Hype
I like Maccas, this was similar but somehow worse and more expensive. IF i want a greasy Macca's style burger, I will just go to Maccas.

The curly fries were great, so maybe just get those as a snack but forget the burger
DroolWorthyWorld
Big Daddy knows how to make a burger you can't refuse. The Say My Name is delicious as is the pulled pork sub with its 15 hours of smokey TLC. Really impressed by the myriad ways that have incorporated bacon into their dishes even the waffles are infused with bacon bits! Ask for the rock salt and caramel milkshake - not on the menu but it exists and you must try it!

Speaking as an American: The philly... eh. But do what I do: make a meal out of cheese sticks, jalapeno poppers, and any of the other sides. Delicious.

Really good heart Amercian food. Cool set up. First time having fried chicken and waffles.

Onion rings are amazing. Beef burgers with ranch too.
The Burger Hand
New burger joint, new review!

Big Daddy's Burger bar is Americana to the max with all the trinkets and signs hanging around as their decor. The concept is pretty simple yet the menu is quite extensive. Based on the menu and how the food looks, it's kind of a mix of Five Guy's Burger & Fries, Rally's/Checkers, and Hardees/Carl's Jr back in the US.

I grabbed a Big Daddy Burger (double) which only comes with cheese and special sauce. Other toppings are extra and DIY, kind of like Five Guy's except they charge you 60cents per extra here which is kind of rich, and bigger toppings are $2, like bacon and onion rings. You can combo up for $5 for curly fries and a canned drink.

Two beef patties, lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled red onions, special sauce, and onion rings

The burger is on the smallish side and the milk bun is one I didn't think too much about since it doesn't match the photo they use, but it held everything together well and complemented the burger. The beef really didn't look like much either but after taking a bite, I found it was pretty good and really reminded me of Rally's/Checkers. The beef was smashed and surprisingly juicy for being done medium and the sauce and toppings all worked, especially the pickles and grilled red onions. Serious nostalgia for me with this burger. Their special sauce is kind of a subtle thousand island sauce which was just fine. I do really like how you can customise the burger, but I hate the nickel and diming.

Will be back to try different combinations.

Beef: 4.1

Bun: 3.8

Toppings: 4.2

Overall: 4.03/5

Places like dump survive on what i call the "everyone tries it once" phenomenon.
you go in, give them $20, feel ripped off, swear never to return...
except - enough people do it, they stay open for years... What a shame.
locals in newtown are already wishing it weren't taking up space. Since lock out laws have caused droves of drunk idiots to newtown on the weekend, places Like big daddy are a perfect place to eat crap pretending to be food. let's start with the philly cheese steak. nothing about it was worthy of praise. particularly waiting 20 mins for it. the place is laughable and i apologise to the owner, but this place is better suited in kings cross, instead of a street known for good food.

Fantastic food best place in town !!! Everyone in newtown needs to come and try the burgers are amazing 🍔🍔🍔🍔 staff are friendly and helpful !

Incredible Burgers with Incredible Decor. My friends and I went to BDBB in newtown and we love the new booths.
Great Service, affordable prices and a delicious menu. My friends and I loved the great menu items. Who's your Daddy burger so juicy and flavoursm. The fried chicken was the bomb, the spices are delicious!! Onion rings were so crispy and amazing. To top it off the American style creamy milkshakes were sooo good.
Big daddy Newtown we will definately be back soon.

This is definitely the tastiest burgers in town , if not australia , i love my food and very picky with what i eat , i go there 3 to 4 times a week burgers and subs are so addictive , it gets real busy at times , but worth the wait and the food , so ppl give big daddy's burgers a try , definitely worth it .

Love a great burger and this spot has that plus great teasers! Went for the BIG DADDY added lettuce tomato onion and onion rings (WOW) and cheesy fries on the side. I grabbed the "ASS BURNER" sauce on the side and it was fire!! I like my chillis but this was on another level, burns you but keeps you asking for more.
This place has a lot of personality and the american signs are great.
SG SG
What an awesome place to eat. The burgers were cooked to order and absolutely delicious. I love the atmosphere of the place with nice booths and great american decor. The menu is simple the way I like it, just a good burger with the works. Know how to order or get a signature burger, which has something for everyone. I had the WHOS YOUR DADDY burger with some wings on the side with the delicious blue cheese dip and I loved it.
Max Macheveli
This place has the best American burgers hands down and for cheaper than all the other burger joints. I had the whos ur daddy burger it was unbelievable. Definitely coming back and I would everyone to try it out. Oh yeah don't try their hot sauce...its bloody hot..be warned. .
Was really looking forward to tasting the food here. We arrived extremely hungry, 2 burgers, onion rings and jalapeño poppers later.....
Extremely disappointed, burger not bad but nothing special either.
Jalapeño poppers, onion rings and sauces horrible!
Will not be coming back.....
Very over priced for the quality of the food!

Newly opened burger shop across the road from Moo Burger which was surprising,.The burgers looked average but made up for it with the taste, but killed the vibe of the slow service. We also got chilli fires and wings to share that tasted as they should nothing special just a good burger place will come back to give it another go.

It was a disappointing trip to Big Daddy's. We called in before a movie at Dendy for a fast food fix. It turns out that the promise of 10 minutes for the pulled beef sub was inaccurate. We asked where our meal was at the 15-minute mark. At 20 minutes I left, hungry, to collect our ticket from Dendy and at 25 minutes one of the servers admitted the sub would take a further 10 minutes. My husband cancelled the order and asked for his money back. We won't both trying it again.
