Might be my new favourite gelato parlour Absolutely delicious Ever changing flavours and made fresh each day, although I was slightly disappointed not to see lemon on the menu. I guess I’ll have to keep coming back until it arrives. Sacrifices, sacrifices. All very reasonably priced to top things off.

Very yummy gelato! Melts slightly quickly, but the flavours were good. Very clean and neat place. Will definitely be back if we happen to be around. The milk flavour was a but ordinary but the banana flavour was strong and the boyfriend loved it.

Super creamy ice cream and flavours are really rich. Top flavour by a mile is the pear and ginger as it’s light compared to the heavier sweeter flavours like the rich chocolate and salted caramel 🍦🍐

This must be close to the best gelato in Sydney. Super smooth and creamy. All the flavours were distinct and delicious but not overly sweet or overpowering. Tried the ricotta with lemon zest, peanut butter and nectarine. Peanut butter was a standout with a bit of smokiness to it. Highly recommend you give it a try.

Delicious. I'd go back to try more flavours. The chocolate is like Nutella only better. I tried the banana and rockmelon. They use real fruit and create their ice cream on premise. They offer takeaway tubs as well.

Soft, smooth and creamy. The flavours aren't too heavy nor dense - just right. Only downside is the gelato can sometimes melt too quickly on a warmer day so you'll try to eat it quicker and before you know it, you're wanting seconds. 🍦

Really nice gelato and decent prices! The store itself is quite small, not really anywhere to sit - but it’s not really necessary anyway! The gelato here is nice and smooth and there are a good range of flavours available too. Service was decent and efficient. I also liked how there were a lot of options that were non-dairy, including both fruity and non-fruity flavours. You can also have two flavours as one scoop, for $6!! I had the macadamia flavour. It wasn’t overly sweet and it had real macadamia chunks in it! I also got to taste the pistachio, the gianduja (like Nutella), and the salted caramel. The gianduja was pretty rich, but definitely nice if you like Nutella. The salted caramel flavour was also really good! The pistachio flavour was a bit strong in my opinion - definitely wouldn’t be able to have a whole scoop of it, but it wasn’t bad. Would definitely come back if I’m in the area :)

Not my cup of tea when it comes to ice-cream. The nectarine and green tea one was nice, but the nectarine flavour was a tad too fruity for my liking. It was a nice experience nevertheless with the customer service and all!

Best gelato I’ve had in Syd so far! I had the Japanese green tea and passion fruit flavour. Both flavours were well balanced. One wasn’t overly sweet and the other wasn’t overly sour. Not overly creamy and rich. It was smooth and very refreshing. It’s a shame they only do 6 flavours at a time but I believe with expansion they’ll be able to make more flavours

Got the pistachio flavour here and really enjoyed it. Strong pistachio flavour and the texture was so smooth and amazing although it did get a bit sweet towards the end

Tried their Mandarin and Truffle flavour. Their gelato is not as thick, creamy yet flavourful. Not as dense as other gelato more smooth in texture. Amazing place to try.

I had heard very good things about Mapo and I couldn’t wait to try. I was not disappointed. It’s definitely the best gelato I have eaten outside of Italy. The gelati are made with natural raw ingredients on a daily basis using just one machine that both pasteurises and churns the gelato. Their gelato is so creamy and my favourite flavour was definitely the pistachio. I will be returning time and time again! #mapo

This is a really nice gelato shop in Newtown. The texture is really smooth and the flavours are pretty good. So far, I like hojicha (roasted green tea), genmaicha (green tea and brown rice) and pistachio best. The Pepe Saya butter and ea salt caramel one was a bit too sweet for me. Happy to come back and try their other flavours!!

I came here on a sunny afternoon, looking for something to cool myself down with. I ordered 1 scoop with pistachio and almond. I love nut flavoured gelato. My friends have been telling me to visit Mapo because of the smooth consistency of the gelato. They were not wrong! My favourite flavour was the pistachio because it was very clearly pistachio. The almond on the other hand, was disappointing because it was too watery. <br/><br/>I think it's great to have 1 scoop 2 flavours because it means you can try more flavours. I love how they do seasonal flavours with high percentages of real fruit. I will be back to try different flavours!

First time trying vegan ice cream - hojicha was lovely, strong flavour. Hazelnut was tasty too. Used to ice cream with heavier texture but this was nice for a change. Service was friendly.

My current favourite gelato place in Sydney. Cannot go past the Pepe Saya salted caramel! Also notable mentions for the Bolivian chocolate and hazelnut flavours. So so creamy and flavours aren't too rich. Two scoops  ($7) for me every time. Can't wait to go back.

The flavours can change daily and you won’t get many complex ones (not even tiramisu which was almost a turn off for me!) but the ice cream is amazing. Try the fior di latte for a rich creamy vanilla-without-the-vanilla or the amazingly rich and creamy chocolate one.

Really delicious and healthy gelato. There's many plant base options and all materials like the cups and spoons are biodegradable.<br/><br/>I got pistachio which is vegan and delicious. I tried my friend's cacoa and Grapefruit and orange. The chocolate is very dark and delicious. The fruit one was a bit bitter like fresh grapefruit. Both were vegan

We simply stumbled across Mapo after eating out on night. Very unusual flavour combinations presented to customers, but there is surely something for everyone, otherwise be daring. The server was very friendly and welcomed the customers with a lovely smile. Being the only person working a queue stared to form quickly, but she got those cups out like a true professional! The shop is very clean and you can see the manufacturing area... aiming to show that it is made on premises? Regardless, a very good find and one that is worth returning to.

One of the creamiest gelatos I’ve had in Sydney and it’s hard to believe that some of them are vegan despite the creaminess. Their pistachio and hazelnut flavours are so flavourful - all time faves. Portions are quite inconsistent though. There has been a few times recently where a triple scoop servings was so little, it was basically equivalent to the size of a double scoop - not impressed. Would’ve loved to give a higher rating but inconsistency in this area is quite unfair for consumers.

Words cannot describe how delicious and fresh the gelato at Mapo is. Blew every ice cream and gelato joint out of its league within a 50km radius. The taste and texture is nothing I’ve ever tried before and I have not had a bad flavor there once. Mapo is a must try but word of warning, you will be hooked.

Such amazing vegan and non -vegan flavours of gelato . You have to try it people! They use premium quality fruit and ingredients . I had the matcha and a plum flavoured gelato . My partner had the pistachio and a dark cacao one - both these were vegan only the match had dairy . Anyway I am not vegan but the flavours are so so very good . Right balance of fruit and sugar and everything else . Local made from scratch , true to their craft , artisanal gelato outlet . See this is why I ❤️ Newtown and so glad and grateful that we live so close by . We will be back soon to try out all the remaining flavours :)

Who doesn't know Newtown? The bohemian-like suburb with great stores along the main road. From indie clothing labels, indie bookshops, thrift stores and lots of murals. Here is also where the Mapo Gelato located, few minutes walk from the station. Why it called Mapo? It turned out the name of this Italian Gelato is an abbreviation from owner's favorite fruits in Italian which are Mandarino and Pompelmo, or in English is Mandarin and Grapefruit.
