Review The Buzz Eatery & Bar - Newtown

Great cozy establishment. The service we had was attentive and warm. The cocktails were nice although I didn't particularly like the cucumber one. But I expected that. The food was really tasty but on the small size. For me the brussel sprouts and the black rice were standouts. A little disappointed in the potatoes. It said chimichurri... but not really. There's things to be said about small plant based portions. And that thing is one less star.

Service was great but the food was below average. Menu had a lot of nice sounding vegan options too but unfortunately I didn't enjoy my garden burger. It was bland, dry and the only tasty thing that made it edible was the vegan beetroot labneh. Friends ordered the Thai tofu salad, chicken burger, and striploin steak and would not order it again. Not worth the price. Their expresso martini however was delicious!

A very cool vegan bar and restaurant. Very nice staff who are down to earth and give great service. The cocktails are delicious and perfect balance. The food is really nice too, I really liked their butternut squash and potatoes. Well spaced out bars and has a warehouse vibe to it. A perfect place to catch up with people. I will be back! Their before 6pm menu is great value and I think I preferred this than the later menu.

Definitely like this place. Great service, and awesome atmosphere both inside and outside. You can hop onto the bar if you want a beer, or just sit outside under the heater if you want some peace and quiet over a long black. The team got my order wrong but fixed it within, literally, 60 seconds. Very impressive.

I went to Gurdys for a happy hour cocktails with friends and decided to have dinner while we were there. So glad we did and I couldn't help but take some photos as the food taste as good as it looks. For entree we had the Zucchini Flowers with the smoked goats cheese but you can get it with Sun dried tomato and mushroom instead if you like. The Sake cured smoked Salmon was amazing as was the pan fried Scallops. For mains we had BBQ braised Octopus with a chili salsa, Angus Hanger Steak perfectly cooked and the Lamb cutlets with roasted pumpkin. We have been to Gurdys before because the drinks, staff and atmosphere are great but never eaten there. This is a new menu apparently so we will definitely be back to try the other dishes soon.

Popped in here for some late afternoon drinks and loved the cool relaxed vibes and great cocktail list. I can highly recommend The Big Dill!

Very good, but there’s some things missing compared to 5 star hotel Cocktail bars, so I can’t rate a 5,

This place has really become the place to go. If you haven’t been here yet, change that now! The service is incredible and has a fully vegan menu now — things you’d expect from a fine dining establishment but at a reasonable price and in a relaxed and friendly environment. The cocktail and drinks list is absolutely impeccable with something for everyone’s taste. The bar manager is immensely passionate about her craft and it shows. I can’t recommend this place highly enough!

So I rock up to use my Groupon I purchased, that is valid until next month, however, they are closed for renos. Shame I travelled 3 hours.. Not impressed at all.

We had a quick dinner before our painting class, which also held at this cafe. The lamb gnocchi and the beef dish (can't remember the name of the dish) were tasty, not overly salty like lot's of Italian food places. Good dishes for winter cold night. However, I found the cocktails were a let down, unfortunately didn't agree to my personal taste.
The dessert, dark chocolate slide with macadamia nuts was great, the chocolate flavour was so rich. 😋
The customer service was really good, the staff were very attentive and polite.

Good dinner. Worth the money. Especially with groupon. Friendly staff! Good vibes! Good atmosphere. Also good for families if your looking for a quiet cafe to relax in!

The most horrible experience!!! Went there after dinner to check on desert. Not much there. We decided to leave. The owner, a short self-identified Turk, followed us out and behaved aggressively. He said we could NOT walk away from his shop without buying any food. As we walked along the street, he was calling out to get his friends to harass us. Is this Newtown????!!!

Convenient location, affordable prices and delicious food. Ordered the beef burger with chips. The winner was the chips-it has the perfect crunch and sprinkled with dried herbs/salt.

I walked here to try the breakfast options. Not sure how to describe the interior but it appeared to be unconventional. There were bright blue lights around the bar and counter area but also a warm and more traditional aspect to the café with wood and traditional old-fashioned lights being used in parts.

I had the omelette which was presented in a perfectly round style. I was able to choose some healthy ingredients including spinach which was not mixed within but placed on the top. The other side of the omelette was moist so there was some good balance. The bread was a good complement.

Overall I found the service to be perhaps a little distant but overall no major issues.

Try the Burger. Coffee is good, staff are great and they have easily the best burger in Newtown.

Just awful. Possibly the worst cafe we have ever been into in the newtown area and we have been to most. The owner sat in the doorway the whole time we ate leering at women as they walked by and yelling at his staff to make coffee or tend tables while he just sat there looking like he really needed a shower and change of clothes. Disgusting behaviour and very ordinary food, weak coffee. We will never go back.

I’ve walked past this place a thousand times (literally), but never really looked inside or considered going to it because i’m a fan of my “usual” places on King St. Today though, all my fav places were packed full with queues waiting, so we decided to give it a shot. I’m glad we did. No pics of inside, I got death stares (from customers) when I pulled camera out, so this is the best I could do. The exterior may look messy and cramped, but once you go in it’s actually quite large, and cosy in an old-fashioned way. It was very very busy, with waiters/waitresses running around like headless chooks, which is usually a good sign. They had some interesting stuff on the menu too, including winter-themed “hot cocktails” and a variety of specials, like sweet potato and ginger soup. I like places that do stuff other than the usual bacon/eggs. Being me though, I got bacon and eggs ;) I always have to get the Big Breakfast the first time I visit a place, so I have a benchmark. Specifically, the B

If anything, I would go to Buzzzbar for their desserts! They offer a page long menu of cakes, gelato and other pastries including flourless chocolate cake, chocolate truffle torte, a blueberry flan and the baked cheesecake and black and white mousse cake that we ordered (among other things). We both received very generous servings that were well priced at $8.50. The cheesecake was just like a cheesecake should be- rich, sweet and yet not too creamy (I have had some bad cheesecakes in my time). The different layers of mousse in my friend's cake were divine, and again, very rich. We couldn't decide which dessert we preferred, with each having very distinctive flavours. By the time we left, there were quite of lot of people who seemed to have this same idea- some scrumptious after dinner desserts.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Buzzzbar Cafe. It’s such a cosy place & the staff are so lovely.

Gail. Really liked the good service, and the superb quality of the food. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves food. Great lounge at the front for catching up with friends, fabulous courtyard out back.
Fantastic cheese cake and chocolate muffins
Top marks from me

Not happy Bazz Bar. A friend and I were there this morning and we're not going back. The service was appalling. One of the waitstaff had poor communication skills, cutting us and other waitstaff off mid-sentence and making no attempt to hear what people were trying to say.

My friend who'd owned a cafe, was gobsmacked by the poor customer service, the way some of the staff were treated and how little attention customers got in a surprisingly empty cafe.

We had a dog with us that we had to take from the back section (we wanted to avoid the smokers) to the front section, and we were asked to carry rather than walk him through the cafe. I've been to other cafes that allow you to quickly walk your dog through an indoor area to get to the outdoor area and they're so gracious about it. But this has to be a new low in the treatment of animals in Sydney.

It's a shame we're not going back because the food was great, and some of the waitstaff were just lovely.

Greasy glasses and nasty tapas. I had some tapas here with some friends last night. We ordered a few tapas plates and the mezze platter. It was without a doubt my worst dining experience in Sydney. The tapas was bland, oily and tasted slightly off. I ordered a beer and the glass was slick with grease. There was also mold on the complimentary water bottle. Definitely somewhere to avoid.

It was strong recommended from my friends, I been there today had breakfast, it was really worth to go!!! Nice food, very friendly service and comfortable place. I like the cute backyard and delicious cakes. it's the fantastic cafe. I like it.

The food was okay. The chicken salad was very over dressed and oily. The coffee and cocktails were nice but. The venue itself is filthy.

After my housemate excitedly confessed to me that Buzzzbar Cafe was her “place to go” in Newtown, I was somewhat embarrassed when I realised I had not checked it out since moving to Sydney’s inner west.

When I walked through the front door just before 9:00am on July 21, I noticed that, with the exception of a few walkers waiting for takeaway caffeine hits and a solitary hipster sipping tea, I had the place to myself. Given that King Street generally looks like something out of a post-apocalyptic movie before mid-morning on a Sunday, the lack of customers was hardly surprising.

In what might be a reflection of the lack of early risers in Newtown, Buzzzbar Cafe offers its extensive breakfast menu until 3:00pm. While numerous dishes screamed at me from the laminated page, I opted for sautéed wild mushrooms with truffled scrambled eggs and Sonoma sourdough ($15), with the latter baked just down the road at Alexandria. I added a side of bacon ($3) and found the generous serving delicious, albeit a little on the greasy side. My double-shot latte ($4) was presented simply and tasted great, a key point many Sydney cafes seem to miss in the quest for award-winning artwork on coffee canvases.

The service was welcoming and prompt, and my food appeared in under seven minutes, a time I’d be curious to see whether could be replicated during peak times.

My bill came in at $22 and while the cafe offers an EFTPOS facility with a $10 minimum transaction, the experience coincided with one of the rare times I actually had cash in my wallet.

If you’re in Newtown, you could do much worse than Buzzzbar Cafe. It’s definitely worth a visit.

Good value tapas and drinks after work. Love this place!. We order a couple of tapas dishes each, including the brushetta, and we don't need dinner. It's really satisfying and yummy when you feel like snacking but not a whole meal. With a couple of wines and beers, it's a really easygoing alternative to going to a restaurant. They do proper meals as well, but I'm hooked on their tapas variety.

This is the best little place to hang out and wind down after work, especially out in the back garden area. It's a bit run down, like sitting out the back of a friend's old house, but that adds to the charm and makes it ever more relaxing.

Friendly and kind staff are happy to talk you through the menu and recommend the best tapas and wines.

Really enjoyed the place, had eggs Benedict, and friends chicken and pesto sandwich and the chicken and cranberry and said they really enjoyed it. Wouldn't mind coming back to try more

New years day disappointment. I went to Buzzzbar on New Years Day with some friends after finding the place we were planning on going to was closed. Given it was a public holiday and they were busy, we gave them the benefit of the doubt with the slow service. However, our drinks took about half an hour to arrive and our food took nearly 2 hours. This would have been frustrating at the best of times, but the unhelpful wait staff made it so much worse. The best approach is to be upfront and apologise for the wait and give an estimate of how long it might be. The waitress instead avoided us, clearly saw we were trying to get her attention and walked away and when we finally did get her to come over, was unapologetic and rude. When the food eventually arrived, it was pretty poor, and many of the things we had ordered had been omitted or substituted without letting us know. I know busy days are hard for cafes, but if you don't have the staffing or food supplies to cope, it's best not to open. I won't be going back.

Salt overload. Think this place might have changed management, the waitress was nice enough but the food was disgusting! We had breakfast and both meals had an overbearing taste of salt that neither of us could eat more than a few mouthfuls, and they had the cheek to make us pay! Very disappointed, and definitely will not going back....

Love the place. I have lived at newtown for 5 mths. the buzzz and its staff and managment have been a wonder. The food is oustanding and the coffee good (always important). The cakes are to die for and the feel of buzzz at night entirely different to the day, always consistent.

Fantastic tapas... Especially the potato and onion tortilla. Good relaxed setting, kid friendly. Cheap pricing, $80 for two adults and one child (plus drinks for the grown ups :)
Madam Wu
Average coffee. I only had coffee here and it was sadly not very good - weak, lacked aroma and crema. Also it was $4 for a soy one! Happy to pay $4 if it's good but otherwise... Nice atmosphere and relaxed vibe for hanging around though and a good location.

What Happened To This Place?. Used to frequent Buzzzbar all the time for yummy sandwiches for dinner. Last time I went, the service was horrendous, the dinner menu sucked and the food we did have was lacking flavor and not worth the money we paid. would not go back again.

Horrible dinner menu. Bland food. Waited 30min for cocktail. Will never return!

Amazing Cake. The cakes are so good they have a rulebook in terms of how they serve them! Coffee is great too. Order the mezze plate to share and some wine, you won't be disappointed.

Great cakes but getting too pricey!. The cakes are great here. Really great, actually. Home made but fancier than you'd make at home. Prices are getting too high though.

Poor service, average food. Came here in the middle of the week with five others. The restaurant was very quiet however the wait staff were busy eating ice cream and ignored the customers. Plates were left on our table and we had to ask to see the dessert/coffee menu. Given the choice in Newtown I'm not sure why anyone would come here

Decline. This used to be my favourite cafe in newtown, and I still pop in for the occasional coffee.
But lord the prices have gone up, its just not worth it.
A pot of tea is $4.50 which I find ridiculous and find myself going elsewhere for a cheaper and equally delicious cuppa.

Generally unhappy.

Best meal that I have had for a long time. I had the minute steak with a salad, fantastic.

Great spot. Excellent coffee and a really good, friendly staff, combined with a varied and imaginative menu make this my favourite late morning breakfast spot in Newtown. You can substitute items to avoid allergies or preferences, the constantly refreshed art gallery and the board games and couches make it a good place to hang out as well.

Very good. This place is great! a little warm in the inside seating area but overall it's ok. the food is spactacular though. i'd highly recommend it

Good coffee and some ridiculously good inhouse cakes and sweets (the mousse!). The inside seating is mixed lounge/tables with soothing decor and lighting. Open very late.
