Review Al Habibi - Newtown

John Smith
Had a party here last month with 30 people - They have a large room in the back. We have often been to friends gatherings here and they have always been great - Our party was no exception. The food is Lebanese style and we ordered a variety of set menus. The food was excellent as usual and the staff very friendly and helpful. The price is good value. Would definitely recommend - especially for gatherings.

Excellent take away falafel. Big servings and reasonably priced. Their semolina honey cake and Turkish Delight are delicious. If you want to sit down they have a room out the back too with a larger dine-in menu. A casual place with great food and the hostess/owner is one of the most wonderful people you'll ever meet!

Excellent Lebanese, and very reasonable prices. Always super friendly and efficient service. The rolls are quite good, but its the banquets that are the pick. Go here with a big group on a weekend, stuff yourself silly, and have a wiggle with the belly dancer. Highly recommend.

You don't need too many words to rate this gem. Outstanding! Fabulous owners who know how to serve good food and give great service. No wonder they have lasted the distance with over 40 years in the industry. God bless.

Not sure how this scored so high from other reviewers, it was really disappointing. 2 out of 3 fried dishes we ordered were reheated, not fresh. The other dishes were average too. You can't reheat fried food in a table service restaurant. The setting was quite bleak as well. Redeeming factors were the nice staff and hummus.

I've been buying their shawarma and kafta kebabs since Jesus was a boy. Best value in Newtown. Their rolls weigh significantly more than other kebab places in the area (I did the experiments: science!), and are just so yummy. Their baklava is made especially, and to die for

Great option for Lebanese food on King Street. Awesome range, and the owner was very friendly and gave complementary sides and bread. Plenty of room at lunchtime for a large group of friends. Food was all very tasty and the prices very affordable.

First Impression: May look simple from the front, but the wonderfully warm welcome from owner / chef will keep you coming back alone. Look & Feel: The old lady will make you feel at home and nothing is too much trouble. There is restaurant style seating at the rear if you intend to stay for a nice sit-down meal or group event (with a separate menu). Quality & Taste: Amazing. Fresh ingredients, home-made and full of authentic impactful flavours. Opt for the extras and sides, they are all fantastic and enhance the meal so much. Desserts are a treat as well. Empty Wallet: You'll walk away with plenty of change, no matter how greedy you are. Get the basic wrap ($5.50 - $6.50) but don't skimp on the bonuses (eggplant, fried califlower, vine leaves etc for $1 - $2). Desserts are equally good value (baklava $2/ large piece). Must Have: Add the eggplant, fried cauliflower (or both!) to the falafel wrap for an amazing vegetarian meal which would satisfy anyone's tastes and still comes in well under $10.

This is one of the older Lebanese places and they may not have modernised but they have kept their prices old-school. $7.50 for a felafel roll. The felafel started out crispy and rich but then they microwaved it, so not the best, but at this price, it’s amazing. Plus fantastic garlic sauce and chilli sauce.

Traditional Lebanese food!

Best falafel wraps I've ever had!
No bullshit asking for toppings they provide the good stuff!
So cheap too! $6.50!!

Only critique I would give is to re fry those fine ass falafels! I loooove crispy falafels!
But I'm sure if you were nice and asked politely they would!
This place is an institution. Falafel rolls have never been so cheap and yet so full of garlic and hummus. When all the froyos and stupid donut shops are gone, Rowda Ya Habibi will stand triumphantly - relicing back to a time before the bourgeoication of Newtown's gastronomy. Screw the yuppies, eat at Ya Habibies!

The food is pretty classic middle eastern fare, but Ya Habibi gets extra points for being wonderfully affordable- you can get a pretty hefty amount of food for less than $10, such as a massive falafel roll that's only $6.50. On top of that, the owners are lovely people and super helpful.

Poor quality, reheated (microwave) food.
- The dips were clearly out of a can and most of the food was soggy and not fresh.
- Lamb was not cooked fresh and was over well done

DO NOT EAT HERE.

Avoid this restaurant at all costs - there are much better alternatives that you must have passed to get to this establishment. Called in advance to book a table for two for a Monday night, but I was advised that they were full. Just to check, I walked past on that Monday and they were COMPLETELY empty. In fact, every time I pass this place nobody is there (please see attached photo). I wonder why? There is one answer to that question - Rowda Ya Habibi's meat rolls. Absolutely terrible. I ate here with a mate and we both agreed that they were very average.

Phoned in advance, and was able to book the best seat in the house, the one near the window. Ordered the meat roll which was delicious, I shared it with a mate. Spoke to the family whilst eating my meal who were sitting around the restaurant sipping tea, delightful people. 10/10 would eat again

Had eaten here a few years ago and the food was great. Unfortunately I went back a few days ago and have never had a worse meal in my life! They literally reheated the food - we could hear the microwave ding - and everything was therefore dry and tasteless. Safe to say I will never be eating here again!

Left over food reheated in microwave!. Horrible, Low quality food reheated in front of our eyes!
Never will come back again...

We were warned us that the restaurant was nothing flash, but that the food was good. To us, that’s what mattered, good food. We walked in, and like other reviews I’ve since seen, it does look a bit dodgy – like your standard take away kebab shop that you’d visit at 1am on a Saturday night on your way home from a big night out. But walk through the take away section into the modest restaurant out the back and allow yourself to be pleasantly surprised by great cheap food. It is simply decorated, but that’s not what you come here for. We were all craving mezze, so we ordered hummus, tabouli, babaganoush, falafel and stuffed vine leaves to get us started. The babaganou

Baba ghanoush-Ohmygod, this was soooooooooooo delicious! It had a wonderful smoky flavour and I slathered this over pretty much everything in the banquet. Good thing it was a generous serving!

I’ve been walking past Rowda Ya Habibi for years and years but I’ve never ever eaten there. It looks a little dodgy if I’m honest, harsh lighting and your standard laminate tables and big clunky chairs from your nanna's house. The food is all displayed in

Rowda Ya Habibi is no doubt one of the best Lebanese restaurants in Sydney. Excellent value aside, the food here is always freshly cooked, tasty and served in copious quantities. The cushion room upstairs makes it a great venue for relaxed group feeds and

The reasonably priced Deluxe Mazza Banquet ($25 per person) comes with your typical banquet dishes you'd expect which won't leave you hungry.

Rowda Ya Habibi is a low key gem of a Lebanese joint in Newtown. I've been walking past Rowda Ya Habibi for fifteen years and never stepped inside. I have no idea why, it looks right up my alley: it's low rent, family run, and aging. I guess I thought it

Leg 1 of 5 of our night out with ladyironchef (yes, 5!), commenced with dinner at Rowda Ya Habibi, a Lebanese restaurant located on the main strip of King St, Newtown (albeit on the fringe). Rugs, hung up on the walls of the private room that we dined in,

This is actually my first time here at Rowda Ya-Habibi and I am quite surprised to see how different the ambiances are between the little dingy shop front with harsh fluorescent light like your typical takeaway joint, with big glass food display, a few pa

Our experience was a let down from the get go. The plates were dusty & when we wiped them clean the napkin was almost black. The lady took forever to serve us & was quite rude, but treated other customers very differently & spoke in a more nicer tone. The food wasn't too bad but a few bites I had throughout the meal, I kept on biting into a texture that only I can describe as almost like sand (I wouldn't be surprised if it was actual sand). The food didn't look fresh either. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Great for a quick meal!. Had a quick dinner here as we were in a rush. We had falafels, kafta and omelette. All of which were delicious. The service is good too. This place is located in Newtown's vibrant King st. I recommend this place to all.

I have been here several times now, the food is always amazing, the staff are lovely, and the prices are great. Would have to be my favourite place to eat in Newtown.

AWESOME FOOD!!. It's become tradition for me to come here every Saturday for lunch. This place offers delicious, healthy Vegan/Vego food. For $16 I get the Vegan mixed plate and the serving size is huge, you definitely get what you pay for. I've been here with my brother's and they had no complaints what so ever, they really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and people. The couple who own this business are really friendly, kind and welcoming and are happy to cater for your needs. Healthy, delicious, home- cooked, wholesome food; that's what these guys are all about. I INSIST for everyone to try this place, you won't be disappointed :)

Melt-in-your-mouth Lebanese. I've been getting felafel rolls from here for about 25 years. I've not had better, though Lord knows, I keep looking. U.nfortunately I don't live in Sydney anymore.)

In fact anything that you get at Rowda Ya Habibi is fantastic, including perfectly balanced hommous with depth, deliciously smoky baba ghannoush, cabbage rolls, foul and tabouli.

Mana from heaven for vegans.

Lots of tasty veg dishes - the veg banquet is really cheap and great for a group. Couldn't eat it all. The owners are lovely.

Nice food nice people. Was introduced by our tour guide to this Lebanese shop. The authentic lebanese food and the friendly owner will totally be one of my favourite. Reasonable price and try to order for a share plate if ur new to lebanese food or u want totry out more varieties of food with your peeps.

Best authentic take away cuisine of its kind.. Just as the title says. Avoid the other take out joints and get a delicious vege or felafel roll here. They even do fried cauliflower!

The older woman who runs the counter is clearly a misogynist (she only seems to take a liking to men?) but apart from this mysterious service (which I find amusing - kind of adds to the charm of the place) you can't go wrong with a filling, fresh, delicious roll from here!

Even their baklava is great. Far superior to Sabbaba across the road.

Had some good meals here in the past, but recently had an eggplant kebab that disappointed. Barely any eggplant, too much of cabbage, and left me with a tummy ache.

Yum!. I've been going to Rowda's for years. The food is very tasty. The service is friendly and efficient. The price is spot on. If you're looking for a tasty, no fuss Lebanese meal, this is the place to come. I've never had a bad experience here and will keep on going back. The garlic dip is amazing! Great place for group bookings too. Enjoy!
Asha
Asha. Disgusting place - don't go there. I got a felafel roll from here today for lunch and thought it tasted funny. That's when I realised the inside of the felafel WAS MOULDY! I've been here once before and there was a thick, black hair in my kebab. NEVER AGAIN!

Pretty good kebabs. I quite like the kebabs here though I reckon the green beans kebabs were better than the beef kebabs. The beef was a little tough. But overall, this place is not too bad for a quick meal - beats Subway.
