Review Beach Burrito Company - Newtown

Paolo B
Popped in for a quick snack of guac and chips and the crunchy taco rolls filled with potato. Both delicious. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Will have to come back and try more!

Quite happy to sit here, take in the ambience of a Mexican cantina with a jug of Margi's and all the tasty delights on this extensive menu.

Amazing! from the staff to the drinks to the food.. Everything was delicious!. An explosion of flavours. As a latin American person I can say this place exceeded my expectations. Great job guys!

We really liked the place! The food was good and fresh, the burritos were decent size, and the salad was a bit smaller, but yum. We went there on Saturday early afternoon and didn't need to wait too long. Oh, and don't forget to try the Mexican beer (not only Corona, they had others as well!).

My partner and I come here so often and it’s always AMAZING food! Has tons of flavour and very fresh. And the customer service is always just so lovely. Would recommend for a chill and fun time with good food and cocktails 🙌

I had a lovely experience here! Food came really quick! And the food was amazing! Definitely coming back again! The guy in the glasses? I think his name was Jordan? He was amazing! Had the best smile and treat us so well! Definitely a must go place here in the inner west! For a quick bite and a good time!

Ordered food from this place and honestly I expected more. Paid $50 for a nachos and a chimichanga. Nachos were cold and I could not even take it out of the container to heat it up, the corn chips were stale and horrible. The chimichanga was meant to be crunchy and it was cold and disgusting, only 3 corn chips in the plate and this pieces of lettuce and tomatoes.. If the restaurant knows that the uber is coming late then dont serve the food early. Anyway. I was hungry after such a small dish. I hope it gets better. From me I wont order from this place anymore.

The staff and overall vibe here are good, but after the change in menu I probably won't be coming back. Not only did they take about 75% of the best dishes off the menu, but the ones remaining are a fair bit smaller than they used to be. They still cost the same, though. If I'm going to spend that amount of money on a meal, I'd like to not be still hungry afterwards. Really unfortunate because this place used to be great.

Had a great burrito here last week, really tasty! The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Callum (I think it was?) with the great recommendation!

Amazing friendly atmosphere , great staff always made to feel welcome! Love this place

Got a delivery of Burrito Meal Deal as I was in the mood for Mexican for dinner. It was delivered quickly. Had the Mucho Burrito. It had a combo of meats (beef, pork, chicken) and they certainly don’t skimp on the fillings. It was of a good size and stuffed with rice, black beans, and cheese. Pretty tasty. There was a surcharge for selecting this burrito as part of meal deal. There was also extra to pay to get the Corn Chips And Guac as part of deal too. Crunchy corn chips accompanied by guacamole and salsa was yummy. A can of drink rounded off the meal deal.

I got the pork burrito since the lunch burrito specials and taco tuesday are good deals, otherwise it’s expensive. The pork was pretty tasty but the burrito as a whole was still blander than Guzman or Mad Mex. No different to other Beach Burritos then, however, the restaurant is a nice area and there are some tables on the square, and the staff were great, so it’s ok for a casual meal and drink.

The food was average - I ordered a taco and there wasn’t much chicken. The sweet potato wedges are amazing and the food was cheap. It was a really cosy atmosphere but not for large groups of people

Visited on a public holiday and it was very busy, we scored a seat on the end of a shared table. The service and vibe is very casual which I enjoyed.

You claim a table and then order at the counter, waiters then bring your food to the table. Considering it was busy and staff advised of over a 20 minute wait, our food arrived promptly.

To start with we had chips and gauc, the salsa that comes with this dish was really yummy. To follow was fish and pulled pork tacos, included a vege chips to share. It was a good amount of food/serving size for two hungry humans. I preferred the fish taco to the pulled pork, the vege chips were nice but not my favourite dish of the day - mind you I had to stop myself from continuously picking away at them.

I also devoured a frozen lemon/lime Margherita which went down really well with my meal.

All-in-all I highly suggest beach burrito if you’re catching up with a friend and looking for somewhere you won’t feel rushed.

You can also book tables to avoid missing out.

Public holidays incur a 10% surcharge but beach burrito clearly display this on the menus and counter so it’s not a surprise when you pay.

Great and authentic Mexican joint.
Try the nachos and chimichangas for sure.
They also have burgers but felt like having katsu burgers.
In all a good place.
Food
I had burritos at this place and they were very nice. Staff were proactive and opted to take away your plates once you finished your food.

However the ambience really killed my experience at this page - they have their own DJ doing his stuff but the music was just so awfully loud.

This place is located opposite Newtown Station, we decided to sit on the high chairs as we got in. It's a self service place with some really spicy Jalapeño Poppers. We shared most of our mains, the Burrito and Chimichanga. They had a good variety of vegetarians and their sangrias are really strong.
Daniel Fitzsummons
Pretty disappointing .... Nachos don't get warmed or melted and are $20 bucks .... Says here feeds 2 for $40 but have spent $70 and still starving

Step it up guys
Gaeth Al
This place is a strong contender for the worst burrito in Sydney... if they put any less filling you'd get a piece of bread with rice and beans. I got the "chicken" which has no chicken. And it was just gross. Staff are nice though!
Michelle
Consistent delicious Mexican food at a fast pace. Highly recommend the pork burrito. Juice is great too. If you are looking for something fast and fresh try Beach Burrito.
2hungryysisters
Pretty average in comparison to other Mexican places like Mad Mex and Guzman Y Gomez.
Upon browsing the menu i was disappointed to find that enchiladas were not a thing here and settled for a chipotle chicken fajita instead (which seemed similar to an enchilada).
My partner ordered the mucho burrito (which he said was okay but nothing spectacular). We also ordered chili con carne nachos to share. I also got a watermelon margarita.
When ordering i specifically asked for my fajita to have no rice or beans in it but extra chicken instead (i was willing to pay extra) however when my food arrived it had rice inside. By then though i could not be bothered to ask them to fix it as the food took long enough to arrive and everyone would have finished eating by the time they fixed my order up.
There were no outstanding flavours in the meal, everything tasted pretty average. I would say i enjoyed the margarita more than the food.
If i were to return, it would be purely for the customer service (which was really welcoming and friendly despite how long they take to bring food to you) and the watermelon margarita.

It's offical. My partner and Cobalt are two of "Hearts of Newtown" for the upcoming Newtown festival. To celebrate we went out for dinner (and to see if we could spot any posters).

I chose Beach Burrito Company as we had not been there before and I was looking forward to some Mexican food. We ordered jalapeño poppers, mucho burrito fajita style and a jug of Oaxaca (rum based cocktail with watermelon in it).

Now Jalapeño poppers are my partners thing and we order them every where we go that has them on the menu. These were 4 for $14 and according to him, these are the best ones we have found in Australia so far. It was noted that they leave the skin on the chillies and therefore the batter/breading comes off after biting them.

We ordered two mucho burritos fajita style. This was not what I was expecting. I was imaging the ingredients of a burrito on top of a tortilla. In actuality it was a burrito with salsa and guacamole and corn chips on the side.

The Mucho had "all of the meat", beans and rice. I also detected some chocolate (mole maybe) and some pickles (checking the menu pickled onions).

So my partner rated the experience "a solid 7.5" slotting itself higher than Mad Mex and lower than Flying Fajita Sistas.

Next time I want to try some other things. Especially the chilli cheese fries and/or a Californian style burrito.
Mr Eats
We tried this Mexican place as we thought it would be something different. The menu provides more options than your typical takeaway mex places that are very popular ATM however the standard of food was about the same and you pay a premium for it. Only try the sangria, if you like it overly sweet.
TrufflePig
My experience fell short to expectations with the food at Beach Burrito. Overall this is nothing out of the ordinary, although perhaps slightly better than Guzman/Mad Mex and it has less of a takeaway feel. The haloumi in the 6 inch taco was awful - it was thin and had a grainy like texture, tasting little like haloumi. Outside of this, it could have been good as the fillings were tasty and the mango salsa was delicious. I also loved the tortilla in the 6 inch taco as it had a light, fresh texture.

8 inch tortilla in the Grande Taco on the other hand, was dry in some spots and was similar to what you can buy at the supermarket. The fish in the grande taco had a crispy batter and although relatively tasteless was moist and tender inside. The 'Burnt Orange Salsa' tasted very much like the mango salsa in the haloumi taco. My heart lies with tacos but it might be worth a return visit to try some other options, not rushing though.

Atmosphere here is great. There's a good energy among the other customers and BB had a guy looking after the music on his mac, slinging some decent beats so I found that redeeming.

If you are craving for some good burrito, this id the right place. They have different meat and you can customize it. Also, it is affordable, ranging $14-$20. One burrito is definitely filling. It was also served really fast so if you're really hungry it is a go to place. They have different branches all over Sydney, but I went to the one in Newtown. I tried they're nachos too, the serving wasn't big, good for two people but not for a group of 3 or more. Overall, it is recommended.
>>AMBIANCE: 7 >>FOOD: 6 >>SERVICE: 8

Chilli fries and sangria. good combination for a short walk in the evening through Newtown. i liked this place. i'm sure that i'll be back for the 20 dollars sangria special offer on sundays!
Sara Jennings
Beach Burrito Dee Why-Hands down, worst Mexican food I have ever tasted (and I have tasted a lot!).
In particular, their chicken tacos were doughy (suggesting that the soft taco shell was undercooked), bland but also strange tasting.
They drizzle some strange green sauce and hummus sort of sauce and it is such a strange flavour for Mexican food. The chicken was also undercooked.

Also, in term of the guac and chips, dont just lump some guacomole on some corn chips. Put the guac in a seperate little bowl. Otherwise, only a few cornchips are coated with avocado, and it is hard to scrape it off these corn chips to spread onto the other ones.

Also, the prices reflect that there should be table service.
Laura B
Not a bad spot for Mexican in Newtown. We couldn't go past the $20 sangria special and loved that it was served in a bottle of Jose Cuervo. The food is well priced and the portions are plentiful. Good place for a fun night out.
Vic
Needs to take the hispter out of their burrito. They used make awesome burrito, but now with pickles and pesto!? Quality ingredients no doubt, but the taste is just wrong.
Jade B
Do yourself a favour and avoid this place, unless you enjoy bad service and long waiting times. I invited some friends for my birthday (I chose the venue) and it was so embarrassing .. the long wait and then the average food.
Iain
Avoid. There's plenty of other good Mexican in Newtown. Food was average (after long wait) but prices are well above average. Main problem is staff attitude and rudeness. Not representative of Newtown.
Richard Rosendorff
Awesome new menu. Went to check out what was new, this franchise has a great atmosphere and perfect location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, I met the manager and he recommended the New Baja Barra Burrito. Was super delicious, lightly crumbed fish with a tasty fruit salsa, perfect for summer. Compliment with a 4 pines pale ale, can't go wrong!!!!
James
I visited on a Friday evening and ordered a Chipotle Chicken and a Halloumi taco.

Unfortunately, the wait was a little too long - I generally allow for, and am prepared for a longer wait if the establishment is particularly busy, but in this case it took a noticeably long time.

The tacos (soft-shelled) felt as though they may have sat there, as the tomatoes and salads had soaked completely through in some parts, the alternative being that the fillings had been sitting around for a while - it should be moist, not soaked.

This is not a place to try to hold a conversation, but the prices are acceptable.

As if I didn't already love Beach Burrito in Newtown enough for their always friendly, and super social vibe... Tonight while I was having dinner I met Tom, who is the Bondi store manager. His charm was as tasteful as their delicious sangria (seriously the best I've tasted!). If you haven't schmoozed with Myron, the Newtown Manager, and his wonderful staff, you've been missing out; and don't forget about Taco Tuesdays, and Sangria Sundays.

Jessilou98
Best Mexican in Newtown. I love this place the food is delicious maybe a little pricey for Mexican but it's so yummy and fresh it's totally worth. I had my birthday here and the manager made my night big thanks and I'll be telling the world

Best food ~ Fresh, healthy and fulfilling Mexican. Fish tacos or a grilled fish salad everyday!
Good vibes and good people ✔️

This place doesn't belong in Newtown. My partner and I live in Newtown and we've been checking this place out for a while. It started off "good" (friendly, fairly good food, nice vibe though a bit pricey), then it was okay (food slipping, service getting attitude), then sometimes bad (waiting a long time, more attitude, prices still high), and then tonight was the last straw (and now my first Ubanspoon review).

Tonight was downright "bad". Not because of the food (still average-to-okay), but because of the attitude. One of the staff (I think one of the more senior ones too) gave me so much attitude because I made the mistake of asking for something that one of my friends had apparently already asked for. This guy really got stuck into me in a loud voice.

This is not Newtown. Newtown people accept each other and there's an unwritten rule -- you never shame others.

If you're coming to Newtown for the it's-okay-to-be-me vibe, then avoid this place. There's plenty of other Tex-Mex places on King Street.
Sydneyguyrojoe
They dont reply to emails by the way. I emailed them twice just to ask what specials they have on, like the $3 TACO Tuesday but no reply!!
They do have daily specials, have eaten here twice, the $3 taco's are good value but when it reverts back to its usually price of $5 I believe, its not!! They are quite small but at least they had variety
TRied also there burritos which wasn't too bad
The food came out pretty quickly and ambience wise, after all these years walking past it and not even knowing they existed, they need MORE SIGNS!! I thought the building was part of the Neighbourhood centre!!
Yeah might be back depending on the specials

Great place, would go again.. Great food, I recommend the garden burrito for any vegetarians. Good drink prices too!

Bangin' burritos. We go to beach burrito company every so often and are never disappointed. It's cool, laid back and has delicious good old Mexican fare. Great service, super friendly! Great sangria too!

Beach Burrito in Newtown is probably one of the better tex mex restaurants I have ate at in Sydney. During the day it was fairly empty but I can imagine it gets packed at night. Everything looked good but we have a tendency to over order and my brother strictly forbade us from excessively ordering sides. The menu is a short narrative but its essentially the same meats served in different ways. So for example, you could get the Green Chilli Roasted Pig as a specialty burrito, fajita burrito, quesadillas, taquito, burrito bowl, taco or as a salad. We got the pulled season beef tacos, which you could choose in twos or threes. My brother chowed them down before I could even get a bite but he seemed to enjoy them. The green chili roasted pig fajita burrito was bursting at the seams. I'm surprised that the contents did not come exploding out. The fajita burrito was stuffed with beans, rice, green chilli roasted pig, and vegetables. It was then topped with a spicy salsa and cheese. The faji

Sangria by the litre... Sold! It was cool and refreshing and after all of last night's champagne (Bollinger is only good for watering your plants) it was a welcome change.

The atmosphere is great. As soon as you walk in the door your hit by dozens of paintings, ornamental objects, tequila in mini stand-up coffins behind the counter, and a cramped crowd of people ripping into buckets of beer and massive serves of food.

The Beach Burrito Company does what it does well. Staff are friendly and confident without being condescending. Food is fast and fresh and the servings are exactly what you’d expect from a mexican restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxed and promotes the purchasing of just one more corona before you amble home, contented.
Pete Lead
Prejudice aside, it was a different vibe to other places in Newtown. Definitely going for the laid-back, 'street' ambience. But with a strong Mexican flavour. (Which is more than can be said for the chips & salsa.)
MissPiggyEats
There's no doubt that there are many restaurants out there who really don't like people taking photos in their fine establishments, especially dreaded "food bloggers". I mean it is kinda weird isn't it? To go into someones business and start snapping away, turning the plate this way and that to get the "best angle". If someone came into my office and started taking photos of my work, well - I'd certainly think they'd lost their marbles. That's not all I'd do, but I'm sure kids read this blog so I shouldn't write swear words here. Some restaurants just tell you outright "no photos". Others, like the Beach Burrito Company in Newtown, turn the lights down real low and use orange tinged lamp shades to give everything a "certain glow". Like that's going to stop me taking photos. I'm a blogger on a mission! So let me present you my very orange looking Mexican dinner. The food at Beach Burrito Company was pretty tasty so please look past the fact that the food looks like it's come out of a

Beach Burrito is a licensed venue which offers a couple of frozen margaritas and an interesting list of beers. The pear cider isn't terrible but probably not the best match to the cheesy Mexican fare. Chilli fries There's no pretending when it comes to the chilli fries - there is nothing healthy about it. Not-quite crisp potato chips come smothered with a generous helping of cheese and beef mince chilli with beans that's spicy really only where t

Absolutely the worst Mexican food I have had in a long time. Cardboard would have been more tastier.
Damirmujanic
Horrible. POSSIBLY THE WORST SERVICE I'VE HAD, in a place that serves alcohol and sells what they call food...

Had the worst, most annoying, arrogant staff member who obviously has never had any training in how to speak with other humans.

If I were the owner of this venue I would take a good hard look at the other comments on here and get some new staff with hospo experience... and flavour the food.
Justmovedhere
Ugh why did i go back. Tried this place again. as much as i like the food and the location. i cant stand the staff especially the "Smithy" lookalike ( Gavin and Stacey) manager who struts around and looks at you like you've just killed his mum when all you wanted was your burrito without onion.

-----21 Jan, 2015-----

Great food. "meh" service. Food is delicious. But that is all. No one looks like they want to work there and everyone is too hipster to smile. the main (male) manager is SO rude! . Does not make me want to go back.
Tina2250
Amaze balls. I go here all the time it's my go place to for a tasty meal and cheeky drink in a Friday Great food amazing sangria and really friendly staff
Kinda shocked by some of the other comments

My Russian Aunty makes better jalapeño poppers. Very disappointing experience. I don't write reviews but sometimes you are so appalled at what you have been given you just need to warn others.
We are a family with a five year old. Now I'm not sure if what we experienced today was because its a public holiday? We still had to pay 10% more than a normal day.
The stuffed jalapeños were raw, minimum effort. You should de-seed them, and soften the jalapeño by either baking or other method, stuff then fry. These guys just stuff them and fry them. Had one bite. That was enough. The chilli con carne burrito was cold, when asked why we were told that's the way they do it because of the salad, and if we wanted a warm burrito we should go to a place like Guzman's. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
So in summary: terrible value, staff that are better at excuses than service and a rip off. Avoid.
Thomas.saras
Really mediocre. Lame nachos. Exceptionally unfriendly staff.
Niklasvlekkert
No thanks. Staff are always too-cool and unpleasant, and after literally the fifth time of ordering something and asking to hold the avocado due to allergy and then finding my meal drowning in it, it was a pretty easy decision to stick to GYG.
Lucas
Food is overpriced & nothing special

People who work there are rude.

100% basic.

x
Jeremy_L
Food was great, beer was definitely over priced. However some of the staff are incredibly rude. One of the male staff knocked over my associates coca cola and when asked about it denied it and then proceeded to ignore us. Shame...
Heathen2011
Great Mexican Food. Went here with a couple of mates and we had a great time. You have to try the Lime Prawn Quesadilla. It was out of this world

Excellent Taste & Food. Beach Burrito is one of the best eats in the Newtown area, clean, open and relaxed environment, big servings of food & of course value for money, I will be recommending this restaurant to all my friends,
Msfi
Terrible chilli fries and dried out burritos. One of the worst meals I have eaten in a while. Lunchtime on a Wed. The chilli on top of the fries tasted like it came out of a tin. In fact I have had better from a jar. Meat in burritos was dry and tasteless. Burrito chewy and limp. Had asked a friend to join me so it was embarassing.
Sedgewick92
Taco taco burrito. I have found myself eating here more than anywhere else. i rarely stray from the soft shell tacos, as i enjoy them too much. some days are better than others, but almost always a ripper. good atmosphere, friendly staff, impressively decorated, and the mayonnaise on the pibil pork dishes is to die for. chili chips goes hard as well, and you can't go past 3 dollar taco tuesdays.
as a plus, all the waiters are hot.
Tracey
Our burritos were cold, one of them stone cold. The prawns in the burrito were tiny, frozen school prawns. It just wasn't a good meal
Tony
Two thumbs down. Have tried this place a few times, the service is so consistently bad I won't be back again. The burritos are OK, the tacos not so great, but the sour staff here are ridiculous.
Try Guzman down the road, better food and better service.
The_dancing_pineapple
Terrible. Beach burrito is so hit or miss, recently had the enchiladas for $22, they were so terrible; bland, small and definitely not worth the price. I won't be going back.
Bmj
Great service and $3 tacos on Tuesday are fantastic! Good atmosphere and beers.
Rosa
Yum!. Went to the Newtown store on a Friday night with a voucher. Place was busy but we found a empty table for 6 people. I am a big fan of Mexican food and the food here was great. I had the garlic prawn buritto in a open bowl and it was delicious. Service was good too. Will def be returning.
Matt
Where to begin. The beach.... Where to begin.

The beach burrito is possibly the worst establishment in Newtown I have ever eaten. What about customer service? Well there is none. Simple. As we ate our poorly made burritos we kindly asked for the music to be turned down only to be told to "Deal with it, or go elsewhere" (Plus a few naughty words were yelled at us). We spoke to the DJ who was just as rude when telling us to leave if it was too loud. I can't believe the kind of service we received considering the premium we paid for the food and beverage. The staff were horrible in handling our simple request and we felt very intimidated from here after. Our departure followed soon after and can happily say we will never return.

Please do not give this place business unless you want to be rudely treated.
ThePaps
Great atmosphere, mediocre food. Have been to Beach Burrito Newtown twice now, the second time on a Living Social voucher. The place has a great vibe, quirky decor and is a top spot to meet pals in Newtown for an inexpensive dinner. The frozen margaritas are super yum, very lemony and not too sweet which makes them very refreshing. Unfortunately, that is where the experience ends. The first time I got a burrito, it was so incredibly spicy that it was inedible, which I really think should have been advertised on the menu. The next time I visited I had the green chilli omitted from the same burrito to try again, thinking the problem would be solved. Well, it was still pretty spicy somehow (and I can handle a moderate amount of chilli), but this time tasted so bland that I felt the need to add bucket loads of salt to give it some flavour. The burrito was also served only lukewarm, meaning it went cold almost straight after being served. It's a shame about the food (and mediocre service) because this place has so much potential to be great!
Rob S
Raw Food. Wrapped in a Tortilla. The Burrito I was served looked like a generously sized meal. The inside however was bland with under cooked rice and raw black beans. The pulled beef was next to tasteless. I will not be trying the rest of the menu.
MarkP
Cool vibe - should I wear my chinos?. This place has that cool skate/surf vibe and has the corresponding relaxed approach which is perfect for a weeknight feed. The food was a bit 80's Mexican which is a bit surprising considering where it is. But I suppose it is what it is.
Heneedsfood
Mexican? Really?. I quite liked the fitout and how you can't help but lounge back with mates and Mexican beer. That's where the pro's end for me.

Quite possibly the worst "Mexican" food I've had in this town. No, make that the worst. Starting off with a gum-chewing, uninterested waitress taking orders at the counter and some severely ordinary tacos overloaded with salsa and guacamole. The chipotle chicken burrito bowl lacked distinctive flavours. I hear that a few of the other dishes are good but I have no inclination to find out.
Thomas Hepburn
They had poor service. It took a very long time to make our order, even though there was lots of people working and only a few people eating. And in the end we didn't even get what we ordered or any serviettes or cutlery when requested. Very disappointing.
Louise
Newtown female staff were bitchy and at one point rolled eyes and made jokes with other staff members which made us feel uncomfortable. Will never return to an establishment with that much rude attitude.
Jimmy Trimels
As others have said, the food is great; fresh, well-balanced and well-priced. You couldn't ask for better. I can't stress enough how excellent their menu is.

The service though? Inexplicably and consistently terrible. It seems easy to provide good service at a counter restaurant--the interactions are so brief that you wouldn't think it possible to rub someone the wrong way. But some of the staff seem to be profoundly unhappy, or autistic, or ridiculously overworked, or whatever excuse you prefer for employees acting like you're taking my order at gunpoint.
Quetzal Diaz De Leon
The food is alright, however not Mexican at all and please dont confuse tasty with salty.
I hated sitting inside, is too dark and the music is quite loud. Sitting outside improves the experience 100%.
Will come back though, but only for drinks and only for the outdoor dining experience
Kimberly Mary
Quesadilla's & Chilli Fries. Love this place! Chilli con carne quesadilla & chilli fries are the perfect remedy for a cold chilly winter's night. Sitting outside - fab on warmer nights and for the cooler nights wrap up warm (even if near a gas heater).

Staff are very friendly. Love the variety of beverages too.
Julie Mockett
The only good thing about Beach Burrito Newtown is it's location as a meeting point. I thought the nachos were very average, it was basically corn chips with minimal topping, plus over priced. If you are after a good burrito walk up to Guzman and Gomez.
Gayle And Greg
Arriba arriba. Tried this place on a voucher and thoroughly enjoyed it. The jalapeno quesadilla and the bean and cheese quesadillas were delicious. The beef in the chimichanga was tasty. As for the staff I read the reviews about their rudeness but they must have got rid of those ones as we found them friendly and the service prompt. LOVE the dj playing records and the frozen tequila margarita was morish. Will definitely be back and we are going to try the taco tuesday also. Love the funky Newtown vibe.
Locally Yours
Do they expect tips?. I get the impression that the staff here expect tips... or need them.... because they act kinda grumpy. I've been here a few times and enjoyed a beer. Great location to hang out. The soft shell tofu tacos are lovely. The lime chilli prawn taco or burrito sounds promisingly tasty but lacks zing. Tuesday special $5 beer and taco is what I'll be back for. For $5 I don't care if the person at the counter makes me stand waiting because they're busy stacking shelves and feel the need to voice the importance of their shelf stacking duties to me.
Adam
Great atmosphere and setup...too bad the service was well below par. 45min wait for 2 burritos and no apology...place wasn't even busy.
Miss Potato
The vege and tofu quesadilla sounded great on the menu, but in reality it was pretty much just a big tortilla full of rice - for which I paid $17.95. Not impressed.
InnerCityFoodie
It's a Wednesday night and it's packed. Great food & good prices. Order and pay at the counter. The music inside is WAY too loud, lucky we got a seat outside - which was nice.
Saucy6969
Lose the attitude. Counter wait staff is full of negative attitude. was charged twice on my credit card for 1 purchase. no apology, just cash slapped in my hand. food lacks flavor. look elsewhere for mexican.
Newtown Tragic
Contrast to GYG. This is different mex to GYG, but also good. Not sure if its BETTER. Like it though and want to explore the menu more. Taco Tuesday is good value if you want to try them out.
Don't expect table service or waiters fawning...its good tunes, good food and cold beer
Shelley
Really? People whinging about the service at a venue where you place your order at the counter, take a number, sip cold beer and listen to the in-house DJ while you wait for your food....I don't get it!? This place isn't trying to be something it's not - it's effectively mexican takeaway but it's cheap, it's tasty and it's got a great vibe and a lot more style than guzman or mad mex. A welcome addition to the neighbourhood....even if you can never get a seat!

Wow beach burrito in Newtown! Pretty hyped about that as I stumbled across it on my daily walk to the park and back with me dog scruffy, I have been to the one at bondi many of times and the vibe there is like party everyday then party every night. I find the in Newtown has a lot more of a culture vibe, but that doesn't mean you can't party on! saw a few resovation so I guess you can book a party or some type function. I booked a resovation for 12 the other night and man did we blast. Even just a get together for a few beers and chill out on a Sunday arvo, they even have a dj spinning the vynal. Cool skate memos Aswell. I'll defiantly be bring more mates!

Worst mexican in Sydney. Other reviews begin with the restaurant's strongest points, and I shall continue the trend. The Beach Burrito Company has a name which precedes it (taken from it's highly successful Bondi cousin) and a decor to fit suitably within Newtown's bohemian lifestyle. Oh, and they serve Modelo, a Mexican Beer.

And so beginning with the prepubescent arrogance from the front counter staff, through to the inauthentic meals, this restaurant has many weak points.

As we looked to find a table, the staff immediately began eyeing us with unwelcoming indifferent stares and were very inattentive when taking our order, which later turned out to be incorrect - bad news for the allergy sufferers on our table!

The staff continued to demonstrate their blasé attitude by openly drinking in front of customers at the counter and near the food collection point.

The food that was eventually served to us was bland and prepared in an unimaginative way; The meat was watery and lacked depth, to the point that our hands were soaked after the burrito. And what is with cabbage being an ingredient in ALL of their dishes?

The taquitos were empty shells, lacking in substance and were served ill-shaped and hastily put together. Half our order was forgotten, leaving some of our table to watch the others eat.

The location and decor will allow this establishment to continue operating, however, for those of us who have some experience with genuine Mexican food will not be back, instead visiting the authentic El Guervo up the road in Enmore, the slightly finer dining Mexican experience at El Loco (Surry Hills) or for a quick fix, GyG in Newtown or Tomatillo in King's Cross. All of which are staffed by friendly and attentive bona fide Mexicans.

There is better Mex in Newtown. Food is good quality without flavour. I don;t want to drench everything in Mex hot sauce to get some flavour to it!
The fit out is great and I love the loud music and funky decor. However there is much better Mexican to be had at Guzman and Izote. This is a glorified pub with average food...sorry! I wanted to love it... :(

Love It!. Went in a group of around 6 and found seating quite easily... they were out of a few menu items but what we ended up ordering was delicious!

10/10

Absolutely disgusting service. The chick behind the counter couldn't tell us when our food would be ready and to add insult to injury people ordering well after us had recieved their orders before us. Trust me and stick to either bondi or cronulla for a beach burrito experience

This place is a joke waiting 40 minutes for 10 chicken taquitos.... And they keep telling us "yes they are on the way" with no indication of the tIme frame. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. Unless you have half an afternoon to waste waiting!

Finally! Mexican food that reminds me of good Mexican food in Cali! Will definitely be going back!

Nice but not amazing food, great music selection.

Why all the hate?. I stumbled across this place after a serious 9 day bender and found the food fresh and extremely well priced.
The decor is what cool people would call cool. The waitstaff are nice too as anyone who brings me food is my friend.
Mexican is becoming more and more popular around Sydney and this place is one of the reasons why.
They play great music too.
Defo check this place out.

Mi gusta. Dropped in before going and seeing Manu Chao at the Enmore (he was awesome!) and picked up a grille fish salad and a Margarita. Fish was awesome and salad was fresh - I'm addicted to the tortilla bowl! Definately recommending this as a great pre gig dinner option.

Yum yum yum. I love this place. Great location, yummy food and some cute waiters! I always get my friends to meet here for birthdays etc - tacos and tequilla beats any birthday cake!

Worst meal ever. Arrogant clueless waiter no idea customer service. The menu listed beautiful flavours that did not exist in the food presented. Say NO to Beach Burrito Newtown what a waste of a good location. If you want good Mexican go to Guzman and Gomez just a short walk up King Street that's what we did. Far superior and friendly staff.

Really average food , rude management. This place is just plain rude , a crappy atmosphere and average food . Not a good edition to Newtown at all .
