Thanks for the owner who accepted my booking for a table of ten under the restriction of only 10 people for dine-in last month. I arranged this mini party to celebrate my wife’s birthday. In other words, the restaurant belonged to us for the whole lunch trading. Having said that Penny arranged four staff to look after us (2 chefs and 2 wait staff).
Needless to say, service and food are both above average.
We had the edamame to start with while we were waiting for the meals. Then the deluxe sashimi platter, Chawan Mushi, fried oysters, different skewers, Tempura vegetables, grilled eggplants, bbq mushrooms, grilled squid and hot pots were gradually presented to the table. It was so spectacular and every guest had enjoyed the meals very much.
Once again, thanks for the hospitality.🙏🙏🙏

Japanese is still one of my favourite cuisines so when I found out that I was going for a Japanese dinner I was really excited.

Almost as much as my lovely company. I met Phuong Tran, Gaik Kee Khoo and Joe K. What great company and how nice it was to meet such wonderful people.

This restaurant is in a large shopping centre with lot of Asian restaurants.

The service from the staff was attentive and very nice.

We shared a sashimi platter for entree and the presentation was easily 5/5. It looked amazing and what an amazing start to our dinner.

We then had some yummy tempura and the batter was light and the seafood and the vegetables were top quality.

I then had a main of teriyaki chicken which was superb. It was soft and juicy and tender. The teriyaki sauce was perfect, it had a good marinade without being sickly sugary sweet.

The sides were good and the miso soup was delicious!

What a great night with some great company, thank you all and I look forward to seeing you all again.

Sorry @Phuong Tran I can't seem to tag you anymore.

Great overall experience. Loved the beef tataki the best, only comment was that the slices were a little too thick. The chicken karage was a little disappointing..too oily but kudos to the serving size!

When: Early weekday evening
For: 2 people
Order and Rating (/5⭐):

🐟 Deluxe Sashimi Plate ($58): Scallops extremely creamy and to die for! Thick slices of fish (King, Salmon, Tuna). They also had two other varieties (sliced clams I think) which were an interesting texture but very tasteless. Plating of the dish was beautiful. Next time, I'd rather just order my favourites separately. (3.5⭐)

🐄 Wagyu and Truffle Sauce ($21): 6 small cubed portions, topped with some fresh herb/vegetable and garlic, and drizzled with truffle sauce. I personally didn't taste much of the truffle, but my partner did. The wagyu was lacking and required quite a bit of chewing. I'll be honest, I can get a better texture with a cheap cut of steak at medium to rare. Perhaps they overcooked this dish. (2⭐)

🍆 Tempura Vegetables ($15): Good batter and very crispy! Doesn't beat the tempura in Japan but that's totally understandable. The dipping sauce seemed like a diluted soy sauce and could have been slightly stronger and sweeter. Vegetables included eggplant, asparagus, assorted mushrooms, sweet potato, and leek. (3⭐)

🍣 Grilled Salmon and Prawn Tempura Roll ($21): Decent and yummy. I can't really pinpoint what was lacking. Perhaps it was the smokey flavour from the flame torch that you would usually get with aburi style sushi. I'd still order this again, but I'd rather try out other options first. For now, Oishii does it better unfortunately. (3.5⭐)

🍹 Lemon Ice Tea ($4): It's like Lipton lemon ice tea! Technically no faults with this for the price. (5⭐)

All of the dishes came out relatively fast and the service was nice. Service isn't something I'm picky about. I would come again! (3.5⭐)

⚠️ Do note that the menu on Zomato and their Facebook aren't recent anymore. There's been a price increase for some of the dishes. A lot of the dishes from the Zomato menu that aren't on the Facebook menu are actually still available. ⚠️

If you got a thing for Japanese cuisine, then you’d probably become a huge fan of Hana Zushi. Portion and prices measure up to each other and not to mention the quality will not fail your expectations. Situated in the outside area of Sunny Park Shopping Town is Hana Zushi Japanese Restaurant. An establishment that offers up high-end Japanese foods housing a large selection of well-known sushi rolls, fresh sashimis and nigiris. If you’re keen on trying something you don’t see on many Japanese menus, you may be interested in their soups, hot pots or appetisers. I don’t have a huge obsession for Japanese cuisine, but when I say this place does it ‘GREAT’ I mean it and you’ll see why.

I was invited here with another fellow foodie as guests for lunch. We were greeted by the friendly Manageress Penny and provided menus. There was so much to choose from, we eventually thought it’d be more of a ‘surprise’ if Penny made the decision for us instead.

Around 10 minutes later the first dish makes its way to the table. And my god, the presentation was astonishing. Filling up the bowl was shaved ice, presented with sliced Tuna, Snapper and King Fish on top. A cocktail glass placed in the middle consisting of thick cut Salmon. Wasabi was included and so was 2 slices of lemon to give your taste buds some extra tang. I can easily say, this Sashimi Platter was perfect!

The Charcoal Chicken Skin Skewer was up next. Probably one of my favourites out of the lot. The preparation of this dish is lengthy and thanks to the skilled chefs, we eventually found ourselves enjoying a chicken skin that was full of bomb flavours, slight crispiness and BBQ sauce with a fragrant sesame scent.

Nana Oyster Nigiri, being the third dish was presented on a grey stone board. Let me first say, oysters have a very special place in my heart. The oyster on top tasted fresh and the rice below held in a nice subtle vinegar flavour. To make sure they didn’t fall apart, it was wrapped together by a piece of seaweed. No doubt, this was an enjoyable dish!

Served on a rectangular dish was the Charcoal Grilled Mackerel Pike. The Mackerel had an attractive golden glow. Well-cooked it was, and with the help of the lemon juice, it removed majority of the fishy scent.

Whilst picking into the Mackerel, a staff came by presenting us with a 6 piece serving Gyoza. The Gyoza withheld a beautiful light crunch after being on the pan. Taking a bite into the Gyoza and it reveals the filling which consists of minced pork and scallion. Juicy and flavoursome.

Next we have the Wagyu Beer Aburi Nigiri. Again, served on a stone board and served in two the Wagyu was thinly sliced with sprinkled scallions and chopped up dry seaweed on top. The Wagyu gave out a pleasant smoky scent and as per taste wise, the meat was soft and was complemented well with the made-in-house BBQ sauce.

Steam egg is a favourite of mine, and it brings back a lot of childhood memories. Manageress Penny served us with a dish called Cha-wa-n-mu-shi. This dish consists of a cup filled with steam egg and a scallop on top. To complete this combo, a tea pot containing soup, fish cake and mushrooms was also presented. Together, they both had beautiful light balanced flavours with hints of seafood tastes.

Scampi is another sashimi-like dish, though the presentation was similar to our first dish, this time we are instead presented with 3 fresh scampi’s. Soft and slightly crunchy in texture, as I took the first bite a mix of sweet and citrus flavours were presented. I can call this a palate refresher! Yum!

I’ve only ever had Lotus Root in soups, so when the Fried Lotus Root came out, my eyes widened. Sliced into thin pieces, cooked with a light batter and garnished with nori flakes, the lotus chips were nice and crispy. No oiliness left on the palate -thumbs up-!!

Up next we got, Flamed Grilled Wagyu Beef Cubes. Decorated with a piece of fried garlic and a pinch of scallions, the first bite was perfect. The Wagyu held in nice beefy flavours and again was complimented so well with the truffle BBQ sauce. Delicious!

Couple minutes later the Grilled Eggplant makes its way to our table and ‘ohhh it smelt good!!’ One minimalistic looking dish filled with miso sauce and sprinkled on top with sesame. Taking my first spoon full and I tasted the soft texture as well as the sweetness from the miso. Very fragrant and tasty, this dish deserves ‘two -thumbs up-‘!!

Coming into the category of Sushi Rolls, we were introduced to the Fried Oyster Roll. Presented with 8 pieces and consisting of Deep Fried Oyster, Cucumber and finished off with Spicy Lobster, Roe and a pinch of Scallions. A delightful combo of balanced flavours. The second roll was the Surf & Turf Roll. Presented on a long white plate and drizzled over with sweet BBQ sauce, the roll contained Crumbed Prawns, Cucumber, Avocado and Mayo. Wrapped around was perfectly cooked rice, thinly sliced Wagyu Beef that was lightly flamed, Scallions and Sesame. The light refreshing flavours came from the prawn and cucumber and the smokiness from the Wagyu. (Admittedly, there was a party in my mouth)
One of the best sushi rolls I’ve had in Brisbane!!

Tempura in a Japanese Restaurant cannot possibly be missed. The Tempura Set had the offerings of Large Prawns and Vegetables. The batter was made just right (compared to many other Japanese Restaurants I’ve visited, the batter is normally quite thick). The dish was accompanied with sweet soy sauce to give it some extra flavour. Everything was perfectly cooked and was presented beautifully.

Approaching an end to our visit, we were lastly served with 3 different soups. The first was the Assorted Seafood Soup, served in a small teapot. This dish contained Mushrooms, Fish Cake, Scallops, Chicken Thigh, King Trumpet and Clams. Secondly, was the Fish Head Miso Soup served in clear broth with the inclusions of Soft Tofu and Scallions. Lastly, the Fish Belly Ginger Soup containing a mixture of seafood. All flavours in each pot balanced well and had its own uniqueness. I have to mention, the last soup (Fish Belly Ginger Soup) was definitely a winner for me out of the three. The salmon in the pot was tender in texture. With a bit of the ginger tang, the soup was absolutely divine.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit at Hana Zushi. The produce was consistently fresh and well presented (as shown in all dishes). A big thank you to Manageress Penny, for the invitation and providing my dining companion and I with a memorable experience.

Good Stuff: To maintain the high quality, fish and oysters are brought in fresh every morning. Lunch Bento’s are popular as well, with prices ranging between $19-$28. Specials are also available daily (don’t miss out!)

Hana Zushi is a high end Japanese restaurant located in Sunny Park. Modern Japanese decorations, large dining area and great selection of traditional & fusion mix cuisines have made this a popular establishment for many years. We were invited guests of Manageress Penny for a week day lunch. After reviewing their extensive but well-presented menu offerings, we asked Penny to decide on dishes for this meal.

Combination sashimi plate (L): was first to arrive. The beautifully decorated dish contains thick cut salmon, tuna, king fish and snapper sashimi (in a rose shape). Each and every piece of fish was fresh with big flavours. Paired with freshly grated wasabi and lightly salted Japanese soy sauce, you have a near perfect sashimi plate with the freshest fish I have ever had in a Brisbane Japanese restaurant. Bravo! 4.5/5

Charcoal chicken skin skewers: comes in a serving of two, brushed with Japanese BBQ sauce and a touch of roasted sesame. The making of this dish is a painstaking process involving firstly removing all the underlying chicken fat from the skin, flash boiling, drying, skewering, marinating and finally charcoal grilling (try making this at home guys…). What you’re left with is a flavourful chicken skin with minimal fat but maintained the concentrated skin flavours. Brushed with sweet and salty BBQ sauce, you have the perfect Yakitori dish and a must order! 5/5

Nana oyster nigiri: wrapped with nori with a touch of fish paper. The oyster was fresh with bold flavours; rice presents fragrant vinegar scent with perfect balance of soft vs chewiness. As an overall package it’s a delightful dish to start the meal. 4/5

Charcoal grilled mackerel pike: with a wedge of lemon and dried apricots. The well cooked fish presents mildly fishy taste with plenty of fish oil. A squeeze of lemon reveals a wonderful citrus taste which eliminated nearly all the fishiness. A minor letdown however was the undercooked belly side. 3.5/5

Gyoza: in a 6pc serving with a dash of Japanese mustard. The gyoza here is handmade in house and cooked to order (unlike most places in Brisbane). Each gyoza presents an appetising crust with a fragrant meaty scent. Minced pork and scallion filling was juicy, flavourful and perfectly seasoned. Best Gyoza I have ever had in Brisbane! 4.5/5

Wagyu beer aburi nigiri: two pc service with lightly flamed wagyu slices, topped with scallions & finely chopped seafood infused stripes all drizzled in a house made sweet BBQ sauce. The wagyu presents a smoky and beefy taste with a soft and buttery texture. Paired with the again perfectly cooked rice and toppings, you have a fusion nigiri which excites the palate. 4/5

Chawanmushi: steamed egg with seafood served in a Japanese cup. From the outside there was only a single slice of scallop, dig deep and will find large prawn, fish cake and a piece of pre-marinated chicken. Steamed egg was delicate with hints of dashi and big seafood taste. Goodies hidden inside were tender with delicate flavours. A well-made Chawanmushi that’s for sure. 4.5/5

Sashimi Scampi: served as a trio in a beautifully decorated bowl. The super fresh scampi’s presents a sweet and near crunchy texture with delicate flavours. What a treat this is! 4.5/5

Fried lotus roots: thinly sliced lotus roots in light tempura batter flash fried with nori flakes. The lotus chips were delightfully crispy with mild flavours and no oily mouthfeel. A great appetiser with beer. 4/5

Flame grilled wagyu beef cubes: topped with fried garlic & scallion drizzled with truffle BBQ sauce. The one bite sized cubes instantly melts in your mouth with big buttery and beefy taste. Paired with the well-seasoned truffle BBQ sauce, you have a flavour bomb which screams luxury. Delicious! 4/5

Grilled eggplants: with miso sauce and a touch of white sesame. A simple looking dish charcoal grilled. Dig in with a spoon reveals the juicy green eggplant flesh with fragrant miso scent. The eggplant was soft, mushy with natural sweetness and only hints of saltiness from the miso sauce. A very well executed dish and Mrs Tomcat’s fav. 4.5/5

Fried oyster roll: in a serving of 8pc contains deep fried crumbed oysters, shredded cucumber and nori all topped will spicy lobster. The oysters were perfectly fried with a crunch outer coating and a medium rare centre. Paired with the perfectly cooked rice and rich, spicy lobster salad, you have a signature dish which excites the palate. A minor let down however was the chewy lobster meat. 3.5/5

Surf & turf roll: with deep fried crumbed prawns, shredded cucumber, avocado & mayo all wrapped with nori, rice and torched medium rare wagyu beef. A touch of Japanese BBQ sauce, finely chopped scallions and sesame was used to garnish. All ingredients worked its magic and complement each other to present a near perfect balance of flavour with a rich and satisfying mouthfeel. One of the best fusion rolls I have ever had! 4.5/5

Tempura set: fried to order large prawns & mix vegetables presented as a decorative dish. The tempura coating is made fresh daily and presents a mildly fragrant egg, wheat & buttery scent. Each and every ingredient was perfectly cooked and retains the natural flavours without the oiliness on the palate. Paired with radish sweet soy dipping sauce, you have a skilfully fried dish which captures the magic of Japanese cuisine. 4/5

Assorted seafood soup: served in a traditional Japanese teapot contains king trumpet mushrooms, fish cake, dehydrated scallops, cuts of chicken thigh and fresh clams all simmered in a dashi based clear broth. The combination of ingredients presents a strong depth of flavour with a light mouthfeel. Seasoning was done to perfection with a very equal balance of sweet vs saltiness. This pot of gold took everyone by surprise and is the best soup I have tasted in a very long time. Simply perfection! 5/5

Fish head miso soup: with soft tofu and scallions. A taste of the broth showed strong salmon, shellfish and miso flavours. Fish head utilized was fresh and presents a very creamy mouthfeel. As an overall package the strong salmon scent may not be to everyone’s liking. 3.5/5

Fish belly ginger soup: with fresh clams was the last dish to arrive. The clear dashi based soup presented strong ginger with a mild salmon taste. Seafood was cooked just right with the salmon maintaining a delicate texture and the clam juicy and flavourful. Mrs Tomcat’s fav soup of the meal. 4.5/5

Overall service: for a busy Friday lunch was attentive and efficient. Although hard to fault, a bit more smiles from the waitresses and less robotic response would be ideal. 4/5

My meal at Hana Zushi was an eye opening experience, not only did I sample some of the best Japanese dishes I have had in Brisbane, but also learnt the importance of fresh ingredients and the change in flavour. The focus and dedication to ingredient quality at Haza Zushi was clearly shown in each and every dish. Keep up the good work guys!

Hint: strongly recommend all the dishes mentioned with >4/5 rating. Do ask for daily fresh fish specials and order yourself some warm sake.

The food is consistently good - as a vegetarian I have limited choice but I always find something to suit my taste. The tempura is amazing and so are the fried lotus roots. What I like most about this restaurant is the ambience, though. The interior is designed very carefully and artfully with perfect dim lighting and beautiful wooden furniture. It's hard to find great interior design in Sunnybank restaurants! The food presentation is very nicely done, too, little works of art.

A wonderful place for quality, authentic Japanese food Hana Zushi remains one of my favourite haunts for Japanese cuisine. The sashimi is always very fresh, beautifully presented and all the dishes I have tried so far rely on the quality of the ingredient (thereby highlighting the subtlety of flavours that defines Japanese cuisine). Standout dishes so far have been the Miso Eggplant, Fresh Oysters and Nigiri. This can be a fairly busy restaurant on a weekend but I believe it still remains one of Sunnybanks best kept secrets. As long as the standard remains as high as it has been I'll definitely be back for more.

Nice food , good service, the sashimi allways fresh, nice looking and served on top of ice flag. Too good😋 and also stired fry seafood marimara udon, nice aroma and tasty, good to try, the wagyu stired fry rice is a one of their signature dish as well, smell so good and the way cooking method of the rice just like individual cooked not like sticky rice, nice flavors.

Decided to try this restaurant after seeing a review online. The sashimi was cold and fresh. The pork miso skewers were tasty and would definitely recommend this dish. A bowl of rice was ordered to go with the meal, however it was brought out as soon as the order was put in. So by the time the food came along, the rice was cold. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I think that the prices were a bit high for some of the dishes.

Been to Hana Zushi many times. Their service is great, food wasn't as good as before though. However, their salmon sashimi is the best, fresh and tasty, the presentation is beautiful. Their 芥末章鱼 (I'm not sure if it's called wasabi squid) is delicious too. They also offer different varieties of Japanese beer (Asahi, Sapporo, 梅子酒 etc). Overall, I'd return again.

I love Hana Zushi. Their food is a bit more pricey but it is delicious. My favourites are the Chicken Teriyaki Meal Set and the Nimono. For those that don't know what a Nimono is, it is a shimmer dish with concentrated broth (a bit like a hot pot).

I've also had their sashimi which is beautifully presented (not as good as Sushi Edo though) and their pork cutlet curry which is so so. Unfortunately (Sorry Hana Zushi), I'd have to say their sushi rolls are the worse. For about $16 a roll, the rolls tasted like mush. The rice is too soft and the cucumbers are thinly shredded so there's not enough texture. I've tried the rolls 6 times so this is not based on a one time experience. Other than their sushi, all other menu items range from average to excellent.

From what I can tell, the place isn't run by Japanese but that doesn't stop them from making pretty good Japanese food. Good service and good food.

I had the chowamushi and grilled fish. The chowamushi was great, it was classic style. The grilled fish was perfect, my son and I enjoyed it. The teriyaki set was the only thing that was not perfect, it tasted more like hoisin than teriyaki.

Newest restaurant in Sunnybank! Hana Zushi is located at the old Sunny Breeze Japanese Restaurant at Sunnypark Shopping Centre, Sunnybank. We are always eager to try out new restaurants, let’s see whether Hana Zushi could surprise us :) Ambience: typical  Asian  style  Japanese  restaurant – tranquil and elegant Menu: pretty extensive with lots of choices of sushi rolls and a lat carte hot dishes Friendly staff (mainly Taiwanese) and kids friendly! What I liked most is their  Yakitori ( kushiyaki ) Grilled Station  -  Yakitori   (or known as  Kushiyaki ) is very popular in Japan. Delicioux skewers made to order for just $2 each!!! I ordered a traditional  Yakitori Grilled Chicken  and  Grilled Chicken Skin  - both are my favourite! To my surprise  Mr F  loved both skewers very much and he didn’t mind the chicken skin at all! Next time I wish I could just come back for the skewers and a glass of  Japanese beer! For main courses I had the  Sashimi Don  and  Mr F  had the  Wagyu Fr

Food never disappoints here. Service is great too and always attentive and friendly. One little suggestion, don’t charge $2 for a tiny bit of mayonnaise. This isn’t a cheap or low end restaurant, price is above average, so it drives the experience that bit lower when you charge for small stuff like sauce or mayo.

Probably some of the best sushi I’ve had in a while! Only found out about @oishiisushibar last week but I’m glad I did! What we got: • Black Dragon ($16) • Spider Roll ($15) • Snake Roll ($15) • Salmon Sashimi ($19) • Soba in Bonito Konbu Soup ($12) • Tori Karaage - As an add-on for the soup ($3) We loved all 3 different sushi, but my favourite was probably the spider roll! The sushi was presented really nicely and quality was up there. Same goes for the sashimi - it was very fresh! The soba was a bit too soft but the chicken which we got on the side was really good! If you haven’t this place yet, you definitely should! Can’t wait to go again! 🙌
