Review Saowanee Thai Restaurant - Niddrie

Ali Abdo
Everything we had here was delicious. Service was great and quick. One of the better Thai we've had in a while. Will be back for sure.

The best Thai meal that I’ve ever had in Melbourne! Casual vibe and tasty food, both dishes that we asked for was incredible, Pad Thai Chicken and Massaman Beef Curry (this one I would like to try chicken or with sea food) with coconut rice. Super tasty, good portions (one more person could had dinner with us) and really good price. You must check.
Alan Lee (Chopper)
Staff were great, and atmosphere was good. Food came out quick after ordering and wa shot. Good portions for the price. Food was tasty and true to Thai restaurants. Green chicken curry had a strong coconut sauce that was good. Pad Thai was good also.
Ketchup Wannan
Fantastic little venue. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Very busy. Would strongly recommend you book in advance. The food was excellent. A lot of traditional flavours and options that showcased the region. Also a number of options to appease a more Western palate. A few things that they could have improved on such a more traditional drink options. Only had soft drinks, OJ, AJ and alcohol for cold drinks and Coffees/Tea/Hot Chocolate along with Green/Jasmine teas for hot drinks. That being said, the deserts are a must try. #2 is by far one of the best.
Darren Treloar
I have to change my review. Service was subpar. 25 min wait for a menu, then they blamed as because we didn't ask. The food was nothing like the ones I have posted last time. It has gone way down hill.
Tanya Relan
The best Thai restaurant I have ever had. Highly recommend.
Paul Ellul
Been going here for over 15 years. Never had a bad meal. The beef massamun, satay chicken skewers and Moo Yang are fantastic. Kids love the thai green curry as well. The owners and staff have always been polite and serviced us well.
Anton Cuschieri
A great little venue for a nice dinner. Pad Thai was excellent, best I've had in a while the prawns were cooked perfectly. We got the fish cakes aswell which were also good but very oily. Other than that I can recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Eat Good Melbourne
We normally over order when it comes to Thai food so I stuck to the basics. We had:
Tom yum soup - lots of flavour
Red curry - a little runny for my liking but great flavour and generous ingredients
Kee mao noodles - loved this so much! Strong basil flavour and wok charred taste!

The restaurant is super busy but staff are accommodating and attentive. It was easy to get someone’s attention and the wait times aren’t long at all. Will definitely be back!

Side note: I ordered mild for all dishes to test the waters and they weren’t spicy at all so if you love spice go for hot or extra hot!

This is our local Thai restaurant and we absolutely love it!! We have tried most of the menu now and there hasn’t been a dish we haven’t enjoyed.

Best Thai food going round. The Red Curry, Fried Rice and Pad Thai are all Micky Mouse. Massive serving sizes, great flavour and friendly service!!
Michael Mawal
Absolutely love this place, best thai food in the area by far. The Green curry and the beef with garlic amd pepper are too die for. And the satay chicken, say no more its ordered every time
Samson Isaac
The food was decent for the area but I've seen better. I'd come back and try other dishes but wouldn't keep it as my go to.

Wanted an extra egg ontop for my koa pad(chicken fried rice), they wouldn't allow it even though that's how it's served in Thailand.

It's really crowded too. The service for seating and ordering took way to long. Had to grab their attention a few times for them to take my order.
Kfoods
I actually really enjoy the food here, however the service tonight was ridiculous. Whilst it is busy the half an hour wait we were told has turned into one hour and no indication of when our food will be here... won’t bother next time
This place is always packed every time I visit. The stir fry dishes are yummy and the service is good aS well. The neighbourhood Thai restaurant vibes
Nikki
The food was below average. The satay sauce was straight out of a bucket, the fish cakes were frozen catered products which tasted like rubber and the spring rolls had no flavour. Unfortunately there was nothing authentic or even home made. The service however was good.
Hazzag G
Awesome food and service was good. The decor is very unassuming with their gold and green which is why they are so unique I guess. Very attentive with all our needs and explained the dishes without hesitation. The best part was the home made coconut ice-cream which is to die for!
Bree
Went here for the first time a couple of nights ago with a group and we all LOVED it!! The service was excellent and we didn’t have to wait long for our food. The flavour was amazingly delicious, I can’t fault it one bit!! A must go to Thai restaurant and I can’t wait to be back :)
Foodie Duo
Great food and even better service
Thai in Australia is usually aussiefied but this food was amazingly good and authentic
Servers were so nice and chef came out to check on dining room
Vegemite Girl
Excellent service that I could not fault. Cold water and glasses upon arrival. Well priced menu. Love the acrid green surrounds. My comparison dish is the lamb GAI and roti. Excellent. Will return.
Kevin & Emily
Emily and most of our family that we attended this restaurant agree that this is one of the best Thai they have ever had in Melbourne! Whilst I think that is open for debate, what is undisputed is just how full of flavour and quality the food we had was.

Today we ordered the classic beef Pad Thai, chicken fried rice, an entire snapper and a sweet and sour chicken dish. The best personally for me, was the Pad Thai which definitely was better than most pad Thais I have had. Soft, flavourful and full of an aromatic taste that simply is unmatched for such a common dish in this cuisine. The fried rice was also different from most we have had, tasting exceptionally better than Vietnamese and similar varieties. The sweet and sour chicken dish also had a very delicious sauce to it, with equally tender chicken. The snapper was made with hardly any bones, tasting fresh and tender, so much so that people who usually don't like fish, actually asked for more!

Overall a very delightful experience at Saowanee Thai offering some of the best Thai food in Melbourne. Delicious food, great service and an overall memorable restaurant that should be recommended to all!

Food: 4.5/5
Service: 4/5
Ambience: 3.5/5
Value: 4.5/5

Overall: 4/5

My favourite Thai in Australia. I am a regular here and have never been disappointed. The fitout is hideous but that's part of the charm. Very reasonably priced too.
Jade Milne Parry
Real tasty food, especially there Thai red Curry & Chicken fried rice. Very filling . Affordable prices. Generally very busy + staff are lovely.

One of my favorite Thai places in the northern suburbs! Super delicious and the waiters are all super nice! This place is up there with the best!
Linda
Didn’t know what to expect when I arrived, the Thai food here was amazing! Ordered the Chicken pad Thai and Yellow pork curry and roti. One of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been to in Melbourne, highly recommend to come out and check out this hidden gem 😊👍🏾

The menu on Zomato is old. The prices are ~ $2-$5 above those listed in Zomato. The thing that upset me the most about the restaurant is that they have no Kids menu. ME and my husband love spicy food but my 5 yr old kid can't handle it. So spoke to the waitress and the manager to see if they could serve us a kid meal and they refused. They advised me to order one non spicy dish for my kid which we did. We ordered a Green Curry, Pad Se-Ew and Pad Thai noodles among 3 adults and a kid. We enjoyed the Green Curry and Pad Se-Ew. We ordered the Pad Thai for my son who hardly had two bites. It just frustrates me that I had pay for a whole adult dish for my 5 yr old son. It was just too sweet for our liking to enjoy.

Even though the food and service was good, I'm rating it low because of adamant attitude on the kids menu. Also the servings weren't generous like mentioned in some of the other reviews. The servings weren't small and I'm happy with the serving but its not generous as mentioned in some of the reviews.

Good authentic Thai food but not best without kids.
Heidi
The consistency of this place is amazing. We have been coming here for a few years both dining in and take-away! The food never disappoints. The staff are friendly and attentive.
Penea Xox
Went here and the service was fast , amazing food and just an enjoyable experience! The staff were also very friendly which is always a bonus . Although I do recommend making a booking as it does get busy very fast , it was quite noisy but I'm not mad or blaming them because it's not their fault ! Overall a great experience and would 100% recommend
Vicky
Food and service always incredible. Decor a little daggy, but doesn't change the top quality experience. A regular for us and we're not even local :-)
VwngF
A very nice place to eat out on a weeknight. Always busy, quick service. Food is hot and delicious. Could never go wrong with red or green hot curry and pad seeu!
Claudia L
My mum is a stones throw away but it took me almost 7 years to actually try the place. The interiors are an imposing lime green but the food is decent.
Gem
Your standard local Thai restaurant, friendly service and delicious food! The servings are generous and great for sharing dishes amongst a group.
Kirsten Chloe
Absolutely love Saowanee!!! The good is incredible and so fresh.
It has become my favourite place to eat. Prices are reasonable and service is amazing. Food cones out very quickly
I could seriously eat their food every night and be the happiest person on earth
George David Michaelides
Really great value and full of flavour Thai food!
- entree of coconut prawns was an ok starter
- the green curry was bursting with chill and coconut and tender fresh chicken
- rice was cooked to perfection no gluginess
- to top off the meal a banana fritter with ice cream was sweet and not too oily
- best local Thai in the area in my books
Marlene
I've been coming here for years now with family and every time the quality and taste of the food has been so good! The oldies, the kids and everyone in between has loved it, which is not easy to please all age groups ;). The veg stir fry's, green curry, roti & satay sauce and curry puffs are my favourites! (too hard to choose just one). I recently took a friend here who lives on the other side of town and she said it was the best Thai she's had! Ow and the service, it's been friendly and fast (with food) every time. Cop coon ca! :)
Maree Bagley
Love this place! It's the best Thai I've had in Melbourne. The tofu and vegetable pad see ew and pad Thai are delicious. My boyfriend loves the chicken Thai fried rice. The vegetable spring rolls are really small and not very good unfortunately.
Andrew Assaad
Awesome customer service. Quality of food is absolutely amazing. Can never fault this place. Always welcomed with happy staff and big smiles.
Red beef curry is a must try from this place!!
Tom Seaby
Amazing food and good prices with friendly service. Only thing that let's this place down is the serving sizes are a bit small and the decor is a bit drab.. But the food more than makes up for it.
Kiss And Eat Up
Despite their high ratings , I found the quality of their takeaway very below average. My pad Thai seemed like a hastily put together stir Fry of a few peices of veggies with a small portion of chicken thrown in. The noodles were quite thin and soft rather than on the chewy side and the dish seemed quite over cooked once all the other ingredients were squashed into the container. There was no distinct pad Thai sauce flavour in the noodles which was disappointing. Might be a better experience dining in.
Adele Edwards
Service here is always great, food comes out in a timely manner. Yellow curry is amazing! meat is good quality. lots of vegetarian options! takeaway is available too.
Fifi CAI
Really really disappointed.
1.The taste of food is below average. I will say the jasmine tea is the best dish.
2.The waitresses do not clearing the table after we finished dishes or fill up the tea pot.
I recommend Asian specially Thai people do not come. It is not authentic Thai.
Melbourneats
Best Thai food in Melbourne!! Been returning very often.
Recommend to get their satay chicken sticks (soft, juicy and tender)
Prawn crackers are really good!
Their Massaman and red curry is also the best one in Melbourne.
Only downside is rice should be included or unlimited as the dishes can be quite pricey.
Staff are friendly.
Other than that, my fav Thai restaurant in Melbourne!

Take anyone you want here because their Thai food is exquisite!

My family and I have been at this restaurant on many occasions. However this evenings experience was the worst dinning experience, I have ever experienced. My husband ordered a meal on the slightly hot side. His tolerance for hot food is very high. However, he really struggled with his meal as it was too hot and unbearable to eat. He simply made a comment at the end of the meal that his meal was difficult to eat, as it was very hot. As a result the owner came out to speak to my husband and was extremely defensive and told him that he should not of continued to eat the meal and publicly displayed his plate to other patrons, saying that he still ate most of the meal and embarrassing the both of us. She also publicly told everyone in the restaurant, that the waitress, that served us was in trouble. I have never been so disgusted, shocked and appalled by such poor service. We found it extremely difficult to communicate to the staff, as their English was limited. My husband and I are still shaken up by this terrible experience and will NEVER go back to this restaurant ever again.

Dont normally eat thai food but my friends wanted to have thai so we gave this place a try .We wanted steam fish but i was little disappointed that they only have fried fish on menu. The food here was nice but could have had more spices in it .The serving sizes are quite small.
Munch On Melbourne
in my opinion one of the better Thai restaurants in the area (there is nothing around Tullamarine/Broadmeadows/Roxburghpark) the décor is gaudy yet charming and the waitresses uniform is lovely, I want one. The food was mostly good, I need to return another time without my kids as everything needed to be dulled down in terms of spicyness. Dishes I thoroughly enjoyed was prawn tom yum, pad thai, pad se ew (thai version of char kway teow but in my opinion better) and Green curry chicken, the grilled pork dish was slightly dry and cold, would have been nicer with more fat and basted in a glaze and sizzling. service was prompt but noticed the extra special service was reserved for their regulars, not that it matters to me just an observation as I just want good food and decent service which I did get.
Melbourne Vegetarian
First visit and it was amazing!
Their curries (especially red curry) are to die for. They asked for how spicy do we like our curries, very thoughtful. We ask for extra spicy and it came out really really yum and absolutely the spicy kick we like.
We will come back for more !!

Dibbers
Serviceable but not spectacular. Was expecting a whole lot more after reading many glowing reviews. Meals were served quickly and service could not be faulted. But food lacked fresh flavours that you come to expect from Thai food. On the whole was bland. To many better options in the area - won't be back.
Belinda-Mary BumbleBee
Very busy so please book in advanced. However, they do a a fast takeaway service during peak times (15min wait)...the pad sew ew was delicious and i highly recommend the tom yum chicken soup (bursting with flavour).
Edit...came for dinner and promptly served. Very friendly and efficient service.

Favourite Thai. Curries are flavoursome and aromatic, and many other dishes we have tried so far were great. I recommend beef Massaman and Naur Aroy. This place is so crowded and busy that we prefer take away as you can't talk. Staff is always friendly.
Heidi
This place is great! Food tastes amazing.. The kids love it, we love it! Got to get in early as this place gets busy fast! Staff are friendly and attentive!
Sweet And Sour Fork
The Chicken Pad Kee Mao ($14.5) on the other hand was basically flawless. The glossy, elastic rice noodles were seasoned generously with a mouth-watering combination of Thai basil, fish sauce, and chilli. The accompanying vegetables were crisp and fresh, and there was plenty of chicken.

Have to be my favourite go to Thai restaurant. They never fail to satisfy and are just perfect every time you go there
Jeff
Oh my god did I die and go to Thailand heaven?
Because when I woke up and found myself in dis restaurant with my missus I could swear that I did.
I have never eaten such fully sick food in my life, and I've eaten a lot of food! Never spoken to such friendly people too
If you are looking for the best Thai restaurant in the world then you have found it.
If I could be Asian I would ask to be Thai because this food is the bees knees! Anyone who lives in Thailand needs to move house now because this is the real Thailand.
5 stars.

Beautiful, amazing, authentic! Maybe the food is ok but after going there with my Autistic son who is 16yr old and asking for two single tables as my son does not like to eat with people in a restaurant and the restaurant only having 20 people in it and only about 2 reserved tables in the restaurant . I LEFT . IT was only the fact that they did not want to clean two tables. Better go eat next door at the pizza place. How not to make money THAI STYLE

Second visit of September 2016:
Still very good but, not as awesome as the last time...especially as we drove an hour from the South Eastern suburbs.

-------

Stopped for dinner at Saowanee Thai on the way back from a road trip, although it's not exactly on the way home. It was a marvellous discovery, so glad we made the detour. Trying out new Thai restaurants is one of our favourite pastimes, and very few stand out. Saowanee is very vegetarian friendly, which is a big plus in itself...the veg dishes are labeled 'vegetarian' and not just 'vegetable' and also priced lower than the meat dishes, which is fairer than clubbing into a single price for veg/chicken/beef like many restaurants do. The food itself was amazing in flavours, freshness and serving size. Our red curry arrived with a tea light below the pot, that helps it stay warm through the meal. The basil stir fry was well balanced, not doused in dark soya sauce like many other places. Really enjoyed the stir fried flat rice noodles. Service is non-intrusive in the oriental way, and the place is clean. 3 excellent dishes and rice for a family set us back by $55 which is great value for one of the best Thai we've had in Australia. Thumbs up too for the variety of vegetarian dishes. I'd love to come back here although I live in the South Eastern suburbs.
Cheese Toastie
Great food, amazing flavours and extremely friendly staff. Never had a bad meal here and such good prices too for really well proportioned meals.

Have been going here for years, the food is always delish! Service can vary depending on the day and time you eat however overall it is a great place with awesome food :)
Hannah
At first I didn't like it that much but the food is really good. Would stay away from appetisers as are quite small and expensive. Curries are good and I always get the green curry.

There are alot of good thai restaraunts in the area, but the food here may just about be the best of them all. Have been hefe several times and have always been mighty impressed with both the food and service
Chrisj911
Awesome!. Order some curry puffs and roti bread for entree, then fried rice and curry for main and you won't be disappointed, best i've had and i've been to thailand 6 times. Only downside is their beef isn't great, usually a little tough for my liking.
Gulsah_t
Best Thai I have ever had.

Been dining at this restaurant for years. Most delicious massaman curry and coconut rice!!!!

Must Try. Restaurant doesn't look to flashy but don't let that deter you from the taste of the food.

Yummy

We'll be back for more!. My boyfriend and I dined here Saturday night. Smaller restaurant and older décor but this was all easily overlooked because the food and the service was amazing!

We started our meal with the satay chicken skewers. These came out on a little platter with slices of orange and pineapple, which was a refreshing touch. We then had the highly recommended Pad Thai and also the Satay Chicken. Although we both ordered a separate main, both came out in large serving dishes and were placed in the centre of the table. This was a genius, as we happily shared two very tasty dishes.
We also order the Thai Naan bread with the peanut satay dipping sauce. Just the right amount and the satay sauce was addictive!
We were aiming to try the coconut ice cream and with the battered pineapple or banana for dessert, but just couldn't fit it in! We do love trying new restaurants all the time, but will happily return very soon!

Staff were also very accommodating with my cashew allergy. The restaurant does get busy and very loud, but this didn't bother us.
Only downside of the evening was being seated next to the main walk way. There were a lot of people stopping in to collect take away, so the constant traffic directly beside us, was a little distracting.
Haichem
Reliably tasty. Good quality food, always arrives quickly, very friendly staff
Ruby Ho
Always reliable and tasty. Really enjoy going here. It's often very busy on a Friday or Saturday night, so always advise a booking. But the food is satisfyingly tasty, with good portion sizes and enough protein in each meal - thankfully not padded out with oodles of celery or bok choi like other places. The staff are great, they are always relaxed and welcoming, and never balk at packing up any leftovers and allowing you to take home. Hallelujah! Also, no minimum charge here, which is great for small eaters or when children are present... So much better than other Asian restaurants in the area which enforce this kind of stupidity. Always a great meal.
Reetpetite76
Wonderful, amazing food, great customer service!!. By far my favourite restaurant.
The food is always amazing and so is the customer service.
A wonderful experience every time I go! - twice a week :)
Mussamun is my absolute faveourite followed by Pad see-ew and the yellow curry!!
You must try it - you won't regret it!!!
Elbs65
Saowanee Thai - very good. Visited for my birthday and arrived without a booking and were welcomed and taken to a table with no delay (although the place was quite packed). Service fab and food delicious. Restaurant busy and take away orders were constant. Good atmosphere. Will return for sure.

Festivus - You Like Thai I like shirt !. I love Thai and this is one of the better Thai spots
Coconut rice is the best around and red curry yes please
All entre’s delightful
Staff friendly
All_You_Can_Eat
Love it, has never failed us. Yes agree a bit old fashion but I don't go there for the vista; I go for the food.
Thai is a passion for my family and I, and we have been eating Saowanee Thai for many years now.
Now days we do take away as the children are too small to sit still long enough for us to eat there.
Compulsory for us are the green curry with chicken & red curry with beef, pad Thai, roti & coconut rice plus we usual pick a random item and to date we have never been disappointed.
TheDinnerAficionado
Excellent on a good day. I love the green chicken curry (on the good days). I find this place lacks consistency.
Janelle_08
Green curry was curdled on the top. Green beans had cold water burst out when i bit into them (not fresh veg still frozen) tom yum soup was like a packet flavouring mixed with water (it was so watered down it looked almost clear) the beef basil stir fry was very tough and didnt have enough sauce..again it was watered down and the meat obviously wasnt marinated in the sauce either. Wouldnt go back iv had much better thai!
Moburnelovely
How could this place survive?. The menu is shockingly old-fashioned!! I ordered satay chicken and it tasted like old chickens from the 1990s. Plus, peanut sauce was to syrupy.

Their grilled chicken were too old and salty for me and we didn't really enjoy it at all. Green curry was alright but it tasted like something from 'Mae Ploy' can (the Thai chilly paste brand which we can buy from Coles).
Nigel Stewart
Delicious food. very authentic and reasonably priced. Need bigger rice portions
Anthony
Great quality food every time!
Xylophone
The best!. The best Thai i've had in Niddrie area. Prices are good considering you get a lot of meat and the sauces are delish! The satay sauce has a bit of a kick, well worth it. The staff are very good too, very friendly. Definitely recommend!
M M
Great service, delicious food, great value for money. One of the best Thai restaurants i have been to. Highly recommended!
Judy
Had dinner there few nights ago, group of 6. Ordered a feast of yummy food. The curries were great. Great service, prompt food delivery and overall it was good tasty food. I would most certainly return for a meal. 7/10
Sarah
Best Thai in Essendon. This is the best Thai in Essendon. Staff are super friendly and food is great. Will never go anywhere else in Essendon.
Samarei
Not a cheap eat. Not sure why this is in the cheap eats section.
We had the satay chicken entree. Ok, nothing to write home about.
I had penang beef. While the flavours were great, the beef was chewy as a boot and I couldn't get past that.
My partner had the pad thai. Average. Not worth the cost. Have had better for cheaper.
Worth a try but I wouldn't go back there, we'll try somewhere else.
Mirna Salib Saad
Food was OK. I came here with my husband after he and so many others had bragged about how amazing the food was. I ordered the satay chicken as an entree. it was fine, nothing to rave about. My concern was that the chicken was on the brink of being undercooked, but the satay sauce was quite delicious. For main I ordered the mango chicken which was battered and deep fried. It would've been an amazing dish had the chicken not been overwhelmed by the excessive dough. I would return again just to give it another go, but our bill came to almost $100 just for the 2 of us which I thought was a little overpriced. The staff were lovely, friendly and attentive even though the place was packed out with diners.
J Macalaca
Really Green Thai. My friends & I have been going here for years. The service is always friendly and the food delicious. I've never had a bad experience. My favourite is the Roti bread with peanut sauce and the Chicken Massaman Curry. YUMMY & reasonably priced!
Jay Klein
Waste of money. Just been there, fully waste of money

If you wanna try good thai food, go Krabi Thai or Khao san Road.

Poor food quality and services.

Will never go there again.

Can't believe we've waited so long to visit this restaurant..... It was worth the wait. Delicious food & superb service. Cannot ask for anything more. Will definitely become one of our local faves!
Steph
I love this place! Very friendly service and the food tastes amazing! Definitely recommend this place to anyone! The meat in the curries is so tender and the flavours definitely stand out in the meals!
Rebecca Tasevski
Great Food, service very quick & hassle free. Love the Satay Chicken, yummmmmooooooo.
Frenchies Wife
So-So. Service was great. Food very average. My beef in the stir fry was extremely dry and chewy. My friend said hers tasted like some thing her mum would cook! Not very authentic. Couldn't alter the meals at all. One member at our table requested omitting an ingredient (a protein) and replacing with another protein. But we were quickly told, the menu is as is.. Ok if after nothing special.
Pmitch3
Saowanee - Great food and service. You know how good a restaurant is by the amount of people eating there. Well the night we went (3/11/12) the restaurant was booked out.

The food was delicious especially the Pad Thai. Service was first rate and very quick. The staff are very friendly. Overall a great restaurant with great atmosphere. I will definitely visit again!
Yummyfeast_
I've been going to this place for 10+ years. Amazing amazing Thai food! Friendly service and reasonable prices. Love the curry puffs and gaeng panang curry and the coconut rice is to die for! Yum yum yum!
Mjloco
So-so saowanee. Food is definitely above average. But you know somethings up when you order 6 spring rolls and one of them has no filling. We swallowed our pride (and laughter) and asked for a "filled" one, and we got one single spring roll delivered to us 15 minutes later. I thought maybe they'd chuck us a free one in for the trouble, but evidently not. We love thai and japanese food but found communication with wait staff here ABNORMALLY difficult... maybe best avoided if you have allergies.
Matt Robertson
Best tasting laxative I've ever had! This place is a bit hit or miss. Not too bad overall if you order off the menu rather than getting a banquet.
Bally
Best Thai food, I have tasted the veggies in the stir fry a cooked to perfection and the roti is fantastic.
CDee
Ordered take away from here tonight. Green curry, beef panang curry, sweet & sour prawn and pad Thai. Biggest waste of $60 ever. If you think this place is amazing Thai you need to take a short trip to Khao San Road. It doesn't even compare! Don't waste your time or money people!
Cinta1
A lovely evening out. Had a catch-up with a couple of friends here the other night. Rather noisy, so not the BEST place if you want meaningful discussion or are on a date, but staff are friendly, food is wonderful!
Must say the highlight was definitely the Green Chicken Curry - best I have ever tasted!!!!
Gabby
My favourite restaurant. Whenever I crave Thai, this is where I come. The meals are delicious and prepared in just enough time and the service is great. The staff are very friendly and I love the cosy feel of the place. I also get takeaway from here and its so convenient because straight after I make the order, I'll get in the car and by the time I'm there its ready to go. Its simple, affordable and satisfying, what more do you need!
Rothy
In and out. Smallish joint, decor nothing fancy, 'traditional' white paper table mat/cloths.

Food is 'A' grade, not on the big side of servings however but the price is justified.

green chicken curry, red beef curry, pad thai all pretty authentic Thai.
didn't care much for service, not that it was bad but i was there to order and eat. simple.
Chris
Had the Massamun curry with chicken, was awesome. Also at our table was chicken cashew pad little disappointing. Roti bread was really good, everyone generally enjoyed meal. Good ambience but Decor was not great but food made up for it.
Nathan
Great flavours however food is very oily
Mell
Best thai in the area! And reasonably priced!!!
Jessica
BEST Thai ever. Curries are delish, best I have had outside if thailand.
Elisa
Good local Thai. Enjoyed the food, lots of it!

YUM..

Pretty average for the price! Don't bother!

We're lucky enough to have a heap of good Thai restaurants in our local area. I'm pleased to say that Saowanee Thai is no exception.
JayJay
Great food!. I love this place! I always book this restaurant when I feel like Thai food and I have never been dissappointed! Always yummy and service is fine too but it gets very busy on weekends so book in advance for a Saturday nite!

Average. Wasn't particularly bad.
Pad Taly , not enough seafood.
Fish cakes rubbery.
Pad Thai was a tad greasy.
Plus side , vegetarian spring rolls were great.
All in all average however better Thai options at Herbs and Spices with Krabi second choice.

FANTASTIC!! One of my favourite restaurants! I have gone there every year for my bday for the last 4 years. We all love it!

Looks nice - friendly staff but food very poor - spicy rice with prawns was greasy and couldn't eat much - soup (not Tom yum) was good but everything else poor. Expensive for what we ate - very dissapointing.
