My friend and I ate here recently, at first I was a little nervous as the tables were so dirty when we walked in, dirty plates and food on tables.
There was only 1 waitress so no doubt they were understaffed. I am actually happy to have not walked out as the food was so good! We shared the tempura prawn roll which fresh and I loved the crispy prawn. We also shared the tori don, this was such a delish dish! There was a perfect amount of chicken and the sauce was very yummy.
I would happily return.
Had the spicy salmon roll, chicken wings and kastu curry don. All food was delicious, fairly priced and polite service staff. Decor is a bit outdated, could do with a revamp but all in all was a great meal
Absolutely loved the food here! Loved every dish we ordered here (and we ordered a lot!). The friendly staff made the experience even better. Definitely, highly recommend this place!

Good traditional Japanese restaurant. The sashimi is as good as any restaurant in Melbourne. I enjoyed the wings. Overall what you expect from you local Japanese
Hyakumi Japanese Restaurant gives off a quick, easy and affordable feel from the street. Don't judge a book by its cover, the inside gives off a much different experience. Authentic Japanese cuisine is served and it tastes great! In terms of value however, you definitely wouldn't say you get 'bang for your buck.' I think if the restaurant is charging a considerable amount for their food, the internal decor and furnishings need to be up to scratch!

Had to wait a little longer than average for our meals but otherwise amazing Japanese! Fresh fish and sushi, beautiful vegetarian bento and nice Japanese beer!
Hands down the best Japanese restaurant in the district. Great prices. Always give big servings. The customer service is always outstanding. Have been to almost every other Japanese restaurant in the area chiba, tookiya,Yokoso izakaya ect... Hyakumi is the best on all accounts!
Great food, excellent service, not over priced. My favourite Japanese place and recommend it to everyone. I go there weekly and will continue to return every time. The main waitress, Leanne, is lovely and always takes care of us.
For good quality dine in or take away Japanese food this place is fantastic. The decor could do with a make over but it is better priced and much nicer food than Tookaiya. Always friendly staff.
the interior of the restaurant was well designed and very spacious. there was an authentic feel to it. the portions were big and definitely very tasty.
when you are ordering for takeaway, make sure to have the fried food in an open container so it does not steam and become soggy

Tried this place on a whim and at the last minute I even managed to reserve a table for a party of 8. Staff are very nice and friendly and food is excellent value for money.
The portion sizes are fantastic and the set menu (banquet) options are really great value and offer you the chance to try a variety of the foods available. A few of us ordered individual items and can safely say that the portion sizes provided within the banquet are on par with individual orders.
Excellent Japanese restaurant, will definitely have to come back in the future!!

We normally eat Japanese at Tookayia up the road but last night gave this place a try and I have to say both are equally as good.
Food is genuine to what is sold in Japan. The restaurant is more light filled and the service is probably more friendly than their neighbour up the road.
The best Japanese on Keilor Road. Always fresh and tasty food, good service and reasonably priced. Popped in for lunch recently and the Bento Box (Deluxe) was so good I returned the next day!
So I have officially found the best Japanese and boy am I happy. This place looks nice enough from the outside but you wouldn't expect the food to be so traditional and beautiful. Sensational I would highly recommend.
After trying most of the other Japanese restaurants in the area i have to say this one is my favourite. They are always friendly and always try to accommodate you even if you dont have a booking - unlike others in nearby suburbs.
The food is all delicious and great fresh fish. The banquets are always our favourite as its good value and you get a good selection of food. I will always come back.
We went on Saturday night and much preferred it to Tookaiya. The service is lovely and the staff very friendly, and whilst it was very busy it is not as noisy so easy to enjoy the meal and chat at the same time and the food came promptly. We had 2 lots of the inside out rolls, spicy salmon and prawn and both were delicious. The gyoza, harumaki and croquettes were all very much enjoyed. For mains we shared a seafood teppanyaki, tonkatsu, yakizakana and yaki meshi and they were all yummy except next time we would order the vegetarian yaki meshi as we asked for the seafood and it was ruined by the seafood extender they put in it, it would have been perfect with just the vegetables, prawns and calamari. All in all a very enjoyable meal we will be sure to be back.
Very impressed with Hyakumi! The best Miso I have ever had. All four people at our table were very happy with dinner. Restaurant became busy and loud but that's expected of a popular restaurant on a Saturday night. Great service. Bento box, harumaki & gyoza were all terrific. Thank you for a fantastic dinner.
Their sashimi is amongst the freshest I have had in Melbourne and has been of the highest quality every time I have visited...
Went there for dinner last Tues. Great service and food were so tasty!!! Gyoza was the best! Especially the sauce came with! Will be sure back next time!
I'm no Japanese cuisine expert, but the food and service in this restaurant made me think I wanted to come back, even before i had finished my meal. We had two entrées, Gyoza and Takoyaki, both had six pieces, more than enough and were tasty. For main we had the Tempura and Bento, both dishes where great in taste and quantity. We shared a small warmed house Sake and it was very nice, I didn't expect it to be that good for a house Sake!
Overall it was a very nice Japanese experience and the price was very reasonable. Looking forward to going back to try more dishes.
Faultless. Cannot fault this place - no matter what your dietary requirements are, they are always friendly and accommodating which is a huge relief for me! I've tried the sushi boat and the sizzling seafood on rice and both are full of great flavours.
Yummo. Love my Japanese food and went there for dinner with friends. Great service, fresh sushi and sashimi. Beef tataki was the best I have had in a long time, so fresh and tasty. Duck Temaki was super tasty and so fresh. Price is on par with other Japanese places. Restaurant is big so seating is set up in a way you don't feel like you are eating with strangers at the next table.
Will be going back for my Japanese food fix for sure.

My husband and toddler have come to hayakumi a few times and have not been disappointed by the food at all. We generally have a range of entrees like tempura and gyoza and soup. mains are good and decent size also. Everything is tasty and fresh.They are attentive with service and accommodating to us diners with a busy toddler(high chair) Have been able to sneak in without a booking once but was hurried out as there were other bookings(peak time) so need to book in advance. They do get a bit busy and have forgotten a couple of times our dessert, which can be forgiven. We will be back.
My new Japanese restaurant. As locals we have always gone to the other Japanese restaurant (tookaiya) and have always found the head waiter rude. The reason we tried Hyakumi was because the other restaurant found it too hard to separate one table of 6 empty joined tables as it would confuse his numbers. We left extremely disappointed and embarrassed and my husband suggested Hyakumi. I can honestly say the food is much more fresh, authentic and generous servings. Staff are lovely and as we eat Japanese at least once a week the food is always at a high standard. I'm happy to recommend this restaurant and hope they continue to serve our community. Glad we ended up there.
Amazing jap!. Hands down, the best local Japanese restaurant, in niddrie. The service is amazing - staff are really friendly, helpful and genuine. The food also amazing - flavoursome, good quality Japanese cuisine. As per usual, I get the bento box (what I usually order at which ever Japanese restaurant I go to) and all the elements in the bento are great! Lovers of Japanese cuisine, living local to this area, this is the place to go (forget the inadequate competitors!)
Fresh Fresh. Hyakumi you are officially my favourite restaurant close to my place. My wife and little boy (15mths) love it. The greatest asset is the freshness of the food, love all your sashimi.The soft shell crab is a rippa too.

I went here for dinner on Saturday with my boyfriend and will definately be returning. I have a lot of food intolerances and the lovely lady who served us was more than accommodating, altering the menu to create something I could eat, then returning a number of times to clarify if infredients were ok and asking how our meal was. The food, service and atmosphere were all great. It's an inviting little restaurant and the staff were all extremely friendly.

We all decided to try something completely different from what we may normally order and we weren't disappointed. This is a casual eatery with value for money. Loved it!. I love this place! I have been here twice now since it opened afew months ago and have ordered banquets both times as they offer great variety and is fantastic value! They were very accomodating and catered for my friends needs as shes allergic to shellfish. They also realise that you're a paying customer and dont try to rush you out when they're busy (which I found to be a problem with another Japanese restaurant up the road).Would definately recommend this place for anyone wanting to try Japanese!

Yay for GOOD Japanese on Keilor Road!. SO glad at that a GOOD Japanese restaurant (as Tookaiya, as I've written, is crapola) has opened up in the area! Been here twice now and enjoyed the sashimi, steak and selected other sushi. Service is always friendly and punctual. Planning our next visit very soon!

Tasty pan fried dumplings and sushi. Mains of chicken and beef teriyaki were large serves, fresh and delicious. Quick service. Will definetly return.
Was looking forward to another Japanese place in Keilor rd and was not disappointed! We had both the regular and seafood bento boxes, both were massive serves and really tasty! Will go again :)

I consider myself very demanding with food quality specially seafood, but this place is definitely too good. Became my favourite Japanese restaurant from the first time I came here, actually from a review saying “ best sashimi ever “, I came to try and got in love 🥰🥰🥰 1.000% recommended.
Beautiful food, very reasonable prices and excellent service. Only gave 4 stars because the decor is rather dark and gloomy... otherwise very satisfying. Will go again soon.
This is our family favorite for Japanese. Always fresh and never disappoints. We have little kids and they love the gyoza and cucumber maki rolls. Restaurant is unpretentious and consistently serves good quality food for a good price.
