Review Wasabi Restaurant & Bar - Noosa

Josh Vergeer
A really nice venue, the views are really nice, we preferred getting there for a 5pm dinner so you have some light before the sun sets. We opted for the Kyara (might be incorrectly spelled) which is the longer menu. The food overall was really good with a couple of standout dishes, however, a couple of dishes were just "okay" for us. Overall a very nice experience with some excellent wines available and the staff were all lovely and helpful.

I rarely give one star ratings but this one deserves it 100%. We went for a special occasion to this place knowing that it was expensive which in itself is a personal choice. The food that we got was bland, dry, with tiny portions and hardly had any resemblance to Japanese food. It was all cold food except for one item and they didn’t really know whether it was goose or pork. The staff explained robotically to us what it was without any real engagement whatsoever. We took the most expensive menu and drink arrangements thinking that it would be great. We were so wrong as we paid for two people $525 and only got six half glasses with drinks under which was a cider and a vermouth! It didn’t compliment the food at all. Ok, you can have an experimental menu and setup but this was just terrible quality, ambiance and the food isn’t even worth the menu it is written on. All the five star reviews must have never been anywhere else. The interior isn’t Japanese as some say and the windows with the great view were filthy. Wasabi implicates spicy food in a Japanese way but there was no Wasabi, no soy sauce and to come to full closure with this, it was a utter disaster so save yourself the trouble and go next door to Ricky’s.

Dining experience here is just amazing! Well created fusion food keeping the roots of good fine Japanese roots mixed with trending cuisine. The stag is very attentive and willing to make good recommendations and explanations! Decent wine and sake list!

Wasabi is an elegant restaurant. The perfect place to celebrate an anniversary, or any intimate moment with loved ones. Their wine list is extensive and the food delicious. Al l the Wasabi staff are friendly and helpful.

We love this restaurant. Each time we have been the food has been different and exciting. The use of Australian and local ingredients Highlights the chiefs dedication to exceptional food. Would highly recommend the omekase menu as the kitchen and staff have never sent anything short of delicious! The staff were attentive but not intrusive and were very careful of my unusual dietary allergies (tomato, coconut and almonds) clarifying and then ensuing that I was free to enjoy the dishes as they came. An expensive meal but exceptional value for money.

Beautiful setting and menu. Enjoyed the long menu for 165$ which had 9 courses, some with multiple dishes within them. Ask for a table by the window.

Top notch customer service and excellent food. It was for our first year wedding anniversary and they gave us a beautiful handwritten card. The drink options matching with each meal course were one of the best experiences. Definitely recommend for special memory!.

Absolutely fantastic dinning experience. My wife and I had a lovely evening here for our anniversary. The set menu comes in a few options and if you choose so can be accompanied by matched wine with each course. This is my new favourite in Noosa.

We as a family went in 2016. There was an a la carte menu. My daughter 4 yrs old had rice and miso soup. It was a fantastic time. Happy to spend $300. I loved the place so we went back yesterday. This time a la carte menu is 4 set course. The restaurant offer to make sushi for my daughter now 6 years old. So we asked avocado rolls and tuna nigiri sushi. But the tuna nigiri was so small. same size as our set menu and just entree size. Super tiny rice so not enough food for 6 years old kid!! Table staff offered another plate. We order another avocado roll. Finally cost, avocado roll was $11 x 2 plates. The super tiny small tuna sushi was $31!! For 6 years old kids total $53. Compare to our $90 set menu, I can say unfair to the value of the dish. I complain but the table staff said they did special to made. The sushi is their size, their correct price. We thought 2nd avocado roll was complimentary for small portion of sushi. But all was charged for. Yes, we know there is no kids menu but we had fantastic time first visit. But No more visits. If they treat customers with children like this, PLEASE write, No children policy. It definitely better for parents. I ate sushi many different places in Australia and Japan. But I never ever seen such a super expensive tuna nigiri sushi $31....................

The finest meal I have ever had in Australia. If you enjoy this kind of food, get on a plane and stay in one of the most gorgeous, pristine nooks in all of Australia. When you combine an educated palate with a love of the beach and ocean culture of this amazing little town (and throw in some great shopping, surfing, or at least surfERS), there are few places in the world I would recommend higher than than Noosa, and this must be its best restaurant. I went to Dinner by Heston Blumenthal (I am a destination diner) and I bet the dishwashers at Wasabi eat better than the guests at Dinner. Absolutely amazing. I think my eyes were closed half of the time- the flavor combinations were just genius. If Einstein had a restaurant, this would be it.

Avoid this place at all costs. After waiting for a long time to actually get in. I have to say I was extremely disappointed. You can get better Japanese food at sushi ya-man for a fraction of the cost. To top it off we get a "COCKROACH" in our final meal of the degustation. Followed by no apology to a poor apology from the staff and shoving a replacement meal back at us. After rejecting the meal we get the bill handed to us with no compensation and no sincere apology from management. With a 15% surcharge I might add. We then had to suggest what we thought was suitable as it wasn't coming from the wasabi management. I would expect this from Macdonalds whilst dealing with teenagers. Not a fine dining restaurant for a $500 bill. The first offer was 2 complimentary cocktails taken off the bill. Such a piss take. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere that takes pride in the customer. We got a shit load of crappy excuses and the use of a lady falling over to distract from our Situation. Could write a lot more but this place just isn't worth it. Pissed off to say the least.

Not returning!<br/>We had a table of 9 and after waiting for our table despite having a booking we were told that we had to do the set menu, something that we were not told when booking. <br/>The meals took far too long and when the 1st course finally arrived they had miscounted the numbers on our table and were one meal short. <br/>Another lengthy wait for the main course and the mains of 2 of the people at the table were wrong. The waitress then told us that we had told her the wrong thing and that she was right... unlikely given it had happened to 2 separate people at the table, myself being one. She had also read my selection back to me at the time of ordering so I was more than sure that my order was correct and that we were not the problem in this equation. Either way, you never blame it on the customer. She then proceeded with a sop story of being overworked at the restaurant and not having eaten dinner... an issue that should not be communicated to the customer. <br/>We were told that we had to eat the incorrect dish or wait 25mins for a new main! After the lengthy wait for our main we were not going to wait another 25mins for the one we actually ordered. <br/>This was all capped off with the fact that they did not offer any reimbursement for the wrong meals or a complimentary dish. We were also charged a 6% service fee despite the service being nothing short of sh*t

Not deserve. Soooo sleepy for waiting<br/>No highlight, long waiting time for cuisine (more than 2.5hours). Soba is very normal, seafood not fresh enough.<br/>Fresh wasabi is the only thing deserve to appreciate. Never back here.
Bridget
Lovely quiet & intimate restaurant. Book early to sit close to the water! The staff happily space your courses out & there’s no later sitting which allows you to enjoy your meal. <br/>We had the 9 course which was absolutely fabulous. Nice space between the courses which provided a relaxed night. We also had the matching drinks- wouldn’t recommend the matching drinks if you’re not a huge fan of sake (which I’m not). <br/>9 course menu is very wide and offers some beautiful seafood & interesting flavours. <br/>Big price tag but worth it for a special occasion & a lovely evening. Disappointing having to pay an extra $27 each for the beef- beef was divine but very expensive for 50g each.
Nikita French
We booked Wasabi based on a recommendation from a friend. I was shocked to see this restaurant only have a 3.7/5 review! Majority of the bad reviews are based around not being family friendly or too expensive - but they clearly say on their website food can't be altered for kids (no kids menu), and, you don't go to a place like this to be cost effective! So I still had high hopes for our experience... <br/><br/>It did not disappoint!! We ordered the 7 course degustation which started out with about 4 tasters which were divine! The food is beautifully presented, and fresh produce treated with care (that they grow or source locally). We were full by the end of it, and finished off with a lovely selection of tea. <br/><br/>What adds to this restaurant is their location, and if you can, ask for a window seat! <br/><br/>We will be back!

Definitely left feeling robbed after a $750 bill. Payed for the 9 coarse chef special and seriously was not even close to refine food. Very disappointed and would not recommend friends and family to try. Staff were awesome FYI but nothing authentic about this Australian dinning with Japanese menu. <br/>
Dino Lo
nice experience, a menu very carefully put together. a little disappointing that you need to pay so much extra for beef. each dish was amazing. not suitable for children.
Lucy Wells
Wow! did the 4 course menu (adding oysters... always add oysters) and it was so delightful.  The courses were beautifully presented and prepared, with such creative and interesting flavour combinations.  the service was thoughtful and helpful without being intrusive.  We also enjoyed some lovely wines recommended by the sommelier. Every detail was attended to, from the art on the walls, the tatami seating to the beautiful cutlery and plates.  would recommend - and hope to visit again!
Sarah
Had the omekase menu and enjoyed the experience! Beautifully presented food, complex flavors, innovative, good balance, attention to detail with different textures, using incredible ingredients and fresh produce. The service was good, waiter and waitresses were very attentive. Loved the whole experience! See pictures below

Not even going to bother looking for points to take away from wasabi. It was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Enjoyed a 9 course dego with my wife while sitting at a lovely window table. The waiter was efficient and knowledgeable and made the night a beautiful ballet of eating and entertainment. Favourite dishes were the heirloom carrot dish and the kingfish sashimi. Each dish was delicate and balanced perfectly with just the right amount of umami for each piece of food. It's expensive, but get there!

You cannot fault this amazing tastebud sensation of a restaurant<br/>Ambience stays true to the culture of Japan with the added bonus of a stunning Noosa sunset over the river<br/>Every mouthful is an explosion of flavour yet delicate and petite<br/>Elegantly presented and masterminded in creation<br/>
Food Glorious Food
It was a last minute decision to take the plunge and dine like royalty. We booked on Thursday morning for Friday lunch. I asked for a table with a view, and I think if you are looking for a view, go for lunch and not dinner. The weather plays a big part in the whole experience. We were sitting right at the edge where we were able to open the louvres and allow the breeze to come through. It was almost surreal. The restaurant itself was very well decorated and fitted out. It even comes with the traditional floor setting which would be a great experience. The choice of music was a little odd. Jazz music all afternoon. I was imagining traditional Japanese music and would believe that it would be more appropriate. <br/>The food, I am not sure how to write a review without carrying on forever. We selected the 7 course omakase. I am not going to go through every course. But will highlight the particularly memorable ones. <br/>The spanner crab tempura, was a standout. The batter was bubbly and light, the custard, was very difficult not to mop up every drop. The dish incorporating the onigiri and duck broth, was just amazing. The broth was so rich, but clear and somehow refreshing. The dessert, was unexpectedly fabulous! <br/><br/>The service is impeccable. All the table service staff very knowledgeable and explained every dish. Whether or not they really knew what they were talking about, I don't quite care. It isn't easy to remember all of the components of the dishes, not to mention explain it to the diners. <br/><br/>If you are not going to think of how much it costs, and how expensive every mouthful is going to be. It will be a very enjoyable experience. It isn't just about the food, but the whole experience itself. This is definitely a restaurant that also feeds the eyes. Every dish is painstakingly beautifully prepared. <br/><br/>If it is a special occasion or a treat for someone special, by all means make a reservation. But if you are going to keep thinking of how much it costs, perhaps don't bother as it will spoil the whole experience. <br/><br/>By the way, 7 courses was sufficient to feed us both. Both my partner and I have very healthy appetites.

This place is amazing. Texture taste balance and totally satisfying. Great wine list fantastic staff. Not cheap but worth every cent as a sensory experience. We will be back

Could not fault the setting , food or service  . It was a nice change to have professional and attentive service throughout the evening . The food was fresh innovative and interesting . It is on the high end price wise but one does not think twice when you receive what you pay for . Very enjoyable  and we will be back .

Wasabi offers a sophisticated Japanese-style dining experience, has jaw-dropping water views of its own and a slew of awards to its name, including Regional Restaurant of the Year in the 2015 Good Food Guide.<br/><br/>Using their own farm-grown authentic Japanese produce, along with local seafood and regional ingredients, the menu is fresh, delicate and refined, but expect to fork out some cash for this one.

Came here on a wet evening so unfortunately no nice view out the window. Well priced 9 course menu which we enjoyed. I personally loved the prawn and rice dish. Unfortunately there was no Caviar available as we really wanted to try. Compared to Melbourne this place was nice but the service was lacking slightly. I would come back for a special occasion but not the best meal I have ever had.
Onara
Wonderfully creative, without being showy or try-hard, Wasabi's menu caters both for the conservative and the adventurous palate. The delicious dishes are offset by a good choice of sakes and plum liqueurs too

As a Noosa local, I have tried just about every restaurant worth going to. The food and service was very good and the ambience was quite nice also. It was very hard to determine what to order and really is quite confusing. We were left with no choice but to have the 7 courses due to the fact that 3 would not have been near on enough. The wine list was reasonable but very expensive. The wait between meals was substantial and it ended up being three hours before we were able to finish and leave. The bill for 4 of us was over $700 and we only had 5 drinks. I hate to say it, but I think this restaurant is overrated and the cost is well above what I would expect to pay.
Rachel Cox
Incredible japanese dining experiemce that has a good mix of traditional and slightly more modern dishes. The sashimi and nigiri is some of the beat i have ever had and a great way to start. The mains were beautiful and full of rich interesting flavours. If visiting Noosa Wasabi has to be visited!

This is an absolute standout and a must do when you're in Noosa. It's a small venue with lots of little zones giving an intimate feel. The decor is modern and complements the magnificent view of the river while still feeling like a Japanese restaurant. If you've not been before, you should...
Cora Chen
Overall, we found the dishes to be fresh, delicate and refined. The quality of ingredients were allowed to shine with simple and well thought out compliments and cooking techniques. My favourite courses of the evening include the spanner crab, wagyu beef and chocolate dessert. The broth course was notable for being too salty. Service was great and whilst this was a memorable fine dining experience, I wouldn't say the food was necessarily tastier than some other less expensive restaurants in town.

Thee best restaurant in Noosa. Hands down. That's all I have to say but I still have 85 letters to use up to meet the 140 letter minimum requirement!

Wasabi in Noosa is serving authentic Japanese food primarily using produce sourced from the local area. This is a concept for many restaurants in Japan where their cuisines are based on only locally sourced ingredients.  Wasabi has its own farm at Honeysuckle Hill where they grow Japanese vegetables and herbs that are difficult to come by, and make use of the daily seafood catch from the local fishing boats. They aim to provide a regional, seasonal dining experience with a sense of place.

Tasty dinner from the a la carte menu. Oysters to start - 4 of each (natural with lime, tempura and dashi gelee) were fresh and a nice taster. Entrees and mains also nice. Reasonably expensive across both drinks and food, so value for money borderline.

The food was fresh and very tasty. We had the Wakeru menu and a must is the Hozuki dessert, delicious. But, if there is such a thing as over - servicing, we found it here. The constant changing of our plates with each course was unnecessary and the ever - presence of staff at our table was a tad disconcerting. I don't normally pay much attention to the music, however, some Japanese tunes over the Jazz would've been preferable. In any case, a really lovely dining experience and perfect for a date.<br/><br/>
Tirza Harley
Very overrated. The food was tasty but very over priced. Service was average and very stingy with the servings in the beverage package. Music was very loud for a fine dining experience. An expensive and unremarkable experience

Truly the best Japanese I have ever had. I would keep flying up here to eat here. Amazing flavors and the inside out Californian rolls are to die for <br/>

Wasabi are pretty well renowned. They repeatedly win 'Best Regional Restaurant of the Year' type of awards, receiving that particular honour in the Courier Mail's 2010 round. Among

Very unpretentious for a restaurant that carries so many accolades. Most of the staff are very friendly. Degustation is top notch. Choose the sliced wagyu option for the main. <br/><br/>All negative reviews on Wasabi seem to be about price/value for money, $600 for 4 of us including lots of alcohol for 3 hours on a Sunday night is a bargain guys. This is Australia, restaurants like this are not cheap to run.
Andersb777
Always a memorable experience. The views out to the Noosa River and the interior decor are fab. The food deserves all of the accolades that this place has received in the press - fantastic ingredients very well prepared. Wait staff are attentive and pleasant. (We had the Wakeru 7 course degustation).
Mary B.
My partner and I had the $152 chef banquet and unfortunately left feeling unsatisfied. The four different lots of crying children did not help either. The staff were friendly and attentive however out of the 9 courses only 2 lived to our expectations. Quick side note, the tuna tartare was really good but the other courses were not up this standard. We expected so much and for a $450 evening it should have delivered more.

Went again last night after a fairly unsuccessful visit last sept. On last trip we had the 9 course degustation meal recommend by ( I think ) the age. Not a good reccomendation for us. Last night we spent more time reviewing the menu & the food was outstanding. Excellent service & a great sommelier who knew his stuff. <br/>Expensive but worth it. ( around $170 / head ) without going overboard. <br/>Would thoroughly reccomend this restaurant to the "adequately heeled"<br/>Peter Hugall. Perth. WA.

Food serving is beyond tiny, <br/>630 for dinner for 4 without eating or drinking much is a joke <br/>Felt like I was robbed
EKF
Have eaten at Nobu, Sake, Etsu, Shiki.<br/>In comparison Wasabi is not at their standard especially for the exorbitant pricing . Paying minimum $30 dollars per dish for 5 pieces of gyozo, small salmon noodle dish, basically no noodles. <br/>Very very small portions offer little satisfaction, if you went here hungry you can expect to pay through the nose. A late light dinner (practically snacks) for 4 with 3 cheapest bottles of wine $584. It's not fine dining, cluttered restaurant staff bumping into us at the table whilst getting items from draws. Food was ok, not much better than a good sushi train.
Peterjon
Our second visit to this Noosa institution ... Obvious good quality ingredients & food preparation & presentation but seriously for the price !!! The portions are so small ... My son actually burst out laughing when our 5 pieces of sushi arrived ($32) our table !!! .... So $250 bucks later for 3 people (just one glass of wine) ... Still hungry & we actually joked about finding MACCAS on the way home .... I understand the economics of running a restaurant up here & they need to recover as much as possible in 2-3 months but sorry we feel ripped ..... !!
Sar2203
Absolutely perfect. The 7 course chef's selection with matched wines and sake. Amazing. Every single dish was delicate and perfectly balanced and complimented by the drink served with it. The service was impeccable, the staff are so knowledgable and happy to share this in a really down to earth way. One of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. Highly recommend!!
Critique
Poor Japanese food and poor management. Our experience with this restaurant is over priced food in minimalist packages, with extremely poor service and management. On a return visit to determine if the food had improved, this time the management failed to move on a 'first sitting' table that refused to go. Management made little effort to provide our 'second sitting' table that had been booked weeks in advance. We were alas forced at a late hour to secure a restaurant elsewhere for the special celebration dinner. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone under any circumstances.

Beautiful and elegant food with flawless service. Some reviewers don't seem to understand the skill and quality of ingredients required to produce what is put before them. Good quality seafood served raw is expensive and requires years of training! The menu items we chose were delivered in a fantastic sequence, and was thoroughly enjoyed.<br/>Yes it's expensive, but absolutely worth it!
Cathrudyard
I'd read the reviews and booked a table in anticipation, given it was our first foray into the dining scene in Noosa. A 45 min wait for our booked table and many giggles later at the miniscule portions of our chef's choice meal, my husband and I are still confused that we walked out $500 poorer and still hungry!!! Coming from Perth, I'm used to paying exorbitant prices for a meal out, but this was crazy! PS the barman was knowledgeable and friendly. Would highly recommend him.

The best Japanese restaurant in Queensland. Finally had the time to try this well-known Japanese restaurant. No wonder it is the best regional restaurant in Queensland. Nice sunset romantic view for you to dine in and enjoy the food not only on the taste but also visually satisfied. <br/>I tried the Oshinagaki and ordered the entree of Hotate and Sashimi Moriawase. Harvey Bay scallop would not let me down being prepared by the highly skilled chef in this restaurant. Sashimi presented with very good quality proteins. Our mains were Aburi Wagyu and Spatchcock Terriyaki, Wagyu with score 7+ done perfectly med rare and stuffed spatchcock was juicy with crispy skin. I have to mention about the dessert that I had which was the Ichigo. The fresh Eumundi strawberries did give me an unforgetable feeling at the end of this dinner.<br/>(One extra bonus offered by Wasabi is that the water served was all filtered by 'Bincho-tan', which is the best and healthy idea.)

Ms tuyet. Hi <br/>my family went to wasabi on 17/7/2014 the food was good , but there is a noodle dish which cost 29.00<br/>all it was 15 strands of noddles and a few salots with mushroom prot. we looked at it and all of us<br/>burst out laughing as it is way over the the top with the price they charged us.<br/>we order 4 entres and 3 mains and 1 salad , 2 soft drinks the bill come to 320.00<br/>we went home hungry .<br/>we will not come back
Peter James
Food, staff and atmosphere are great, staff took a genuine interest at making sure it was a special night for all. We'll come back and looking forward to it :) I'm going to point out one thing! In japan it's considered impolite to point resting chopsticks at your company, chopsticks should be in front of the plate resting across the table! I know that's a little OCD of me but this is a high quality Japanese restaurant.
Tania McIntyre
Honeymoon bliss. We were fortunate enough to receive a voucher for Wasabi as one of our wedding gifts and visited the restaurant whilst on our honeymoon in Noosa. From the location to the ambiance to the INCREDIBLE food and wonderful service everything about the experience was amazing. This restaurant is a MUST for Japanese food lovers - I cannot sing its praises enough, and we will definitely be revisiting this restaurant again on the future.

Mrs. Would have liked to try the degustation menu but at a table of 6 we either all had to have the degustation or not. With a few of us not able to eat shellfish this meant we had no choice but the al a carte. Sushi and wagu beef was amazing. But seriously Michael Bublie at full blast and a refusal to open the windows on a hot night meant the 'drink' wait staff did a 30 sec water round of tables as we all melted and listened to Michael. Found the lot very pretentious and had been looking forward to treating our son on his way to Japan for a long sojourn. We have eaten Japanese for many years both in Oz and in Japan. For the hype I was quite disappointed.
Kokubear
Great romantic ambience, good on them for using local produce with good quality. I love Japanese food, however, at the end of the day, wasabi price do not match the choice of food produced and the lack of flavour.<br/>The best of the degustation was thetempura, crunchy and not too oily.
Tonytonytony
The food in this place actually takes you somewhere new and is EXCITING!! ... I thoroughly recommend it ... Thank you for such a good night
Berto
Nice food and reasonably good service but for the price we had higher expectations.
Kimberly Chang
Amazing - 9 course degustation...worth every $. Great service as well. Had high expectations and it did not disappoint.
Jane
Best Japanese I have ever had. I loved the way they kept our water glasses full with fresh filtered (white charcoal) water. The ingredients, presentation, service, taste etc etc were top quality. It should be regarded as one of Australia's best.
Peter
TASTE SENSATION. I have followed Wasabi since it was in Coolum. Read reviews and really wanted to visit. Finally got my chance. Took my partner. Kept telling her to be adventurous. She did .<br/>We selected the 7-Course menu and let the chef choose want we got. We also allowed the wait staff to recommend wines to have.<br/>This was an amazing journey. Our waiter was part of that journey. It was his intimate knowledge of each dish and his animated description of each course that was and equal partner in our experience.<br/>We are already planning our next visit. Excellent
Enjoy
An excellent restaurant offering a superb menu in a brilliant setting. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Our special occasion required a special setting without compromise. Wasabi delivered. As seen by the high proportion of favourable reviews, it is excellent. You can't get this level of quality, service and locale 'cheaply'. Memories are enhanced when a restaurant of this quality is chosen. Thanks Wasabi.

We chose the 7 course chef suggestions menu. Every course was beautiful and unique. We loved the description of each course given by the friendly and extremely knowledgable wait staff. A memorable experience.
Lis
What an amazing place! It was an absolute experience not just a restaurant. The staff are so knowledgeable and friendly as well as having impeccable service skills, and the food is exciting, tasty and fresh. Worth every penny for a really special night.

Simply excellent .... Took my wife there on our first date must have made an impression married 11 months later.. Food is a high standard as is the service
Dan
Fantastic food & service, but you pay for it. I had a great meal here over the weekend. The staff were excellent, the setting is great, the service was amongst the best in SEQ and the food quality was superb... but at the end of the meal I left thinking about other Japanese meals I've eaten that were just as good but cost half as much. It basically felt like I paid $180 for the meal and $180 for the service and setting.
Pearce
Wonderful. We had the most wonderful night here. There was 12 of us for dinner the waiter was the best. He explained every course & every wine. This restaurant should have beaten Esquire it is far better food & wine & service. Would most definitely go back here. 10/ 10

Service was perfect and the food fresh, delicious and impeccably presented. This is a restaurant deserving of its reputation, they catered very kindly to any request or special order, only fault would be that servings are gastro-small, so large eaters may not feel satisfied.
Janet Flamethrower
Perfect.. This was is a really special dining experience, everything has a spectacular attention to detail and each dish was a tiny culinary adventure. My favorite was the hiramasa kingfish with toasted sesame seeds, ginger crisps and ponzu which was eye-closingly beautiful. The range of Sake is exciting and the staff were super slick and professional. I recommend doing the 6pm seating as you get to watch the long blush of the Noosa river sunset while you eat which adds to the experience making it a most romantic and classic evening.

Good food, over priced. The food was great, there's no doubt about that. We had a shared tasting menu with drink matching, and it left us very satiated. I would say that the drink matching wasn't worth the price - the matching added very little in terms of taste and they were very stingy on their portions. Go for a bottle of wine instead.<br/><br/>I felt that my favourite Japanese restaurant in Sydney does food equal in quality to this at 1/4 of the cost, so I won't go back. But I don't regret going once just to take in the atmosphere.
Christiana
Why all the fuss!. Can't see what the fuss is all about. We frequent many fine dining restaurants all over Australia. This one was astronomically priced pretentious & the waiter unfriendly & unwelcoming! We left feeling hungry and ripped off!
Lilla Clare
Wonderful, Waterfront, Wasabi .... The entrance to this quiet and unassuming restaurant is narrow, wood panelled and deceptive. To the right, a traditional Japanese dining room with people cross legged on the floor makes me swallow hard, luckily it’s an option [for next time perhaps?] when I am better dressed for it. <br/><br/>I say deceptive because once around the corner, things open up into a most lovely, spacious yet intimate dining room, with the best row of two-seater tables, reserved along the absolute water frontage of the river. This runs along the back of the restaurant, where our table awaits us, under some amazing light ‘chandeliers,’ and some handsome ducks floating about in the glowing pale blue lights, preening themselves lazily...<br/><br/>Hats off to you Chef Hajime Horiguchi and your team! Seasonal, traditional and some of the best flavours of 2012. Your selection and combinations can only be described as mouth watering and a taste sensation, bordering on sublime... especially the mixed plates of ‘bites’ to share, and the ice creams! <br/><br/>I am not a fan of sea food, yet despite the almost complete seafood menu, I found more than enough to keep me happy and full without any disappointment, or extra cost... I’m not surprised you have one more awards, congratulations!<br/><br/>If you like time to read the menu and don’t want to be processed, Wasabi is for you... if you like to get a plate at a time and share – enjoying all the flavours that are on offer – Wasabi is for you. If you like subtle lighting and ambiance, then Wasabi is for you. Happy New Year, will certainly come back and visit you in 2013.

First class experience. The service was exceptional, the food sensational. Only downside was there was no air conditioning on and it was a really hot day.

Obsessed!. I had never had Japanese food before (besides Sushi) but since dining at Wasabi I have become obsessed, the staff were wonderful, explaining to me where the food came from, how it was prepared & recommended which order to eat the dishes. The food was gorgeous, fresh & delicious! The decor is simple but beautiful, the view looking out over the Noosa river is breath taking while watching the sun set. I highly recommend Wasabi for anyone who isn't familiar with Japanese food & wanting to try it or anyone looking for a fabulous fine dining experience.

Wonderful food! We love Japanese food and have spent many holidays eating our way across japan. The sashimi at wasabi was up there with the best!

I love Japanese food, so I was excited to go to Wasabi whilst on holiday. It is one thing to go to a classy restaurant and buy expensive food, but another to be ripped off...

Perfection!. Nothing more to say but absolutely impeccable.

The food was amazing and lived up to expectations from recommedations given to us. However, this is not a child friendly place despite the restaurant accommodating us with a high chair and having an early booking doesnt make the staff accommodating. Great for couples but if you have children I wouldnt recommend taking them.

Didn't even get to eat at the restaurant. Waitress told us that they had takeaway, went to order, waiter says they don't have takeaway. Need to get their communication right if they are to become a class restaurant. Now I'm not even sure if I want to try it in the future because of the customer service I recieved. An unhappy non-customer.

The place is wonderful and very attentive. We had the tasting plate and it was wonderfully delicious!! Our waiter, John, was incredibly knowledgeable, very personable and made a great Hendricks with cucumber :-) If you're in Noosa and enjoy the finer things in life, pop along to Wasabi and ask for John. You will be very happy, as we were.

Incredible restaurant. Excellent flavors-every dish had a special element. Worked our way through the small dishes menu, in the recommended order Tuna with roe was the most memorable, but all dishes were of exceptional standard.

Special evening. I came here with my husband for our first wedding anniversary. I was a little hesitant as I had been warned of the service and there were mixed reviews. I was very happy with the tasting menu, the food was delicious! The service was wonderful and we asked for a window table when we booked and had a lovely view just befor the sun went down. It was a evening we will remember forever!

Fabulous Food, Poor Management Attitude. Had a beautiful meal at Wasabi, but a sour ending. We chose the Omakase - letting the chef choose what we would eat and were not disappointed in the food. We decided we would like matched wines with our Omakase - the price for this is not advertised so we asked our waitress. She indicated it would be $65 per person, the same as for the 7 course Tasting Menu. Based on this, we went ahead. The wines were fabulous and a wonderful match to the food. The surprise came when we got the bill and had been charged $100 a head for the matched wines. We queried this and were told she had made a mistake, it was $100. We asked for the manager who would not back down and give it to us for $65 as she claimed she'd be doing it "at cost"!!! A claim I very much doubt. Eventually, a small discount was offered of around $50 (off a bill of several hundred dollars). We will not be going back to Wasabi despite the wonderful food. What ever happened to customer service??? Very poor management attitude is unacceptable.

Zygz. Great evening at Wasabi. Service excellent. The plum style sake delicious and the stand outs were the trout and scallop mousse filled zucchini flowers plus a champagne jelly with sorbets dessert. The rest of the meal was very tasty. Reordered fine of the additions to the menu for the evening and with dessert food came to 160. Worth<br/> It

One of the best Japanese Restaurants I've been to.... We ate here a couple of weeks ago....OMG....amazing!<br/><br/>Superb setting….inside & out. Our waiter was so friendly helping us navigate the menu. We chose an amazing array of dishes....'pop' with every morsel eaten. Scallop sashimi & sushi the best I've ever had. I admit there was a little dish envy looking at gorgeous dishes on neighboring tables. Ah…all the more reason to return!

Beautiful sunday lunch. Picture perfect lunch looking upon the Noosa River. We had arami (thinly sliced tuna with seaweed & citrus zest), zuchini flower with a trout & scallop stuffing, yuke which is a tuna tartar disc with tiny black fish roe, a sashimi platter, pan seared trout with dashi braised soba grain (that was a new one) and a duck breast with japanese potato and a dashi infused tea. Finished with petit fours which is like a dessert sampler. With a bottle of huia sav blanc it came to $265 which I thought was very fair. Great attention to detail from staff and easily explained some ingrediants we havent had before. Yum.

Overpriced and judgmental. The food was middling to good but our twenty-three year old daughter was told to show ID to have a glass of wine, the staff were cold, failed to explain dishes, ungracious and rude, after paying 160$ for the chefs selection menu without explanation of some courses we were invited to purchase 16$ per head deserts, the price was outrageous

Best in noosa, really?. Good points first--faultless service, cozy but not crowded, reasonably priced. Had the tasting menu for dinner. Liked the wagyu beef tataki. Everything else was just okay, which is bitterly disappointing given the accolades from locals. The futumaki disintegrated the short distance between plate and <br/>mouth. The miso was a bit bland. The tempura was <br/>overwhelmed by the greasy coating, I could hardly taste the <br/>prawn. Chocolate tasting plate was a nice touch in the end. Went on a clear weekday night, and wondered about the water views other people raved about, because I couldn't see a foot in front of my nose across the wate at 6pm.

Fantastic. We had the tasting menu and the food was fantastic. The staff were great - very friendly and knowledgeable.

Still salivating. What a fabulous experience.<br/>Great decor, wonderful service.... the price was high but so was the overall standard. I would totally recommend the 7 course 'banquet'. Every dish was amazing until the 7th serving, the Wagyu beef accompanied by a variety of interesting flavours , which was nothing short of sensational.<br/>I'll be back!<br/><br/><br/>-----18 Jun, 2011-----<br/><br/>Gd544. Even better than before. It has been a year since being in Noosa and looked forward to see how wasabi was doing. Tuna bone marrow consomme. So different and delicate. Zuchini flower tempura delightful. Sushi as perfect as ever. I certainly consider the best japanese. Nothing else like it.

So, dined here on our first night in Noosa and the experience wowed us so much...we went back Saturday night! I have never done this before with any restaurant and it is testament to the quality of the food, service and the experience that we couldn't think of anywhere else we would rather eat twice in a row!<br/>The maki are amazing, with perfect rice and seasoning. Stuffed zucchini flowers to-die-for. The only food let down across our two nights was the venison, which was a touch meagre and lacking in excitement. The only other slight downside is the wine list, which seems skewed towards wines which are not necessarily great for matching with lighter Japanese flavours. They do however, have an excellent Sake list.<br/>Yes, it is on the expensive side, but well worth it for the quality. You will not regret dining at Wasabi once- or twice!

I always Love coming here. The old head chef now works at Sake @ eagle street pier.

Great night. Really enjoyed our evening at Wasabi and would feel comfortable recommending it to others. I will be back

S-I-G-H...want to go back very soon. We booked to enjoy the sunset over the river and weren't disappointed. Wasabi has prime views and the restaurant is designed to make the most of every angle. A must visit when in Noosa when you would like to treat yourself, family and friends. Sydney foodie in our group made a good point in that she rarely can go to a restaurant where every single dish is amazing! A must try is the Hiramasa Kingfish, in fact just order 2, Futomaki Ken Ebi and the Umeshu for dessert - Japanese plum wine brulee, green tea sugar and black sesame ice-cream. Be adventurous, order up and share as a group. The staff are trained impeccable and tops any service that I've experienced in awhile. Well done Wasabi you've hit the trifecta - amazing views, staff and ultimately the food!!

Fantastic experience. We had dinner at Wasabi on a recent trip to Noosa and absolutely loved it. Really exceptional food..loved the daily specials of tuna sashimi and potato/crab dumplings in a truly amazing broth. Fresh and fabulous...really friendly unpretentious service too and top marks to our waitress who had to bend down thoughout our meal to serve us! Was pleasantly suprised at the cost too for the quality of the food on offer.

All round excellence. Knowledgeable service, extensive menu, tasty food, a nice setting, and good value.<br/>What more needs to be said?

Paradisiac. Starting from the phone booking to the moment we left the restaurant our experience at Wasabi was faultless. Drinks at the bar on petite stools, entree of sashi and a selection of futomaki. They only have 2 big mains to choose from, but don't despair they have a faboulous selection of daily specials and a variety of tradtional tastes with a spin. You must have the petit fours dessert selection, a paradisiac way to finish the meal. Strongly recommend, but book in advance, I was just lucky to slip in!

Remarkable. Had lunch for my birthday and boy do they have a champagne list with too many to choose from. Once decided we turned towards the food side with standouts sea urchin/scallop, a tuna sashimi selection, tuna with fish roe, tempura prawn, wagu desu and petit fours. Really couldnt fault them save a cloudy day. Staff attentive but not pushy. Its reputation is deserved.

Great Noosa japanese. Sushi rolls dominant the menu here and boy were they all different and delicious. Wonderful tempura seafood, thoughly enjoyed our night. Try the tasting menu! Definitely will return when next in Noosa.

Extraordinary. To call Wasabi one of Australia's best culinary experiences is an understatement. The menu & the service are without fault. This is a 'must do' for every trip to Noosa!

Very nice!! You can even grate your own fresh wasabi!

Wonderful balance of flavours, textures, & colours. If you're in Noosa, Wasabi is a must do. <br/>To get a fair idea of the quality of the fare, I suggest the degustation. Simply amazing. $90 by itself, or another $39 for matched sake. Either way, it's worth every cent!

Amazing. We love our Japanese food but went there for the first time for Valentines Day..............the best Japanese food we have tried......................supurb..................flavours of Japan explode in your mouth.............cant wait to get back to Noosa for Wasabi alone

Pretty impressed. We went for a late lunch after reading john lethlean's positive review in The Australian and we were more than pleased. Fantastic traditional japanese as they leave aside the fusion plays that has become so trendy. Its very difficult to present such quality. We lingered on to watch the sunset which just topped off a great experience.
Bobkama
Same great food in fantastic location. Sunset drinks amazing on the right day. A must do in noosa! Check The Australian for their review.
Anna
Amazing food, great service and fabulous views. Will definately be back!

And the highlight was a rare wagyu beef with a miso mayonnaise that was out of this world.
