Review Danny's Burgers - North Fitzroy

Trader Joe
Solid burger. Mad greek legends making the best late night burgers around. OGs. PLEASE NOTE: They are NOT cash only like some are saying. They take cards now.
Steve Garrard
Regular at Dannys coz my wife says the burgers are not greasy. I agree. Such a busy place. The only neg today was slightly undercooked chips. 1st time ever. Anyway, suggest you eat in for the cool vibe and get the food hot off the cooker.
Kieran Schoof
Legitimately my favourite burger place, burgers are big for a very affordable price, can never drive passed without first stopping here
Matt Pollard
Small place with a big heart and amazing burgers. Old school style of Burges that are focused on flavour and not fancy ingredients. Even the steamed dim sims seem to be on another level of greatness here at Danny's. And all for a darn good price too. Easy five stars right here.

Danny’s has such a fantastic reputation of being one of the first burger places in Melbourne. It has such a nostalgic feeling, the service is so exceptional with a local feel. The guys behind the counter welcoming the regulars and asking about their family. I ordered The Lot without bacon and it was a very old style of burger. I can imagine sitting here on a late night with friends and enjoying this comfort food. The milkshake was really good too! I’m glad we tried Danny’s Burgers 🍔

I often go here with my brother. We love the Value Burger Deal. Always greeted by friendly welcoming Staff who make us feel at home. Yummy Meal.

Melbourne’s version of our Malaysian Ramlee Burgers. This place is a godsend at 1 am in the morning postwork shift / pub crawl. Great burgers without all the frills. I would move to Fitzroy North just to be able to have these late night suppers at Dannys
Robert L
Good joint for late night burgers compared to other fast food franchises. The burgers are reasonably priced, great service and the burger do taste great. The only thing is with this place is burgers don't always come out the way your would get them from your more expensive burger restaurants. However I have had more good burgers than average ones. I have never ever had a burger that was bad.

Popped in during the early evening must say while most times ive popped in to Dannys ive been a little tipsy to say the least this time 100% sober and my taste buds have never lied they are still amazing my lady enjoyed my mates usual the booze burger which is to die for and i had the double chicken breasts with salad pure bliss well worth the trek
Haidee Sell
Amazing food. Friendly staff who don't blink when you order soemthing weird :) Not overpriced and the food is hot, fast and plentiful. The best place to go after a gig that I know of
Ian Griffett
I haven't eaten here since 1980 burgers were 10 out of 10 then and tonight i had a triple burger with the lot and still 10 out of 10 best burger place in Melbourne
Dazz Inator
Always a good burger here. You don't last this long in business without great food. Step back to the 50'S Enjoy good food and great service. Cash only....... no eftpos.
Tom Jones
Seriously, we've been going there for years and years and they are the absolute best. Huge thank you to all the guys there, keep doing what you're doing!
Marni Newman
Great experience. Had been wanting to go to Danny's Burger joint since we moved to Melbourne in 2013 (I know right?) The food was top notch and walking into a 1950's institution that is probably in it's 5th generation of ownership, was a heck of a good time! Very busy. Cash only, but don't let that put you off! (as there is an ATM next door)

Thanks to Danny's I'm now not able to order burgers anywhere else. They are the best - end of story.
Leesa Machray
Great old style burgers, fresh, tasty, reasonably priced.. definitely recommend
Nathan Smith
I ordered a burger through deliveroo tonight, it was still fresh AF and tasty when it arrived.
Yuto Hayasaka
Burgers are pretty average but the steak sangas are fantastic! The big owner who runs the place isn't very friendly.
Jason Stiicky Nolan
Best original style burgers in Melbourne. Been going there for 30 years.
John Sweeney
Had the double stack and a double with egg bacon & pineapple. Great flavour in the meat patties and real buns not sweet brioche. Awesome flavours and a very good price. Old school is the way to go.
Kevin Armota
The food was average. The staff were fucking pieces of shit , not a smile or friendly services at all, thanks
Stuart Tennant
A non pretensious and honest establishment providing great burgers to this city’s diverse population.
Hini Hanara
They're open, they're simple but I wouldn't run back anytime soon. I don't get the hype sorry with so many amazing burger joints out there.
Christopher Keah
great burgers. very american diner. did I mention the great burgers?
Scott
A great Burger and Chips with real flavour.
We were just wanting a blast from the past and went to grab a Burger and Chips from a true Melbourne institution. Take the drive and enjoy a great feed.
Oh, the prices shown on the attached menu is a bit out of date, but still worth it.

If you know you know... I’ve given overzealous reviews about burgers before, but this is the original OG. What Dr J is to Jordan, what Socrates is to Plato. Danny’s is tried and true, open till 1 every night, reasonable prices, simple menu with out the fluff.
This is the purest form of the the burger, no need to re invent the meal, just perfect it. I got the double with bacon and cheese cos I’m a big boi and them patty’s so nice, they best eaten twice.
Also, get around your fave foods in this time so they can continue. Much love, stay well 🔥
Yumyumfoodyum
Decent fish and chip style burger. Always consistent and open late. Not a lot of seating, but service is fast and efficient. Special mention to their perfectly fried dim sims.
Sam Pappas
Best burgers in Melbourne hands down. Great value for money and the business seems to be steady all day long so the turnover is there ensuring freshness. A Nth Suburbs institution!!!
Alessandro Calabro
Went here with a cooked greek and a dodgy Turk and had a great time. Burgers are always the same no matter when you go. Keep up the good works.

Extremely disappointed, have been a regular customer for a very long time, but today’s service from a young kid with a black cap has ruin my experience. From initial order take, very Timid airy fairy approach, no customer service skills and definitely not very friendly, but the biggest issue was my take away order, I specifically asked for very little soy sauce on my dim sim to take away for my mum, but only to be slapped in the face with a complete joke, when I took this home,,You guys can be the judge of this yourselves, belongs in the bin, what a total disrespect. Will not be returning again, thanks for ruining a great experience.

Time machine. Making burgers, steak Sandwich s, etc 75 years. Cater for vegans as well. I spurged out with single pattie, egg, bacon and pineapple. Held back on the cheese, gota watch my figure. $9.50. Plain 🍔 $6.50. Great value for burgers. The beef patty is thick and tast and you can order up to 3 patties with what ever extras, see menu. Constant traffic of customers, reckon this place would be flat out late night. Will return and try the steak Sandwich

This old school burger place has been serving quality burgers at a very cheap price for years. It has faced enormous competion from American chain burger stores and other fancy burger stores but has with stood the test of time. One of my favorite places to eat when i return home to melbourne to visit family. I didn't give it five stars because it lacks enough seating and i had to eat standing up while waiting for my uber
Daniel
Holy shitballs the ravings about Danny’s Burgers are all true.
It’s sort of traditional fish and chip shop burger, but a bazillion times nicer. Definitely not the American style burger that’s become very popular in recent years.
If you’ve never been, you are missing out on one of life’s greatest simple pleasures.
Mackenzie Woeste
Absolutely amazing burger!!! I placed an order for delivery and this was my first time ordering and was not disappointed in the least. I would highly recommend!!

Monday nights is often the hardest night to dine out, due to many restaurants being closed. So we thought we would go back to the ever reliable Danny's Burgers for a quick dinner.
Danny's never disappoints; you know what you're going to get with the steamed dim sims and the lot! Tasty and very efficient service. Definitely is our go to burger joint on late nights!
Sticky Rice
Looking for late night venue to pick a burger! This is great place to end the night out. Danny’s offer great options single double or triple stack and same goes with steak and chicken option too! Simple and great.
Jerry P. MacMillan.
Danny's Burgers has been around for years and they know how to make a great tasting hamburger as well. In my opinion the best original style hamburgers in Melbourne, that can match it with anyone....no problem. This historic burger shop keeps hungry customers happy and wanting more.
Tackling a burger with the lot, some crispy delicious chips will leave you very satisfied. Anytime of day or night, after a big night out, before or after the footy or on a quiet Sunday arvo.
Have visited many times over the years and customer service is friendly, prompt service and quality items on the menu to choose from. This place is loved by adults and kids alike, the next-generation of customers that will be life long fans.
Prices are very competive and worth every dollar. Only hope this shop was bigger to accommodate the patrons with more seating.
Long live Danny's Burgers, keeping the heart of old Fitzroy alive and kicking goals.

Does this place ever change ?
Haven’t been this way for years and noticed people have changed but burgers and dims sims still exactly the same as I remember ..
Great old school burgers ...
Foods Of Melbourne
I’ve been coming here for a while now, but am so hungry when I get my food, i forgot to take a photo 😂 so this time I stopped myself. Danny’s burgers, an honest, delicious meal, extremely reasonably priced and overall a fantastic experience 😁 staff are ALWAYS lovely and accommodating, the food is always on point and they’re happy to mix and match food (I got the steak sandwich, no cheese or bun, add side salad and meat patty) YES a difficult human I am indeed - but they’re happy to help me out. Their egg is always runny, meat always cooked to perfection salad always fresh! See you tomorrow Danny’s Burgers 🍔☺️
Angelo Bof
have been attending this place for quite a while and have never been dissapointed with the food or service. By far the best burger place in melbourne in my opinion and nick and boys & girls do a great job so keep it up
Foodie AC
Much Ado About Nothing I'm afraid. Stuffed if I know how these burgers are any different to the local fish and chip shop variety. And my local is better.

Was persuaded to do here by the Broadsheet Best Burgers list. Sometimes these best of lists can't be trusted, although most on that list are very good.
Mary
The burgers are great for value, the patty was pretty juicy, definitely fills you up. The beef patty was too salty it ruined the burger for me. If only they went a bit easier with the salt!
Charlie Kang
Unsure what the fuss is about here. I had. Steak with the lot. Very so so. Salad was not fresh and who serves roast margarine these days? 😕
FOODIEST
Now this is a place to get a good old fashioned burger. It's the kind of burger you would get at a well frequented truck stop. Juicy meat patty, fresh lettuce, cheese, sauce, bacon and fresh bun. No gourmet burgers here, just quality simple burgers that deliver every time.
Elle
Burgers are a good size and good price. Not being flame-grilled, we had hoped the meat would hold the flavour and carry the burger's integrity. Unfortunately it was average. We weren't entirely sure that the meat was pure meat. It had an odd texture and flavour. Positives were that the burger held together, wasn't runny or un-manageable, even for its size. It comes cut in half. Small chips are a decent size. 2 drinks will set you back the price of a burger. Old style burger joint, no frills, no fancy anything. Which is more than fine, if the burgers are great. But not sure whether a return trip is warranted.
Taimor H
Thank god proper and decent burgers have arrived to Melbourne. Why on earth would anybody ever flatten the burger pattie (Australia)? Does not deserve the fuss or acclaim
Brendan Harty
Had my first visit to Danny's Burgers last night after finishing late. Beautiful hamburger that brought back memories of hamburger shops before we descended into the McDonald abyss!
Great service and very quick. I will be back!!
Stunsail
Oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about... Come here once and it's obvious why it's an institution. This place will outlast the hipsters who have embraced it in recent years. It's done basic, diner style burgers for more years than I've been alive (if the sign is to be believed, which it sort of has to - as a mark of respect). No nonsense burgers, in quantities you can actually consume (no false Instagram glory here, foodies) and delicious as all get out - whether for padding your stomach at the start of a big night out, or sneaking in a cheeky burger and chips at the end of one.
Shlomi
We wanted to check what to fuss is about and were pretty disappointed.
Not that the burgers were bad, just not good as well.
Overcooked thin meat with overcooked egg, dry bun and not too many options to add.
Decent for the price, with pretty big proportions.
Service was not attentive as well, I guess this place is more for late night hunger satisfaction than a good meal.
William Hasnever
If you go into this place expecting an awesome gourmet radically different burger you will be disappointed. This place does though do a very nice meal. It's nothing fancy or special but it's tasty and always seems reasonably fresh. Service here when it's busy is very poor as I've waited up to 30 minutes for my meal which I feel is totally unacceptable. But hey, first world problems I suppose. Go when they are first open and it's a totally different experience and it's a great one. The retro decor is ok but it's a bit over done I think.
Anton Ego
Great prices... good servings... burger meat slightly on the bland side.. improve that and I'll give it a 4.5 rating.
Vchef
Danny's has been consistently excellent for the 24 years I have lived in North Fitzroy. Always fresh tasty burgers friendly staff fast service.
Kate
I guess I can see why people are so fond of Danny's Burgers. The food is good value, and then there's the nostalgia. It evokes a time when things felt simpler. The burgers are unremarkable, but with their thin patty and hot-plate toasted bun, they bring to mind burgers from the local fish and chip shop, which is refreshing amongst the ubiquitous American-style, yellow processed cheese burgers. In saying this, I feel I've tried Danny Burgers now and I can comfortably live without rushing back. I don't mean that as an insult at all, just that I crave something with a bit more of a punch of flavour (and that's not necessarily the ubiquitous American-style ones).
Cindy Hanara
All the charm of a war time bunker. What they lack in flavour is made up for in meat content. Chips were cold.
Gruff/barking service
Forgettable.
DUBAI PALACE
This place has the best delicious gourmet burgers and are always fresh the management there is perfect very kind service and they always make there customers happy and this place has better burgers than your usual maccas or hungry Jacks burgers i would rate this place 100/100 cause burgers are freshly made.....
Peter Evans
Danny's has been around forever and serves up your typical fish shop burger which was so popular back in the day. It's open late and whilst they might be average burgers they fill a need and are consistent.
Anar Mir
Danny's Burgers located in the heart of Fitzroy North aims for the small diner appeal and doesn't fail to impress.

Burger of choice was the Double Lot Meat Burger with lettuce, diced onion, egg, bacon, tomato, cheese and sauce, and oh boy does it impress with the traditional grill patty-pressed burger taste.
Make the way for this one lads, you won't be dissapointed 👌🏼
Pasta Of Muppets
What's to be said that hasn't already. It's Dannys - Old school, fast, real and consistant. Of course the burgers are solid, and the dimmys are dynamite. A true Melbourne institution. Don't ever change boys.
SueyLuey
A great local burger joint on st georges for quick burgers and sandwiches takeaway or dine-in!! It does get really busy though so def. try not to go during peak hours or take your time and wait for a table to open up.. Doesn't tKe that long really.

Menu is on the board - go for the meat burger on the lot or a grilled chicken-burger or a steak sandwich. Then mix it up with a great shake! Mmmm...

Burgers ranges from $8-12, chips $4-5.

Friendly staff. Quick service. 5-15min waiting time.

Continuing with the Old School theme, this week Team Cheeseburger feasted at Danny’s Burgers. Danny’s has certainly stood the test of time having first opened in 1945. And they don’t mess around delivering old school burgers in an old school way. Locals love this place and it’s easy to see why. Quick, attentive service is matched by decent burgers that sate ones appetite equally on a Saturday afternoon as they do early Sunday morning. Arguably more on a Sunday morning as you drunkenly fist burger into your impatiently waiting mouth. Although that is a story for another time…
Fadi Akra
Just had a Danny's burger plenty of people have raved about them, if this was 1995 and a fish and chip shop I would say they are pretty good, filling, greasy, not overly flavorsome, but basically an OK fish and chip shop burger, Melbourne palates have changed we are spoiled for choice and these burgers don't cut it at all, after ordering I had to go next door to an ATM to pull money out, upon returning I didn't receive a number for my Burger and being my first time didn't know I needed to take one, fast forward 10 minutes a big burly typical muzza started yelling number 112 or something, I said to him I didn't receive a number and it could be mine, he basically pushed the Burger at me looking irritated, if not giving a customer a number for their meal and being pissed at them for it gets this guy out of his comfort zone I certainly wouldn't suggest looking at the fish and chip menu board for 5 mins or changing your order, average, average, average!
Cameron Pritchard
The best burger this side of the river... Go down and ask ads to put the nba playoffs on while smashing your burger down!!!! 🍔👍🏼👌🏼
Keep and eye out for Jim the Greek, there at least 4 times a week, ask for the jimmy special too
Steve George
If you like the classic fish and chip style burger, then this place is for you. Average tasting burgers, not much creativity behind them. Small place to eat in, so I would suggest takeaway. So many burger places now, that there are much better than here. (Been to dannys twice and average both times)
AP23
Dannys is what it is. Haters gon' hate... but where else can you get a good old school fish n chip style burger at midnight? There's nothing gourmet about Dannys and it doesn't pretend to be, and that suits me fine. Two burgers, chips, and three dimmies for $21 is good value. Reliable and a good honest burger.
Val
Good spot to get a late night bite. Burgers are great and tasty. Many different types to choose from or you can design your own. Restaurant is very small so don't expect to get a table as it is usually busy.
Happy Kath
Happy accident brought me here. Very tasty hamburgers. Classic & unpretentious Australiana style burger. Had a double patty burger with the lot. The lot does not include pineapple or Beetroot but I can live with paying the extra $ for both. Generous serve of chips, $5. I like that there are salt, pepper & tomato sauce shakers on the counter. There are few things more offensive to my mind than having to pay $1 for 50mls of tomato sauce in a ridiculous tiny sauce satchel... Especially when you're getting a burger or fish n chips & you're after a cheap eat. Lovely milkshake, one shake was enough for two. I'll not only go back here I will take my mum here. I can't really offer higher compliment than that.
Mary-mia Ioculano
Absolutely delicious hamburgers, awesome chips crunchy and soft on the inside, and old school milkshakes. The place is small but it's very clean and neat. Love the Old school retro look. Service is very good and quick. It's not expensive $10-$12 for a very large burger. Recommend for a good feed. To pay there it's only cash.👍
Christopher Robert Doyle
All this place needs is flake ,It is a fish and chip shop not a burger joint and Old guy behind the counter ,But at least they have steak sandwiches
Loves A Good Latte
Popped in here a month ago to grab a traditional style burger (none of this rare mince nonsense)! Staff were great and friendly, very old school vibe and make a burger how it should be! Get around it
Will Vaughan
Tasteless. Danny's burgers consist of large flat and dry buns, topped with the saddest grey meat pattie I have seen. It is an unseasoned flavourless meat pattie that tastes of old burnt grill top grease. Add to that raw diced onion, plastic cheese and old shredded salad and sliced tomato that share the same burnt grease taste. I can't agree with all the great reviews, Danny's burgers is by far the most disappointing burger I've had in Melbourne. Nothing fresh about it. Would not recommend, find yourself a kebab or go to McDonald's.
HeraldSun Reviews
Clean inside, although very small, great pricing and decent sized burgers, amazing taste with top quality beef used, definitely recommended! It's that kind of night
Happy Munchkin
Best burger I've had in a long time! Didn't take a photo I couldn't wait 🍔 SO GOOD
I was a little dubious about the raw onion in the Greek style with tzasiki but it was great with Bundaberg lemon. A definite must do when next in Fitzroy North 👍
Melbourne Food Social
Danny's have the best burgers and have been around forever. Love the fact they're open until 2/3am every night, so you can pretty much pop in whenever your hungry. Personally I like these style burgers more than any of the new brioche bun styled venues.
St!nger
This place is like a fish n chip shop with out the fish. The burgers and steak sandwiches taste like what you would expect from a local fish n chip shop, yet probably a little better. The service from the guys also added to my overall experience. Im not sure i would travel a long way to go here, but if i was in the area or a local i would definately recommend
G
I'm not sure why this place gets such rave reviews... I came back a second time to confirm with myself that this is very overrated.
Like a local fish n chip shop really, just more expensive. Very average, nothing wrong but absolutely nothing special.
Loc Le
The burgers were not juicy at all. It seemed as if they had just worked the meat for way too long; so rather than it just the patty actually breaking up as you bit into it, you had to chew it a lot. overrated.
Alex Tee
Used to go to Danny's when I was little with my family, but taste and quality seems to be showing signs of struggling now with all the other competition but still a decent burger place, and it's open pretty late. Dim sims go alright too
Justos
True fish and chip style burger. always has been, always will be. Still a pretty good burger, but there are alot of pretty good burger joints around now.
Jit
Danny's burgers' reputation precedes it but it doesn't live up to the hype. Danny's simply isn't relevant anymore. The menu is bereft of options, the burgers are greasy and tasteless and the legendary dim sims, delicious as they are, really don't do enough to warrant a visit.
Sweet And Sour Fork
You can tell it’s been a long time since Ming and I ordered a fish-and-chip-style burger by the fact that neither of us even considered getting a second patty on our order. Compared to the gourmet burgers from the likes of Huxtaburger, Rockwell and Sons, and 8bit, which are often stacked with thick patties, our Single Patty with Cheese ($6.8) was a depressingly flat affair. The thin patty, though not necessarily smaller than the others due to its wider nature, made for a lack of that satisfying meaty hit one feels upon biting into its competition. The modest accompaniments of lettuce, cheese, tomato sauce, and onion did little to remedy this fact, creating a burger that tasted nice enough but certainly didn’t hit the spot. This is a burger that screams for an additional patty to make it worthwhile.
Good Eats
I've been going here for years. Some people hate it, some (like me) are die hard fans. Andrews can go to hell. I've been and dannys crushes it. Place is cash only so be aware. Burgers are top, tripple with the lot is a must and chips are crunchy and the serves are huge. Always open, always busy.
Mr. Food
Reasonably priced burgers with every bite having a tremendous blast of deliciousness. The place stays open past midnight which is convenient for many who work night shift or for anyone up for a late night feed. The staff are kind, humble and enthusiastic which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. Danny's burgers should definitely be in the top three for the best burger in Melbourne.
Zomato Dozzy
Good burgers, american diner style restaurant is cool too. This place isn't trying to be anything beside a good restaurant. The patties are nice and everything is quick and reasonably priced.
Foodie87
Good old burger. Nothing fancy or over the top just a usual dirty burger. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed but can get busy. I've been coming here for a while now. Tasty burger and chips
ItsTrueFatKidsLoveFood
Decent burgers. However I just think these days with the more gourmet burgers around, it's just not up to scratch. However they are not trying to sell themselves as those and this should be compared to fish & chip shops, where it does pretty well.
David.xalfa
Love Danny's. These guys make such delicious burgers. I have been here probably a hundred times over the years, and they never disappoint.
Wraith_kabab
Up for an old style Burger?. Then look no where else!
This is a burger we used to have back in the 70s,80s, 90s! Before everything was experimental!
Dont get me wrong, I love me some experimental burgers but this place, for what its going for, does it extremely well.
If you just want a good, tasty, simple burger then this is the place to go.
Eatout Alot
Great burgers, great prices. I've always had a fresh well cooked burger here. The meat in both the regular or steak burgers are moist & of high quality. The staff are friendly and the waiting time is never too long considering I often go when they are flat out. It's great to have the burgers are cooked fresh to order. The late night opening is also handy when you need a feed after a big night out.
Paul Cerretti
If you want some sweat on your burgers!
Guy cooking had sweat dripping off his head like a leaking tap.
Big Lou
Let down. Having driven past Danny's dozens of times for a long time I decided it was time to try.

Upon my first visit to Danny's I should have taken a hint when I noticed more people in the store eating steamed Dim Sims than burgers. We both ordered the triple meat with the lot and small fries.

From an absolute honest perspective- I found the parties quite bland, no flavour at all and actually quite dry. The cheese was tasteless to the point we didn't even notice the cheese. This burger was just a big mass of everything lumped together. Quantity rather than quality
Having said that - I am a foodie and can cook - so maybe I'm not the right person to be eating at Danny's.

Now, along with a burger you should get great fries / chips. Once again this was a let down. Barely enough salt. These chips were just average run of the mill chips you find in an old fashioned food van at a carnival.
With soooo many gourmet chips around with sauces, chicken salt and other seasonings I would have thought Danny's would put in more effort.

Was genuinely disappointed with everything about the meal and can honestly say I prefer the average fast food burger over this. It's the second well known burger joint I've been to with the same results. Sorry guys but I won't be returning.
Johnstrickland
Great burger! best to phone in your order first. Best classic old school burgers in Melbourne. Can get busy some nights it's easy to call in and pre order, you will feel like a rock star when you fly through the line.
The City Lane
Danny's has been around since 1955 and while the burgers weren’t bad, they very much in the category of “dependable late night option” rather than standing on their own as one of Melbourne’s best burgers.
Facebook User
The things I like the most about Danny’s Burgers are the things that are most lacking in my life: consistency and stability. As I prepare to move back to Sydney after just under a year in Melbourne, via California and Mexico for a month, it is comforting to know – and this is meant with absolute sincerity and the right amount of gravitas – that a place like Danny’s will always be here.
EnjoyEatWatch
Can’t argue with the price. But it did leave a lot to be desired. The patty was thin, burnt and dry, hardly any sauce, and a dry on-the-verge-of-stale roll.
The World Loves Melbourne
Danny’s are famous for the double and triple lot hamburgers. They are enough to fill the hungriest mouths! And they are made at 1950’s prices! Great value dinner option for the family!
Mochii
Taste wise, hamburgers were yummy, meats were flavorsome. However, did find it lacking in sauce which made it a bit dry.
Sofia Levin
Danny’s or Andrew’s. Andrew’s or Danny’s. If you live north of the river, generally you’ll agree that Danny’s Burgers serves the best in Melbourne, better than their south-side rival Andrew’s Hamburgers.
BrokenLense
There is a huge range of burgers available. From the lot, to double lot, to triple lot, to chicken burgers and everything in between. Pick your poison really.
Xjuzjuzjuzx
Once we got our burgers, they looked good – a neatly stacked burger that was cut in half for our eating convenience. The beef burger was very salty due to the bacon and tomato sauce; flavours that seemed to dominate over everything else.
The chicken burger has a softer flavour and the tomato sauce was dumped for some rosemary mayonnaise.
If the thing that makes Danny’s Burgers ‘so great’ was present during this meal, then I must have forgotten to eat it because I was not particularly impressed. The burger size didn’t match the price and the flavour was standard. Maybe that’s the point… and I missed it.
The Burger Adventure
Unchanged since 1955, Danny's Burgers has held it's North Fitzroy reputation as a family business that caters to the masses with its nostalgic home-style burgers. Judging from the exterior, you can't help but anticipate a messy burger experience. However,
Eat And Be Merry Crew
Danny's promotes itself as established in 1945 and Melbourne's best burgers. I suspect that one of those two statements is true. It's really hard to find a good hamburger bar in Australian cities these days. And there's no doubt that Danny's is a good ham
Food Lover
We were driving back home from a party last Saturday night and couldn't resist stopping at Danny's for midnight-binge burger. Danny's is THE burger joint of Melbourne's northern suburbs. It's so old school with its blackboard menu, long roll of stools whe
Gem
Why is it that the best burger joints in Melbourne are just men's names? You've got Danny's in North Fitzroy, and Andrew's in Albert Park, and both have excellent reputations.
Kelly Chen
Very friendly staff there. I loved the hamburger lots, however, was a bit disappointed to its steak sandwiches and chips. The meat was a bit chewy and the toasts were very saggy and not really pleasant at all. The chips were not really crispy although the size was satisfying. Overall it's an average meal.
P-mac
Classic flavours and ingredients. Always good. Nothing better than a Danny's burger on the way home and open till late which is great.
Nina
Not my kind of thing.. Might have been what i may have considered a good burger a few years ago before they became more gourmet and adventurous. This is no different from a local take away style burger.
Cordelia Rose
So happy they have a veggie patty burger now! And it tastes amazing. Good to see them finally catering to vegos and it was well worth the wait.
J Cosentino
Great!. Fantastic burger joint. Staff were so nice! Love how it is open late! The burger was made with real juicy chicken breast and a nice toasted bun.
Bruvcul11
Not good. Not good, slow service and tasteless burgers. plenty of other options down St.George's Road

Yummy, great value for money. Adam and the staff at Danny's serve up yummy great burgers and chips.

Great value for money, especially compared to all the new 'trendy' burger joints popping in every inner city suburb.

Yummy food, great service.
Lindsayinmelbourne
LINDSAYINMELBOURNE. If a hamburger joint sells burgers with "the lot" they should have pineapple/cheese/beetroot on them rather than charge for those items as "extras" and in the case of beetroot "not even have it available at all?" Like all small retail outlets the brand of soft drinks vary but you can lift a rock on the moon and find a can of Coke because "it's the real thing" but there's no Coke at Danny's either..must have been turfed with the beetroot? The chips are great but double the odds too apart from that the burgers he makes and sells are fine.
Bbhood85
Good fish and chip style burgers. Ok so the burgers here aren't of the fancy sort that seems to be the trend these days. However, for a fish and chip style burger, these really do hit the spot, no frills burger with a massive serving of fries. Beats a lot of the similar style burgers out there. price is good too.
Lillypal
Great. I think the issue here is people's preferences. People talk about flavour of the chips and burgers as "lacking" but if your compairing it to an American style burger then you're comparing two completely different things. Danny's burgers are Australian style burgers. The meat is fresh and unadulterated, you can tell when you watch them prepare it. I had the hamburger but I also watched them make a steak sandwich and I was super surprised that the meat looked as though it was purchased today.
The chips are like good old fashioned takeaway.

I'm not a fan at all of American burgers. They are way too much and the amount of suger in the buns makes it taste like lollies. I love burgers like this, which is why I'm raving about Danny's burgers. If you don't want to be disappointed, don't go here to get an American burger cos it's not their style.
If you want something's that's fresh, enjoyable and is all about the taste of the actual ingredients rather then preservatives and suger, head to Danny's burgers.
TP
Must be the best in Melb. Clockwork perfection. Always busy bit on a footy day call beforehand as it is not a Maccas drivethru it is the tops in burgers. They have a great system at Danny's, buns toasted but not bland excellence in burger meat and a burger whether it is my favorite cheese n onions+ or with the lot, never greasy. Fresh tomato n lettuce tops it off.I If you want to pig out try doubles and triples
Bitter As This Melon
Poor service and poor food.. No card payments, cash only. The burgers were at least edible but lacked any flavour whatsoever. There was no over-flowing of lettuce or anything from the lot burger, the buns were burnt when they came out though which didn't bode too well for this joint. Not sure I would be back here any time soon.
Melbfoodie
Bland food.... Tried twice now as the reviews on here are good but I find the burgers to be bland and the chips are the really fat kind without any seasoning or flavour
Ebdjdshbjdhsbjhbjdhbjhsdb
They gave me the wrong order. Watch your order they stuff it up!
Sammy
Prefer the chicken burgers here! But everything is really delicious! Especially when you swap the bun for toast!
Sarah Catherall
Best Old School Hamburger In Town. If you are looking for a good old fashion hamburger and chips.... Look no further than Danny's Burgers! They are like the hamburgers I remember having as a kid; so big you have to hold it with two hands, full of flavour, juicy and just plain delicious!! The chips are never soggy and the service is always fast and friendly. It is our once a week tradition..... I will never tire of Danny's Burgers! Yum, yum, yum!!!
Gaz Buddy
I always come back to Danny's .
Such a good burger !
Good work guys :)
Savio Roy
Best!. My favorite Burger joint. Will easily make the hour, round trip for them.

GREAT BURGERS. Dannys is great, 1 of the best burgers around but NO COKE !!!!!!!!! .............PEPSI..............YUK !!!!!!!

Classic. If you love burgers you have to come to Danny's
I Love Food.com
Loved burgers great place awesome food have to go
RnG
Great burger with a great price! Chips are not my liking though... Overall, is it better than Andrew's Burger? Hmmmm not sure but there is something about Andrew's Burger...
Clinton Knight
One of my faves. Classic burgers. The meat is awesome. Good and cheap. Great service. I'm not sure what people expect when they come here, Danny's just serves real burgers for a good price. Go to Grill'd and pay more if you want something with bells and whistles.
Angus Middleton
Danny's Burgers is completely overhyped. Burgers were hardly any better then those of the local fish and chip shop, only thing it has going for it is the late night trading hours
The Jester's Taste
Best burgers and even better mixed grill at an awesome price
Jamie McGee
BEST BURGERS IN MELBOURNE..if not the world. Chicken with the lot with 3 dim sims is my favourite!
Facebook User
Top burger place!. Great burger joint with really inexpensive meals. Served quite quickly even though it was really busy and paid $20 for two burgers and chips! Delicious home made burgers and crispy chips at a great price. definitely worth a visit!
Dxncxn
Respect. I had the single with the lot on a stinking hot afternoon. It was nice to see the cook smashing down the meat patties onto the hotplate. The meat was nice - a good char and not too much interference with the beef - could've done with more salt though. I like how they have confidently stuck with the traditional bun and not caved in to the current trend for brioche-ish bread. By the looks of some reviews on here it appears that the Ys and the Millennials have grown up thinking that a good burger bun needs to be like a cake (a short life of McDs might do that)!
Darren Gilbert
For the burger conno-sewer. What a bland, sloppy mess this thing was!
No taste to speak of, dripping with watery tomato.
They got the only $11.50 they'll ever get from me!
Eidlog
Meh. Pros: cheap, quick, e.... Meh.
Pros: cheap, quick, excellent eggs for the burgers
Cons: stale bread, no beetroot, sauce badly distributed, meat less thrilling, all of the hipsters go there.
Big Eyes For A Big Tummy
Finally got to check out after seeing the high ratings on urban. disappointed, really not sure what the hype is about. very average burger - don't like the bun, just the type you'd get from an average fish and chip store and texture to that of a quick-sale supermarket bread/bun. Chips looked nicely golden and crisp but too powdery for my liking. The meat pattie was too salty. so many better places... a hit for its late hours?
Stephanie.jade.coia
Anyone that loves a mouth watering burger that takes two hands to hold... Danny's burgers will not let you down! With meat patties being prepared infront of your eyes there's no doubt that Danny's is only the best and freshest burger place in melbourne.. Generous portions that will not leave you unsatisfied!
Only Free Range Chicken
Decent burgers.
El Capitano
I've never been disappoint at Danny's.
It's usually after midnight when I go and it hits the spot every time.
Don't expect that gormet crap, just a good honest burger.
Julie
Decent Place. Good feed, hamburgers are alright but could do with more flavour. Drove about an hour to get there probably wont go again but would definitely drop in occasionally if I was from the area.
Ritchie
Always yum. Always fun.
Foodhunterxxx
The review is fine as the neighbour is kind. DRY! Average and nothing special. Yes it's dry for burger and chips. Overpriced for what's been offered. The area around here have pretty much so called highly rated food but that might only appeal to the neighbourhood so guys, don't even bother to travel here to dine.
Professor Piehead
They are fish n chip style burgers stupid. Some of the comments on here really make me laugh.
Reviewers went to the trouble of going to North Fitzroy but didn't spend 30 seconds to check what they were going there for, there must be 20+ burger photos on here?
Danny's burgers are fish n chip shop style burgers, the same fish n chip style burgers Danny's have been making for 30 years.
Having said that I used to live locally and standards seem to have slipped somewhat, the quality is OK but 12 bucks for a burger with the lot is a little steep.
Burger Girl
I have been going to Danny's burgers 4 four yrs now. I know the burgers are fantastic. They are way way better than the crap they serve @ mc Donald's or Hungry jacks. U got to be stupid to think that it's just an average burger.
The service is great & I believe the people who don't like Danny's dont know a great burger when they see one.
Mavric
Just dont get it.... Cannot understand what the fuss is about, I have had burgers here over the years and they are consistently poor. Pretty much the same hamburger you would get at any local fish and chip shop - mediocre would be kind.
Marcus Crabb
Just had a burger today from Danny's . Was a quality bite to eat. Nothing crazy but more like a really good fish an chip shop burger.
Jozef
It's OK. The burgers here seemed to be what you'd expect to find at a random fish and chip shop. That pre-bagged oily yet dry taste feel.
Really wasn't in to it and couldn't understand what the hype was about.
The service was great though! Friendly people. As I realised that I placed a wrong order and went to upgrade it with the lot, they insisted on not charging me for the few dollars difference.
Nice service! But burgers = average.
Andrew
Came here with a negative mindset, expecting the worst. Left the store with even worse than the worst, if that's even possible.

The patties are dry, overcooked and flavourless. I really don't understand what the 'hype' is. It is probably because of a review from a food critic that was made many years ago, and they're feeding of this. How unfortunate for the individuals that are subjected to the terrible burgers of this establishment.

Not sure what the worker's problems are, but they need to fix their attitude. Operating with some sort of superiority complex doesn't help the fact that your burgers are terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.

Oh, I forgot to mention; the burgers are terrible.
Kell
No.. Just, no.

Both the chicken and beef burgers here taste like any other burgers from tacky, suburban fish and chip shops.

Don't understand what the hype is about. At all.
Jess
I am with the comment below. I went out of my way to come on here and write this because the large gentleman was SO rude, no customer service, and speaks in such a degrading way. I think he would be better suited to no customer interaction whatsoever. Another two customers now lost because of this guy.
Robert Villella
Rude service. The large man at the front was INCREDIBLY RUDE. first, he overcharged us by ten dollars, claiming that he had accidentally given change for a twenty instead of a ten, and that we now owed him ten dollars, and that if we didn't like it we could take a look at the security camera footage because "the cameras don't lie". we begrudgingly obliged, despite being 100% sure that he was wrong.

later, upon realising that he had left his bag at danny's, my friend returned to pick it up. when he got there, the large man at the counter asked him for $50 to give him his back back, claiming: "the way i see it, you could go and spend money on a new bag, or, pay me $50 bucks to get your bag back". he refused, and the bag was later returned by another staff member.

having been a long term customer of danny's i was appalled at the behaviour of this individual, and as a result will not be going there in the future. i will also be contacting the management of the establishment and informing them of their employee's behaviour. absolutely atrocious.
Quyen
Cheap as chips!. Def in my top 5 for sure! Old school decor that brings back memories, super friendly staff who cracks jokes with customers and cheap as chips delicious burgers. What more can you want!
Wendy Yi-Chia Wu
Best steak burgers in town! Nuff said.
Archie J
Slow and really rude staff, burgers not that great. Used to like this place but service has gone to the dark side.
Stuart A
The Cartoon Burger. If you like old school burgers then Danny's is for you. A slightly drier burger and bun which is not drowning in oil, covered with flavour enhancers or a vast array of condiments. A minimalist Burger that would look at home in any episode of the Flintstones.

However if you are all about super greasy burgers, multiple condiments and a vast array of toppings on a burger, whether or not it has a skewer to hold it together, whether or not it is perfectly medium-rare or if there are enough Hipsters buying burgers at said restaurant to warrant the purchase... Then maybe you should go out and spend two to three times more than you would at Dannys for a meal.

Seriously though these guys consistently reproduce the best $6-9 burgers that I have eaten. If you are after old school look no further...
Paesha
Not sure what the hype is here. Always busy so decided to check it out on way home one night. Only real positive is that it's open late. Burger tasteless, couldn't even taste the cheese. Like an old-school fish and chip shop with food to match. Definitely much better burgers out there.
Julie
Family Business. Our first meal in Fitzroy after our first wander up and down the historic streets. This burger joint has plenty of bar style seating, facing a full length wall mirror which meant you weren't staring at the tv or wall but could enjoy the view of the passing parade. Fresh mince was turned into a good sized, tasty hamburger. Great service, plenty of condiments. We will return.
Ocean Girl Charlie
One big giant MEH. Nice looking place, seats dinner bar style with TV's up to watch while you wait, good service. The chips were so bland, even with salt, but I was there for the burger so I pushed them aside. It's a fish and chip style burger which I would generally like, and this had some raving reviews...but he meat was bland, and overall the burger was unextraordinary.
Very confused to why this is considered a wonderful burger, it's not even on the same page as Andrews hamburgers in Albert park.
Billy Da Clown
Best Burgers Ever!. These were the best tasting burgers I have ever had.
Heidi Hoe
Pretty ok burgers but NO BEETROOT?! What is this?! An Aussie burger without beetroot isn't an Aussie burger.
Joanne Clarke
Awful. Just went to Danny's with hubby for lunch. place was full of flys and really grubby looking. we should have left then. Lamb burger was like leather. Maybe a good place late at night after a few drinks and you are just plain hungry. I can't for the life of me understand these great reviews. the flys alone are off putting.
Erin Mc
Open late. I don't know if i would call these the best burgers in Melbourne but after a night of drinking they certainly hit the spot! They are BIG burgers so you always feel satisfied and they're always busy so they have to be doing something right.
Chill Bill
Heaven. If jesus made burgers this is where he should sell them!!!
Nicole
Over hyped. My friend and I both love a good burger hit and after trying to get a burger at Huxtaburger and them being sold out of buns we decided to give Danny's a go for that old school burger love. And all I can say is they hype far exceeded the burger. I got the lot with pineapple and there wasn't a lot of flavour and the patty mainly consisted of sausage meat. It wasn't overly greasy which was good. Don't get me wrong it was a perfectly ok burger but now I've tried it I don't need to revisit again. Sorry but it's a +1 to Andrew's for the old school burgers for me.
Claudia
Best Burger. Annoyed with all the hype for trendy burgers when you cant beat a traditional burger and Danny's is the best in melbourne
Penelope
Classic, Great Value. You simply can not get a better Burger than Danny's.
Lots of try hard trendy shops have opened in recent times but Danny's still reins supreme.
Melbournefoodie
How about these guys learn some CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! It really isn't hard, even if it's busy, surely you wouldn't talk like the 'big' guy to normal (non argumentative) customers? Save your cash and make it at home, oh, and don't even try requesting a runny yolk...
Danny
I am the owner so I do watch. Why are you? Justify that. By the way what did I write that was nasty? That you and foodie are the same people and you make up stories. Which confirms to me you are out to dirty the name of an establishment that has a great clientele base because of consistancy in quality of good food and service. I don't know who you are but I know that jesson and foodie are one.

-----20 Jan, 2013-----

How can foodie and jesson both reply to my review in a matter of 10 mins on Sunday night? Obviously watching dannys pretty close on urbanspoon. Please give me a break guys or is it just guy. Urbanspoon is here for people's experience good and bad but not for a make believe story telling fairy tale.

-----20 Jan, 2013-----

Hey jesson what a load of bollocks
from you aswell. After telling foodie about his culinary experience you decided to join urbanspoon on the 20 th of Jan and write 7 reviews on the same day. Hope people on urbanspoon have enough common sense to filter out the crap that certain people write.

Been going to Danny's for many years. Called up last nite and ordered 3 burgers and was told it was a 10-15 min wait, got there and waited 40 mins (which if the burger was good I wouldn't mind). The burgers were worse than I've ever eaten before. Not that we ate them any way. Burger buns were dry, meat patty was dry the onions where black charcoal and can not believe they can serve charcoal to someone. Was going to take it back and show them but didn't want to embarrass them in front of there customers. Very disappointed as I use to love the burgers there. From now on I will go to Andrews burgers or embassy or even my local fish and chip shop. Just not good enough.
Foodie
Disgusted with service. So I walked in on a Friday night excited to go to Danny's burgers, as I stepped in with my partner the cashier was rude and obnoxious. While waiting, the whole team had greeted everyone that entered the store and treated them nicely and yet were very rude towards us, to make me believe that they were racist. Thats how bad the service was!

The food was bland and patties were over cooked, and you could make this at home, even better.

Disappointed by this place and the attitude of everyone working there.

NEVER COMING BACK HERE AGIAN

@johnno and @danny

Don't be upset just because I gave a bad review based on my personal experience that you were so outraged you had to call me out :)

This is what urbanspoon is about, sharing your personal experience and speaking with your opinion, I am sorry if I offended you but that's how it is. If you are actually Danny the owner, you would be much more mature about this matter and treat it as constructive criticism. If not, I just laugh at how rude you are.
Kita
Real Beef!. The burgers are real beef burgers! Delicious and filling!
T-bone Tommy
Great, simple burgers, but not worth all the hype. Nothing really beyond what you can find in any good local fish'n'chip shop.
Joey Schintjer

I ate with my eyes and got a double, I managed to finish it because it was that good but boy am I stuffed. It was simple, fresh and tasty. Will definitely come again.
MyWisdomTeethHurt
9/10 - Great Burgers. This place is brilliant, nothing fancy - just great burgers. Tastes great, the staff are friendly, the feel of the place is unique and it is very well priced. It's open until late and even then the quality of the burgers are still great. If only they accepted EFTPOS. I highly recommend this burger joint.

Food: 9/10
Service: 9/10
Ambience: 9/10
Price: 9/10

One of the originals and the best.
No trendy stuff here, just hard core traditional burgers. Love that guy they call Bull
Bigeater
Cheap Good Burgers. Very Old school type burgers!
Prices are cheap and great.
Love it :) and the staff are so lovely too
Christopher Alex Pavlidis Garkinis
Mmmm. Their burgers actually are that good - dunno if the people who Reviewed it poorly went to the same place? Great buns...fantastic honest pure flavorus...The meat was perfect, sauce/relishes were yummy. After Huxtaburger, this is my Favorite Burger place in Melbourne!
Foodlover
Yes they are THAT good. Simple delicious no fuss. The way a burger diner should be as opposed to those pretensious 'gourmet burgers'. Well done danny boy!
Rowdy
Have been coming to this place for years, and it never fails. Just read a couple of reviews and some people just don't get it. Danny's has been around since 1945 and that's what they are ! Great old style burgers , nothing gourmet there just burgers how there supposed to be. Dropped in after the soccer tonight , the place was flat out and only had to wait bout 15 min for double with the lot. Once again it was tasty as usual. A tip for the guys , don't change a thing and keep up the fantastic work.
Danny J47
Lot of hype but average at best. After a lot of hype, decided to visit Danny's and had high expectations.
Ordered a double with the Lot and some chips.
Burger came out and while the size was quite huge, it was pretty ordinary. The buns weren't really that fresh, and the meat patties were quite dry and bland. Other than that, not really any special sauces to go along with the burger. I wouldn't call this a gourmet burger, but more a standard burger you'd get from a fish n chip/chicken shop. More so the place you'd visit after a massive night out.

If you're after a better gourmet burger, prolly better off going Beatbox Kitchen, Huxtaburger or even Grilld.
Liz
Delicious!!!!
Ash Donny
Really delicious patties the meat was so tasty! Great dining experience, felt like I was sitting at a diner in America, really casual & simple place who put more emphasis into the quality of their food than their signs. Daring and admirable. Chips were awesome too!
Wally
Burgers!. Great awsome burger that we had here at Dannys!
Loved it guys! Keep it up!
Cochin
Cute diner, good prices, burgers...eh. It's great having a late night burger joint available, and the diner is cute, but the burger patties were thin and somewhat bland. The chips were fantastic, and the ingredients generally fresh and not overly processed.A generous serve, and good value, but the burgers themselves nothing exciting.
Mikica
Simple as that.. This joint is just the best. No doubt, no question in my mind. Been going for nearly 20 years & I've never had a problem. Try the burger, yum.
Thefoodfather
Someone wrote something about being dissapointed how the burgers are not American and how they should have American sodas. Reality check, this is Australia the burgers are good and having tasted the burgers in America, they are nit that great. So do yourself a favour and tuck in!
Juan
Nice burgers. After a big night out Danny's delivered and hit the spot. The boys behind the counter were very nice also and courteous.
Ruby-Jean
Good old-fashioned burger love.... I'm sure the guys at Danny's don't set out to create the best burger in Melbourne - but simply a tasty, old fashioned and home style burger. Unlike one reviewer, you would certainly not compare them to a burger from Rockpool - that's just laughable. I also don't think the staff at Rockpool would serve the after midnight inebriated varietals like Danny's do - with no judgement. The burgers are definately along the fish n chip shop line, but they are well seasoned, the salad is crispy and the bacon & cheese add a melted, caramelised touch. When I'm going home late at night and in a state of hunger, I know where I will choose to go and eat some real, tasty burgers given the limited McCrappy options available at that time.
Tao Weis
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!! I .... DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!
I am dumbfounded to understand what it is that everyone raves about. These would have to be about the most average burgers I have ever come accross. I have eaten better burgers from small sandwich bars. The buns are boring and there is next to no flavor in the patties. Tried them twice, just in case it was a bad day the first time, and just the same. Seriously boring. Get over it people.
Farmercosta
Went to Danny's tonight and had the steak sandwich WOW and I thought the burgers are good don't get me wrong great burger but the steak sandwich what can I say Iam still licking my fingers keep up the great work boys.

-----14 Jul, 2012-----

Went to Danny's on friday had no problem, top burger top service by the short big fella but needs to shave and put on a hat long live Danny's burgers.
Mike Mike
TERRIBLE, DISGUSTING service!! I arrived at the restaurant with high expectations due to its increasing popularity and ordered a double meat burger with the lot and had to wait 28 minutes for my burger which they had 'apparently' forgot about. I waited as I saw the people who had ordered after me receive their meals before me. I FINALLY received my burger and went to find a local place to sit down. As I opened up my burger I discovered that they had given me an incorrect order with only 1 piece of meat, I stormed back into the restaurant and told them that there was only 1 piece of meat and they didn't even apologise. I further had to wait another 15 minutes for my burger and when I received it I asked why it took so long and the chef behind the grill started telling me off calling me a 'smart ass' I asked to see the manager but the chef repeatedly told me to go away and eat my burger. Resulting in an absolute disgusting experience which I will not hesitate to ring up and complain to the manager. Awful!
Company Flow
Almost Perfect. Consistently great traditional burger. No fancy stuff here. Single with the lot every time, but could do with some more sauce, so try to add some pineapple to get it juicy.
Aiden
Amazing. Make sure if you're in the area to stop in a get a burger. I've been going for years and will continue to do so!
Vivan
Yummo!. Fantastic massive burgers. Lovely fries as well. Yum definitely would return back here :)
Bigkahunaburger_fabbo
The best burgers in Melbourne, like a diner style burger. Big, filling, tasty, great value for money, juicy meat paddy's, fast and friendly service. Chips can be sometimes excellent but on rare occasions the chips have been undercooked. Only negatives about the place are sometimes its a bit squashy if you wanna eat in and tv volume in there can be annoyingly loud. Overall I like the place and regularly go back, the burgers are to good to worry about the volume of the tv.
Mark Seaton
Like a good homemade burger your Mum used to do... when she wasnt drunk. Ignore the polarising views, a fine burger, well worth a visit.
Bansheebeat
I'm 21 and have been going here since I was a kid and will continue for as long as it's open. Great burgers, great staff and great prices. Honestly, you can't go wrong with Danny's.
Panny
Exellent night. Finally went in 2 Danny's last w'end. Have heard a lot about it in the few weeks I've been in Melbourne. The well-bearded guy behind the counter recommended the double meat with the lot burger as the perfect ratio of meat to ingredients, and recommended the lamb burger for my girl as well, said it was a good zesty bite.. Both were spot on. He came back later to check if the burgers were going down well. Really good food and given the time and the rush of the place, surprisingly well-spoken service. Will definitely come back if I have the chance.
Damian Bee
Truly awesome.
ChefDaParty
In a week where we sampled amazing burgers from Rockpool, Huxtaburger and The Tramway, Danny's came a very, very distant 4th - dry, grey and bland. Chips were good and staff efficient but I have no idea what the fuss is about.
Liling333
Whats the fuss about. Average burgers if your drunk meat pattie was bland and tasteless their are so many better burgers going around.
Tuxadoro
Superb.... Ticked another "must try" off the list today, and couldn't be happier (or fuller!). Doubted that it could live up to expectations, but Dannys smashed them with a double meat with cheese and bacon, and a bag of sensational, salty, chippy goodness. Burger was great, from the well seasoned patties, to the toasted bun that should be a legal requirement for burgers, the bacon, cheese, lettuce, onion and sauce were all in perfect proportion that gave the burger sublime balance. Did I just say "better than Andrews" ? Very very possibly, and if you like Andrews or Embassy (ie Old School), and haven't tried Dannys, get there ASAP
Tom Harris
If its the only thing open at night Nd you're drunk, it's not bad. but during regular hours the fish n chip shop down the road do better burgers. and they don't run out of dim sims.
Emceelegit
9 out of 10 for burgers. Open all hours of the day / night. Only fault is the cheese they use but everything else is awesome! Recommended
Julo
Been waiting to go for a long long time. Like many others have said its a good burger, but still can't work out all the hype. Glad Danny's is doing well and no doubt they will continue to do so, but not somewhere I would go out of my way to eat at again. Good local if ur lucky to be close
Liam Pooleson
Coota burgers! Chips are average, but the milkshake is top notch.
Pasky
Great greasy spoon! Authentic American style diner burgers. Tremendous value for food ratio, like being back in North America.
Natalie Edwards
Just Average. Ok burger for it's good price, but that's it. There are quite a few local pubs around the 5km radius that serve far tastier burgers. Danny's is no longer the institution it used to be.
Paul Melbourne
It;s just a Burger - RIP Danny's. Been going to Danny's for nearly 30 years. Has been a consistant performer for most of these but noticed the taste has become somewhat bland in the last 12 months.

Had another try tonight and have to say its still a nice burger by fish 'n' chip shop standard...but thats ALL IT IS. Price is good, service friendly but this is NOT one of Melbournes Best Burger's. People that say it is either eat here way too much or have not tried true Aussie Tasting burgers like the Beatbox Kitchen, Union Hotel or Embassy.

A sad day...but sorry guys - just a burger
Food Critic
This place makes the best old school burgers. U can order 1, 2 or 3 pattie burgers. They are reasonably priced. I live on the other side of town and it's worth going there. Best Burger restaurant in Melbourne;)
Cherrychikita
Simplicity at its finest. Great burgers
Uqui
Simple and Good. The burgers here are simple - beef, chicken, lamb and either single, double or triple. You can order them with the lot (which is everything EXCEPT pineapple) or you can just add one or two toppings. There is limited seating for eating in, but the place is designed to just be good plain burgers which are tasty on their own merits. Not on the mayo, not on the bun or anything like that, just because they are good burgers. The steak sandwiches are also pretty good with moist and tender steak. You can also order chips if you are feeling a bit peckish still.

Good burgers, and recommended.
L3ilani
Good enough to eat but i wouldn't write home about it.

I had the lamb burger and chips plus a $3 bottle of water. While it wasnt bad it wasn't great either. It was very neat, patty was a little thin. There is a lot of grill'd bashing on here but their burgers are much better and taste fresher. Dannys chips were fine but plain. Atmosphere was fine for an old school takeout joint Id go again to try their beef burgers but I wont expect much
Hamburgler
The ultimate burger. Nuff said

Good, but not great. Give them a go if you ate in the area.

Trading on reputation. Danny's Burgers is trading on its reputation these days. The food was ordinary, particularly the renowned dim sims.

Different parts of the meal were ready way before others and when we pointed this out the staff were rude.

Despite its popularity with the Fitzroy set, Danny's Burgers is past its prime.

Nothing but the best old school burgers. The best "no frills" burgers around.
If you want a hamburger the way they cooked them at your local fish n chip shop 10 or 20 years ago, then this is the only place you'll get one.
Never had a bad one from Danny's. Staff are always happy. Top marks.

I do really like bugers and chips from cafes but i havent been to danny burgers for long time i guess there still pretty good

Tasty and simple. Bit over priced for the food but awesome late night fare.
Wonderfull
Needs more pickle.

Gee Abs looks hot tonight, cant wait to get her home... Oh yeh the burgers are good, 8/10. Chips are ok, not the best, should take them home for some bed snacks
Franwella
Good, proper burgers. None of that franchise stuff. A relaxed atmosphere and tasty burger at any hour, this is the place to go.

They were fresh but too dry. Decided to try this place after so long but won't go back for a burger... Didn't live up to my expectations of what it should have been like

Beats Andrews!. Great burgers and always friendly even when theyre busy. Great value for money!!! Why pay $10 at Grill'd where u can get a burger with the lot for $6.50. Great chips and of course the steam dimmies!!!...my local fave..Long live Dannys
Mollie
Not good. I had eggshells in my burger and the chips were so salty they burnt my mouth. will not be going back.

Umm Average. Can't for the life of me work out why this place is so popular. The burgers are OK. The lettuce tasted like it had been processed and pre-shredded and the patty was thin & dry. I dunno, I live around the corner and have tried Dannys a couple of times over the past few years and just cannot work out why people love it so much. Maybe they have had just a few off days and I was unfortunately there to experience it.

Local. I live right around the corner from it. I use to have a phase where I went to Danny's atleast once to twice a week! I think I got over it. But the burgers are real, cooked in front of you! It's how you would make it at home. I always get the Lot with a couple of fried dim sim. They make The Best fried dim sims!!!! always so crispy and crunchy. love it :) Oh and their chicken burger is pretty nice too! I wouldn't say it's the best burgers in Melbourne, I'm pretty sure there's other good burgers these days with the growing competitiveness in the food industry. But overall, a great place to have a burger / dimmy fix! opens til late so you can grab something to eat when everything else is closed! :) hehe

Burgers were ok, chips were crispy but not a good potato flavour. Not in the same league as Andrews.

1956 I followed Fitzroy and ate Danny's burgers. Mid 90s Ffitzroy went to Brisbane and I continued to eat Danny's burgers. Yesterday I went to see Collingwood win and and afterwards ate a Danny's burger. My football allegiance may have changed but not my love for Danny's burgers.

-----30 Sep, 2010-----

1956.. Spent my youth enjoying Dannys, am going for lunch tomorrow, can't wait.

Friendly & Fantastic. My son and I drive from Essendon to eat these burgers.... don't believe the naysayers.... experience Danny's for yourself, AWESOME.

Late night burgers. I've been busting to go to this place for ages to try one of their burgers, and we just happened to be stumbling past at about 2am and a whiff of burger went up my nose.

the burger itself is alright, but it gets tastier as you move towards the centre. the chips are good too. They're open til 3am on weekends i think

Yes well . . .. The place always seemed busy when ever I drove past no matter what time of day it was, and after a recommendation from a friend I thought I would give them a go. Unfortunately it was disappointing. Very average burger, comparable to a very average or below average take away bar which I was hoping this wasn't going to be considering the hype. I may be tempted to give it another chance, but it's been a year since Ive been there and I have had no inclination to go back.

Doesn't like it. I ordered my burger without bacon and eggs because I do not prefer them. Unfortunately, the burger came with eggs and bacon smell and it was disgusting.

Good but Over-rated. Decent burgers, no doubt, but I personally prefer the Park View pub down the road - they due a more substantial burger with nicer tasting meat.

Tasty, tasty, tasty. Highly recommend a burger with some hot chips on a Sunday lunch post-hangover. Brings you quickly back to life.
Dan
Sometimes tasty. The burgers are thin and salty...not very gourmet at all...but awesome after your 10th beer. I'm sure I'll be back.

Not that great. I'm a massive burger feind so was eager to try Danny's as it came highly recommended. These are genuine, made-as-you-wait hamburgers, that's for sure, but they're just not that great. The burgers are huge and greasy and condiments are few and far between. We had an overwhelmingly gluggy meal in the end. Won't be returning.

They definately need better bread rolls. This is not the 1960's
Toby
Nothing better than a real hamburger. Sit down at the long bar on a stool and enjoy!
Clint
Without a doubt the best burgers in Melbourne, been going there for years and never had a bad meal. Rock n roll guys
Nikkez
This place is an institution. Highly recommended when u need a burger fix!

Great Burgers. If you're in the north of melbourne go here for the best burgers. If you're in the south, go to Andrew's burgers. Danny's has one advantage of having seating and good classic burger stall ambience. Andrew's burgers taste slightly better in my opinion though.
Dani Durik
Danny's definetely makes the best burgers around.. Great service and unreal burgers at a reasonable price..
Michael
Seriously the best burgers in Melbourne. been coming here for the past 5 years and every time I go here it's good sevice and good food.
Mic Cullen
Great value. Excellent burgers, not expensive. My wife and I had a burger each (with the lot) and a large chips for $17.50. I'd recommend the small chip next time, they're huge servings.

Onion is diced and grilled on the patties. My wife would prefer it without onion but she still loved it.

Authentic décor is terrific too.
Nick Jackson
Pretty good burgers. Very cheap. Only bad thing is the lack of enough seating and the traditional white bread.
