Review Queen Margaret - North Fitzroy

Excellent Italian style venue and pizzas. Delicious with nice gluten free options. Good family option with kids and they provided colouring in pages which kept the kids entertained 👍🙏
Rachel Gray
My favourite local. I have ordered take away three times in the last month and each time the pizza was fresh, delicious and the staff when I rang were lovely and helpful. So ridiculously good.
John Kelly
Fantastic pizzas, young staff members working who were great and prove that young people can provide great service. We will be back.

My favourite pizza place in Melbourne so far. Well worth the hour drive one way!! Their broccolini pizza and pistachio gelato blow my mind every time. The QM salad is superb too can not this recommend this place enough :)
Natalia Ivanisova
Ordered salmon pizza. it was mostly onion. Disappointed
Two Sheds
Unusual. It’s pizza where the crust is the star and the toppings enhance it. We had numbers of different pizzas and loved them all. Very impressive. Recommended.
David Holmes
Great smelling place, fast friendly service. Recommend by a friend

Mum says 'best pizza in the whole wide world'. It seems a bit extreme but I'm not sure I can actually think of better pizza either!
Burt Michael
Fantastic fresh pizza! Very tasty and worth the drive!
Simone Manutahi
Best pizza ever. This place is consistently great.

Went here for a casual dinner with friends. Was lucky to get a booking and that the restaurant had a enough seating for the current covid restrictions.

We ordered a vegetarian, garlic and Italian and pancetta pizza. My favourite was the vegetarian, as the garlic was a bit too bready and the pancetta and sausage pizza was a little salty.

Overall I enjoyed the meals and everything was reasonably priced. Will say that I was a bit surprised that they weren't serving tap (free) water and instead we had to pay for bottle water which might be a result of the current situation.

It’s a nice place, very well set up for kids. We turned up and the kids were provided with activities (colouring in) to keep them occupied and they could also win a prize. Kids also got free dessert before 7. Service was excellent. They have a good selection of craft beers.

The pizza dough was good, crunchy right through, but perhaps the crust could have been a little chewier. The toppings were very imaginative - I particularly liked the special. However they do use a gas oven so it doesn’t really have that Smokey taste that I prefer - it’s a bit of a personal preference. A place to go with the kids, but for the pizza I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve tried the Margherita (of which they have 3 varieties).

Returned after about a year. What's happened? Ordered my favourite " Sally... the eggplant one)and it was so different. The base was terrible - very cake like and sweet, and the top was very cheesy with fewer vegies and the sauce quite bland.
Back to Meine Lieber and Ferdinand ( look them uo - they're great!
Jessie
Ridiculous. Thought we would try again after some years. We ordered 2 pizzas. One, plain base with just tomato sugo, my 2 year old is allergic to dairy, and then one San Danielle. Not on the menu but they charged a ludicrous $18 for the plain pizza! I could not believe it and it was awful. The San Danielle was ordinary too, $22. Prices are far too expensive for what are very basic, nothing extraordinary pizzas, they bring a whole new meaning to 'thin' crust. Were local, not going back. The prices are more than Supermaxi, hands down a 100% better pizza and they are also much more expensive than 1000 lire. Also a far more superior pizza and cheaper. Unbelievable and feeling ripped off, especially about the pizza with just sauce.

Great pizza, loved it for many years, especially Sock it to Me and My only Crush. But please stop using Foodora to deliver your pizzas. Second time they’ve cancelled on me after waiting 75minutes for delivery. Your food is great, please, please ditch Foodora!
Field Days
Skip this pathetic joke - much better, authentic options
A good pizza does not have a base like a crumbly, dry sao.
A good pizza is not cooked on a conveyor belt going through a grilling machine.
A good restaurant does not have staff who stand next to the till chatting to themselves when people are waiting to pay.

I’d heard about the legendary Margheritas at Queen Margaret long before I migrated up north, but it took me close to two years after moving to the neighbourhood before I contemplated eating here. Call it my penchant for pasta over pizza, or the many pizza places within close proximity of my house – from the famed Supermaxi to the cheap and cheerful Bimbos – but I decided that it was finally time to pay Queen Margaret a visit.

Went the other night and really enjoyed ourselves the food was flavorsome So Delicious, Pizza amazing !!! and the lasagna was out of this world, Service, Great, too, WE will definitely be back.
Andreas
Gosh, I adore the restaurant itself - it's cosy with a warm ambience - and the staff seemed friendly and attentive, but based on my experience last night the food is not for me. There was a very thick layer of mozzarella in each of our dishes, to the point where it was off-putting. The margherita had both baked mozzarella (lots of it) as well as cold buffalo mozzarella added after cooking. This wasn't labelled on the menu and the excessive amount of cheese means you can't taste the tomato and basil as well. Lasagne seemed to be sheet after sheet of pasta and bechamel and very minimal bolognese, and it was only just warm in the middle. Maybe it was an off night so I'll try again but note to restaurant staff: large amounts of unrequited cheese is not a good thing

Friendly staff, reliable pizzas and a relaxed environment. We ate with three of us with two pizzas and the entrees. Standout was the polenta chips and calamari. Great feed
Iris Myandowski
Yeah this is pretty good. We had the pumpkin pizza and it wss cheesy and pumpkiny as promised. Gluten free bases if that's your sort of thing.
Saucy
Prefer it to Mojo. Some might find it boring in comparison but it's simple pizza that is really good. A little bit pricer than your standard pizza .
Jack Wang
Have been to this place several times in the past couple of years. Good variety of gourmet pizza choices, very family friendly with kiddy drawing activities provided, accommodating and friendly staff. And the pizzas have all been really nice!
Food Doc
Very decent pizzas on the pricier side. Excellent sides and wet dishes. Great range of classic pizza choices and some more interesting ones. Good wine list that isn't too pricey. Worth a go.
John Smith
These guys do the thin-base gourmet toppings thing. An by geez they do it well.
If you're a local and you've got a wise nut, you knock off work early Friday and head for a coffee at Cavallini, then when the Cav' shuts up shop you slide a meter next door and you're in pizza heaven. Perfectly balanced flavors that are best enjoyed on summer days out front with loved ones. You might even see a scantily clad model on a Ducati tootle past on Queens for a total Italian experience;)
Dominique K
Best pizza I have ever had ! And I've tasted pizza all over Italy! We also ordered lasagne and it was amazing too! So tasty, flavours were authentic and on point just like home cooked meals from your grandma! I've been dreaming about their pizza ever since! We also ordered the Nutella and pear crumble calzone and it was divine! Cannot fault the food at all!
Fiona Doyle
Had the slow roast pizza. Base was a good balance of thinness with a thicker crust. Meat was super flavor some and soft, combination of other toppings worked super well together. It was $19 which is a little on the expensive side, but the flavor was there. Pizza was ready in the time nominated. Guy who served me was very personable. Will be going back to try other pizzas soon.

Poor Service. Went there last night and sat outside with my partner, and was totally ignored by the wait staff. The lovely waitress kept looking at us, but would not come outside to take our order.
Total CRAP service
BIGSPAG
First time dined here sat nite. Nice setup, cosy place.
Warm greeting , simple things like Water on table and waiter ask for drinks. The wife and I shared a platter, focaccia calamari and the croquette. Well presented and delish. Had room for pizza and it didn't disappoint . Service was good. Highly recommend this place.
Scotty
Got take away pizza from here and I must say I am not a huge pizza fan but these pizzas are bang on. Ordered two, the Roast Lamb and the king of Scotland both worth a try. Would recommend.
Geoff Smith
Great pizza great service
Stuck In Transit
These guys know how to make a serious margarita pizza, and not just one, but 3 different versions of a margarita to be exact! What better way to eat a 24-hour fermented thin crust dough then with one of their ’boutique beers’ available.
Alcobon
Truly great pizza!. The food is amazing and this is now the Gradi of Clifton Hill! Everything we had was remarkably tasty. The service was friendly and attentive. Great all rounder.
Smith.stephen55
A tad slow. Went there for a quick pizza before an appointment at 9.30, ordered meal at 8.25, had a couple of drinks but meal had not appeared by 9.20. Got meal as takeaway in end in order to make 9.39 appointment.
Thought service was inattentive but can't comment on meal as we haven't had it yet, it turned into a takeaway as I described, yet to taste

Dissapointed. Went here on NYE and was extremely dissapointed.
The food was great but the service was perhaps the worst I have ever recieved.
Our waitress was rude, unatentive and generally looked like she didnt want to be there.
Will never ever return.
Digesto
Not bad and a good addition to the scene, but expensive for what it is. But....

I lament for the Lamb of Albero. I HOWL for the the portal to open and the fat back base to beat back to the table with jazz. Come on man! Come back!
Bam
Love it. Seriously good food, great pizzas and friendly staff that know their stuff.
The backroom is kid friendly so can get rowdy. If you are grown ups, ask for a table out front.

Go there.
Michael
Just picked up takeaway pizza. Ordered pizza without cheese due to lactose intolerance. Home now and pizza is covered in cheese. Thanks for nothing.
Queen Of Food
Lovely, crispy crust with a soft, light middle is a perfect base for well balanced toppings. This restaurant has a good selection of pizzas to suit everyone and the service is friendly and welcoming. Worth a visit!

I have to say after many years of trying pizza all over the world and Melbourne, Queen Margaret would have to be the best! Absolutely amazing, beautiful crust, lovely fresh toppings and a variety o fdelicious, very hard to choose toppings. The staff were great as was the relaxing atmosphere. This is our new favourite, thanks so much :)

What a gem! Was visiting a friend in the neighbourhood on Friday night and we ended up having dinner here. Friendly and unpretentious service, delicious pizzas and wine - a perfect local restaurant that you can count on for a good evening. Thank you.

Best pizza in Clifton Hill. After passing by this place so many time I finally decided to give it a try. Oh boy, I've been missing out on some of the best food Clifton Hill has to offer.

Thin base, with a classic Italian tomato sauce, quality toppings, you can not go wrong here. It is a little more expensive than alternatives, but the quality makes up for that. My pizza was $18, there should have been a few slices left over, but it was so tasty I had to keep eating.
Barney
This restaurant should have more advertisement as it's such a gem. Located on the main drag of Queens Parade, it's a quaint yet quirky place. The pizza toppings are unique and tasty but you must try the Nutella & Pear calzone dessert! Delicious!
Kyriacoum
Fantastic pizza excellent customer service nice atmosphere good prices great value for money. Will be back.
Louisesix
It doesn't get much better. I'm a local and tested Queen Margaret for the first time this week. The pizza was divine, perfect crust and very fresh ingredients, we had a salmon one, salami one and pumpkin one. But what will keep us going back is the great service...and of course the pizza!
Jules
How lucky am I to be a local?. Seriously the best pizza ever - I know its a huge call but believe me when I say it is wonderfully beautiful food...
I've found the service is usually excellent, although it was extremely busy on NYE and they were a little tardy however they did come back regularly and check back with us, so we knew we were not forgotten.
The food selection is excellent, is a wonderful quality and their wine list is good - but could be a bit more diverse/exciting. I'd like to see more of a range. They cater for big and little people and are exceptionally child friendly.
The back room is noisy, so I'd suggest a seat in the front of the restaurant or on the street with our current lovely weather.
All up, I highly recommend and guarantee you will soon be a regular. And best of all, they also do take away, so just call and collect....too easy!
Elenabertuna
Best Pizza ever!!!. We come here often for dinner and the pizza is always delicious!! Love everything about this place, friendly staff, great atmosphere and food is yum!!

Went with work mates for Xmas party.
Great food and attentive service. Recommend!

Ridiculously bad service... again. We live locally and have tried to support this establishment for the last couple years. After a number of pretty bad experiences with take away (like waiting up to an hour for 1 pizza) We avoided it for 6 months. There's no denying that when they get it right it's good, so I tried it again. Disappointingly, again the classic pizza place can't manage take away pizza. Barred for good this time. Rubbish excuses every time it happens and on this particular occasion, when one of the staff was apologising profusely to another customer about 20 minutes earlier for probably a similarly bad experience, we were left waiting 50 minutes for a pizza that was in fact sitting on top of the pizza oven. When we queried it we got an infuriating shoulder shrug, and the excuse "I've just come from out the back". The remaining 2 staff who'd been behind the counter for the entire time, scurry off. Seriously. No more excuses. There are so many more worthy local take aways than this terribly disappointing place that STILL can't get it right. I have never submitted a review before, but what else to do while munching on cold pizza?
Bb_anselmo
Yum. Fantastic!
Pizza was amazing and anti pasto was delicious.

TASTY SURPRISE. My friend lives locally , and after a warm stroll last Saturday night , we ventured past for pizza and a glass of wine ..
Are the pizzas a little light on topping , maybe , but it had lots of flavour and was extremely fresh tasting ....topped off with a nice selection of wine , I found staff extremely polite and attentive ..would DEFINETELY come back
The pizza makers although working hard still smiled and acknowledged patrons...sign off great service ...yummy

Best pizzas I've ever had, for Brits out there this is cheaper than Ask/Pizza Express etc and infinitely better. House red is amazing and you have to have the ice cream dessert. It comes from the deli next door and is very lovely indeed.

Outstanding staff and service. My daughter loves this restaurant and insisted to take us all there on Father's Day. The food was excellent and they have some really nice wines. But what truly impressed me was how attentive the staff was and how outstanding the service in general was! We had a great Father's Day, thank you Queen Margaret's team!
TJ
Good pizza but stingy with ingredients... I ordered the tiger and it only had 7 tiny little prawns.... Also got the sock it to me and only had 7 olives... Whatta rip off!
Foody
Lovely dinner!. Our first time at Queen Margaret last night. The food was lovely,( try the "sock it to me pizza). The pizzas were big but as we got to take the rest home, we had a bit of space to share a Nutella calzone which us to die for! Our waitress (who I assume was in charge) was very knowledgeable and it was really interesting to have a chat with her about food and wine! We will definitely be returning!
Doylee Doyle
I can only assume it has changed hands. Service was atrocious, food well below par. What a pity as it cost a bomb! And it is our local. Won't be returning

Take away better than eat in.. For some time, I took Queen Margaret pizzas to take away. When a guest came to visit, knowing the food, we ate in. It was a mistake. Our waitress wasn't particularly helpful and didn't generate a particularly enjoyable flow to the meal. When placing food roughly on the table, a substantial piece fell off the plate and on to the table. In most places, this would be replaced - but she simply picked the food off the tablet and put it back on the plate! Not very nice and I felt embarrassed having to experience this with my guest.
Dusty
New management or floor staff at least - highly organised and food as good as ever. Great experience we love this place for an early family dinner.
Beehee
Amazing!. I was weary to come here after reading all the terrible reviews about bad service but my partner and I have been to the cafe next door owned by the same people and the food is fantastic so we had to give Queen Margaret a try. From the moment we walked in the staff were incredibly attentive, offering drinks, explaining items on the menu and refilling water while we waited for our meal. When our meal did come, my gosh was it something! Pizza as good as the real stuff in Italy (I should know having eaten a good many pizzas all over Italy). The nutella and pear calzone for dessert was a real treat as well. Overall we were delighted with our experience at Queen Margaret and did not experience any of the bad service I was expecting. Would highly recommend this restaurant to all!
Nick
Good but Pricey. Great pizza and tasting plates are a highlight. Although its pretty pricey when you take a family of 5 with three kids under eight and with a beer and glass of wine it costs $150. Service friendly but could be more attentive. Good location, decor and atmosphere. A few more mains on the menu other than pizza would be good. Chicken cottoletta was great. Beer selection good.

So rude.. I dined at this place some time ago now and i don't like to leave bad reviews but the fact that i am still so upset is an indication that i need to say my piece. I can not believe how rude the staff and what I think might be the owner were. If you are going to run a business based on customer service you best check your attitude, that is what makes people come back.
Alex
Terrible service. As a regular of this place since it opened, I was shocked about how we were treated by the manager. They forgot our pizza order and we waited for over an hour for it. A table that arrived after us had their pizza comped. When we spoke to the belligerent manager we were met with aggression and hostility. She would not comp our pizza even though we had been waiting even longer than the other table. Shameful service. Will not go back again.
Supersemitowelman
A stand out on Queens Parade. So glad I tried this place. Good selection of local beer and very good pizza. Service with a very genuine smile. What more could you ask for?
Foodie76
Kid friendly...what a joke?. We have eaten here before but not with our kids and it has been very pleasant. Then one night we decided to get takeaway pizzas and we had our children when we went in an ordered. As we were paying for our takeaway, the Maitre D (I'm assuming she was) told us to move away as they were busy, which is fine. BUT not only did she tell us to move away, she actually told us to go outside and wait in the freezing cold! I could not believe her more than poor attitude as she literally opened the door for us to get out. I asked her if she was joking, as I was so shocked, but with her smoke ridden breath she replied 'no, too busy to have you waiting inside.' No way will I go back there and let it be a warning, they are not kid friendly!
Miss B
The owner needs to remember a little key message - customer service. Three times we have attempted to dine in and eventually fed up left as the waitress has forgotten about us. We were thinking perhaps we had our invisibility cloaked on then we just remembered the care factor here is zero. On the one occasion we have had managed to try a pizza (ordered on phone) we have experienced a pretentious tasteless, over-priced load of nothing.
Ruby-Jean
Rushed Hour. Arrived for a (8:40pm) dessert stop and were informed that we needed to order immediately as kitchen closed at 9. We had previously let them know we were there for coffee / dessert only but this still lit a fire beneath them, taking our order twice by two separate people obviously desperate to finish up for the night.

The place seemed nice and the menu looked interesting. I was certainly excited to come back for a pizza. The dessert platter itself was OK. Sorbets, canoli, tiramisu and some cheese concoction - all of which were presented well and tasted good.

I was just disappointed with the rush to get us out so they could close up - and I hardly think 9:30pm is indicative of us overstaying our welcome. I might just sit on the idea of returning a little longer...
Gourmelicious
Awesome Stuff - Gabstar I w.... Awesome Stuff - Gabstar
I went there with a couple of mates and demolished a beautiful pizza, especially the base. That was the pizza No 17. It was nice but my favorite is the potato. We shared (for dessert) a huge bowl of mean gelati. Licked the bowl clean. Nothing wrong with it. I even saw my premiership teammate there; Tommy the Bish!!!
Iloveveggies
7/10. We liked our pizzas here. The bases were firmer and seemed to have been cooked for longer than many others (not a negative, just different), and toppings were good. Staff friendly. Would be happy to return.
Happy Customer
Great Pizza but skip the specials. Just wanted to leave a quick review to say that we are regulars at Queen Margaret. Love the service the staff are always warm. For a change I chose the pasta special that was a seafood linguini that sounded amazing on the menu. It was a taste sensation but the serve was an entree size. I do not like large size portions but honestly the size was ridiculous and the cost of the meal was close to $30. A rip off!!!!!!!!
Dianne
Queen Margaret is a must to experience and worth a drive to experience it. Locals in the area are very lucky. The shared plates were a delight and the Calamari simply magnificent. The bruschetta was outstanding from its presentation to taste. The pasta was ample and laced beautifully with lashings of seafood. Robert and Natalie Coco of Cavallini fame have produced another gem. We will be back and soon. Dianne.
Agrabah
What a shame..... It was really really good while they seemed to care and we ate there alot, but the last few times the pizzas are getting smaller and sadder... the base is still awesome, but the toppings are skimpy and thrown on.
...Also the service is weird and awkward.
MJG
We're locals and have had pizzas from Queen Margaret's countless times but have noticed the quality deteriorating. Think tonight was the last time we'll eat their pizzas.
Mon Coyle
Book and ask for gnocchi. Wow, what a meal. Pre-ordered off-menu gnocchi with lamb ragout, absolutely delicious, rich, complex, yet fresh flavours. Followed with two outstanding pizza; a mushroom to die for and margarita with pancella that was lovely. Very much recommended.
Kate
Loved It!. Decided at the last minute to go out for dinner on Saturday night and came across Queen Margaret. It was really busy but we were greeted immediately and got a table straight away (though it may have been the last one free). It's quite small in the front (didn’t see the back) and the tables are all close together so don't expect to be able to stretch out but this didn't bother us. The waitress was quick to take our order, starters and drinks arrived in good time, loved the aubergine bruschetta. Shortly after our starters the waitress told us there would be a delay on the pizza and gave us an extra starter on the house. We really didn’t mind and were quite happy to take our time. Pizza was tasty, just wish I’d had room left for a dessert as they looked really good! We’ll be back!
Heidis88
My new local. I live in the area and visited Queen Margaret on a whim. I had the calamari, prawn and meatball tapas and they were delicious. My partner had the number 17 pizza which was to die for. On our next visit we ordered the same and were not disappointed. This has become our new local and the place we take friends and family
Dr D
Worth the wait. We live very close by and have tried several times to just turn up and get a table here - without success. I suppose one should book, but what's the point of having something around the corner if you can't make a snap decision not to cook and just go out? Anyway, we finally got in. It was very good. Not sure the pizzas are the best even in the area (Woodstock in Nicholson is probably better), but they aren't overly expensive and the entrees - gruyere and potato croquettes and an excellent platter of salami, coppa, mortadella, prosciutto for $12 was good value. My pizza was fine, wine by the glass was good, my daughter's kid-sized pizza was OK (and reasonably priced), coffee was good, so all in all a very enjoyable and not overly-expensive spot. Service was fine - after a few minutes taken to figure out which table was free.
Gary Thomas
Delicious. The pizza is fantastic, with options to please everyone. Quite a generous size for the pricing too. The meatballs are also worth ordering, as is the agnolotti. Can't wait to work my way through the menu! Only downside is the back section can get a little noisy, and going on the wrong day might end up in a wait for a table.
Sugna19
Won't be disappointed!. The best pizza experience i've had so far!
Craig Leonardi
By far the best pizza around fantastic bellisimo
VLB
Fresh and Tasty. Great fresh gourmet pizzas. Only niggle was the base had a bit too much stone ground flour on the bottom which interferred with the taste of the toppings.
FoodJunkie
BEST PIZZA. Queen Margaret gets my top vote on many levels - amazing pizza with fresh ingredients, unique and interesting combinations that make your mouth water! Pizza base was delicious. Went with a few friends and tried 4 different pizzas (all with very creative and fun names) and each pizza rocked! Toppings were generous and the prawns SO fresh! Also had some tapas (croquets, calamari and olives were delicious)... Ice-cream for desert hit the spot.

Loads of great beers on offer as well, most of which I haven't ever tried, but can't wait to make my way through the whole list.

Must make mention of the warm and cosy interior, which felt really welcoming. Love the funky piping on the wall, dim lights and the bar area in the middle section.
Also, take a few extra minutes to go to the bathroom and read the story of Queen Margaret painted on the walls out the back...

Do yourself a favour and get to Queen Margaret for a great meal.... Thanks QM - just what Clifton Hill needed! Will be back again and again and again!
Kingfish
Cardboard!. I had dinner here on a busy friday night. I had the smoked salmon pizza and honestly it tasted like cardboard with tomato and smoked salmon on it! I don't like eating cardboard!
Missy
Food for Kings at Queen Margaret. Lovely service (once seated!... probably would have been best to book)

Pizzas were quite big and worth the price.

Entrees were amazing.

Staff were attentive and friendly.

Will be back!!!

Disappointed in Service. After hearing rave reviews from our friends we decided to forgo our Vietnamese ritual on a Sunday evening and venture to Queen Margaret for something different. We were seated outside at 6.15 and we ordered straight away. Our entrees arrived after 20 mins but unfortunately the wait for the pizzas was over an hour from the time we ordered. There were two tables beside us who arrived after us and had finished their pizzas/food before ours arrived so it was obviously the fault of the waiter who forgot to order the food. Very frustrating! It is a form of torture sitting in a restaurant with young children waiting on food !! The pizza was ok but our mood was so bad by then it was hard to enjoy anything. After expressing my extreme disappointment about the service and wait for food the manager removed the price of our entrees which made it marginally better but I will not be returning to the restaurant any time soon. Coming from a restaurant background I do appreciate the difficulties of staffing on a Sunday but this was just unacceptable. There are too many nice places to eat in Melbourne to bother with mediocrity.
Paul Jones
Pizza and beer, yuuuummmmm!. Very happy we now have a pizza place in Clifton Hill to take on the likes of Ladro and D.O.C. Right on the tram stop so I can explore their great beer menu without a worry in the world.
I Love Pizza
LOVED IT. Had dinner for the 3rd time at Queen Margaret last night and we LOVE it! Staff are friendly and attentive, Pizza is amazing and the ambience is brilliant. Our new Pizzeria - Hail the Queen.
Ann Smith
Queen Margaret. When we heard that Robert Coco was taking over the old Bella Napoli we thought YES its about time Clifton Hill got a decent pizza restaurant. To cut a long story short the moment we arrived I knew something was wrong. We had made a booking and one would expect to be greeted at least halfway through the restaurant, but no. three quarters through the restaurant not one person came near us, until we decided to take a seat ourselves. We sat at our table and as I said we chose it our selves, again not one person asked us if we would like a drink and when we did put our order in it took 20 minutes. by the time our friends came in again another 20 minutes before drinks came to the table. Anyway! I asked for some water and got the bottle but not the glasses. In the end the beer, wine, water bottles ended up on the floor because no body would stop to check our table and take the empties away. BUT! food was great could not fault it at all. Even went there the other night to give it a second chance just to find all the waitering staff had changed - but - still a couple of waitresses need to sorted out. BUT food was great.

Love dining at the Queen. What a wonderful experience, the greeting at the door is friendly and welcoming and there are a variety of seating options from intimate to family style. We The tables are brilliant with the menus providing loooooooooooooots of really great choices - especially like the tapas options, the gruyere croquettes and mushy pea bruschetta are to die for! The story on the back of the menu is very entertaining and the back of the restaurant features the same story.
There is a good variety of pizza options with excellent vegetarian choices, subtle flavours that are French-style in complexity and very different to the fare available at other Italian restaurants. These are complimented with an excellent selection of boutique beers and red wines (we don't drink white).
Finally the service is the same as you would receive at any of the top restaurants in Melbourne, and for less than half the price. The Queen Margaret is now a regular monthly feature on our dining out agenda.

Nice one centurian. After recently dining at QM I am looking forward to going back soon. We arrived without a booking and after ordering a drink at the bar, were promptly shown to our table by one of the friendly staff.

Dining with my partner and a friend we all went separate directions. My girlfriend ordered the agnolotti, our friend the rockpool pizza and I went for 2 of the small dishes - an eggplant lasagne and seared prawns with chorizo. We ordered a QM salad to share. We tasted each others dishes and all were delicious with servings that we considered reasonably generous.. The QM salad with walnuts was exceptional.

The attentive, good natured wait staff complimented the great food and pleasant company.
Melissa
My new local. I travel all over Melbourne for Pizza and I am so glad I live in North Fitzroy as Queen Margaret is now my new local. Our waitress recommended we start with some crushed fava bean and pea bruschetta which were amazing. One of our party ordered the gruyere croquettes and pork and veal meatballs as he doesn't eat pizza and we all devoured his meal so had to order another helping.

By the time our pizza arrived, our bellies were almost full but the pizzas looked delicious - just the right chewy thin base with the right amount of crust. I ordered the 'Kind of Scotland" with smoked salmon and mascarpone. The mascarpone was hiding under the salad and I had to spread it over the smoked salmon myself. The flavours were perfectly married and I had to swat away hands as members of my party tried to steal a piece. One of my friends ordered the San Daniele pizza with thinly sliced pieces of San Daniele prosciutto put on once the pizza came out of the oven - it was excellent.

Our waitress was attentive and sweet if not a little hesitant and could have known the menu a little better but she was humble and told us the restaurant had only been open for 3 weeks and this was her 2nd night. We all loved her wine recommendation - the rioja from Spain. We really liked it and looked forward to making this a weekly occurrence.

Off With Her Head. What a disappointment my first visit to this restaurant turned out to be. Being a local in the area for almost 30 years, and of recent years a regular visitor to Cavallini's in Clifton, I was looking forward to visiting Clifton Hill's newest cafe / restaurant, Queen Margaret - which by coincidence is the new business venture set up by the owners of Cavallini's located next door. Upon arrival, the restaurant was busy but certainly not full. I was directed to take a seat at the bar whilst a table was being set for my partner and I . We were both taken by surprise as the table pointed out to us looked ready to go, as did several other tables in the restaurant, and not a reserved sign in sight. Following a rather lengthy wait at the bar, I chased the waiter staff up and they drifted off to investigate the progress of setting the allocated table, not to return. Again, another follow up and no further response. Unfortunately, as a result we left without being seated at a table, let alone have the opportunity to sample pizzas on offer . I was of the impression the tactic to seat us at the bar was to generate some additional revenue, as a wine list was produced without fail and our wait was very lengthy. As inviting as the restaurant looked on a gloomy wet Melbourne night, the staff were less than warm or welcoming and the entire experience was unfortunately far from satisfactory. I hope to have the opportunity to re visit Queen Margaret again in the future, and have a better experience, let alone have the chance to sample the pizzas.

We had a nice meal here. It's a great compliment to some of the other good pizza places around, different style - not really better or worse. The service was good and prompt. The families in the back half of the restaurant looked well looked after too. The food was great quality and the wine was nice.

Smells delicious, tastes delicious! Very nice and inviting pizzeria. Gluten fre bases not my favourite in Melbourne, but still very good. Nutella and pear crumble calzone is delicious!

As for the bases, they had the bubbly misshapen texture that I like and a base that held the fresh ingredients without turning into a soggy mess. However, if I’m nit-picking the base was a little too bready – I prefer a bit more chew to my dough (my pizza gold standard is still Ladro and Supermaxi). Having a glance around at other diners it seemed that most people had also left the puffy crusts on their plate.
