I usually pop in for an essential end-of-the-week-cocktail and always stay for a second. The Susan Sarandon is my go to and is possibly the best cocktail in Melbourne.

This place oozes cool. Being hidden away in plain sight, people walking by of an evening won't know it's open when the venetians are only just cracked open. The menu was tiny, but the tapas style dishes were just delicious. I didn't try the cocktails but I will definitely check them out when I next stop in. Three of us took a booth and it was perfect. There are no airs and graces here - it's just honest and I really really like that. It's not a 'happening' place. Come here for a quiet drink with a friend.
Cool is not a word I use often, in fact I am probably way past being of an age where I can, but I have to say longplay simply is gorgeously cool. I have been coming here for donkies and don't really know why it's taken me so long to comment on this little gem (perhaps I don't want others to find it) what the guys manage to do in one of the smallest kitchens in the business is miraculous and the drinks list and bar knowledge impeccable. I do miss that the owners aren't behind the bar as often these days and I probably visit a little less as a result but it's still on top of the list. Looking forward to trying the new venture in Fitzroy soonest
Daily changing menu, never trivial and perfect atmosphere for romantic dinner!! At the back, small cinema or gig venue. If you are lucky, try the oven gnocchi, unbelievable!
Have been for cocktails before but last night was the first time we've eaten there. Food was sublime - limited menu but everything was spot on. The ragu was quite heavy but nice- the gnocchi in porcini cream and crispy leeks was the standout of the night along with the broccoli and sweet potato sides. Cocktails as always were fantastic. Place got a bit busier at end of the night and wait service declined - would recommend going earlier on weekend nights or else go mid week. Try the gnocchi!
Great bar that plays records and makes a decent Campari soda. There's a limited food menu that I've yet to sample (because my favourite Malaysian restaurant is next door and Supermaxi is up the road). Booths to snuggle up in makes it perfect for mid-week, rainy day hangs.
What a gem. Great atmosphere, impressive wine lists, excellent selection of beers; lovely staff, and the food is sublime each and every time.
...my favourite neighbourhood haunt has got to be Long Play. Seriously, this place is too good to be true. It's like an Enid Blyton book that never ends. Cocktails are all the classics plus the obligatory espresso martini and priced at $16 they are gentle on ye ol' credit card debt. My favourite is the manhattan, the drink that puts the hairs on my chest and my woes to rest.
Came here for the first time last night as we are new to the area. This will now be our go-to dinner spot. Cozy and inviting atmosphere, great wait staff. Food was flavoursome and tasty. Only slight drawback was the portions were on the small side, left you wanting more because it was so good! Can't wait to go back.
This venue is lovely and understated with a warm and animated atmosphere inside. The beverages are reasonable and the food is great but I think the thing that always tops it off for me is how lovely the staff are, it sets the tone for the night.
So very enjoyable. Had such a great experience at Long Play last night, the food was excellent (probably the best meal i've had out this year), their drinks options are super extensive and all delicious, staff are helpful and friendly. Would recommend A+++++ yes very good

Should I tell?. This is a brilliant bar - the best I know in a city overrun by bars. The greeting is friendly, the food delicious and the drinks perfect. Unlike some other well known bars the pour is generous as is the hospitality. Singles, couples and groups are all welcomed. I just hope I can still get a table...
I'm am so happy that long play is the closest bar to my house, I live it so much! The service is always super friendly and onto it, I got there quite a bit and they treat me like a VIP which I don't expect but is so kind. I love there food, the gnocchi and kangaroo a true highlight. I also love the main piece of art in the dinning room stunning!
Been coming to LongPlay for a couple of years now and am so impressed with this place every time. Food fantastic and just ask the owner what he recommends to drink with your meal and you can't go wrong.
We went to LongPlay purely by accident as Malaymas (another great place next door) was closed, and were delighted with our find. Great wine and cocktail list, wonderful kangaroo, risotto and potato gratin dishes, and friendly efficient service. It ticks all the boxes and we will definitely be back!
Longplay is as good as a bar gets in this town. Loved by locals, but also frequented by punters from all over Melbourne. The food is quality but relaxed and unpretentious. The staff are as nice as you can get, and the interior is perfect - Venetian blinds, wooden booths, and interesting vinyl records spinning all the time. We go here for any occasion, even to watch a film in the cinema room out back! This place is genuine and real, and really stands out in a city thats full of bars fighting to be the coolest.

This is the ideal place to have around the corner from home... great wine list of excellent favourites and a few adventures... menu of predictably tasty, quality plates... lively, buzzing yet easy to have a relaxed time and good conversation... attentive service... beautiful looking place - check out how glorious the bar looks with the afternoon sun streaming in... only praise for this place. I hope LongPlay has a long, long run.

Fantastic cocktails, great service and good food. We had a great evening here and found the bar staff super friendly. Very reasonably priced cocktails. Good food but I thinks it's a drink destination rather than a food one. Great little place.
New favourite. Longplay is my new favourite bar. A cosy setting with a great cocktail and wine list- the espresso martini is delicious. Friendly well educated bar staff and chef who does wonders in the tidy kitchen space. Very impressive.
The cocktails at this place are amazing. I just moved back from 3 years in New York and the cocktails at Longplay are better than anything I had in the Big Apple. The food is great too. And the waiting staff are professional and friendly. Big thumbs up!!
Up There. Everything about this place is great. The food is great value and well prepared, the drinks are quality and the vibe in the room is fantastic. Amongst the best bars in Melbourne.
Magnifique! The food here is prepared with passion and it shows. My favourite (so far) is the Trevally Ceviche - so delicious. Cocktails are great too - try the Jalapeño infused Margarita - heaven!
Best local I've ever had. This place is so good. I'm in two minds about writing a review because I don't want too many people to discover it. They make a manhattan to die for, the cocktail list is great and everything is affordable ! Food is simple bistro fare and the service is great. Never been so satisfied with a local bar until I moved near Long Play !
Great bar and food. The staff are friendly and helpful who provide great service. The food is really tasting but the portions are small. A good selection of wines and beers.

Just experienced my first ever margarita made with jalapeño-infused tequilla. Or two of them to be precise. Good place, great service, fantastic drinks.
A new favourite. Cold and rainy evening, sitting at the bar, drinking delicious wine, eating some olives and soaking up the atmosphere, heaven! Staff were really friendly, and will definitely be back for the lamb cutlets with preserved lemon, mint and sumac. Try this before it gets too busy!
Great little bar. This is a great little place to go for a few drinks and some tasty well executed tapas style food. Maybe a little expensive on the food side given the portions, however i will be returning to eat more in the future. Cocktail Lamb cutlets with chickpea salad were really tasty. The food is put together with love and attention to detail. Unfortunately i ate before i went, so didn't try much, that will change when i return with an empty stomach. Nice wine list with specials and a relaxed atmosphere. Turntable behind the bar and a display of vinyl is great.

The legend that served us was so great. Really knew how to host. The menu was simple & and not over expansive. We ordered pisco sours and another sour and both were crisp & yum.
Will definitely be back here again.
The staff were amazing. However, the acoustics of the room in which we had our event was terrible. It was like having a group of 20 crammed into a turkish bath room. No one could hear others or speak to the person standing next to them. I couldn't stand it more than an hour and left the birthday event way before the cake being served to save my ear drums.

the venue is super cute and laid back, lighting is perfect, so cosy. great music- they were playing kelela when we arrived, love.
drinks and food were bang on for a date night too, oysters and cocktails are a match made in heaven. i think the angels behind the bar might’ve forgotten we ordered lol but they gave us complimentary olives to make up for it.
