Review Phoenix Chinese Restaurant - North Haven

Jason Hywood
Have been to this resturant multiple times and used their takeaway option and every time the food has been fresh and very tasty. The service is always friendly and efficient. It has a great location overlooking the North Haven marina so be sure to book a window table, or try out on the terrace in nice weather. Will definitely be back, be sure to pay them a visit if your after great Chinese food.

We have had some wonderful meals at this restaurant, but not tonight. Obviously not enough staff on. We waited over 1 hour for our entrees. The first entree was still frozen inside. The second one delivered to our table wasn’t ours. The third one was 20 minutes after the first one and got spilled on the table so couldn’t be eaten. Service was rude and non existent. At this point we left, paying for our drinks and the prawn chips, which had been nice.

We came in a large group on a Saturday night. Other than us, there was only one other couple there in a large venue that should have had more custom. I think some of my review may go to explain why so few were there. The restaurant is on the first floor, access is only by concrete stairs. Those with mobility issues may like to take that into account. Other reviewers have said that the decor is dated, and I will agree with that. It's from the 90s but I grew up in the 90s, so for me it reminds me of good times. Having said that, the restaurant has cleanliness issues. Don't go in your best shoes as the carpet literally squelches underfoot. I'm surprised that it isn't a health and safety issue, or fire hazard. Somehow it isn't. The lazy susans on the larger tables were sticky. There is a basin in the ladies toilet that has been out of order for what seems like years. When orders were taken, I was missed. They did not take enough care to ensure all orders were taken. Eventually I realised I had been missed and went up to give my order. My food arrived after everyone else had finished and then only some of what I ordered arrived. This is second time I have tried to order the Chinese Vegetables unsuccessfully at this location. I suspect that the menu no longer accurately reflects the available choices to diners. The food that arrived is classic Australian suburban Chinese. Nothing really stood out, well other than the absence of the ordered vegetables. I think that the Phoenix would probably benefit to move to what is known as a dark kitchen and do delivery only. I think they are paying rent on space not filled with customers, who are probably not there due to a range of reasons including cleanliness (sticky carpet, lazy susans), mobility (I suspect that the average age of the area tends towards being older), taking of orders, pandemic time, etc.

Well what can I say. Food looked great and on first few mouthfuls tasted great. After first course the main course arrived without any pates or cutlery to eat it with. We asked staff for plates for which there was no apology but only two young girls behind bar area casually wiping a plate looking our table and laughing. I raised the issue with the manager to point out the girls attitude who to his fairness apologised (like he should have to) and he did question them. I then witnessed them questioning him on why he was speaking to them still glaring at our table. At this point I chose to leave this establishment without eating. Have been here and had take out from here many times and cant question the food but the service or more to the point attitude of the younger members of staff is, on this occasion, appalling. Wont be back.

There were 12 of us and we had the best time with ample hot fresh food. Its not Kowloon street market fare but good Aussie style Chinese food with cold beer and house wine. There is a view to die for and the manager even adjusted the outside umbrellas when the sun shone in one of our parties eyes. The young girl waiting was attentive and delightful and the manager could not have been more obliging. If I want fancy I will spend three times as much on less food in the city. If I want honest food and service and a good time with friends I will go local, to the Phoenix. My only criticism was the dark steep staircase. It needs more lighting for customers leaving in the dark, especially older ones.

This was ABSOLUTELY the worst dinner I have ever had they were going 2 make it better and deliver right meal still waiting 22 dollars for 1 meal and not even right. Waste of 62 dollars not happy.

The food is to die for great service can note fault friendly good price well worth the money came to the place by accident I reside in the country and in Adelaide this would be the best compared to THe Golden harvest which I use to frequent once a week before it closed. Now I must say this will be the Best restaurant for me

Best chinese restauraunt i have been to. Been enjoying dinner at this restaurant for more than ten years now. The only thing is they are not open fir lunch. They gave great Asian cuisines at affordable prices and great customer service. I sometimes order take away and spend over $70 , I always get a free bag if prawn chips. The kids love it. They also have great scenery, my family always sit by the window dye to the beautiful scenery. Sometimes we even see dolphins swimming by. Great place. Love it. Highly reccomend

Excellent service. I went to this place yesterday and it was really good. I usually do not go to Asian restaurants as i dont have good impressions about them but it was reccommended by my friend. Service was excellent 10/10, food was also excellent 10/10 , place was nice as well. The staff were really friendly as they asked if we enjoyed our meals and also thanked us fir dining in. Definitely returning

Rude employees. I have never had such bad service before. I have been going to this restaurant for over 10 years. Waited 15 minutes before getting asked if we wanted a drink. Another 15 minutes later my partners drink arrives but not mine. Another 15 minutes later I decide to go ask where my drink was, her reply was "dont have that bottle what else do you want?". I pick my wine and receive in 10 minutes later, meanwhile our meals were already on the table. Half way through our meal the girl asked what sauce we wanted on our sundaes as she wanted to make them then. I said we were still eating our meal. When it was turn to order our sundaes, they sat on the bar for 10 minutes melting while she was busy on the phone. We asked for fried icecream, but they didnt have that either. I asked if we could take it home as we had to leave and pick son up from football, she then started peaking her language (which is very rude). There was no thankyou after I paid the bill. We were the only customers in the whole restaurant and all they were interested in was taking phone calls for take away food. The place was filthy, especially the toilets. We sat there in darkness, no music. They did put the tv on though. What restaurants have tvs? This place needs the healthys going through it. Such a shame as it was a really nice place to go, never again will I be spending my money at this place.

BAD experience. This restaurant used to be THE place to go in North Haven for Asian cuisine. No longer.

The food is very average and the service deplorable. I can only presume there are now new owners.

After devouring entree as part of a two person banquet, mains were served ALL AT ONCE and we were informed eating plates etc. would be forthcoming. We had to rearrange the table to try and fit it all. We waited for the plates...and we waited. I ended up going over to the chef and asking for 2 plates. He seemed puzzled but gave them to me anyway.

We managed to fit them in front of us and proceeded to devour the very ordinary main courses, most of which was covered in greasy batter like you used to commonly see in early startup Chinese restaurants in the 80's.

Our plates piled up but no one arrived to whisk them away. (There was a total of 14 customers that night too.)
When we had finished main course, the waitress came to take our tea and dessert orders then walked away leaving the plates. We added to the pile with our dessert plates then went to the counter to pay.
We waited...and we waited. Eventually the waitress popped past and said "Hello" as if we'd just walked in. After a while she realised we were there to pay and she returned to take our money. No smiles or "How were your meals" or anything.

Really, we should've just walked out when we had the chance.
