Review Treehouse Hotel - North Sydney

Derek Renouf
We've been visiting Tree House for many years now. The food is good and it has a great atmosphere. It's great for team lunches.

Nestled above pacific highway, Treehouse is always busy with business folk eating, drinking and meeting. Sit anywhere, on a table, on the higher tables with a view of the street or snuggled in a couch or booth inside. Staff are attentive, even always being busy. Food is great, always a great brekkie to start the day. Friday night drinks is always pumping here too.

Great place to have a few drinks and dinner. Menu is not huge but food is really good and well prepared.

Walking distance to the office and we had our colleague’s farewell lunch here yesterday. Ambiance is nice, very cozy. And the food was really good as well! Service was superb and the server was very accommodating. I ordered the market fish of the day, which was really yummy btw. And non-alco beer which I found really nice and close to the actual taste of pale ale (minus the buzz boo). So for my second round, server brought the can as well so I can take a photo for reference 😂

A pub that pours wine into a measuring goblet and then pours it into the glass, and spills, why? Senseless meanness. Just pour the wine directly into the glass. A very after work pub, with good choice of beers and wines. Ceviche exceptional. Good wine list, not great choice of beers

3.5/5 - Came here for breakfast with a big group and the food came relatively quickly. The staff were super friendly and attentive. Coffee was decent, but the fresh juice was better. The breakfast menu was somewhat limited, only about 5 or so items to choose from what I remember. But would come back for a quick lunch or coffee.

Real nice venue, lovely setting with indoor and outdoor dining, very friendly staff and great food

Vegan bowl was delicious, took a while to get to our table, so lower rating on this one. Room for improvement. Will still return.

Was over charged and no receipt given. Can be really crowded and noisy at times. Food tastes average. Some servers are friendly, some aren't. Would rather choose other place.

This place is very insensitive to north Sydney residents privacy. Playing music at such late night 11pm during a week night is not ideal. Despite complaints about the noise pollution produced by their music, they claim they can play music until 12am without considering the residents living around the area when they have to sleep early and go to work the early next day! The inconsiderate attitude and unprofessionalism of the manager of this place ignoring the needs of surrounding residents disgust me and does not entice me to go try their food.

Sneaky service surcharge! $4.66 for a small coffee. The on duty manager agreed its excessive yet didn’t offer to do anything about it other than passing the feedback on to the “higher management”.

The place is vegetarian friendly, will give you a nice bush style feeling in the heart of north sydney. Food is very tasty. Friendly staffs.

Hawaiian poke bowl. That’s what I go there for.
The restaurant has great seating. I love eating on the balcony when it’s a sunny day! Would recommend booking as it gets really busy during lunch.

Warm and cosy restaurant in the heart of north Sydney with friendly and helpful staff and an extensive wine list. Tried the twice cooked pork belly because I can never pass up pork belly when it’s on the menu and the pork was so delicious and tender it was a delight to eat. Crackling was on point and paired so nicely with the radicchio and pomegranate salad. Perfect location for casual catch up, work lunches and large groups.

So if you are brown, the bartender won't serve you till you say please. This is a white supremist place where they don't entertain people of diverse culture.

Really enjoyed our meal. Food was a bit slow to come out but great duck confit and pork cutlet more than made up for it. Lovely side of roast pumpkin salad as well. Service was okay too.
The Engineer Eats
Great place for functions or work dinners, we had our workplace dinner here and loved it! I liked my confit duck leg with braised leek, sautéed purple kale, crispy pancetta and thyme. It was so tasty! The night ended with a frozen tiramisu vacherin, another popular item on the menu as 2/3 of the table ordered it! Will be back!

Trendy venue for after work drinks. The space is nice & relax with a touch of class. The cocktails were a bit pricy, tasted ok. We ordered some chips to go with the drinks. They were crunchy and very moorish. The only dent of the night was a particularly snooty teenage looking hipster bartender who was giving me some attitude when I was ordering at the bar, he looked like he didn't want to be there, and treated me like I was causing him hassles.

I know I’ve mentioned the Tree House before, but it truly is a great ‘go to’ spot if you need a place for coffee, brunch or lunch or just somewhere to camp and do some work before a meeting. There’s plenty of cozy, quiet nooks…. ….great coffee…. ….chai….

DO NOT GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD TO THE TREEHOUSE - I was told that they only require it to hold the table and after a waitress dropped a tray of drinks down my back and pants they offered to pay for one round of drinks and dinner. I let them know that I can not sit through a dinner in wet pants. I refused to pay for the outstanding bill of $61 and they called the police. I spoke with the manager after she spoke with the police and she said that it had all been sorted out. I left only to see that they just took money straight out of my account. This company has no idea how to please the customer.

End up going here at least once a month because my office is in North Sydney and very few good restaurants here for a big team. I cant say I get disappointed every time. Because I do love the food but the problem is it is the same menu every time I go. Now I have tried all their dishes once so I have started all over again. when to comes food itself, Poached chicken salad is great with crunch, fresh veggies and welllll cooked chicken. Their salmon dish and its sauce is perfect. Gnocchi is not up to the mark but alright (only veg dish on the menu so not many options for vegans). Steak is not mouth watering but not a bad one. Absolutely love their chips. Perfectly cooked with correct crispness, tenderness and good seasoning. So if this is place is an option in your selection then you can go for it once or twice. Again and again for chips :)

Don't come here in groups if at all.

During my first visit, they brought out everyone's food except mine. After waiting an additional 15-20 and the staff clarifying my order multiple times, my food arrived after my team had all finished.

My second visit was even worse. Waited 40+ mins for our food and received no communication as to why our meals were taking so long. The 10% service charge (which they took off our bill due to lack of service) is basically an additional cost for your food to take longer.

Expensive and pretentious are two words that comes to mind after my experience here. Quite a shame really, given its location and lack of decent bars in North Sydney.

With a glass of red wine (Teusner GSM) ordered, I was treated to the bar staff pouring the wine from the bottle into a measuring cup! She measured it to the last drop to the line, before pouring the measuring cup into a wine glass!

This was a world first for me. Forget about experiencing such a stingy show in Sydney; I have never seen this happen anywhere else in the world! Needless to say, this was my last trip to this place...

Seems to be a good spot for work drinks, with the majority of the crowd being 30+ yo office workers who probably come by to relax after work. Vibe was pretty chilled and enjoyable with a variety of food options available.

The mini wagyu beef burger was nice, possibly had shallots in the patty? A little sweet and tasted Asian influenced. The arancini balls were nice and crispy and warm when you bite into them, but also a little salty. Unfortunately the vegetarian rice paper rolls weren’t very good. Tasted like paper, dry and everything was falling out as it wasn’t fully enclosed.

We accidentally found the Treehouse Hotel when visiting the post office one day in North Sydney. We came back for a Sunday breakfast and it was terrific! We dined inside as it was a rainy day but it made it even more atmospheric and moody. Our breakfast escape was made even more enjoyable with the good coffee and really good menu. We could have stayed for the rest of the day but alas we had to move on. Going back again soon!

Love this place for lunch on a weekday, a cheeky after work drink & they do a pretty mean breakfast too. Service is a bit slow in the morning despite not being as busy as lunch or dinner but food is good as is the coffee which is Allpress. The baked eggs are substantial, healthy & delicious, great protein & source of energy & sets you up for the day.

One of the best cafes in Norh Sydney. A really relaxed vibe while still being great for business meetings. It's very spacious so can accomodate large groups comfortably.

I tend to go there for work brekkie meetings and a must-try is the Tuscan Baked Eggs but they also do a great scrambled eggs which can be modified with heaps of sides 👍

We booked a table for 8pm on a friday, and at first the service was nice, they were able to accommodate us needing a few more places at the table. After that the service was very rude. We were enjoying ourselves with some drinks waiting for a few more members of our party to arrive before we ordered food but we were told that if we did not order in the next 15 minutes we would lose our table. This was especially bizarre because there weren't any other people waiting for a table, and the restaurant was almost completely empty - yet for some reason they would be happy to kick us out. When we did order, due to the extremely limited menu which does not cater for any dietary needs and only includes one dairy heavy vegetarian option, we ordered mostly share plates and starters with one or two mains. We were told, almost reprimanded that they usually only reserve these tables for people who order main dishes not starters. Again, this is an almost empty restaurant. After we were judged for not dropping enough cash, we were treated rudely for the rest of the evening and opted to head somewhere else for drinks afterwards. I can understand why the restaurant was empty, I don't see myself going back after the way we were treated. The service was stuck up, didn't prioritise good service over their 'policies' and made us feel like we weren't allowed to be there unless we spent over a certain amount of money.

Food was ok, average. Not vegetarian friendly, not vegan friendly. I don't understand why you would only have one vegetarian meal on your entire menu. Drinks were standard, we were also told that they do not split bills, and also that we weren't allowed to go to the bar to order drinks, that we had to put them on the bill for our table. I honestly don't know how they expect groups to divide payment for all their drinks and food, nor do I see why we were treated like naughty children breaking rules rather than paying customers.

I don’t mind the forest like décor especially the glass house where lounges and cushions are randomly arranged. It is a good place to chilli and have a cocktail or a glass of wine. The food is actually quite expansive considering the menu is pretty standard. Luckily it was team outing and I didn’t have to pay.

Great place for a casual long lunch and business meetings. I really enjoy the relaxed vibes nestled in the venue, away from the busy Walker st. Food is pretty good and not overly expensive either.
Nourishment Bowl
Came here for a date and the ambiance was lovely. Dim lights and gorgeous interiors. He ordered the steak and I ordered the fish. The waitress was lovely! Will be heading back here soon.

Organised work drinks for my company with 30+ attendance - food, cocktails, huge amount of money dropped on this place. Though, they have a strange policy where they charge you $5pp that doesn't show up on your RSVP booking, in addition they will happily pass on your booking if you don't reach the table within 15 mins of your booking. The hostess who attended to us was rude and disrespectful, and really blinded by the weight of their "policy" over hospitality... Food is small and overpriced. Not high on our return-to list, sozzie

T H E ☆ T R E E H O U S E
This is a great place for work lunches or to chill on a summers day. The ambiance is like you have escaped the city and into a garden paradise. Great indoor and outdoor areas. I would recommend the ploughmans lunch where you can taste a bit of everything. ✌ @foodiesguidetosydney

I went there for lunch with some guys from work. It was very busy which was a good sign. But the menu was very limited and it took us over an hour to get our food. This was the only disappointment.

Nice atmosphere inside. Just had a tea and the sour dough toast and that was nice. Pretty easy meal so not much to review other than atmosphere

This place gets by purely because of the location. The food is average and overpriced, and it appears that the baristas don't actually listen to what you say.

I ordered a coffee earlier and the guy I was ordering from appeared not to be listening. I though to myself 'He must be SUCH a good barista, that he can have two conversations at once and still get things right". But unfortunately, it turns out that he wasn't actually listening to me.

The staff think they are too cool for school, but someone needs to teach them that being young and hip gets you nowhere.

A great convenient location for after work drinks in North Sydney, I worked right opposite and it was a local spot for a drink every few weeks. The venue itself is quite nice and they have a great choice of drinks however the food could do with some work as most of it's mediocre at best.
Christ
We've been here a few times because it's in a convenient location. The staff have managed to be rude in some way every time - including forgetting orders, pushing to make space and move to the outside area for the next guests while still enjoying drinks in the dining area. Considering that plus the price bs quality of food and drinks, it's not good value and not an enjoyable experience.

Really delicious food and warm friendly trendy atmosphere. Like it a lot. Great spot. Definitely must go

Had a lovely dining experience at The Treehouse

this evening. Lovely, interesting decor with a central fireplace and chic booths. A lot of restaurants push tables too close together to try and squeeze as many people in as possible- making them loud/noisey and not being able to converse without yelling. I'm happy to report that this is not one of those restaurants! Tables were well spaced around the central fireplace creating a warm/comforting/cosy ambience.
Service was exceptional. Our waitress was fantastic and we even commented on how good she was at her job.
The food was good overall. Starter of toasted Turkish bread was overpriced for what it was. The pork belly main was perfect and desert was good but could have been better. The mashmellow blueberry cocktail was ok but a bit sour for my liking.
Overall the service, ambience and quality of the main coarse made up for the average starter and desert. Would defiantly return.

Popular local haunt with the office crowd. The heart of the North Sydney CBD is an interesting place in terms of food venues that are not just for the lunches of office workers so the Treehouse plays a good all round role here. Have eaten here various times over the years, generally work related lunches. Came here with the team to spend the rest of our entertainment budget for the year. I have always liked the chips they serve up here. All the men had the eye fillet and no grumbles all round. The salads were pretty good and the rhubarb brulee was OK, was scared it would be too rhubarby. At other times, their steak sandwich is their mainstay - had it again recently and the aioli works well with the steak. A popular place in an area that can be low on certain types of venues. Can be a great place to take someone for a quick drink if the weather is fine.
Life Of A Travel Czar
The parfait is perfect. It captures everything you love about life. It’s silky, it’s velvety, it has that exotic “I am in the middle of Paris” feel, it creates a tingly feeling all over, it’s the best.

It's a Saturday night and you're looking for a quiet drink. Come into Treehouse for a bar snack and a cocktail. Their fries are legendary at $9. You know, cripsy, crunchy (probably cooked a few times over) with fluffy potato stuffing inside. They were very easy to eat.

I also had the classic cosmo at $18 with burnt orange flavours. Beautiful and at the standards you would expect @ the Tree House.

I also shared the meatballs at $19 which were incredibly spicy. They were hard to enjoy as my tastebuds were burnt off my tongue. It was cheesy and spicy - too spicy. So if you can handle your spice then try the bar food - try the meat balls.
Weekendfoodescapes
The signature dish is definitely the steak sandwich. It's beautifully put together and just falls into place - the bread, the steak, trimmings and did I mention the salty, crispy chips (absolutely to die for). I always struggle to finish the steak sandwich so I didn't opt for the delicious signature dish on this occasion. The salmon was delicious and the other components had a variety of different textures and tastes that fell together quite well. A bit of a fancy lunch for a dear work colleague who was departing last Friday. She will be sorely missed! My other work colleague didn't rate the beef salad as it wasn't rare. Stick to the steak sandwich for a reliable tasty lunch. If you have time up your sleeve then i'd recommend lunch at the tree house. You need a good hour and a half.

I had the gnocchi for my main. These starchy potato pillows were lightly pan-fried and served with large prawns, peas, leek and sage brown butter for moisture. This could have become too oily, but they got the balance just right. Thankfully, the portions were sizable and they weren't stingy on the prawns :)
All You Do Is Eat
Treehouse has gone all out when it comes to decorating. We’re talking astroturf, bright coloured cushions and umbrellas, birdcages, wicker chairs, plants – the whole works. This makes for a great place to catch up with friends over a few jugs of cocktails or to sit in the sunshine and enjoy breakfast on a Saturday morning.
Walking inside the Treehouse Hotel in North Sydney is like wandering into a confused dream. Che Guevara nudges Marlon Brando and Audrey Hepburn. There is a gargoyle, a piano, a wrought-iron gate, a popcorn vending machine, an empty birdcage and a garden gnome. Postmodern meets baroque meets art deco meets retro meets kitsch meets vintage, and they all go around the mulberry bush (and come falling down). “We are like the secret garden in the heart of North Sydney’s corporate jungle,” says the hotel manager. “When we were setting the place up, each staff member was sent out to bring in a piece of decoration or furniture that they fancied from auctions all over.” That explains the whimsical nature of the décor, which almost serves as a microcosm for our mass media saturated times. Outside, the patio is awash with primary colours – striped deck cushions and vibrant umbrellas – a drastic departure from the chesterfield sofas and velour drapes inside. But despite the inconsistency of aesth
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Their Alice in Wonderland-themed first birthday made dining here especially playful - though I suspect it's like that all of the time. The waiters are convivial, and the décor is vintage, colourful and slightly off-kilter. Similarly, food is classic but presented in a pretty, tea party like manner. The D

Good fast freindly service. .... Good fast freindly service.
Fish of the day was cooked perfectly. Nice decore and lively atmosphere.

Best salt & pepper calamari i've ever had and really nice, well/salted chips

Quality service + quality food = repeat customer. I religiously go to The Treehouse everyday for tea, not for any other reason but for the service I receive from the staff. Combined with the friendly greetings I get, the level of service is superior to most at peak hour coffee periods. I highly recommend The Treehouse for breakfast, lunch & any events in the evening as it has a great vibe and great food.

We got in early and had cocktails, the cocktails were great but it was downhill from there.

We went to our table, the staff were all miserable, in the whole time we were there we did not see a single staff member smile, not one. The staff were also slow and frequently failed to fulfil requests, like 'can we have the bill'.

The food was subpar. It's not hard to get bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar wrong, but somehow the bread was left soaked in oil with a teeny grazing of balsamic..

The gnocchi was awful. It was soggy and oily from being fried, and yet was terribly dry in taste. There were about two cherry tomatoes in the mix, which was the only real flavour or moisture in the dish. It's also served with prawns which where stunningly over cooked. I haven't been to a restaurant in so long which has massacred something as simple as a prawn.

The Ravioli was okay.

A very disappointing evening. On Saturday night we had a very unpleasant experience at The Treehouse. We attended the venue after a lunchtime wedding where the groom put at least $500 over the bar for food alone. A number of guests were refused service of alcohol at about 7pm and they were not showing the obvious signs of intoxication. The whole group ending up leaving which was a very disappointing end to a lovely day. I would not recommend this venue for any future function and have certainly retold our story to many people. I hope he manager enjoyed his early night as he seemed intent on emptying the bar before 8pm. On the upside a venue nearby was more than happy to accommodate us and let us spend our money with them!!!

Consistently very good for weekday lunches, I'm pleased to report that dinner is of the same high standard even on a Saturday.

I couldn't fault the eye fillet or the pannacotta that I had tonight. The steak was perfectly medium rare and tasty, and the pannacotta was fantastic with fresh passion fruit and just the right amount of creaminess and wobble.
Michael
I've been going to the treehouse for years now. The coffee is always perfect, the food is increasable, the service is always very professional. Daniel the restaurant manager always has a smile on face and takes great care of all his regulars. It's always nice to be greeted by him.
If you need a place for a after work drink it's perfect too. The bar/outdoor area is beautiful. It's got a real warm feel to the place when you walk through the door! Highly recommend it!

Sadly disappointing. I have no idea why this is labelled as 'Vegan Friendly' as the staff clearly had no idea what Veganism involves. The menu was so limited anyway, and had no clear vegan meal - staff made it clear they would no go to any effort to accommodate one.
The only positive was the atmosphere - original and quirky decor. Unfortunately this was not enough to counteract the terrible service and attitude from staff, severely undercooked steak and sky high prices.
Natalie Morgan
Not vegan friendly, not friendly.. Asked for a vegan dish on booking none provided. There was no way they were going to try to make something either. Not sure why this restaurant is labeled vegan friendly, it is not.

Waited ages for everything - To be seated, drinks, meal orders, bill. Had to ask for everything because nobody would attend to us. Wait staff purposely did not make eye contact.

All previous negative reviews appear to be true sadly.

There was no one person looking after any area which created disharmony.

Starter came with mains and food was ordinary. It makes me sad because the decor is great and the cocktails are fun. Maybe best to stick to drinks only at the bar?

It is annoying because I don't think they care to improve because they are busy and get the business anyway which is sad. I hope they take people's opinions on board.

Service needs a service. Whilst the food was good the service was poor and the staff where rude

Great food and drink but service is useless, waited 20 minutes to get served....
J Brankin
Hands down the WORST service. We had a late lunch so the place wasn't that busy.
We ordered drinks, 20 min goes by and still no drinks at our table. 10 min later they come by with our drinks.
They screw up taking our oder and come back and say "who hasn't ordered we have 10 meals and there are 11 of you. As if it was our fault? Ummmm YOu didn't take down the orders correctly.
Then our boss is the one who's meal is missing. They serve everyone else and the boss is left sitting there watching the rest of the table eat. (This is a personal pet peeve of mine)
No meals were comped, no heartfelt apologies by management.
David Martenson
Great food! Bad service.

Took 20 minutes to catch someone's eye to order food. Didn't feel like there was anyone in particular looking after us. Forgot part of our order. Had to flag someone down at every stage of the way (water, wine, bread, coffee, bill...)
Pete Smythe
Great coffee if you want to wait 30 mins for it. Place has a really cool vibe, staff friendly in the morning, bit stuck up in the evenings.
Great coffee, but DONT head there if you're in a rush for take away coffee or food!! SOOO SLOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!!
Jim Lamborn
Fun place for dinner after work. Been here twice now and a great place for a drink after work - but stay around and have a meal at the adjoining restraurant. Not an extensive menu but every meal as been great so far. Great fit out and a vibrant crowd. Whilst they misplaced our booking, they quickly found us a table and brought us some complementary olives - nice touch.
The steak is possibly the best I have had I 6 months and the pork cutlet was awesome.
Daniel Grigg
Ordered lunch here with a couple friends and had a very pleasing experience. The service, contrary to other reviewers was good - attentive, friendly and helpful with the menu. The decor and outdoor area was lovely and my meal was creative, fresh and appealing. Specifically a fig, buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto and rocket salad.

Skip the Treehouse at brunchtime. After going to the Treehouse for wine and nibbles earlier in the year I was looking forward to brunching there last Saturday morning.

On arrival we were not seated by staff so found our own table and then waited for 10 minutes without service.
I then went and found some menus and water and met a waitress who apologised and said she would be right with us. Around 5 to 10 minutes later I then approached another waitress who took our order. Food took around 20 minutes to arrive, followed by our coffees which we had to reorder. We had no table service while eating and had to chase down the bill. ughhh...

Lovely building and outside dining area, good food, dire service! We won't be going back from brunch but would maybe return for wine on the lovely terrace.
Zara
Mixed Bag. Gorgeously outfitted and the food's generally good, if only it didn't take so long to order and to see actual food arrive. Service is a mixed bag too, the older staff are attentive, polite and very efficient. Some of the younger staff have a lot to learn from them about hospitality, especially those creating first impressions at the front door.
MR
Ok food, nice place but possibly the worst service ever... How hard is it to make eye contact and take an order.
Lisa
The bircher muesli and the blueberry pancakes with honey comb butter are without a doubt the best we have ever had. We have been numerous times now for their awesome breakfasts and get the same awesome, quick, super tasty and friendly service!! Def a must to try!!
Aza Knightryder
Food is amazing, try the eye fillet. excellent staff, decor is unique. Great atmosphere!
John
Would be cool if the staff didn't think they were so cool. Service was rubbish. You need to understand the market you are in and hire staff appropriate to the market. You aren't the Greenwood so don't hire people who could get a job there.
