Always great food, generous portions, presented well!

Friendly staff, good coffee, delicious food. What more do you need😊. We ordered the pancakes and the açai bowl. I’d happily go back for both, but also curious to try some of the other menu options.

Great place! I ordered spicy pancetta and egg roll with a side of tasty tomato relish. Recommended and it wasn't that spicy. Boyfriend ordered his plate with toast, spicy pancetta, mushrooms and eggs.

Had some coffee here and it was great Great customer service, someone welcomed us and guided us in and another beautiful lady took our orders Would definitely come back here again I saw some great food on the tables

Friendly staff and ok food. We had the pancakes and oats. It took a while for the food to come out. I think better options elsewhere

Beautiful little cafe on a peaceful street, serving the vibrant North Shore community. Staff are lovely. Coffee is good. Food is delish and the menu is diverse. Tried the blueberry pancakes which did not disappoint 🥞 very much a treat! Lovely ambience on weekends. Situated on leafy West Street, a short walk from Pacific Highway, and approx 20 mins walk / 5 mins drive from North Sydney station

The restaurant is placed in a nice location in North Sydney and they have a good fare if you dont have any dietary restrictions. I had the mushy burger at sotta and it had a nice soft bun but the burger by itself was average. The shoe string fries on the side redeemed that definitely. If you are looking for a quick lunch in North Sydney it's definitely one of the options.

Great takeaway coffee! Would recommend Can’t comment on food as we didn’t order any.

We love this place. Fantastic food, lovely coffee and great people. To top it off, it has a gorgeous corner position which enjoys the sun - perfect!

We really love the coffee and creative, delicious breakfast menu - so many great choices and always fresh!

Particularly like the freshly made orange, carrot, apply and ginger juice; scrambled egg with spciy pancetta and sourdough toast, and a skim latte/piccolo.

I came here in the morning for a quick takeaway coffee and it was surprisingly busy. Staff are friendly and attentive. My soy mocha didn’t taste like real chocolate so it makes me think they used powder or syrup as it was overly sweet.

it was horrible the chips were stable the beef burger was cold

I enjoyed Sotto on West! I had the gone fishing salad and it was fantastic - it was packed with such yummy ingredients and so flavoursome that I could have eaten it without dressing. The fish served with it was served on a completely different plate because it was such a good sized portion of fish! My wife had the California burger and she didn’t finish it because the patty was very dry and crumbly which is a shame. The cafe is full of flies but I think that is due to the fact that it is raining heavily outside. It is a bit dirty and I see food stains and splatters on the walls and menus. The wait staff are really kind and friendly. I was fiddling with my teapot and looking at the tea leaves inside and a kind waiter came over with a little plate that had a tea bag on it because he thought I wanted the tea stronger :’) it was a lovely little trip to this cafe.

According to our good mate, this place is the best cafe in North Sydney and while can’t say for certain that it is, the experience wasn’t bad and overall we were pretty happy.

So the infamous “Colonel”, my mate recommended me due to my love of fried chicken and it was quite promising. Sure I prefer bones on my chicken cause that’s where all the good bits are the batter and sauce were good and side of pickles and slaw - can’t really complain.

The ubiquitous Avocado Toast dish was equally promising and honestly how can this go wrong???

Look it gets a four because well, I might lose a friend otherwise so there. It’s a slightly biased review but then again if your in the area and your sick of Devon do come here.
Most amazing atmosphere and staff ever!!!! Great food and an amazing family ❤️ I come early in the morning and they are always beautiful and have great service.

The sandwich was basic. My toast with add ons was unexciting. Nothing on the menu was particularly appealing. Bit more of an old fashioned menu but that can work if the food is good. Probably won't be back because there was nothing memorable about the meal.

It's tucked away in the backstreets of the neighbourhood of North Sydney, away from the main drag. And the speed of service reflects the laid back casual dining - which I have to admit I didn't appreciate - being on my lunchbreak and waiting 25 minutes for my order.
That said, the Colonels Chicken is a great dish. The chicken is perfectly cooked - nice crunchy and slightly spicy crust and soft and moist on the inside. The coleslaw was fresh, crisp and draped in a very nice dressing - which wasn't overdone. The side of pickles helped to balance the flavour.
Will be back when I'm not in a rush.
Service was friendly and very apologetic for my wait.

This could be a great cafe because the food is very good, however a few things let it down which is a real shame:
- even if you dine there they serve fruit juice in takeaway plastic cups! So bad and unnecessary for the environment! When we spoke politely to management about it he was unapologetic, loud, defensive in his response and said it was for economic reasons.
- it's overpriced. $76 for bacon, tomatoes and eggs on 1 piece of toast, 2 coffees and 2 juices!
- decaf coffee is disgusting.
- like another reviewer has mentioned they don't greet you at the door and you sort of find your own way.

I think for these reasons I'll stick to other cafes in the area like Eighty Ate or Jagos from now on. Real pity.
customer service was good. however the meals were very tiny for what we paid for. i paid $19 for a southern fried chicken bowl with slaw. chicken was perfect but the slaw portion was tiny! it wasn't very well balanced and i was quite disappointed as it was highly overpriced. Also found a hair in my slaw!!!

coffee here isn't as strong as vento, vento is much stronger whilst the coffee here is more milk based (vento has tobys whilst sotto has allpress). Definitely recommend the coffee at vento rather than sotto

The service is TERRIBLE!!! No one greeted or offer us a table when we came in; we had to ask and wait for the menu; we had to ask for straws; one of the girls looked a bit clueless when running the floor and didn't have a pen when came to take our order; and, worst of all, one member of staff approached me to get off my seat so he could get some items out of the storage space under the bench... I'm sorry, but shouldn't that be done during the quite hours of service, even better, PRIOR to the breakfast rush...?!
Apart from the poor service, the food was quite lovely. The plates are smaller than the average serve, and this is not exactly a bad thing, by the end of the meal we were fully satisfied leaving nothing on the plate. I had 'my hot morrocan affair' which comes with a pair of poached eggs (not on the menu). The fritters were super tasty and the halloumi cheese goes really well with the dish, I personally would've liked bit more of that harissa sauce.
The juice of the day was nice and fresh, and served in a tall glass which is nice to see considering you are paying $8 for it.
I've read other reviews commenting of the quality of the coffee but today we were really happy with our coffees.
I would like to go back, but the service is real turn off!

What a great little brunch spot. Hidden away in between the houses between Crows Nest and North Sydney. Great weekend crowd especially if you like cute dogs. We struggled to selected from the menu, so many great dishes. Both dishes were smaller than expected, but the flavor made up for it. The fritters may not look like much, but they'll have asking for seconds.

I came here from reading review and food pics. The cafe is nicely decorated with area to sit outside. I ordered Moroccan style corn, zucchini, broccoli fritters with quinoa salad. It also came with 2 poached eggs and mashed avocado. I like the concept and the food was good but nothing exciting.

This cafe is to be avoided. The staff are incredibly rude, the service is extremely slow and the coffee, when it gets to your table, is cold. Go across the road instead or better go to Jagoes on Miller - so much better.

Nice venue and lovely service. Unique menu was fun and hard to decide. The special was green breakfast bowl with dukah eggs. A little overpriced for size, but very tasty. Both coffees were cold which was disappointing.
Brunch On Joy
Located on the corner of West and Carlow St in North Sydney, this sun drenched cafe is always busy especially on weekends. Breakfast is served all day and specials seem to change seasonally. There's also lots of cakes and pastries if you want something light. My recommended dish would be Ron Burgundy or

Tasty food and good coffee. Charming little cafe in the North. I came here after my friend suggested this place, it didn't disappoint. I got a skinny piccolo and the mushroom special (egg, garlic thyme butter wild mushrooms, walnuts, goats cheese and spinach). Lee got the corn fritters with bacon and a latte. Both were so fresh and delicious! . Service was prompt and staff were lovely and friendly - very keen to help! Can't wait to go back, the banana bread sounds great.

Fave cafe in the North. Hands down favourite cafĂŠ north of the bridge. Friendly wait staff, perfect food, fast fresh and delicious coffee every time. Have taken local and out of town friends here and everyone loves it every time.

May 6, 2015 Leave a Comment Last weekend my gorgeous & fun-loving friend Jen and I took a trip out to Alexandria to check out the much-fabled & talked about Grounds . I’d heard a million & one stories about this mythical place. The food was amazing, farm-to-table & all that, they had small stalls situated all over the premises selling fresh, delectable nibbles & there was a pig. Called Kevin Bacon. I was sold. So off we went out to Alexandria! We decided to be spontaneous (having only made this plan at lunchtime the previous day) & hadn’t booked a table so we got there bright & early, a little before 12 noon. A lovely lady kindly told us we’d be needing to wait around an hour & a half (!!!) for our table but happily handed us a buzzer (the good ol’ fashioned pub kind that lets you know when your food is ready) & took our names down so we were free to wander to our hearts content! We checked out the aforementioned pig (abso-bloody-lutely huge & definitely not nearly photogenic enough for this post so the miniature horse & chickens above will have to suffice) & gave the whole area a bit of a walk-through. They’ve done up the whole lovely area in this perfect mash-up of industrial & farm-friendly. Of course there’s the actual Grounds restaurant, but there’s also a fun, slightly more casual burger bar serving easily portable meals that can be eaten on the go or in the beautiful greenhouse near the fountain above. Tables & chairs are literally everywhere so if you don’t feel like waiting around for the restaurant, you can simply order something at this healthy fast food joint & sit down amidst the shrubbery, breathing in the fresh air & relishing this patch of greenery in the heart of the city. We had some seriously unseasonably hot weather the day we went (which seems like miles away from today’s gale force winds & pounding rain!) so I went with an outfit that could be easily customised to allow for the hot weather. Not to mention these super comfy ballet

Terrible service ... shame. Unfortunately after boycotting the place for a while due to terrible service , and giving them another go , not much has changed . Great coffee good food though hit and miss to be served promptly or forgotton about... or your order not put in leaving you to wait over half an hour for a coffee from when arriving. Staff with memories not much better than those of a goldfish shouldn't work in hospitality.

It's a good setup - well lit, cool spring breeze and a decor best described as both fun and homely. Staff are early 20s, friendly and service is quick...Sotto's menu is fairly cliched but has some interest twists. The owner clearly loves bacon, an ingredient that features on half the menu.

Sotto’s Italian owner Danny says he sometimes wonders what his deceased Nanna would think if she knew the fate of her precious heirloom china. It’s hanging upside-down the ceiling of his stylish café on the corner of North Sydney’s West street – colourful teacups and teapots carefully carved out by a diamond-cutting drill bit and fitted with light bulbs that give the décor a personal touch. Its not the only one – the menu items are cheeky one-liners like ‘Rodney stop being so corny’ (zucchini fritters named after Rodney, the Serb-Croat co-owner of the place), ‘Sweet dreams are made of 3 of these’ (ricotta pancakes with berry compote, house-made honeycomb, dutch cinnamon and ice cream) and ‘Hungover much? If you are do it all’ for a protein-packed double egg and bacon panini. It all looks rather promising, as we settle down to breakfast on an autumny Saturday morning with amber and ruby-red maple leaves blowing outside on the cobblestone street. The waiter tells us that Danny lives in t

Sotto on West dishes up good ol' breakfast favourites and delicious coffee. The menu isn't overwhelming so orders are quick and food comes out with a blink of an eye (even on a Sunday!).

OVERPRICED, TERRIBLE SERVICE AND REALLY BAD COFFEE. All in the making of an experience at Sotto. Bought my friend from the US here last week as she had just got in early in the morning and was so embarassed. Service was unwelcoming, and the staff seemed more concerned with chatting to one another than serving their customers. Breakfast was expensive $4/5 per side and the avocado didn't appear very fresh - seemed liked two day old avocadoes bulked out with some herbs and lemon. Food all heavily underseasoned (I like salt but I have never had to add so much to a meal - everything was just bland), eggs were hard and overdone and the coffee was probably the worst part of the experience (too hot, burnt and frankly undrinkable).
Danny
The only redeeming feature of Sotto is the fact the coffee and food is quite good. Every time we come the service is quite poor (not sure why we keep coming) asked for water for our table 4 times this morning before receiving, food served before cutlery even reached the table, while standing in the queue to pay was quite literally pushed past by two of the servers without the attempt of saying excuse me or sorry... Think this will be the last time.

Loved it!. Went here for lunch on a saturday – which meant that both breakfast and lunch menus were available! (told this happens only on weekends) as a vegetarian i often only have one or two things on the menu to choose from but was absolutely spoilt for choise here! not only that but my meat loving boyfriend dug into the chicken and bacon burger and was totally stoked. I chose the vegetarian brekky salad- it was healthy but with juusst the right touch of indulgence. staff were super helpful- gave us their full attention even though it was busy. for a fresh and friendly meal on the north shore or a quick cuppa be sure to check it out- sit in the back garden under the big tree for a more relaxed afternoon

Take a good book to read while you wait for your order. Don't order a second coffee because it's just too hard. Heating outside during winter would be nice. and a no smoking sign would help too.
Snuffleupagus
Always busy but not sure why. Took a gamble and strayed from Eighty Ate across the road and regretted it slightly. Staff were lovely but the brunch options were quite overpriced and tiny. I tried to like it but couldn't quite make it.

Great brunch options absolutely delicious! Coffee great too. Friendly staff and lovely outdoor area.

Great Sunday lunch. Waitstaff couldn't have been friendlier. Quick service without feeling rushed. Had the falafel salad and fresh juice. Both were amazing. Stumbled on this place but will definitely return. Breakfast menu looked amazing as well!

Yummy breakfast & pram friendly. I love a cafe that is pram friendly as a mum. And when the waiter attends to you straight away when you ask for a high chair..well that just like cherry on top of a cake!
Had the corn fritters and they were perfect with 2 poached eggs and halomi. Coffees were on the small size though for that kick in the morning. They need to be bit more generous in that department.
Sadey
Good food and good service but small portions. Really need more on the plate for the price. Two small corn fritters, one bacon rasher and two small pieces of Haloumi for $22 is not the best value.
VegeTARAian Sydney
Sat outside on a sunny day for brunch, this is the perfect place to be. The corn and zucchini fritters are really good.

Great decor and absolutely awesome food. So flavoursome and well priced. A simple menu which I always love. Try this place for a chilled out weekend brunch or lunch.
Cinntonic
Flavoursome. The healthy option 'Rockstar' were very fresh veggies and everything on the plate tasted sensational.

Seriously poor service. Waiting an hour for a simple breakfast right now. Coffee even seemed a challenge. Avoid it you'll starve.

The food is absolutely excellent! and well presented! unfortunately as being my first time, the manager or bosses where very rude to their staff, and the whole cafe could hear the argument. this is not good customer service and would not return only based on the rage they took out on their staff.
Noel B
Great food, we live locally and the food is consistently innovative and tasty at great cafe prices, whether it be breakfast or lunch. Only draw back is a waitress who feels like she is doing us a favour by being there. Great food, manage your expectation on service.

Love this place! My favorite cafe in sydney. The staff, food and atmosphere is second to none. The only thing it does not have is home delivery. Try this place now.
MichaelF
Great food, relaxed atmosphere and friendly approachable staff. For breakfast try the Trio of Mushrooms, for lunch try the chicken burger with spicy pancetta or the pulled pork sandwich, wrap or salad.
