Review Greenwood Chinese Restaurant - North Sydney

The food here is great but the service is a real let down. We booked a table a week ahead for 12noon and got seated at 12:20. Unfortunately we were unaware and weren’t told that they don’t wheel the food trolleys here and you just order from the menu, which more time was wasted. Personally I feel this place is understaffed. When the food finally does come out, it doesn’t disappoint. Portions are generous. The chicken feet and pork spare ribs were my favourite. Highly recommend booking a table and getting here early.

Food was not bad, quite authentic. The staff were a little rude. The tea needs to be much hotter as it was only mild warm. Would've been 4 stars but due to service reasons had to deduct a star to 3. They also accept different surcharges for different regions of credit cards which I have not seen before since I was born in this country. 1% for local credit cards and 2% for international credit cards.

It has been almost a year since my last visit. Good quality was above average but the food were not as hot as it should be. Service level dropped a bit. Staff talking loudly on the floor, and they seems urging you to place order once you were seated. Not even allowing time to read the menu. Now two-hour parking will be offered for customers. Yet 5% surcharge on Sunday.

A go to traditional Cantonese restaurant for those who live around Lower North Shore area. The peking duck is on point, remember to order extra set of pancakes, so can have more servings. Would also recommend the ox tongue, the peppers with prawn paste and seafood fried rice! The XO pipis also never disappoint. Quality and service is generally quite consistent!

Fresh and quick and tasty not too salty. Lo bak was soggy can be made better to be more firm and crispy. Overall customer service good and place not over crowded.

Greenwood Chinese Restaurant is a top restaurant that I've been going too for many years. It's established, great food and I know my Chinese Food extremely well and they totally nail it. LOVE THEIR WORK and loved their Yumcha!

Love the yumcha!! Cheaper price compares to city. Best part is they take order instead of letting people wait for trolley, very efficient approach especially after we experienced many terrible service at other places
Austin Devaney
Very tasty. Great service. Edward was very polite. The food is quite possibly the best tasting food I have ever had. I pledged to eat here every day for the rest of the month.
Andrew Lane
Average food. Overpriced. What's more they charged $25 for tea ($2.50 per person) even though only two at the table drunk it!
Nikki Carvell
Food was fantastic, great service, will definitely be back for more!

We go there for yum cha on Sundays from time to time. The selection is pretty decent and price is ok. Staff friendly and helpful. No longer as good a deal as parking on Sundays no longer free underneath, and their "stylish" black chairs are a trap for young kids as they are not stable, so beware.

Great yum cha and delicious dinner!!! Must go when you are around!!!!

I head to Greenwood Chinese Restaurant my friend PH. Overall, I have to concur with some of the other reviews that Greenwood Chinese Restaurant is bit more pricey. However I don't know of any other yum cha options in North Sydney. You would have to head into the City or up the north shore. It may be a matter of demand v.s supply.

Been many years since I have been back here. This used to be our go-to place for a business lunch when I was based in North Sydney. They have updated the place and it looks much improved. The dim sum tastes about the same which is to say, very good! Love their Prawn and Chives dumplings as well as the steamed rice rolls. Service was a bit indifferent, which is a shame. Otherwise, would recommend this place for some very decent yum cha if you are in this part of town.

The yum cha food themselves were quite tasty. Range though was a bit limited, you actually have to specifically order some normal yum cha items including the steam rice rolls. Prices were very expensive, standard yum cha dishes coming to $31 per person. The thing I most had a problem with, was the force service, where they just keep dropping food on the table when I tell them we don't want it, and keep telling them to take them back. Hold your yum cha craving & travel a bit further to Chinatown if you can.

They have renovated since I last went about 2 years ago. The atmosphere was nice, and staff were friendly. There were a variety of steamed dim sums and fried foods. We ordered almost every steamed dim sum, and some spring rolls. Most steamed ones are quite nice, occasionally one of the wrappers would be slightly thicker. The springroll was quite unique as the filling was chives and prawns.

However, we have to order the steamed rice rolls and some of the more uncommon dim sums. Pro is they make them fresh, the con is you would not get to eat them if you don't know about the dim sum, which narrows the options for yumcha first timers.

uodated *

Was excited to check it out after the new renovations food is about the same but the prices are about 50% more than what it costed pre renovation. Pushing this to a bit unaffordable for what you get. The cost of doing business in the greenwood plaza as they were forced to do renovations and be shut down for months.

Best Chinese food place in North Sydney. I come here whenever I have friends in town. It's similar to places back in Vancouver (the number 1 destination for all foods from Asia except Thai ) Been here for both lunch Dim Sum and evening dinner. Would recommend

Ordered:
1. Crab and noodle - this is the best Chinese Hong Kong restaurant in Sydney for seafood, the seafood is always fresh and cooked really well
2. Winter hot pot - hot pot is only available in winter and it’s really good with lots of seafood and vegetables
3. Various Seafood dishes - their prawn, scallops and steam barramundi and any fresh fish of the day are all super delicious, I find it hard to find another seafood place that cook seafood that well like they do
4. Peking duck - good to very good considering this is a seafood restaurant
5. Various meat dishes - not that great compared to their seafood, the chicken dishes are average, the beef has too strong meaty taste, stick with seafood
6. Vegetable dishes - just average nothing that stands out

They also provide soup and dessert of the day and they are always so delicious! Great way to begin and end the meal.

Will I go back: yes, this is the only Chinese Hong Kong style seafood dinner restaurant that I would go as I don’t like any other ones in Australia because a lot of them are either too oily, dirty or not as tasty.

So disappointed as we made the booking for the Chinese New Year team lunch a while ago. We rang up the place just to secure the booking today but found out they never booked us in!!! How terrible the service and the management there!!! And they got no clue of what happened! No intention to fix up the situation! Great! Happy Year of Dog!

Banquet menu for 10, $58.8 per head.

Started off with Tofu & pork belly, crispy. 4/5
3 bbq platter, duck, chicken, BBQ pork. 3.5/5
Osyter, super juicy but flavor was average and bland.
Squid Rice, tasty and flavoursome, served with pineapple juice.
Crab, noodle, super delicious. 4/5
Fried Chicken, over cooked and dry. 1/5
Eel steamed, Abit tough and to oily 1/5

Overall mix review. Below average service. Spent half the time chasing them for dishes. Very disappointing.

Great Food. Definitely rate this Yum Cha over other places that are on the North Side. They have all the Yum Cha favourites as well like mango pancakes. The service was great and quick. Found the staff to be friendly and the place was busy. Will definitely go again

Eating in for yum cha is always great, and at usually ~$20-$30/head it’s in the regular price range. Quality is always exceptional. As with all yum cha restaurants the service can be a little hit and miss, but is generally pretty good.

At the lunchtime takeaway section though, they’ve installed a new point of sale system that has rigid prices. So a combination wonton noodle soup that was previously $13.50 is now around $18 if you ask for the fairly regular 4 wonton, as they charge $1.50 per wonton. They’re delicious wonton though!

Came here a year ago for CNY with extended family and everthing was mediocre at best. But after change in management the food is much better!

great food, authentic, not a usual Aussie Chinese restaurant, more Hong Kongish. this is the best in Sydney. Service can always be more polished but Chinese are more interested in state than service.

Most staff were quiet friendly, but one particular staff was quite rough in all that he did.The food was quite nice and portion sizes were all perfect, The scallops on that they day were very fresh.Overall, it is a place worth trying...

Came here on a Saturday night. They were quite busy so I understand that our initial reception at not having booked was met with being denied a table by the first staff member we spoke to. Anyway, I will just comment on food after getting our table. We were all craving ginger and shallot crabs so we ordered that and a plate of vegetables. The crab wasn't bad but definitely had better elsewhere for a lot cheaper.

This is probably the only yum cha place in the area. I didn't experience pushy service as mentioned in other reviews. I found service to be friendly and helpful.
The quality of the food is good and the place is very clean. Prices are good for the portion size, location, service and cleanliness.

Very expensive for chinese. Waitstaff were very pushy. There was no prices . Food was good though which was a relief . Very quick service of course as the waitstaff just roam with carts of food

Went there during Chinese New Year with a group of friends. The restaurant was packed and fully booked. We were lucky to see live lion dance show there. The food is amazing! Squid with glutinous rice is our favourite. Absolutely no complain about the service.

Yum Cha was Rubbish. Everything was cold. Staff were rude. Food was not very flavoursome. Very basic and greasy. I would not go there again. Need to somewhere that's a bit busier.

I have not had yum cha for many years and some friends suggested something different for lunch. We grabbed the prawn and chives dumplings, pork slices, green beans, and a bunch of other food. We were all full and the bill was $94 for 3 of us. Not a cheap lunch per head but a great meal

We had dinner here the other night and the food was good especially the peking duck. Service is better than most Chinese restaurants in the North Shore.

Very decent yum Cha, comfortable and spacious. Service was good comparing to the normal Chinese restaurants. Food was great! Had some very fresh dim sim, Peking duck and ginger shallot crab. Peking duck was fresh and lean, skin was crispy. Crab was meaty and the flavoring was excellent, all the shallot, ginger and garlic maximized the freshness and sweetness of the crab. Very satisfied.

Came here for quick Yum cha with friends. Very convenient location. Food is just average some considered too savory to our liking.

Service is excellent. Very polite even when informing about XO sauce surcharge.

Bottomline : average food. Great service. Average value

The only yum cha place AT north Sydney. Food is ok, and place is spacious.
However the service was a bit pushy and interruptive. My manager was joking that I should protect them from being unsold with the Australianized yum cha food.
Greenwood Seafood Restaurant is your typical Chinese restaurant, it's the only option for yum cha in North Sydney that I'm aware of so it's generally quite busy however it simply doesn't match up to the better yum cha in Sydney.
Sarah Norris
One of my favourite lunch time venues. It gets quite busy but the service is also on point. You can be in and out within an hour. The dumplings are always hot and fresh and don't forget to order the mango pancakes. They will make your day!
Melbourne Munchie
Staff were nice, spring rolls and wonton soup was nice but didn't like the prawns or sun chi bou, batter was pretty bad, and quite expensive.. Can go to a very upmarket Chinese restaurant in Melbourne for the same price.. Wouldn't go back..

As part of a belated Chinese New Year celebration my sister's mother-in-law shouted us to yum cha at Green Chinese Restaurant. On Sundays the whole Greenwood Plaza seems to be abandoned and hidden away from the Pacific Highway side is this busy Yum Cha restaurant. I suggest street parking as opposed to paying for the flat rate Wilson parking below the plaza. Even though the place was busy it was no congested... unlike the ones at Cabramatta. There was no line out the door, the tables were banked so close together that the trolly knocks your chair and people weren't running around frantically. These sesame balls were plumped up after being deep fried. As large as one and half oranges. We ordered them just out of amazement. I think one of the highlights for me had to be the fried taro with meat. It was amazing. Even enough to compete with my favourite at Vinh Phat at Cabramatta. The mixture inside wasn't as silky smooth but the outer layer was done magnificently. I've never been a fan of buns. I took a small sample later in the meal when it was cold. It was hard to eat and just unpleasant to me. The pastries on these were done well. Even enough for my mum to praise them as she normally would;t consider eating something so indulgent. I didn't even try one of these. We over overed.... Nothing like a plate of vegetables to break down all the dim sims and carbs you're intaking. The dim sims were a lighter colour than usual and the meatiness not as intense. Overall still had good texture and if you smother in the chilli sauces you probably won't even notice much. On another note, what restaurant is so tight with sauces...we had nine people on the table and they started off with one plate of chilli sauce to share. The prawn dumplings were great... you can't really go too wrong with these... quite consistent across all restaurants. I loved how the trolley lady brought this to our table and did a whole spiel on how great this was... and how they don;t always have it and we m

The soft pillow like pancakes houses the beautiful “you can’t go wrong with that” combination of the rich gamey duck meat and crispy skin paired with a sticky sweet hoisin sauce, and a juicy “too cool for school” cucumber. It is one of the most sensational comfort dining experiences one could have and you’re heart breaks into a million pieces when you’re left staring at the empty plate.

The classic yet smallish Pork dim sims (special $6.60) are as expected. Pretty decent sized Steamed vegetable dumplings (special $6.60), prawn dumplings (special $6.60), prawn and scallop dumplings (special $6.60) and prawn and vegetable dumplings (specia

FOOD DRENCHED IN OIL, SALT AND MSG. Extremely amateur Chinese food with heaps of MSG, oil and salt

Not the best dumplings. I have visited twice for yum cha & although service has been good the dumplings are tasteless & don't seem fresh. Such a shame as it is a nice clean restaurant & staff are friendly.

Good Yum Cha choice on the North side. Firstly the restaurant is very clean, smelled great, was light and airy and the china (crockery) was really nice. The food smelled great, was fresh and had a good range. The BBQ pork was delish, as were the regular dim sum items. Was a 'touch' on the $ side, but we did order a few 'specials' (2 people $80). All in all, great little spot.

Best yum cha. I love yum cha and have eaten many meals in Oz and overseas. This was undoubtedly the best I have eaten. Fresh, hot, traditional and very, very tasty. Well done.

Not so great. Went for yum cha on a Saturday at lunchtime and was pretty disappointed. For a dining room of 40 people there were two carts going around. We waited nearly half an hour to get our first dish, and after that only managed to get two more before we gave up and left.

The quality of the food was bad - the dim sims had obviously been put back in the steamer after going cold. There wasn't much variety in terms of dishes either, we saw the same cold, fried dumplings circle the restaurant the entire time we were there. The only halfway decent dish was the mango pancakes.

If you're after decent yum cha give this place a miss.

Rude staff and poor food quality. Food was of poor quality and not fresh. When we complained to staff about one particular dish smelling off, they were rude and dismissive about it. Won't be going back.

Yum cha!. Right price for the service and quality. Love that there is a yum cha option in NSyd for lunch. In comparison to other Syd yum cha it's "average". But we like it as it's been consistently good, hence we go there often. Can get busy but never waited long for a table of 5, also quick and easy to reserve a table.

Great place for lunch or dinner, brilliant selection of crash carts with dim sum (yum cha)..I highly rate the duck pancakes for a main, and the mango pancakes for desert...loads of choice, great value and this week they had chinese new year celebrations that made lunch exciting..
