Review The Roots North Sydney - North Sydney

Andrew Huang
I visited the Roots with a small group of us from my company. The place itself wasn't too hard to find. It is situated under Fitness First. The establishment have two separate areas on either side of the pathway for people to dine. The pathway is also a thoroughfare all the way to the other side. The food itself was alright, although none of us were raving about it. We ordered a pretty diverse set of meals. My lamb shoulder was a little overwhelmed with greens and the lamb was pretty dry to eat. A couple of us had to use hot sauce which made it more bearable. It wasn't really worth the $19.50 for me personally. The meal was really healthy, I'll definitely give them that. The downside to a meal that is too healthy is that there is barely any taste. All the meals were really well presented. I wouldn't recommend people who aren't used to eating rabbit food to come here as the taste of vegetables is a little overwhelming. I'm not sure if they were having a down day because the lamb was too dry too and the overall meal did lack in taste for me. If you like to eat vegetables it may be something worth trying and definitely very instagrammable!

Good coffee - not sure which roaster, but had a SO Nicaragua LB. Good food - had a crispy spiced chicken burger and the steak sandwich. We went during lunch rush, so the food service was a little slow. Pretty much what I would expect for North Sydney during that time. All tables were occupied for the duration we were there. Good service - attentive and friendly staff. Checked up on us during the meal. Will be back for coffee. Feedback: The chairs and tables we sat on in the outside area didn't seem to be the right height for each other. I.e. the chair seemed too low for the table. So it was a little awkward to eat and cut up the food.

Roots is a hidden but well known coffee and lunch place in north sydney. Its perfect for work lunches and their salads are sooooo good! I've recently started coming for breakfast too for the good coffee and quiet atmosphere in the mornings.

One of the best Wagyu beef burgers I've had in a very long time. Bit pricey and way too busy at lunch time but definitely wort checking out. Ps. avoid the chips they are worse than Maccas

Happened across this cafe when looking for coffee and lunch. Great find, great food and coffee. Right in the centre of north Sydney but feels removed from the chaos. This is the health bowl but whole menu looks great

Hard to find a quiet place in North Sydney CBD...but this is about as good as any you'd find. Perfect and with strong proper meals for that overdue catchup, business powwow or to sit and read a book and be alone with your thoughts. Staff are friendly and flexible to customise your meal (I had a chicken matso ball soup without the matso ball, as displayed below). Coffee was spot on. Well recommended.
