Review Soul Origin - North Sydney

Andrew Huang
I work and live in North Sydney so Soul Origin is my local cafe. I actually only came here because my normal cafe that does $2 coffees during the weekday was closed so this is my first time. Soul Origin is located in the Greenwood Plaza closer to the Miller St entrance. It's surrounded by cafes, all of which were open as well on the week of the new years. It'a actually been an interesting experience trying different cafes in the Greenwood Plaza while almost every other cafe outside werw closed as I actually witnessed and tasted some of the best takeaway coffees in North Sydney. Yes I'm talking specifically about takeaways. As most people know, a lot of cafes don't put effort into their takeaway coffees as the lid is closed so you can't see the art and this is the case even if I take my lid as I hand them my cup. This is why I prefer to go dine at a cafe just so I can have the experience of coffee art. Soul Origin actually put the effort into making a coffee art on my regular latte. It was really clear and distinct with smooth colouring. The latte art degradation test obviously didn't go as well as a dine coffee, but it did better than most cafes. The coffee was almost half consumed before it completely disintegrated, although that may have been due to my lid which I used later after chatting over coffee for a bit with my colleagues. I had my lid off during this point. Overall, it seems like the competition at Greenwood Plaza is actually pretty hot for cafes to put some effort into making coffees and making them taste good. I actually rate most of the cafes that I've been to in the plaza because of the competition. I actually recommend people try any cafes in the plaza over the other cafes for their takeaways as I've tried nearly all the cafes in North Sydney.

$2 choc chip cookies are extremely salty, couldn't finish it. The little white bits in the picture are salt.

The coffee is delicious and the staff remembered my order by heart within 2 weeks! Staff is always up for a chat too if you like! Thanks for the yogurt this morning, I will not forget it again :-)

My day is incomplete without getting an iced mocha from here. The staff is just adorable and super sweet. Always greeting with smile . Love love love them.

Run of the mill office cafe in North Sydney with pre made sandwiches and sweet treats. We've picked up coffee from here before and it's always been nice. The sandwiches are not outstanding but not bad either but there's heaps of choice in greenwood so walk around a bit and find what you're looking for

Very unpleasant experience with one of the chinese staff this afternoon (10 oct, 2.50pm ) and i guess she is the manager because she the one that talked rude to me! Today, I tried to use my Free ticket on Greenwood plaza branch in north sydney, She asked me where i got it from? So i said "i got it from my friends" (Which is the regular customers) She tried to explained to me about that FREE VOUCHER is the OLD ONE AND BEEN LONG TIMES, YOU CAN'T CLAIM IN HERE AND HAVE TO USE IT IN THE GRAND OPENING BRANCH WHERE YOU'VE GOT IT FROM. SO I CAN'T GIVE YOU FREE COFFEE ANYMORE AND THIS IS THE LAST TIME. I hope the head office or owner read this. The Vouchers have writen, "THIS VOUCHER WAS SUPPLIED BY SOUL ORIGIN SUPPORT CENTRE TO BE USED AT ANY STORE" also there is no details that said expired date on the vouchers. You were the worst experience in my life. Please, do something like put her in another branch, give her more training, even don't offer her jobs anymore. or you will loose more customers. I wont never come back there and all my friends will know the story However, this was definitely the worst experience ever and it has ruined my entire day. Never come back again. The business supposed to make keep customers coming back, not only myself, but also other people must feel same as me.

Let's be honest their salads are 80% mixed lettuce, I had to ask for a second piece of avocado. Very poor, light as a feather salad, for $8.50.

Second time I've purchased a half chicken and avocado and greek salad. No avocado or sundried tomatoes in the chicken and avocado and no feta cheese or olives in the greek salad!! Disappointing.

Lovely salad, friendly staff.
I chose the Chicken Schnitzel salad with the roasted vege in medium size topped with limo mayo dressing. I will be coming back to this place for more healthy salads!. yum

My favourite salad brand in Sydney!
Always order the beef salad, so good!
Chicken schnitzel is perfect with mayo source
It’s interesting that they charge different prices for different stores. For example the large size salad is $11.9 in Greenwood Plaza in North Sydney but $12.5 in World Square in city.

What I notice about this place it’s always has a delectable selection of breakfast food, sandwiches, pasta and salad also sweet treats.
Coffee section is always producing constantly good caffeine drink.
Price is moderate and competitive.

I usually get takeaway from this joint and bring it back to the office when I'm working away from base.
The food is always good and service is super quick.
Prices are average and is great for something not too bad for your health.
Located in Greenwood so is super convenient and close.

Their coffee is on the expensive side but I love how their coffee loyalty needs five stamps instead of the usual ten for a free one. In terms of quality, it's also pretty decent

We got some of their chicken & corn soup for lunch. A good serving size for $5, which came with a bread roll. The chicken pieces were quite chunky and the corn flavour was distinct. Overall good value.

I wouldn't use gourmet to describe the sandwich and salads in Soul Origin, after all it is a chain that mass produces standard take-away food for under $10. The portion is always generous, I usually have half at lunch and the other half as afternoon tea. The panini bread sometimes isn't toasted well enough and crunchy, but the chicken schnitzel is good. Pasta isn't cooked exactly al dente but the chicken pesto penne is ok. It is a no-frill takeaway lunch at reasonable price, no more no less.

I don't think I've ever had a meal that had chorizo in it that I didn't like. To be fair though, my wrap had plenty of other good elements, like the sauce, soft egg and fresh wrap. The coffee here is really good as well.

Ordered my coffee from the hey you app... After waiting 10 minutes and listening to them call out about 20 names I asked where mine was and was told that I had to pick it up from the "other counter" literally 1m away - it had been sitting there for ages, no one called my name or my order or said there was something waiting.
Am I supposed to be psychic and know when it is ready and ask for it? Won't go here again, will go to taste baguette one shop over. At least they tell you when your coffee is ready!

Love their sandwiches (especially their toasted chicken avocado one which I recommend) and their salad. The service at Soul Origin was great, staff who worked there were really lively and friendly when I last went ordered lunch there. This is definitely a place I recommend to others, I also know a few friends who love the food on their menu. Their menu offer great variety and a wide selection!

This was the place that really got me into salads. I loved their selection. There's definitely some salads I love more than others - their beetroot one is really good and I love their beef one just as much.
Brunch On Joy
The friendliest, most cheerful crew at Soul Origin, they make my mornings smile :) I recommend the takeaway breakfast combo - a large coffee and breakfast wrap $8.50. Best time to visit Monday - Friday mornings.

No selection Saturday. We went there on a Saturday on a voucher deal. They only had 4 salads and about the same number of sandwiches to choose from. The chicken sandwich was stale and meat dry.

The lady said the do not have a full selection on Saturdays. Too bad, we were not impressed

Just another sandwich shop trying to get on the healthy food bandwagon (a little too late)...

Sandwich OK. Been here a couple of times and a bit hit and miss depending upon the particular item chosen. It's better to go when it's not just the dregs being served. Went at peak time and got a soy and linseed chicken and avocado sandwich. They didn't cremate it solid on the toaster so all good. Generally energetic young staff. Sandwich hit the spot so no demerits today. Not cheap but it's North Sydney and Greenwood Plaza.
