I placed an order at 5.30pm on a Friday and was still waiting at 6pm but it’s worth the wait. The monkey salad was incredible!!! Ask for extra chickpeas they are soooo good! The tahini dressing on the salad was delicious (I asked for extra - the salad definitely needed it). The sweet potato wedges were disappointing...they were really soggy - felt like I was eating boiled, wet potatoes. The coyo dressing that comes with the wedges is yummy though. The pita bread was larger than I expected and good value for $2. Total: $27 pick up. Can’t wait to return!
At my lunch break I went walking up High Street and found this salad bar. I always liked homemade falafels on tabouleh but never tried a Middle-Eastern take on a salad like this before. I decided to order the "monkey salad" (pictured) on the menu and it was amazing from the first bite. The flavour and texture was spot on without being drastic. We both enjoyed our red falafel and cauliflower pitas although thought that they were a bit heavy on the tahini . It was getting seriously wet in there . Whilst we thought the roasted eggplant really needed some lemon juice as it was suffering the same fate albeit the richness in this instance was just too much . The vegan tahini ice cream however was absolutely delicious . Would return . One word summary. - TAHINI

Fantastic food! Honest, simple, tasty and fresh. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They also offer free extra tahini and pita to have with your meal. There are no proper chairs and tables inside, but there are a few bar stools to sit on.
Straight up delicious. I had the sabich pita, which came generously filled with boiled egg, fried eggplant, fresh vegetables and a heck tonne of hummus. My companion tried the vegan hot dog - who knew a carrot could be so sweet, tender and delicious? Served in a charcoal roll and topped with sweet potato crisps, it was a revelation. Don’t miss it!
Absolutely LOVE this place, I’m not vegetarian but the food is and I crave the sabich pita pocket all the time. I’ve been trialling all of the smoothies on the menu and the Monte Carlo is ( in my opinion) the best one, my friend got the salted caramel one which is also really yummy too! Tahina is so wholesome and delicious and not too pricey
Middle eastern and vegan restaurant, you can't go wrong. Food is flavourful and service is ok. It can get busy and you will have to wait a bit to get your food. Overall was a good experience.
Absolutely love this place!! The falafels are possibly my favourite in Melbourne! It's really good value for money, staff are friendly and swift service. Very limited seating so best to get takeaway unless you can time it well and grab an outdoor table.
Would come back in a heartbeat! This place did healthy food nice and delicious without being bland or boring. The falafel salad was delish with all the right ratios - only wish we had added a few extra falafel in the mix! The humus serving was amazing although a bit more pita was required. Finally, the rice pudding dessert was a winner. We’ll be back!
Fantastic place offering the true ambience of an authentic street side eatery. The menu is just as a place like this should be, uncomplicated and kept very simple. Melt in your mouth pitta pockets and fresh baked bread - awesome! It’s pretty packed inside and outside seating is limited so expect a rush (but in a good way) and snug bar/stool seating.
Fast, friendly service. Falafel is never dry, fresh bread. Great smoothies! I've been here several times and loved it every time. The fact that they have bread and dip available straight away is a bonus!
Tahina Bar is such a cute little place!
It has groovy tunes, cool lighting and friendly staff which gives the restaurant a really cool vibe. As mentioned earlier, it is always busy, meaning it is a bit of a tight fit when you are waiting for your order, but a lot of people is also a good sign that the food there is banging, and banging it was.
Super delicious and fresh. Can't go past the felafel salad - so, so good. Have heard that the vegan carrot hot dogs are amazing also - so will be trying those on my next visit
I stopped by Tahina in Northcote today and tried out the Yarakoht Pita Pocket! The sautéed mushrooms and the pumpkin were cooked just enough and were so soft that it had just melted into my mouth! Although I think more hummus should have been added into the Pita Pocket. I know I’m no vegetarian or vegan but I must say that that was one of the best things that I have ever tried! Although when I go back I’ll be getting that again with a salad so that I’m feasting like a boss😎. And the best part is, is that you can even have dinner there too!
Great little place! Decently priced. Warm friendly service. The red falafel pita pocket is awesome, the falafel isn’t dry at all, packed full of salad, lots of hummus and tangy pickled cabbage. Quite a generous portion.

Food was really yum! Great falafels, fresh salad and pita bread. We got the falafel salad and side of potatoes. Would have ordered more if we could, but portion sizes are generous so you won’t need to. Service were friendly.
Only real downfall (if you’re wanting this) is limited seating and atmosphere is a little cramped. Good for two people or if you got takeaway.

As a lover of all things falafel. I got recommendations to try Tahina from a colleague of mine. So on one busy afternoon, I decided to come try it out. I was in love with my dips and kudos to the chef/cook for adding extra chilli as requested. Amazing crunchy falafels. You’re only getting 4* because of your coffee 😳😳. That was disappointment.
Lovely fresh delicious food! Really good falafel salad & pita. My friend got the eggplant which she liked too. Fast service. Would love to see vegan eggz on the menu instead of chicken eggs (that say that meaningless "free range" on them to make people feel better)
But yeah really happy with a good selection of vegan options, will definitely return.
We absolutely loved the Tahina Bar in Northcote! The Shakshuka platter consisted of Israeli-salad, spicy green salad, pickled cabbage, hummus, tahini and pita bread with 2 free-range eggs is definitely a must try - This was quite filling for the both of us (but if you're extra hungry by all means this is a perfect meal for a hungry belly)! We also loved the amazing Vegan carrot hot dog: The sweet potato chips suited the meal so well and added the element of crunch. The carrot hot dog actually had similar textures to a hot dog and was cooked very well! We also had the Vegan Malabi which was coconut milk pudding infused with rose water and topped with pistachios and maple syrup was a perfect way to finish our meal! We would most definitely come again! 4.5/5

Super yummo food with great Vegan options. I had Green falafel pita, cauliflower pita, roast cauliflower and roast potatoes. Would recommend all of those except maybe the roast cauliflower, relative to the other dishes!
Having just discovered a new food/travel show on Netflix, I'd been introduced to the wonderful sabich pita and then when I found it on the menu at Tahina I knew I had to try it. The thinly sliced eggplant alongside egg, potato, hummus and salad worked well in the pita ($11.50), however I would have liked more eggplant and potato, rather than being predominantly green salad.
@The hummus plate ($7) was a generous portion of hummus (really light and fluffy but still very creamy) but it only came with one little pita, which was quickly used up. Perhaps they give you more if you eat in, rather than takeaway?
This place always seems to be packed, so you're lucky if you can get a seat. Otherwise there are a few parks in the neighbourhood which are nice on a sunny day

Amazing vegetarian Israeli food in a cosy space. We tried a few dishes - the vegan carrot hotdog which was unique and delicious. The felafel plate - two types of felafel with salad and tahini and the felafels were so good. Vegan malabi for dessert which was light and fresh and perfect for a hot day.
Also awesome is that there is self serve spicy pickled chillies (so good and adds a much needed acidic punch to the dishes), pickled cabbage and tahini and pita bread.
Best of all the staff are lovely and enthusiastic and you can watch them make your food if you sit at the counter.
How can vegetarian food taste so good? Tried their falafel salad, shaksukha and roasted eggplant, all so decadent and satisfying, now that we are living locally I'm hoping to be coming here on a regular basis! The only downside is the size of the venue, difficult for eating with a group. Haven't yet try their delivery yet but will do so in the near future.

Loved being able to walk in off the street and find this place with plenty of vegan/vegetarian options, cooked freshly. Had the Yarakoht and it was a little spicy for me but I forgave that due to the tastiness! Next time I'll just ask for a little less spice and I think it will be perfect!
Love it! Great good and flavours with reasonable price. Had the pita pocket and it was so filling for one that I had to takeaway! The shakshuka platter (white) was so flavourful and goes so well with the pita bread.
Ratio Decidendi: They say that no one makes friends with salad but clearly someone forgot to tell Tahina. It says a lot when you only realize after the meal that it was completely vegetarian and that was due in no small part to the amazing falafels which can be ordered in either a salad or pita pocket. All too often in the past I’ve been underwhelmed by dry and pasty falafels, but not here – crisp on the outside with a light and smooth chickpea inner – they were delicious in their own right without having to rely on the other toppings and condiments to carry them over the line.
Can’t even describe how delicious the food is here!! Sometimes we ask ourselves if it’s overkill if we eat it for dinner 3 nights a week!! The desserts are amazing too, chocolate soufflé and the rose water infused Pana cotta oh.my.god! There’s also a secret hot dog that’s not on the menu!! You must try it, and try sit at the counter where the chefs cook,it’s so much fun watching them in action !! 💖💖

Authentic and fresh middle eastern food, Tahina Bar is simply delicious! The hummus was fresh and delicious, the eggplant salad was delicious!! And the cauliflower tahina melted in our mouths! Incredibly reasonable prices too! A must visit!
Delicious food! The falafel is very good. Big servings, and quick service. It gets a little busy and easily packed, but moves quickly and worth the hassle.
Best vego food around! The roasted eggplant with toasted kale is a flavour bomb esp with the bread cuts/pita. I got the Youkout pita with added white beans & a green falafel on the side. A filling meal, but entirely delicious & affordable! The only criticism I have, is I think the chefs could be a lil more moderate in their oil use..!! (It was a bit excessive for my personal taste)

I buy a pita pocket here at least once a week and they come up delicious every time - such good value for a quick dinner. The patties are perfectly crunchy and the pockets have a good balance of tahini, salad, pickles and felafel. Not to mention the soft chewy bread that I have literally had dreams about. When dining in, the Shakshuka is nicely gooey and tasty and the monkey salad huge, wholesome and full of all my fave salad ingredients (avo, corn, chickpeas, quinoa). The potato side is the stuff of childhood wet dreams and the cauliflower a slightly healthier but delish option. Staff have a pretty hands off approach (which is welcome) but seem to know what they're doing, and you can watch the chefs twirling and chopping while you eat at the bar. Small but on point selection of beers too. Love this place and wish it was on every street corner!

Food is great - the best felafels in the area in my opinion and I love that there are two choices of felafels. The salads are yum but I wouldn't mind seeing more salad options. I could eat the bread all day.
Only ever had takeaway but the good news is that they're quick. Parking is often an issue so I usually like to ride shotgun with someone who can keep the car running.

Best falafel I have eaten outside of the walls of the Old City in Jerusalem.
I ordered the green falafel (falafel, parsley, mint, coriander, hummus, Israeli salad, pickled cabbage and tahini) with chilli pita pocket, my wife had the yarakoht (similar to mine, but with sautéed mushrooms and pumpkin instead of falafel and none of the fresh herbs) pita pocket and we shared a serve of the roasted potatoes (combined with rosemary, thyme, oregano, chilli and a dill based mayo style sauce).
Prompt service, fresh and flavour packed meals and a nice little outdoor area. Most people will get takeaway meals due to the limited seating inside and out, but if you do get to eat in, I suggest you do so.
We both enjoyed the flavour combinations of our pita pockets. The falafel was brilliant for me; crunchy, packed with the incredible chickpea and fresh herb flavours and great contrast between the tangy pickled cabbage, the fresh chunky salad and the smooth hummus.
We'd both return here. And our experience was great. Thanks heaps Tahina! We will definitely be back. Enjoy!!
Absolutely great food and variety of options. Even my friend who eats meat in every meal was impressed at the pita pockets - filling and delicious. The red falafels are a must try! Nice salads and sides too, with the roast cauliflower being a favourite.
I don't adore their hummus, tastes a bit plain and unseasoned to me.
I have found that staff can be a bit unfriendly and dismissive, even at unbusy times. Also, the layout of the actual store isn't great and if the store is even slightly busy there can be many bumps / accidental pushes / sliding past people to collect orders.
Very very reasonably priced, good quality vegetarian food ideal for both take away or a meal out with one or two others. There is not much seating available inside with narrow benches lining the walls but the food can just as easily be made to take away and it is seemingly very popular for that.
The food we ordered was delicious. The flavours were great, a good amount of spice and the serving sizes generous. We opted for a Shakshuka and the monkey salad as we were seated but the falafel pitas were also very tempting. In fact the whole menu was very appealing especially if you like vegetarian food and middle eastern flavours. Even if you don't I would say you would struggle to find something that wasn't appealing on their menu.
The hummus is also definitely worth a try, either with the meal or from the samples they leave near the counter.
We will definitely be returning to try something else off the menu and would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
AMAZING!!! The "Red Falafel" was full of flavour and spices (as per menu), and just $11 for something so scrumptious! The cauliflower bowl was full to the brim, creamy and pulling apart at the fork. At $8, it was a perfect choice to start the night. Finally, the green sharing platter had so many compartments of pita bread, hummus, veggies, eggs and more!
All food was hot and came out in a quick manner. Service was friendly and the restaurant was packed to capacity when I visited!

Absolutely nothing in Melbourne even comes close to the food at Tahina. This is one of the only places I continually head back to again and again. Their food is packed with flavour, and is made with love and care. This place is fantastic!
Everything here is so good - simple food, prepared beautifully. The whole roast cauliflower blew our minds. Our friend insisted we try the dessert – even though we were so full – and we were glad we found room for it. They have excellent options for the gastronomically challenged, and the service was wonderful. Cannot wait to go back.
Definitely a return back to the store. Girls outing my friend and I decided to give this place a shot since we finished a great workout therefore the craving of clean eating kicked in. Overall wonderful experience and their pockets with Hummus was wonderful. One quick tip to my fellow foodies, in order to secure a seat in please arrive at the store as it opens as there are a lot of customers that head in for take away or sit down to munch (not long after the store opens).

Eventhough located on High St, Northcote, it feels a bit like one of those super quaint New York diner. Tiny, hard to find, easy to missed, not much from the outside, the only saving grace is the "hand" neon sign on the window if you are walking.
Strong "exotic" aroma from this Jewish inspired kitchen, limited dining seats, all stools, open kitchen and a few graphic arts on the wall. Shaksouka seems to be their signature dish.
On their coffee, Latte is pretty strong and well made at $4 for a small.

Pretty dope place in Northcote with sick vibes. The open kitchen makes a very welcoming and entertaining scene when there are lulls in conversation.
The food itself was decent, however I do honestly prefer the falafels from "Very Good Falafel" in Brunswick. I found that the pickled cabbage a little too vinegary and the falafel balls a little to dry for my tastes.
However, the tahini and hummus were smashing.
Would recommend this as a place to bring work colleagues/friends.

I have been on the falafel hunt for the past 2 months, it's fair to say I have eaten a few and when told about tahina I new I had to check it out.
The layout is nice with an open kitchen so you can see the action while you eat, the menu was large with lots of variety which was a big plus in my book.
The food was top shelf, 6 falafels per serve with two different flavours. The flavour was delicious and texture quite smooth after the initial crunch. The potatoes were delicious roasted with rosemary and garlic just to die for.
I highly recommend checking it out I'll be returning.

Dropped in here on Saturday night for a bite to eat before a movie as was recommended to us by a friend.
The place was tightly packed and busy. We took a few seats at the bar against the wall and perused the menu. In my opinion, the menu descriptions do not do the food justice. While you look at a vegetarian menu that describes salads, dips and pita pockets, what you see being served around you looks so much more appetising.
We went for the Hummus Plate, soft warm bread with a delicious plate of garnished hummus and the Roasted Potatoes shiney, crispy gems of tastiness as a starter. Following this we tried the Yarakoht and the Lutsi pita pockets...which are so much more than just your average pita pocket. More of this awesome, soft pita bread, packed full of warm, filling, mouth watering flavour balanced with just enough fresh salad ingredients to make for an amazing vegetarian, fast food meal.
Highly recommend this place for a quick takeaway/sit in option pre/post activities on High Street, that's a lot better than it sounds on the menu. YUM!

Plenty of veggie options here. The falafel is good and they've got a good selection of smoothies. It's priced well. I ordered the monkey salad and I didn't love it. My friend's options were good though. It's quite small and the decor is simple.

The food was fresh and tasty, very enjoyable and flavoursome. The falafels were good, however the could not match up with our favourite ones in another venue.

Fresh and delicious vegetarian Israeli food, I often get takeaways here. I have had the felafel salad, monkey salad, and various pitas. Friendly staff and consistent quality. The only reason I don't mark a full 5 stars is due to the tiny size of the place. It's impossible to ever get a seat and you are not able to book a table. Even waiting for a takeaway is difficult, I always feel like I'm in the way and usually wait outside. I think the fact that it's always packed like this is just testament to the great food though. Keep up the great work Tahina!

Been here a couple of times now over the last year or so. First time was after some drinks on High St. I had a falafel pita pocket... it was pretty tasty but I didnt think of it as anything amazing. In the last few weeks I have come back a couple times. l have had the green pita pocket every time now and it is so yummy. Delicious moist falafel and tasty pita bread. Cheap and filling. I also tried the vegan choc souffle which blew my mind with how delish it was. Nice, rich and luxurious. Managed to snag a seat the times ive come lately. Great place. Looking forward to trying other menu items.

This place is absolutely flawless. Came here on a bleak Melbourne day, and Tahina had just what I needed to warm my soul. I had the falafel pita, and it was exquisite. Fresh, full of flavour and an absolute treat. Loved watching the guys prepare it in the kitchen right in front of me. The pita offcuts served on the counter with dips was a lovely touch. Cannot wait to come back!
This place is my favourite vegetarian restaurant in Melbourne so far. It is so cheap for what you get, the flavours are absolutely amazing. They have a free snack bar with pita bread, hummus and curated chillies which are delicious and make you forget that you are waiting for food, although the food always comes out quickly regardless. This is always my go to for a quick dinner outing with my partner and I'll definitely be bringing my friends here when they visit!

If eating Israeli food at Tahina isn’t on your New Year bucket list, it should be. Juliana Mare filled up on the menu faves and has the scoop on the best street-style dishes. I’m just going to throw it out there that I don’t know much about Israeli food. But I owe a lot to this cuisine because my favourite breakfast food – baked eggs – has its roots in shakshuka, which is one of the most popular ethnic dishes from the Middle East.
Had the falafel plate - was actually really good. Roast cauliflower side was by far the highlight. Happy all round. Would definitely recommend!
I had ear marked going to Tahina Bar for some time so the expectations were high. I'm glad to report that this place didn't disappoint in the slightest. The space is small but that seems to just add to the charm of the place and the flavours did the rest. We ordered the red shakshuka which was full of flavour and spice (which I like) and the "Monkey Salad" which was filling and bursting with taste. There are still a few items in the menu I have to come back for as well!
Tahina has Great food, good portion sizes I just wish the shop was more spacious -- great service though! And always consistent food have been back time after time

Awesome Middle Eastern Israeli vegetarian food in a wild busy setting. We had the cauliflower dish, the eggplant one and a falafel platter. Everything was delicious with a focus on tahini flavours with heaps of cucumber and sauerkraut to lighten it up.
You can help yourself to extra pickled chillis, sauerkraut, tahini and pita bread which is a nice touch.
Only criticism is the falafels. They seemed to be made from cooked chickpeas rather than soaked dried chickpeas which made them less crispy and a bit stodgy in comparison. The flavour was nice and I don't know if these are traditional in a different part of Israel. Perhaps it is just personal taste and varied regional differences.
Can't wait to try the shakshuka next time which all look exceptional.
Been here many times and it never disappoints! The food is delish and full of flavour. The smoothies are also something that you must try. Highly recommend Tahina Bar!
This place is a new favourite. Delicious, wholesome feed every time ! Best green felafels and hummous. Tahini on tap? Genius. (By "tap" I mean served in a bowl)
Delicious flavourful vegetarian food at a reasonable price. Friendly staff. You can order a few different dishes and sit down and make a nice meal of it, or grab a cheap but delicious wrap to go. I look forward to trying some more of the dishes here, if it wasn't so busy all the time!
Being vegetarians, we hunt down vegetarian places and eat! We ordered a pita each and a felafel salad take away. The food is sensational. It is amazing how everyone from Greece/Macedonia up to the Iran/Pakistan border have a claim to the middle eastern cuisine and how each of them show beautiful subtlety! The food was amazing and the place does look very small, like smaller than a cafe (I wish it was the size of Brother Alec at least), but we got take away, so it did not affect us. I would definitely recommend and we will go back again, perhaps to dine in so we can have those smoothies!!
I've never eaten Israeli food before although I realise it is basically what we seem to refer as Middle Eastern. This place feels authentic. Food is delicious! Definitely recommend.
Despite all the variety on High St I feel like there isn't anywhere like Tahina. Their food is rich, filling and all vegetarian! I've eaten in once and had take away twice. It was fun dining in when it was busy and watching the team work like a well oiled machine. Defs recommend.

High St, Northcote boasts a plethora of eateries varying in cuisines, prices and styles. Regardless of what you are after, there is bound to be an option for you there. One Sunday night, when we couldn’t be bothered cooking, we decided to pop down there for a cheap and cheerful meal. To me, cheap and cheerful is that type of meal that is easy on the wallet, without any pretences of starched tablecloths or fancy folded napkins, but doesn’t compromise on taste and instead offers a hearty, home style feed.
Seriously good Israeli vegetarian street food. The flavours are so good obviously coming from the freshness of the produce used . Very busy but worth the wait. Yum
Popped in for a quick lunch. Service was efficient. I ordered a green falafel pita pocket to takeaway. The falafels were very enjoyable: crunchy on the outside with a soft interior. I only wish they had an option of a hot sauce to compliment it. Will definitely go back to try more dishes
Fabulous vegetarian food alert!
I blame myself for not having a bigger tummy to fill up those gorgeously executed yet humble food from Tahina. I also blame myself for not discovering this place much earlier. They really set a very high bar for vegetarian food in terms of flavour and varieties. Many more to order in my future visits.
After visiting Israel I have always been on the hunt for authentic Israeli food and this place is 100% on point! I had picked up take away from here before and their food always takes me back to my travels!
This time I ate in and had the roasted cauliflower with hummus, lemon and tahini and it was insanely good (as per usual)
Would definitely recommend this place, in particular to people who are dipping their toe into a vegetarian diet. You will not miss the meat and will be completely satisfied!

I'm surprised I hadn't been here despite frequenting High St Northcote on several occasions. A mate recommended we dine here. We got the shared platter for 2. It was a lot of food to get through. But a lot of grear food. Best falafel's I've ever had. The roast veggies are yum with the mango and coriander sauce. The bread is soft and holds its own flavour. Keen to be back here soon.
The best of the best! Have been eating here since it opened, and was just perfection to come back to after 2 years away from Melbourne. Still the high quality and high taste I know it to be. We had the date night meal for 2 and the portion size was massive and so delicious. The owner made it and was just cool to still see him there doing what he does best after building such an amazing restaurant. No.1 in Melbourne for Middle Eastern, and I say that after living in Coburg for years too!! Go, go go!!
Delicious food… hummus plate is my favourite
I just ate here for the first time. The Green Falafel was exceptional. The components from the fresh to the fried, the spiced to the creamy and the generous serve was much better than this cook could ever produce at home. It seems I was the last to know. Please don:t change a thing.
Solid meal and very friendly service.
We got the Falafel Salad and Sabich - the waiter saw that we were sharing meals and offered to provide the Sabich pita pocket deconstructed which was a welcome change from other places that don’t think about the customers in that way.

Can’t get past the monkey salad. I’ve moved interstate now and dream about this dish. Back visiting Melbourne and my first meal of course had to be at Tahina. Whole menu is divine!! Thank you!
