We had a lovely meal at the Peacock Inn. The food was yum. Lots to choose from. Kids meals were brought out first (always appreciated!) Great food, great service and great wine list. Thanks!
Classic Northcote pub with great beer garden courtyard.
Depending on what kind of experience you're after. the Peacock Inn is your classic Northcote pub.
Best? The outdoor courtyard, with its fairy lights, non smoking area, TVs set up, outdoor bar for busy times and a fantastic and iconic palm tree right in the middle.
Food is average/good - depending on your expectations, nothing fancy. They have removed the minimum card transaction amount which is great - not having to order 3 drinks at a time anymore! Some great times here, great location, a good place to go for a wine/beer with friends.
Some great food and drink special offers, an incredible beer garden and an extensive drink selection! One of my favourite pubs in Northcote and surroundings.
Classic Northcote pub, nice food, extensive menu, cold beer in a traditional pub setting.
Great courtyard for a quiet one or two....really lovely place on the hill on busy High St.
Worth a visit and I enjoy watching sport at this venue. Long live the Peacock Inn, keep doing what you have been doing 👍
Lovely food, really delicious and good value. Whiting was really fresh and tender. Scotch filler came out a bit cold, but being Mother’s Day it was really crowded so the staff were under pressure. Free bubbles for M/Day for the ladies too.
Great outdoor beer garden, came here for a mid-week get together with friends and it was such a nice casual atmosphere. Staff were all friendly and nice. The food was all delicious and a good price point. When you order the chips, they certainly give you a good serve! Came out in a big bucket with a nice big serve of aioli which I loved. I had the lamb salad which is an unusual choice at a pub, but it was delicious. The lamb was super tender and I couldn't get enough - a nice healthy choice (when youre devouring a bucket of chips at the same time)! We also got the chicken wings, nachos and chicken parmas - no one was disappointed, everything was great. My one recommendation would be regarding the wine list - would love to see the Jansz sparkling served by the glass rather than just the bottle, as this was just what I felt like!
Had a group booking on Sunday. Had a table in the beer garden. Great atmosphere. We shared chips, wedges and wings amongst us. The eggplant chips were very yummy. The staff were friendly. Will return again for a meal and the great outdoor area in Summer. The live music was also great.
One half of #tofeedtwo and a close friend popped into the Peacock Inn on a sunny and therefore very busy Saturday afternoon.
We sat in the beer garden which was full of positive energy, good vibes & lots of laughs. We sat on a share table due to the amount of people & ordered the calamari salad, seafood special and a bowl of wedges. The food was tasty, filling and was actually above what we expected. Best part is you pay for your meals at the counter so we were free to leave when suited.
All we wanted was a good glass of red and some pub chips. We ordered a lovely SA grenache/malbec/shiraz blend and our chips arrived in a bucket, perfectly cooked.
Fantastic atmosphere. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Very relaxed place to have dinner where the workers aren't always hovering around, but there when you need something. Food was great also.
Been here a bunch of times for beers and hot chips. And it never dissappionts with its pub vibe, nice outdoor area and awesome staff.
Found out they could veganise the eggplant parma (taking off the cheese). Easy option there!!! Was expecting a stock standard saucy cheeseless eggplant parma with some chips and salad on the side. It came out no chips (lucky we had bought an extra bowl worth) but was this fancy shmancy eggplant parma salady thing. It was sooo tasty! Would eat again! :)
Went for Easter lunch and shared a few platters with a friend. The mussels were amazing I would return for those, it was definitely value for money. All the meals were quite generous and tasty. The eggplant chips were perfectly seasoned and cut, I have had many different types and this is one of my top favorites. Croquettes were full of flavour and different textures. Although all the meals were satisfying, the korean chicken was dry and were served warm-cold.
The atmosphere is also enjoyable. Its relaxing outdoors, also plenty of entertainment inside. Will be back for sure.
Had a meal here and found out something about what's been missing in general lunch places around Northcote - authenticity. If you're looking for the next cool place that lists food as if it were listing a formula and brings the cutlery in a jam jar, this isn't the place for you. It's a pub! And it's not trying to be anything else, so folks that are looking for good vegetarian options can find plenty of hipster cafes to fit the bill. The pulled pork burger with chips was great! And you know another thing this place does well? It serves lots of beer from a tap. Genius!
I came here for a school reunion which was held on the beautiful outdoor area. The beer garden was quite a nice setting for this and worked well for the large group given you pay at the counter. I ordered dips and bread and a classic Parma. It's pub food but there are some slightly more fancy choices on the menu if you are so inclined. A nice little local eat with plenty of options for vegetarians (we are in northcote after all). Great location for a lovely night
Cold beer and steak cant go wrong! Cooked very well. Med to well. Staff nice and friendly too next time ill have the steak with a nice red wine.
Enjoyed a simple but great pub meal. Had the steak sandwich in a fresh cibatta roll which was giant sized. My friend had the cheeseburger and apple cider which was really refreshing.
A great pub providing great service as well as lovely restaurant dining room at the front of the pub. Wonder out the back to the entertainment area where there is a pool table and large tv screens (with sport playing...not the midday movie) as well as an outdoor seating area.
Is there anything more Aussie than the local pub? I don't think so. This pub has it all: a great beer garden, delicious icy cold beers, tasty pub food (hello eggplant parma) and laid-back staff.
The front bistro is very much a gastro pub deal. Polished wood, nice glasses and a killer range of craft beers on tap. It's all bistro service so order and pay at the counter.
Out back is where the magic happens. They have a lovely beer garden and courtyard where you can sit and chat to your mates. The back bar is pretty old school and being in central Northcote it's also kept quite nice. This is a proper Straya' pub and a few "old mates" still go here. One of the last pubs in this area to not go completely hipster.
Warm and cosy it's a great place to meet friends and have drinks.love the happy hour. Ordered from the tapas bar menu and we had salt-and-pepper squid and the Moroccan meatballs also the eggplant chips everything was absolutely delicious. Friendly and attentive service. Also they have a beer garden which will be lovely in the summer time. Absolutely recommend.👍
the staff are always warm & friendly and really accomodating to vegan requests with absolutely no hassle! makes it easy when seeing people around the area for lunch. their lunch special always tastes great so is great value.
I've tried the crab croquettes twice. Four on the plate in chipotle mayo. A beautiful entrée if you can handle the spicy combination of chilli and lemongrass. The menu deserves further exploration. But the main reason I come here is the pinball machines (Kiss & Game of Thrones).
Walking in here after every other joint in town has closed could be regrettable, but if you are inebriated enough it should be reasonably acceptable. On entry the bouncer calls to me. 'Hey Mate, what's in the bag?' to which I politely reply 'Just a couple of books' I precede to open my bag, but the Bouncer has different Ideas 'DONT OPEN IT! I'M NOT BLOODY CUSTOMS MATE!' he seemed shocked like instead of the books I had mentioned which were the soul inhabitants of my bag, he was expecting some sort of brutal sex toy collection, the likes of which would bring down his blissful world of innocence and ignorance.
Reasonable price on beer, 2 extra points for 2 pool tables.
We came for dinner. I tried one of the vegetarian dishes: the roasted pumpkin and quinoa salad.
It was good, nothing amazing. The portion was small compared to the price.
Maybe next time I go back I should give a try to one of their burgers.
Great experience! The bar man was lovely and genuinely nice. I dropped in here for a wine and a nibble and was blown away with this huge bucket of eggplant chips! Not only great value for money ($10) but they were very tasty with a bit of spicy seasoning and the ranch dipping sauce was delicious.
Was also able to take the (mostly) leftover chips home as takeaway which is always good!
It was very empty being the afternoon on a Wednesday but the beer garden was large and you could tell it would get full and be popular. Inside had nice ambience and would be grouse when the fire is going.
Location wise it's not close to me but I will def come back from this experience. A proper pub-pub!
Alright pub grub; good boozer in Northo. Its no Langy hotel on a Wednesday night........,but I'm all over this like a fat kid on a hot dog because i keep winning the 51 pot Friday arf raffle....suffer in your jocks!!
Great beer garden and lovely service. Table service outside on the weekends (or is it just Sunday?) which felt like such a treat for a pub atmosphere. Food was exactly what we were after--hearty and full and affordable.A good, reliable pub, not trying to be anything but that. I come by the Peacock for a particular reason/experience and am satisfied whenever I do. Cheers guys.
Good local pub with plenty going on. The "Front Room" restaurant / bistro caters for those wanting a cut above the standard pub bistro fare. The range from the bar is pub classics , with the standout being the "Sth Melb Dim Sims" , two with Tabasco sauce is a great meal.
Fantastic pub food here. Have ordered the Parma before and loved it, this time I had the Fish and Chips which were great! My friend ordered the American Burger which gave me extreme food envy! Will definitely try it next time!
Wow! Had the chicken curry $10 lunch deal yesterday and it was amazing. Lots of great spices, good portion, and a soft drink. I will be back!
I've eaten here three times since the new menu has come in and the food is fantastic. Pretty expensive but delicious. The pulled pork burger was amazing, the fish and chips is the perfect ratio of fish and batter and the steak sandwich is even better. The atmosphere is cosy and non pretentious (rare for northcote). I recommend it.
Good beer garden though pray the crowd is good.. The Peacock has a good menu, food is alright, and the beers are only slightly overpriced but there's one thing that will determine if you have a good night or not. The crowd.
I used to live 1 minute away and was here plenty of weekends and weeknights. Some were good when the crowd had a nice vibe to it. People being friendly etc. Though other nights there people will be drunk out of their mind and that aggressive feeling would come over the hotel which made the night a drainer.
I hope when you go there it's on one of the good nights.
Awesome new front bar - will be happy to take some swanky friends here to impress when needed
Parmasofmelbourne. Nothing beats a feed before just heading out, and a few days ago POM stopped by the jewel of the North, "The Cock"
The parma arrived no more than 10 minutes after ordered with the place packed. First impression wasn't good. The cheese looked rubbery and the chicken seemed dry.
But we should never judge a book by its cover.
The chicken was moist, the toppings were full of flavour and the sides were perfect. The cock has also mastered the art of providing the perfect amount of ham, subtle and not overpowering
This parma only looses points for size (but for the price it's still value for money) and the stack on the plate.
Would recommend to anyone who wants a sneaky feed in one of the best beer gardens in the area.
7.5/10
The beer garden is buzzing on a warm Saturday night and I am happy to have happened upon The Peacock Inn in Northcote. The menu is great, pub favourites and global fare there is a great selection of pasta plus anything from nachos to souvlaki! We make an excellent decision and get some bread and dips to enjoy first…. Have you ever seen such a good spread!!?? Amazing trio with warm Turkish bread and beautiful warmed olives. The beetroot dip is fruity and lovely, the hummus is perfect and the green dip like a creamy, minty pesto - delish!! Probably shouldn't have enjoyed too much as the mains arrive!! The steak sandwich is a substantial serve with a great fresh salad, good handful of chips and a pretty amazing steak sandwich! Several pieces of perfectly charred medium rare minute steaks teamed up with cheese, bacon, fried egg, salad and a spicy chutney - really really good!! The lamb souvlaki is exceptional! An incredible amount of beautiful lamb that has been cooked to perfection so t
The chicken was thick, succulent and fresh. The flavour of the mature, smooth Napolitana sauce that they put on top took the reins and controlled my tastebuds from then in. The ham didn’t get an opportunity to come through, and I could say that if they didn’t put ham on top, then I possibly might not have noticed. I found that I had eaten the entire parma before I even touched the chips or salad.
Terrific beer garden, good quality pub food, will come back again
I like it. Relaxed, fire, pinnies, good service. My only beef is the smokers lurking by the back door constantly and the smoke infiltrating the otherwise great back room. Food is always great though.
My husband is the annoying rugby yelling guy. The staff here are always accommodate him and his rugby needs as much as they can given the clashes with AFL. Seriously, theyre fantastic and so friendly. They look after regulars who can (and do) stumble here the next day for a hungover breakfast! Good job. I hope the bosses acknowledge the guys who bust a nut every night, because they deserve it! Food is good pub food, cheaper than the NSC and just as good. Keep it up guys! We'll see you next weekend I'm sure.
BRILLIANT! Had the "Pollo Loco" penne pasta on New Years Day, and am now addicted. Best pasta dish in Melbourne hands down. So tasty, I couldn't stop thinking about it, so had to come back 2 days later for lunch!
This is coming from someone who NEVER orders pasta, and deals strictly in parmas & steak.
This is the Tom Hawkins of meals! GET AROUND IT.
Came in dying for a pie. Tried the chicken and ham pot pie, must admit it was one of the tastiest pies I have eaten in a long time. Extremely simple, but was exactly was I wanted. It was only on the specials board, apart from that I don't think they do any other pies. Only complaint was that the chips were undercooked, and too salty, but I was completely stoked with my lunch. Beer is a touch on the expensive side, but its hard to find cheaper in Northcote these days. I ate in the bar out the back, I will come back to try the restaurant soon!
I had my 30th birthday here last night with about 25 family & friends in the dining room, the service was really good, food was also very good, there were no issues, the night ran smoothly!! very impressed! :)
