A surprise gem in the heart of Northcote, this dessert cafe is not one to be missed! As soon as we entered we were greeted with lovely staff and could instantly see the delicious sweet treats on display. We wish we could’ve managed to squeeze in some treats and cookies but we had to save room for the main items - will definitely be returning though!
The Belgian waffles were fluffy and rich on the inside but had a gorgeous crunch on the outside that went perfectly with the banana, cream and ice cream. A devilishly rich breakfast treat packed with sweetness. The ice cream was beautifully rich and chocolatey.
So much flavour was packed into the Nutella croissant. It was full of rich Nutella which nicely complimented the creamy vanilla gelato! The sliced banana and Oreo crumble added extra flavour which tied in beautifully! Such a filling hearty dish that was worth every calorie!
The berry smoothie bowl was a nice dish to balance out the other chocolatey desserts we ordered so we stayed somewhat healthy! The toppings were beautifully presented and the whole dish was extremely refreshing and tasted naturally sweet.
Best gelato in town but other items are not to the same standard.

Visited here with my friends around 9PM one night. It was so good this place opens late so we can easily stop by without worrying they might close or kick us out soon. The ambience was relaxing and nice. Interior was quite spacey, which was good. The people were really nice and always smiling--even when we took so long to choose our flavors, they still bore with us.We had two scoops of ice cream and a Butterbing, which we added on top. We really enjoyed the ice cream--texture was nice, like gelato. The Butterbing itself was amazing as well. Definitely a great place to visit.

Works for us. Mighty warm night and we stumbled on this place for a post dinner ice cream. It was going off. Smallish range here but what they had was very good. I’d happily return.

Located in High St Northcote Black Waffle is a place that fills your dessert needs! When we visited we tried the Hazelnut Heaven Waffles and couldn’t go without trying this amazing range of gelato flavours. We tried Lemon meringue pie and also Dark Choc and Beuno. Loved the taste of each flavour and you could definitely tell they were made in house.
We thank Black Waffle for our delicious desserts. All of our opinions are genuine and are based on our experience at the time of our visit.

Not only do they serve up incredible waffles, they also have amazing vegan and gluten free gelati, Italian cannoli, a dessert bar and more vegan and gluten free cake options!
We opted for the lemon curd and raspberry waffle and a ricotta cannoli and absolutely loved it! This place is perfect for a late night snack or a fun weekend spot to visit.
Lots of creative and delicious desserts. I like how their icecream is creamy and not overly sweet. Interesting flavours such as dragonfruit, lemon ricotta, and charcoal vanilla.
It made me so happy to see gluten-free sweet treat options as soon as I walked in! They also have a delicious selection of ice cream. The sticky date pudding I had was so scrummy! Lovely little spot for coffee and cake.

This big, open space is dessert paradise with the most delicious homemade waffles served in a variety of different ways. Crispy and fluffy with delicious toppings, I really love the waffles here.
There is also great ice cream and cakes, as well as fabulous coffee. The service is always good and the staff are friendly too. It's popular with locals too, especially on weekends when it can definitely get busier. A really nice place for a sweet treat.
Kidd' fave. Fantastic ice creams, one of the good places in Northcote. Coffee is not bad also. The window seats are great for people watching while eating their treats.
THE BEST ICE CREAM!
I had heard amazing things about black waffle mainly because of their decadent desserts! I went in to try some of their ice cream and my word are their flavours awesome. They have everything from carrot cake to charcoal. Most of them are vegan too! Which is a bonus for me as Dairy doesn’t agree with me.
I went for the carrot cake and the peanut butter Oreo ice cream. Holy moly. They changed my world. So tasty, smooth texture. Really ace.
I had a hot chocolate too and it was quite honestly one of the best I’ve had in Melbourne. It was smooth, creamy and not too rich.
I will be back time and time again.
Staff here were polite and friendly and had a smile on their face the whole time and went out of their way to make sure we were happy.
The ice cream is absolutely delicious, I had Caramel crunch and fell in love. My friend had the hazelnut heaven waffles and they were to die for! Couldn’t recommend Black Waffle high enough! Will definitely be returning.
Upon entering the shop the staff immediately greeted me enthusiastically! Wonderful atmosphere! Delicious homemade gelatos 😩!! Passion fruit, Caramel crunch and Nutella gelato are my favourites😍

Anytime is ice cream time and when the girlies suggested we check out Black Waffle. What we didn’t know was that it serves up vegan ice cream. Now, usually we run from the hills when something is vegan because I adore my dairy despite being lactose intolerant. BUT when the girlies said it’s pretty darn good, I had to check it out myself.

I had been eyeing black waffle for their bubblegum flavoured gelato , but soon enough they got GOT themed gelatos, and the THRONE nerd in me couldn’t wait any longer.
So we ended up ordering the

The bubblegum flavoured icecream tasted a lot like the chewing gum #boomer i used to have as a kid, good amount of sweet and strawberry flavoured.
But the game changer was definitely the NIGHT KING (VEGAN CHARCOAL VANILLA) with DRAGON GLASS 🐉. Yes my friend, you heard that one right. And honestly i first didnt realise the dragon glass until after the whole ice cream was done😅
But that is just so clever, whoever came with that brilliant idea @blackwafflemelbourne next time i come to the store i wanna meet you 😍
Also since we were there we thoughtof ordering something out of them menu.

Which was a well baked CRISPY toasted croissant filled with abundance of Nutella and a load of Oreo crumble with vanilla gelato on the side and it was like a COMBO MADE IN HEAVEN. It is the best croissant combo i had in a really long time. And did i mention how crispy the croissant was. Pure bliss.
▪️Hazelnut heaven
It was a waffle combo with fresh strawberries nicely roaster hazelnut crumbs nutella and vanilla gelato. But the waffles were kind of a disappointment for me. They had a dough like structure inside out. I felt that the outer crispness to the waffles were missing to this dish. Rest everything was just on point.
Overall i really had a great time at the Black Waffle and i would be coming back for more.

Don’t forget to try Bubble gum ice cream. Staff is very polite and they gave suggestion as well and if we do not want on dish and need on separate as u can see we ordered everything seperate then we can.

Lovely local coffee shop making an awesome cafe latte. Super friendly male who I see there often, I’m guessing he is one of the owners? All the staff are lovely and when I do indulge in a cheeky gelato this is my go to place! The chocolate ripple is to die for.
The service here is so friendly and super quick! These guys run a tight ship and you can tell by the team, they enjoy their job! I’m a local and whether I’m coming here for a quiet coffee away from the kids for an hour or bringing my extended family in for gelato on a friday night; we always leave satisfied. I don't think words can describe how excited I am to find a place that sells vegan ice cream that is soy-based rather than coconut, being the hater of coconut that I am. It helps that it's all very tasty - I had the mint chocolate chip flavor as well as some waffles and now pine for it every time I'm up north. I'll be back again soon...

Great spot for vegan treats when I'm in the area. Tried the waffles first, which are a bit gummy and heavy (as many vegan waffles are), but tasty nonetheless. Only complaint is that vegan options simply remove certain ingredients rather than swapping for vegan counterparts. I prefer going here for a cone, of which there are several great ones. The choc mint is a favourite.
The strawberry waffles here were SOOOO GOOOD!! Crunchy, not too sweet and served with amazing flavourful gelato! Best waffles I’ve ever had. Would definitely come back!
Visited here today on a Tuesday afternoon and tried the vegan waffles with Oreos, strawberries and chocolate sorbet. This really satisfied my sweet tooth however I recommend sharing as it can be a bit too much for one person! There are plenty of tables, spacious interior, self serve water and order at the counter. Staff are friendly. Would come back to try the non vegan waffles.
Quality Icecream, many amazing flavours to choose from making it take a while for you to decide on your order! The caramel cookie crunch is a crowd pleaser, it's definitely Speculoos flavour but I guess they thought people wouldn't know what that was. Located on high street it's the perfect place to grab desert after a nice dinner out!
Delicious ice cream had to go back days after my first visit! The first time I went for 1 scoop Bueno 1 scoop Carmel crunch only to realise the Carmel crunch was filled with crushed speculaas biscuit and how it contains no dairy had me scratching my head, the second time I just had to send it and get 2 scoops of Carmel crunch ( which should be renamed to speculaas crunch) stacked on a black waffle cone, and I had no regrets 👍
Nice local place for desserts and ice cream! I usually have dinner around the area and then pop by here after for dessert. Opens late which is good!
Tasty af ice cream with the flavours constantly changing. If you have the opportunity to try the bueno or caramel crunch flavour we highly recommend it! They also serve coffee and cakes making it an all round great dessert spot!

big tick for me! overall the flavour was amazing and something different i have never tried! also have to mention that they had heaps of gluten free options to choose from, another big tick from me!

Came in on a busy Saturday night expecting something amazing and we certainly got it. The vibe and atmosphere at Black Waffle was awesome.
Being not as hungry as we usually are we settled on the Banana Crepe with the addition of strawberries. We loved it, the ice cream is to die for and the waffle itself is really tasty, fresh and warm. It was well portioned and definitely well priced. Our coffees were also splendid and definitely exceeded our expectations.
The vibe and atmosphere at Black Waffle is very good, neither small and cramped nor too big where you feel like you are just trying to fill a small corner in a big establishment.
Overall, I would highly recommend a trip down to this fantastic desert bar!

Their iced chocolates are made with chocolate icecream, the first time i’ve ever had one made with chocolate icecream instead of vanilla and it was delicious! it’s changed my opinion on iced chocolates for sure!
Really great for a quick catch up or a longer coffee break - there's a good selection of coffee, bagels and desserts. The plain cream cheese bagel is particularly delicious, and I also enjoy the cake selection. The staff are very friendly, and the food caters towards people with dietary requirements (eg. gluten free, vegan) so I find that it's a good option if you're with a group of people that have a wide variety of dietary reqs.

This is the place to go for amazing vegan ice cream, loads of delicious flavours plus vegan waffles and gluten free options as well. Staff were friendly and helpful and the venue is large and inviting! My new favourite ice cream shop!!
Black Waffle’s gelato menu is relatively modest, with around a dozen flavours, including both dairy and non-dairy (vegan) options, changing every couple of months.
Of course we could not pass up the signature black waffle cone. Crisp and inky black, the colour is due to activated charcoal.
Our vote for Black Waffle’s star flavour goes to the citrus ricotta gelato. The hazelnut gelato (studded with whole hazelnuts) and the vegan dark chocolate are also excellent.
With friendly and efficient service, and charming rustic décor, it is a great spot to catch up with friends. The waffles look amazing, and are generously sized – definitely something to try on our next visit.

Came in here and tried the citrus ricotta waffles and was thorouhgly impressed with the flavours, balanced and not too sweet,. Its not something that stands out at you when you look at the menu but its a hidden gem
Love love love this place! They are delicious and everything you could want from a ‘cheat meal’. Definitely a place to try and I know I have already returned back here 3 times since first visiting!!!
Amazing flavors, even though there are only a dozen, it doesn't make the choice easier. The ricotta citrus is amazing, especially for the summer flavor.

I've been here a couple of times and service has always been prompt, super friendly and the waffles always consistently good. I've ordered the wonderland and hazelnut heaven waffles, and each time changed the gelato to the dark choc one as I am lactose intolerant. The gelato is superb - even better than the waffles! Presentation is always on point, waffles are fluffy and the toppings all compliment each other so well. Super generous servings too! Always a place I make sure to end my night at if I'm venturing to high street for dinner!

Been here a couple of times but by far the updated menu is a winner! Loved the lemon waffles, not overly sweet and sickening which lemon desserts can sometimes be. Hoping that with further additions to the menu that the prices don’t continue to rise like I have noticed..
Super creamy icecream. The milo flavour was literally like eating out of the tin which was heaven. Would’ve liked to have seen a few more flavours however.
They have such good vegan ice cream! I’m not vegan but I died and went to heaven after tasting their Caramel Crunch flavour. A must try. I look forward to trying their waffles soon.

If you come here the one thing you need to try is the VEGAN hazelnut icecream... you’ll be scratching your head trying to work out how it’s vegan but still manages to taste better than most dairy icecreams! Other non-vegan flavours are incredible too. 👌🏼

Lovely gelato and dessert bar. A wide selection of desserts that all look delicious. The gelato had gluten free listed under the flavours which was a great addition. Would definitely come back, and very soon!
We went on International Waffle day which surprised me that they didn't have any type of specials or even celebrated it. Just walking into the place you were hit with that lovely freshly pressed waffle smell along with the smell of freshly ground coffee. The service staff was attentive and our coffees came out quick. The waffles were great!! I had the hazelnut heaven and my partner had the pecan and bananas. The food was gorgeous in appearance and tasted equally delicious. It was a symphony of flavours and textures using hot and cold, crunchy and soft, sweet and salty. It was contrasting yet worked well together. My partner loved the banana and pecan but thought it was a bit too sweet. It perhaps need something to break up the sweetness. Overall good food! I would recommend to anyone.

Came here instead of waiting 30 minutes for a table at tinker and it was worth it, service was so quick and food well presented. The tropical bowl was delicious and would be perfect to eat in summer, i also tried my friends waffle and it was amazing. we loved it and will probably be back here soon
Yum yum yum!!! Had the waffles twice here and I'm addicted. Tried the hazelnut/strawberry ones and the apple pie, loved both. Portion size is perfect, they look small when they come out but they are so filling, that I can't finish them. Love that it's open late on a weekend, good to come for dessert after a local dinner.
I've been meaning to try this place for ages and finally went yesterday. I ordered the vegan hazelnut waffles and was pleasantly surprised. The Nutella was swapped for a custard tasting substance which was delicious! A generous serving of 2 waffles definitely filled me up. Delicious sweets!!

Beautiful place for vegan and gluent free ice cream selection. Went with hazelnut and charcoal vanilla which was superb. Their selection of other desserts and cakes is quite a variety too. Staff are friendly and it's in a vibey area.
If you haven't gone here, you need to! Amazing flavours and choices. Being lactose intolerant I haven't had much choice of Ice cream. But at Black Waffle I have the choice of amazing flavours I haven't had in a long time. I even got my birthday cake here.

Go here for the ice cream and not for the atmosphere. The ice cream is good but inside the acoustics seem to amplify conversation and make the place seem quite loud even when it isn't that busy. Multiple gluten free and vegan options.
An amazing place to visit with family and loved ones. The ice cream was perfect so does the waffle - Wonderland. Coated with chocolate syrup and strawberries. The plate was decorated with edible flowers, marshmallows, sprinkles, and powder sugar.
The warm waffle was perfect with the vanilla ice cream.
This mouth-watering dessert was only $14 and it is worth the price.
The restaurant was exceptionally clean. The only problem was that the place was under staff. They have an amazing number of clients rushing to the store so if they could increase the staff, they could get more clients and able to serve better.
Overall, I recommend this place for anyone who is craving for a sweet dessert.
Ooh yum, I love ice cream .. especially different flavours. Black Waffle surely offers that. Charcoal Vanilla that's black .. yup, black! A black waffle cone (hence the shop name). There is caramel and macadamia nut ice cream, citrus ricotta flavour and lemon orange ginger flavour and of course bubblegum!
Lovely little cafe because they not only sell ice cream; cakes, pancakes and coffee are also on the menu. Fabulous place for after dinner desserts!
