Review Tempo Pizza Bar Gelato - Northcote

Onnida Thammapratheep
Pizza šŸ• was good, a little oily in the middle but we did put extra chili oil too though. I like the burnt on pizza crust. Bruschetta was good, a little different with the pizza base than bread. Calamari was battered well but a little bit salty. Pear salad tasted a little wierd with cheese on top. Penne Calabrese was average, I can taste tomato sauce but that was it. I feel like there was no depth in flavor. Not bad though, just not wow. Atmosphere was nice. Tiramizu, as we were told that it's home-made from mum, was great and yummy. We enjoyed it. Staffs were very friendly and attentive. We would have tried gelato if it wasn't so cold šŸ„¶ Check them out if you're in the area or even not in the area.

Tried all the pizzas in the area and this is our new favourite. The right balance of everything that makes a good pizza!

The pizza is great. I love the toppings and the pizza base is the best. Sometimes they let the crust burn a bit too much but this is just a heads up not a complaint. Just ignore people complaining about the toppings not distributed respecting a Gaussian distribution, be happy order a pizza there and enjoy a nice talk with the staff. Iā€™m a local, and their pizza is the best for my taste.

We stumbled into Tempo Pizza on a cold Sunday night looking for refuge from the weather and something to warm our bellies. We were greeted by a lovey lady who was very accommodating and seated us promptly. The decor was a 90ā€™s nostalgia throw back with dim lighting. Nevertheless the menu lit up with an array of options including vegan and gluten free options. Sadly while waiting for our food we saw a friendly cockroach who was meandering along the cold tile floor. We notified the staff who swiftly stomped on it without any remorse. The long line of Uber deliveries drivers waiting in store noticed this and tried not to flinch in fear they might be next. The food came and was presented wonderfully but unfortunate the toppings were few and far between. The crust was amazing and the taste of wood fire was amazing. Unfortunately the lack of hygiene, pizza toppings and long line of Uber delivery drivers forced me to rate this high potential Pizza bar a 2/5

I've dined in and done takeaways. The Eggplant parma pizza was very underwhelming. The base of the pizza was drenched in oil. I have many other amazing pizzas from tempo but this time its really disappointing. I've added basil to lift some flavour but still I didnt know what I was eating.

One of the very few Italian restaurants in Melbourne that offer Atmosphere and Taste most authentic to Italian Standards. Itā€™s my favourite restaurant in town and while all dishes are a beautiful culinary experience, the Mushroom Risotto is the one that won my Heart. Friendly faces & great Food - what could one possibly want more . Highly recommend!

My friend and I eat here once a week. We keep meaning to eat at other places but we're obsessed and always end up back here. Great value, authentic Italian food without trying to be pretentious. Open late. We always feel warmly welcomed here and it's never a long wait for food (unless the place is packed, but even then, it's reasonable).

Great service and great food. Loved the Tempo cocktail. Pizza and pasta was delicious

We've had Tempo a few times, usually without any issues around food safety, though we have waited over 1.5 hours for takeaway to be delivered from Tempo on 3 separate occasions. This time around unfortunately one of the pizzas arrived with or meat that was spoiler and off. Unfortunately I had already eaten a slice before realising the meat was off and hence was sick during the night. Upon smelling and inspecting the meat more closely my partner agreed it was putrid and off, it smelt vile. We called the restaurant to let them know and were put onto the chef who repeatedly told my partner that their prosciutto was fine and that was how it is meant to taste. He flat out denied the meat being off despite me being really unwell after eating the pizza. He then gave my partner a disconnected number to call to speak to ubereats and hung up on us. We will NEVER be eating here again. Their distain for a customer's safety around a food poisoning incident is shameful and the treatment we received was disgusting. Be careful ordering food here, they'll let you eat off food and they'll make you pay for it (with gastro and your wallet!)

Best Pizza in Melbourne!!!

Need gluten free or vegan? They have it. Wood fire oven too.Ā

Homemade Gnocchi there rules too...Oh yeah, they have home made Gelato too. Awesome all round! Worth checking out for sure...and returning :-)

Have been here 5-6 times so far. The food is consistently delicious. The staff are also helpful and friendly, with a relaxed family owned vibe. And the gorgonzola gnocchi is to die for. Highly recommended.

I've frequented many a pizza place in Melbourne and this is the one I keep coming back to. Not a fan of thin crusts; Tempo's are perfecto! More importantly, the saltiness is dialled down. I've found some of the pizzas from famous pizza joints almost inedibly salty, but never the ones at Tempo! Wait times are long, but so worth it. Also tried the gnocchi which comes in a beautiful, velvety smooth sauce. Wish they delivered to my suburb!

It is almost embarrassing how many times I have had Tempoā€™s margherita (+ four jam doughnuts) delivered to my door. If it werenā€™t for the fact they make the best damn pizza Iā€™ve had in Australia Iā€™d feel guilt, but really I wear my gluttony with pride.

I am the biggest pizza snob. The BIGGEST. So much so that Iā€™ve taken to making my own at home because literally nowhere gets it right. And then I met Tempo.

Their base is PERFECTO (Iā€™ve literally ordered pizzas before so I could take notes on the base for replication. I have not achieved tempo perfection yet). Amazing crumb, delish gluten development, and cooked just right. Iā€™m a #basicbitch and go for the marg every time and my only complaint is that the basil is cooked with the pizza (instead of thrown on fresh at the end). SO GOOD!

Honestly the Best pizza Iā€™ve ever had!! Beautiful food and the people even more so. I highly recommend, will definitely be back for more....

A hideous experience.
Last night I went to Tempo with two friends for dinner and it was possibly one of the most disappointing dining experiences of my life. My two friends ordered pizzas and I ordered the pasta special of the day. One friend was delivered her pizza minutes after ordering only to be told it was a mistake, so my other friend and I had to wait for our meals whilst she ate. 30 minutes had passed and we still had not received our food so I called over the waiter to ask and he assured me that we would only be waiting ā€œanother 2 minutesā€ - which turned out to be 20 minutes. Our meals were delivered with no apology for the 50 minute wait. Truth be told, my friends pizzas actually tasted quite nice, they had no real complaints. The issue was with the pasta. It was inedible. I made both my friends to try it to see if they thought the same and they did. It was overly sweet, like not a little bit sweet...like it had half a cup of sugar in it.
The waitress came around to collect our plates and asked me why I didnā€™t eat mine and I politely said it didnā€™t taste very nice and that I wasnā€™t able to eat it. She then said ā€œyou shouldā€™ve told me earlier, I wouldā€™ve made you another oneā€ ... well, I wouldā€™ve told you earlier if you came around to my table to check how the meal was instead of making me wait 50 minutes for it and then came back to collect my plate 20 minutes after that.
All in all, I wanted my pasta taken off the bill. It was actually so gross.
When I went up to pay, she made a big deal about taking money off the bill and apologised...but she took 7 dollars off the entire bill. 7 dollars...when the pasta was 25 dollars. Thatā€™s just insulting.
Iā€™m not the type of person who goes around complaining at restaurants and leaves reviews. I specifically made this Zomato account to post this.
Tempo is a disgrace.
Also, this happened on cup day and Iā€™m fairly sure it was maybe the owners son and his friends came in super trashed and were harassing us at our table making my female friend very uncomfortable. They were not only drunk but also appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Not a good look.

Fantastic place for a meal. Service was outstanding... personal, friendly and extremely accomodating to dietary needs. Food was great, ambience could've been a little nicer but overall an excellent experience ā€“ will be back for sure.

Thought Iā€™d try a fave, Procuiitto Rocket pizza from a different place, via UberEats.
Prompt delivery, great size. Quality ingredients. I just prefer a crisper crust, no so ā€œbreadyā€

Ooooft this place was really good! I cannot stop thinking about the Gamberetti (prawn, garlic, chilli) pizza, it was that good. We also ordered the focaccia bread which was a little too much, it would have been nicer if there was dip on the side as it become too dry when you have a lot.
The second time I was here, we had the gnocchi was really nice and creamy and the 4 cheese pizza. Dayum the pizza was good, however couldnā€™t eat too much of it because it started to get really heavy with all the cheeses.
Service was really great, we had the same waiter both times who was super friendly and joked around with us. Prices was also very reasonable for the quality you gets. Will definitely be back more often!

Amazing pizza. Ordered thru UberEATS over the weekend at around 1:30- 2am I was pleasantly surprised that late night pizza could be so DELICIOUS!!!! Easily the best pizza in the North!!!! Hands down, new local!!!! Thanks Tempo!
Julian
Very flavourful toppings, A-grade vegan cheese, the dough is a little soft but great texture, I recommend this place! Itā€™s hard to find good Vegan pizza surprisingly.. but this place gets it right!

Tempo has some of the best food in Melbourne, I always find myself coming back for their amazing pizza and pasta. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is in the area or who hasn't tried it, you wont be disappointed. It is also very convenient with late night opening hours. 5/5!

Not only does this place deliver till 3am on the weekends but they have some of the best selections of pizza and gelato.Ā
Friendly owner operators who look after their customers.
Must try: Parmigiana pizza - Tiramisu Gelato

We shared a pasta and pizza. The gnocchi on the specials board was amazing! The pizza was average. Apparently the main chef wasnt making the pizza's that day.

Absolutely delicious pizza. Highly recommend the prosciutto pizza. Ambiance was ok, depends where youā€™re sitting in the restaurant. Very friendly staff šŸ˜Š

One of my favourite places for pizza. The restaurant atmosphere is very friendly and it's well-located on High Street in Northcote. The pizza is delicious - in particular, the pizza crust and base here is amazing! Prices are very reasonable.

Nice local restaurant! Took a while for staff to take our order but when they did they were super friendly and food came out really quick!
Delicious pizza and that salad.. WOW!! Best Iā€™ve ever had
Laura
Tempo is the best! My favourite restaurant in Melbourne. Their gluten free crust is the best Iā€™ve ever tasted, fluffy, crispy, yeasty and the toppings are super delicious. I Love the mushroom one with peas.

I find the ambience lovely. It feels like a family run Italian restaurant. Decor is charming. Staff are attentive, friendly and kind.

Itā€™s a charming, non pretentious place with exquisite food.

My partner and I decided to have a nice relaxing new years this year so we headed to tempo for a casual dinner for two. From the time we sat down it took 30 minutes to get water for the table, 40 minutes to get two glasses of wine (of which we were old at the 35 minute mark they didn't have the red wine my partner ordered, which when there is only two to pick from only left him with one option) then took a whopping 1 and a half hours to get our two pizza's!!!! They had mentioned how busy they were and short staffed, however there didn't appear to be many people in the restaurant at all, with some tables full of dirty plates and glasses from customes that had left 45-60 minutes prior. There were a lot of people coming and going to pick up take away so they must have put the importance on that instead of the actual people dining in the restaurant. We later found out that our order was lost, this was after I went inside to find out what was taking so long, when the chef yelled at me "I LOST THE ORDER ALRIGHT , DO YOU STILL WANT THE PIZZA'S OR NOT?" At that point we were pretty annoyed and were about to walk out, however we were starving and it was nearly 10 o'clock on NYE so we wouldn't have had much luck getting anything decent to eat so we stayed and waited for the pizza. The pizza's themselves were very tasty and we enjoyed them, but from our experience we would never return. If I could offer a suggestion from my experience working in hospitality, if you know the kitchen is backed up and can't cope with the orders, make sure the drinks come out straight away, you could also perhaps bring out some bread or olives or something to tide customer's by. Also the fact that no-one noticed we had been seated for 1 and a half hours on a bare table with no plates or food shows a complete lack of attention and in such a small restaurant i don't even know how that's possible.

I assume this must have been a very very "off" night as most of the other reviews on here are great, I'm just disappointed we had to experience it.

What a little diamond in the rough! This was the first pizza restaurant my assistant Georgia chose and we were both quite nervous. As we walked in we were both apprehensive as it looked a bit run down and like a general take away pizza joint however we thought weā€™d give it the benefit of the doubt. We ordered a spinach ricotta calzone, mecuzzi, tempo pizza and it did not let us down. With the 90 second VPN approved method, the dough was soft and chewy the way I like it with the right amount of toppings and a generous burst of flavour. Only negative was the thickness of the dough got a little dense when I was about 8 slices in! Still didnā€™t stop me from finishing all 3 bad boys. Special shout out to the nonno out the back prepping the meatballs. A nice Italian touch to the family owned restaurant.

Unbelievable pizza, incredible soft dough with the most amazing sauce. I highly recommend the margarita as they have brought back the authentic flavours of Italy. Vegan friendly

Just had the tempo pizza. Exceedigly good. I cant find anything I would change except maybe slightly thinner crust but all in all a highly competitive pizza. Delicious.

Went to tempo on a Tuesday night. It was after 9pm and most restaurants were already closed. Lucky this was open, which is a plus! We ordered two pizza. The dough was really really nice, super fluffy and light. I though the tomato sauce was just a bit too sweet for my liking. Staff was friendly. The restaurant itself is really simple.

Absolutely delightful! Pizza is A-Grade on an international scale and the gelato is in that same realm of quality. Easily one of the best restaurants in the High St grip (By far the best pizzeria!)

Stopped in to try the vegan pizza. It was great, the pizza dough was amazing and everything tasted very fresh. The service was excellent. Will definitely be back to try more.

Very very small pizza for extortionate price. Ordered from uber eats and had to wait a full hour (through no fault of the uber driver who was very helpful and kind). Would not recommend to ANYONE. ps the gluten free base is very very small for what is charged
Lulu
Awesome vegan pizza and gelato! Service was lovely and loved that they were open at such a late time! I will definitely go back as their pizza is too die for!

As everyone else has said, the food is simply sublime. We had gnocchi, risotto, and oven/fired bread, all with amazing flavours and perfect delicate textures? I plan on coming back as often as I can afford it. The young dapper waiter is charming and passionate about the family run business.

We came here to this newly opened eatery TEMPO for the first time tonight and we could not ask for a more fantastic dining experience. The decor was well designed, the wood fired oven being the center of attention. The bar was well stocked and the waiters were utmost attentive. We ordered the pan fried calamari, the arancini and the mixed salad for our entree, all were so well presented and cooked to perfection. For our mains we ordered gnocchi parmigiana which was on the specials board, gnocchi Gorgonzola and gnocchi Napoletana, we all agreed that these gnocchi were the lightest, softest and tastiest we have ever eaten. And we have eaten plenty of gnocchi in our time. We then shared some wood fired pizza, again cooked to absolute perfection and so so tasty. We had the margarita, the prosciutto, the Calabrese. By the time the 6 of us devoured all this delicious food, we were all so full that we couldn't even consider desert, however we couldn't resist the homemade ice creams. The ice cream display cabinet is definitely one of its kind with turntable continuously displaying the different flavors. We decided to mix and match a few different flavors. OMG the serves were huge. We will be back again very soon. Congratulations on the opening of this little gem in Northcote. Get in and enjoy the Tempo experience. 5 stars *****

The pizza bases here are amazing - crusts that are the perfect balance between chewy and crispy.Ā TheĀ Margherita pizzaĀ & TempoĀ pizza are best try for long time .

Visited Tempo on Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised with the service and fit out. At the front they have a fantastic gelato bar that rotates (yep!) and at the back you can see through to the Nonna out the back making pasta. We tried the tempo pizza which was delicious - although messy with the toppings falling off. We also had the garlic pizza which showed off the beautiful pizza dough. The four cheese pizza wasn't a crowd pleaser as the salad on top made it for an acquired taste. All in all, we will back to try more and the gelato!

I took my family to this new restaurant on High St last Saturday. What a lovely surprise Tempo was! The staff and the food were amazing. My children devoured the calamari entree and we all enjoyed the flavoursome pizzas and then finished with Gelato and coffees. Thank you Tempo - what a most wonderful family restaurant you have created.

I went into Tempo last night not knowing what i wanted or what i felt like. The waiter came around and was so lovely, he gave me a run down of all the pizzas and all the drinks that Tempo had to offer! he even told me where the wine came from to how the pizzas were made and where the ingredients are purchased from which was really great šŸ˜„šŸ˜„
I ended up going for the Tempo pizza (Which was amazing) with a waiter selected wine.
Reasonable price for a fantastic meal and great vibes.10/10
