Tasty hearty brunch/ lunch in a cosy, friendly setting. Super tasty dishes and yummy drinks. Had a vegetarian Mexican inspired bagel that was to die for!
4.2. Loved it here. Food was great. The service wonderful. The tuna melt was a beauty. The quesadillas outstanding as well. The coffee was spectacularly good. And, to top it all off, we loved our server. So lovely and friendly and terrific at their job. Not much else you can say. Sookie La La is a terrific place. Highly recommended.
Sookie La La really nails the retro diner vibe. Bottomless filter coffee. Freshly baked pies on the counter. The kind of breakfast that David Lynch might order (waffles with maple syrup and bacon; a hamburger and a milkshake). Of course, it all has a modern twist - there’s loads of vegetarian and vegan options. I tried the Sloppy Josie, a winning mix of braised lentils, pickles, melted cheese and crispy onions, served on a toasted roll with a side of slaw. It was absolutely delicious. The coffee was excellent and the staff are very friendly. It’s a good vibe.
This is homely food at its best. It’s a quaint little diner. With super helpful staff. A must try is their milkshakes....the best. They have homemade pies which are gorgeous and their savoury food is divine to.
Pros: portions are quite generous. The egg and bacon burger had at least 3-4 eggs in it I'd say. Pulled beef baguette had a generous serving. Rosemary tots are great! Definitely recommend! It was very crunchy with just that hint of rosemary. Milkshake (specifically the snickers flavour) was so good! You could taste the snicker pieces and instead of whipped cream you get from those spray bottles, it was actually fresh whipped heavy cream which I enjoyed. Service was exceptional, the staff are very friendly.
Cons: sad the menu changed and that there's no more philly cheesesteak. The pulled beef baguette that's similar to it was a bit under-seasoned.

Mr Whatever Floats Your Bloat is notoriously hard to lure out of the house when it’s not for a halal snack pack or Red Rooster chips, but I managed to entice him with the prospect of a milkshake at Sookie La La, an American style-diner in Northcote I’d been meaning to try for a while.
KATE IS THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE!!! Give that woman a raise. My first two experiences here were honestly ordinary service wise (food always incred) but Kate is a game changer. Funny, personal and kind. Gives hospo a good name.
I love how these guys take care of your caffeine fix, no matter your style. Def a fave. Huevos Rancheros are to die for, as are many of their menu selections. Value for $. Staff are friendly too! Skip the hipster cafes and try some delicious home made diner food. Sometimes a wait but always worth it.

Sweet staff, sweet treats and strong coffee. Love the decor and diner aesthetic. It is actually the nicest diner I’ve ever been to before as the ones in North America I went to make me love that I’m at home in Melbourne when I see a place like this. Doing it right. Good quality and attitude. Ahh and cream with a long black or a drip coffee THANK YOU.
Loved this place. We went with our three young children and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The cafe has a mixture of booths and tables. We ordered the Reuben, philly cheese steak, waffle with fried chicken, the buffalo chicken burger and fries. The chicken burger was the highlight - best I’ve had in Australia! Definitely worth a visit if you are hankering for some northern American food.
The best cafe/diner in Melbourne!
From the bottomless filtered coffee to the fresh donuts and home-made cakes to the Rueben's and cheeseburgers - everything here is not only made with heart and soul but is incredibly tasty!
The owner is the most loveliest person and an amazing baker.
Service and staff are always on point.
Must try: Their baked treats - the filtered coffee - the burgers - chicken and waffles - Reuben
Sookie La La is deserving of a higher rating than what I am able to give. The customer service my partner and I received was fantastic - very friendly and attentive staff. The coffee is brilliant. You receive generous portions of flavoursome food - the cherry pie is a must try. The menu is simple and well thought out and offers something for everybody. Stellar food that speaks for itself that doesn’t break the bank. Make sure you bring your appetite!
Great food and super friendly staff! There was a bit of a wait for a table but the staff made sure we were looked after. Recommend the chai latte, Reuben sandwich and chicken and waffles. I’ll definitely be returning!
Value for money? Tick. Good coffee? Tick. Excellent range? Double tick.
I went here severely caffeine-deprived and was well taken care of by the lovely staff. They made sure I had my coffee first, and didn't judge when enjoyed the burger so much I almost forgot to breathe while eating it.The food is really that good.
Unfortunately because the serving sizes are large, and I accidentally over-ordered, I never got around to their kind-of-famous pies. An American-themed diner that serves pumpkin and cherry pie is instantly in my good books, and this place certainly warrants a return visit. Their bottomless coffee deal is great if you love your coffee black and/or americano style. I appreciated that it was well-made, but prefer my flat whites more than anything. I enjoyed their house blend - not bitter and a good size for what you pay.
The ambience in this diner was also great - friendly staff, casual setting, and nice flowers on the table to boot. Definitely a great place to hang out with friends or family, and return every other weekend when you have the chance.
Had the ‘Philly cheese steak’, southern fried chicken tenders and a cappuccino. The cappuccino was served in a larger than average cup and had a good froth to milk ratio. There was also a generous dose of chocolate powder dusted on top, nice and chocolaty but it had sort of overtaken the coffee flavour at times.
The ‘Philly cheese steak’ was served in a baguette which had thinly sliced rump steak, braised peppers and onions, mozzarella cheese and honey mayo. The baguette tasted fresh with a very crusty exterior and the bread inside was slightly dense which was good for absorbing all the sauce from the fillings. The rump steak was beefy and had a pleasant chewy tenderness to it; savoury and yet sweet from the braised peppers and onions which was soft and juicy. The melted mozzarella cheese was gooey and tasty, wished there was more of it and the honey mayo along with the peppers and onions added a sweet element to the Philly cheese steak.
The southern fried chicken tenders came with three large boneless strips served in a mini wok looking bowl. The chicken tenders were slightly crunchy outside where the batter was thicker around the edges and the chicken itself was tender and meaty. It was nicely seasoned with herbs and spices and was flavour packed throughout the chicken; savoury and surprisingly quite hot and spicy. Really appreciate how they did not tone down the heat.
Overall it was a satisfying meal; coffee was decent and the chicken tenders were well seasoned and flavourful; savoury and spicy. The Philly cheese steak was tasty as well but would have preferred it to be more savoury and cheesy.
Best coffee, best service , friendly happy staff , great location , best cakes ....glad we live around the corner . Great location and great hamburgers too
Insane. Heard nothing but good things about here so I decided to try it out. Bring your appetite. You get a decent sized portion with great value for $.
The ambience is a real American style feel that you would find in an American town.
I tried the black bean bagel and it was absolutely incredible. A vegetarian burrito on a bagel, basically. Black bean/tomato with guacamole was the perfect combination atop a fresh bagel, along with cream cheese and jalapeños on the other half. A supremely satisfying, tasty dish that I’m already craving again.
Ordered a side of French fries which had the best paprika salt on top. Can’t wait to return. I won’t eat breakfast next time in anticipation as I needed my entire appetite. Big thumbs up.
This may not be your first choice for breakfast, looking like a diner for shakes and burgers. But if you’re a meat eater and enjoy a hearty meal for breakfast - get here to try the fried chicken waffles with bacon. Sure cure for a hangover and absolutely bursting with flavour. Chilled environment with friendly staff.
Popped in here for breakfast one morning. Food is great, coffee is great, atmosphere is low key. All around a top place to have a quick feed.
Coming to Sookie La La instead of the food trucks wasn't such a bad idea. Felt a bit underwhelmed with the choices at Welcome to Thornbury and decided to try out a cafe instead.
The cafe might seem a bit dark and dingy but service was generally friendly. The chai latte had an interesting touch with honey as a sweetener and a spicy kick towards the last few drops. The potato and rosemary hash cakes were quite delicious although I couldn't really quite taste the cheese in it. Their cherry pie was massive and oozing with cherries. Not bad but just a little sweet.
Authentic!!!!
Sookie La La is probably the best cafe in the area, decor reminds you of a classic American diner, food is always on point (presentation and taste) and coffee is always good. A must dish is the cheeseburger, thumbs up to them
We love this place! It's steep to get in but we manage to get our electric wheel chair in fine with a small push. Definitely if you're by yourself I'd recommend getting a hand in but the inside is accessible. No accessible toilets though.
Mostly booths inside but manageable. I'd recommend 1-2 chairs maximum with a small group
I'm a regular at Sookie La La which means I've had majority of the dishes from their menu and nothing, and I mean NOTHING, has disappointed me. I absolutely love everything off their menu and their specials are always spot on! I do miss their fish burger though (specials item), and I'm hoping for them to bring it back soon because it was heavenly. Coffee is spectacular and staff are absolutely friendly. Absolutely love this place
A fantastic new spot for brunch, a fusion between cafe and American diner.
Good coffee, great chai, peanut hot chocolate was great in flavour but could have been warmer.
Large portions especially when it came to the waffles with southern fried chicken and bacon, amazing!
Filly sandwich was also fantastic, full of flavour!
I saw the name on a random tweet and had to try this place out because of the epic name! I must say I felt welcome even though I have a different political leaning. The atmosphere is very welcoming and inclusive. The food was excellent 5/5; friendliness 5/5; value for money 4/5; Atmosphere 5/5; not a place you would eat every day; no wifi pushed it back to 4.5/5
Me & some family went here for brunch my brother had the feely cheese stake sandwich and absolutely loved it so much, he ordered another one. He said and I quote. I will be returning HUNGRY for more!!😋😋😋 my sister in law had the cheese burger which was a 4/5. The staff were very helpful and attentive. When we went the ambience was cold like a old country town church but to there defence it was Wednesday 10:30 so I guess the lunch rush hadn't arrived yet. Still, it's highly recommended for any melbourne food lover🙂🙂🙂🙂
Dined at Sookie La La for lunch on a Sunday. I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken burger with fries on the side with a skinny latte. My burger was really tasty! One of the best chicken burgers I've had in quite a while. My latte was great too. It wasn't overly busy, so it was a comfortable place to spend time with my significant other. I'm not a fan of going to large establishments with loads of other patrons, so I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Sookie La La. Service was prompt.
Great food! I've eaten here 3 times - Cuban Sandwich was great, hash was tasty and I had a pork belly special last time which was awesome. Coffee was good too.
Really cute little venue with a diner style interior. The little cakes and treats are delish and I love the quiet chilled vibe there. Have to go back and try a bagel or 2.
One of the best tasting scrambled chilli eggs I've come across. The coffee was great and the service was welcoming. Be sure to check it out!
Had quite a few items off the menu (chicken and waffles, 'feely' cheesesteak sandwich, tater tots, mac & cheese, pie)
Highlights: mac & cheese, tater tots and pie.
The fried chicken was dry and bland. Waffles were fine but I prefer them a little crispier.
Staff was very friendly and attentive and the vibe is very welcoming and nice.
Would come back to try other items off the menu.
The cheeseburger and caramel slice is what keeps me coming back to Sookie La La, i have tried a lot of burgers and this is my number one favourite.
The food is fantastic and the staff are friendly and welcoming. You just feel like it's just like having a meal at a friend's house. So relaxed!
My friend who lives in Thornbury recommended the burger here. We orders the chicken burger I got the spicy one . It was pretty well made and had lots of flavour in it. The place had a Hispanic American vibe and so did the menu . The value for money is alright definitely recommended with one of their signature milkshakes on a lazy Sunday.
The lady friend and I were famished after a morning run on Christmas Day, and so after trawling High Street for an open establishment, and a debate as to whether the venue in front of us was called 'Diner' or 'Sookie La La' (determined after a quick search on Zomato ruled out the former), we popped in to see what was on offer.
Breakfast was ruled out due to the holiday, but the burger menu was still on offer. I went for the cheeseburger, while she went for the only vegetarian option in the Sloppy Josie. We had coffee to accompany.
I loved the cheeseburger to the point where I had to slow down so as not to reveal to Sonia how ravenous (and ungentlemanly) I was. It was a delicious combination of medium rare beef, and a perfect balance of cheese, pickles, mustard and ketchup, all in a presentable package that didn't require hand or mouth gymnastics to manipulate. Lightly spiced fries accompanied the burger and were also consumed quickly.
Sonia wasn't so impressed with her Sloppy Josie (nor I from across the table)... the braised lentils just weren't terribly exciting. Perhaps substitute patties would still be appropriate given the burger/sandwich theme.
Service was attentive, friendly, and timely. The coffee did the job--it's always swell when the barista can do do soy well. I'm keen to visit again.

Consistently great coffee, delicious fried chicken, tasty rustic home made sweets that are my go-to when I need a sweet treat fix. Friendly staff and the booths are good for when you want to dine out, but want to hide at the same time.
Great burgers! great service! Desserts are sinfully delicious! Its got great ambience with huge booths. Definitely making this a regular stop.
Absolutely delicious menu that changes with the seasons. I asked for a meaty sandwich to be made vegetarian and they were more than happy to accommodate! Beautiful coffee that arrived quickly after I ordered it, and topping it off with a cookie meant that I was SO STUFFED for hours. Great taste in music (Bowie was playing all arvo) and lovely vibes on an overcast day. Could not recommend more.
Best thing about this place apart from the delicious food is the genuine friendliness of the staff. So refreshing to be just treated as a regular person who shares the same city, great breakfast with poached eggs, cheesy hash brown, bacon and relish all on sourdough which had been buttered! Great friendly vibe, we'll definitely be going back to try more of the fun stuff on the menu.
My babes and I were looking for a new area to have a food adventure earlier this year when she noticed one of the YouTubers she followed having brunch at a cafe in the North East of Melbourne. Keen to try anything once, we drove out to a "diner" on High Street in Northcote called Sookie La La.
We walked in the small cafe just after 11:30 and noticed that every table was occupied except for the outside seating. Although it was a very sunny day, it was quite chilly in the shade so we notified the waitress and she was able to clear a table for us inside after some patrons left around 10 minutes later. After going through their pretty varied handwritten menu, I really liked their American style sandwiches and I knew what I wanted!
I ordered a Cuban Sandwich and a Latte for my drink and my babes ordered the Mac'n'Cheese off the breakfast menu. After a few minutes, my coffee was served, which was disappointingly bland, and about 15 minutes after that our meals were served.
I was very happy with the look of my Cuban Sandwich. The ham, roast pork and pickles covered in melted Swiss cheese and a honey mustard Mayo was spot on but the round baguette style roll was too hard to chew. I was expecting either the traditional Cuban bread, which is flatter and much softer on the inside, or a "pressed" thick white sliced bread like other places around Melbourne I've had Cubano's at. A worthy attempt but maybe use a softer bread next time.
My babes Mac'n'Cheese looked fantastic! The macaroni and bacon bits were covered in an orange tinged crust of melted cheese in a small cast iron pan. But once my babes fork cut through the cheese crust, we found the cream was too runny than what we expected and it seemed to dilute the cheesy flavour. My babes usually loves macaroni and cheese but the consistency was too off putting for her and I ended up finishing it after my sandwich.
Although our food looked really promising when it was initially served, it ended up being a bit of a disappointment than we were anticipating. Having said that, there is enough interesting variety on their menu, including the Sookie Cheese Steak, Reuben and Southern Fried Chicken sandwiches, that I'm willing to give them another go next time we're looking for a cafe to brunch around Northcote.
Delicious and atmospheric. Stylish old diner feel ( fitout, music, and all) with wonderful warm welcoming service, great coffee, and an interesting and tastee menu, ... and quality home made sweets - the pecan pie was divine. This is a quality destination, disappointed you wont be. And the # 86 tram will drop you near to the door . Cant wait to return.
This place asserts itself with it's dark wooden booths, great music and a short menu that seems to cater to all palettes. It stands out from a sea of plywood cafes and bearded waiting staff that seem to be popping up these days. Try the Rueben or Sloppy Joe, they don't disappoint. Bagels are chewy with interesting toppings and yummy brunch choices. The coffee is a full flavour hit.
I love Sooki Lala! It is true the service is always friendly and I love the serving size - not so big you overeat, but absolutely enough! Lucky for me I live around the corner, and I take all my visitors there if I want a cosy chat. Thanks to the boss and the team! (A bit ambivalent about posting this because I don't want it to get so popular I can't get a seat!)
I love this place! Always great food and friendly service. Coffee is great, but the sundaes are to die for! Perfect spot for breakfast or an afternoon coffee and sweet treat. Often grab something delicious for afternoon tea!
Sookie la la is the perfect little cafe in northcote if you're after good food and impeccable service.
The food was beyond delicious and there wasn't a lack of choices from the menu.
Coffee and pricing was also perfect!
Will be back!
I came in for a little pick me up on a cold and rainy day and had the Banoffee Pie. It was out of this world delicious. Staff seemed lovely too. Would definitely come back.
Have been here twice now in the last two weeks. The staff are all lovely and have been highly accommodating for my GF friend. I ordered the pierogi the first time and when it came out it looked small (I'm a big breakfast kinda girl), but it packed a punch and left me extremely satisfied. The second time I got a bagel and it was also satisfying and so filling. I would definitely go back, and I probably will.
We enjoyed a brunch here having the Hash Brekky - Kipfler Potatoes, Butternut Pumpkin, Bacon, Chorizo & Cabbage with 2 Poached Eggs, served on rye together with 2 lattes.
The staff were lovely and they see me dot pay extra attention to service. There was no waiting list on a Sat morning (massive plus given the usual wait times).
Amazing little cafe with a good selection on the menu, great vibe and very friendly and relaxed staff. We had the salmon bagel and the breakfast bun and both were delicious!
Most of the comments already listed by previous diners paint an accurate picture - this establishment attempts to pull off the classic American diner feel and to their credit they succeed. Inside is spacious and the atmosphere is relaxing - their limited seating options contributes to this. On the other hand (catch 22), if you come here during a busy period there's a good chance you'll miss out on a table, again, due to their limited seating options. The coffee is quite nice, perhaps a little weak, but definitely still good. Their menu echoes their push for an American vibe, featuring a number of dishes that you'd find in your typical Chicago-based diner. Of course, being the boring, uninspiring individual I am, I ordered poached eggs on toast, with guacamole and relish. Despite the variety of options on their menu, its refreshing to know that they can still pull off the basic breakfast options; the relish in particular was a nice addition.
A type of cafe that you would find in the States. Tried the burger once and was impressed, decided to try the fried chicken last week and was equally impressed. Nice change from your normal cafes around Northcote.
Wow. Chicken and Waffles were amazing. My girlfriend had the poached egg on beef hash which also tasted delicious. The menu is so different to the usual breakfast fair which is why i rated Sookie La La top marks.
New York-Chicago comes to Northcote. Unexpectedly impressed with this place. I am a big fan of the REUBEN sandwich, and it was done very well here. The coffee was also very good; not your high-end varista version, but appropriate for the setTing. The ambience is relaxing with a touch of neo-noir for the fans. Highly recommended.
I got the southern fried chicken burger. The pickles, the creamy sauce and the Swiss cheese made a nice combo with the chicken. The only thing I would say is that chicken was slightly dry.
I've been here a few times now and love their menu. The cheeseburger and fries is delish! Mac and cheese for breakfast, yes please! Great service, good food and not too exxy. My only suggestion would be to pay a bit more attention to the interior. The booths are cute and keeping with the diner vibe but does feel a bit dark/dingey.
Love this place for it's coffee, milkshakes, mac and cheese, and later closing time. Tick tick tick. Friendly service on top makes this place a win for me.
It's Northcote but it feels like Chicago, old Chicago ....
Could it be because of that DINER sign outside, basic timber Booth seating and Elvis mentioned on the Special Menu board?
I don't fancy the dark interior, it feels dingy, dirty however their coffee got substance and Rustic Choc Brownie is gooey-ly good.
Very basic Interior with lots of Vintage memorabilia.
Enjoyable.
Love love love Sookie La La!! Came here with my family and we couldn't get enough of the great service and awesome menu. I had the Cuban sandwich and was really pleased, flavoursome food and generous serves!! Plenty of drink options - including coffee - and super kid friendly with all the milkshakes flavours on the menu!!! We sat outside so didn't get to properly see all the dessert options but through the window I can see that they are not lacking. Relatively good prices and great American style diner atmosphere! Can't wait to come back and try more!
This place is amazing! Great diner style food and available for breakfast! Excellent milkshake selection too. I had the fried chicken and waffles and they were delicious. Can't wait to go back and try more!
This place has an amazing vibe! The staff are super friendly and welcoming, the coffee is great and everything is really good value for money. Would 100% recommend to anyone.
I really really like this place. I find eating brekkie out usually the least exciting meal of the day but not here. Bacon mac and cheese for brekkie? Divine. Fried chicken and waffles? Be still my heart. They do many other yummy American-style things but if you want classic poached eggs, they do that too. Lovely and attentive service really brought it all home. Great job y'all!
Warm welcoming service at this easy to miss joint if not for the huge Diner sign out front. Cute homely interior that was fitted-out with wooden booths. First visit was to try the sundae. Good old fashion ice cream with the right amount of whipped cream, nuts and chocolate sauce without being too overpoweringly sweet. Was impressed enough to come back to try the savoury items - the Feely Cheesesteak and the Cuban - and was not disappointed. Only letdown is the coffee which could be stronger in flavour.
Came here to buy sandwiches for take out, low key diner with a varied menu. I bought two Cubans and took them home. They use baguettes for their Cubans which were too hard for me, but the fillings were generous and tasty. Next time I'll eat in, I want to try other items!
Your Guilty Pleasure
The Northcote cafe scene is great and only because i have been to so many places i can say it all gets a bit repetitive at times. No i don't want smashed AVO on toast. Now before you think i am being pretentious or don't even like smashed avo on toast let me just say i'm making a point--This place is a refreshing change up to every other cafe on the strip. It takes you in and you don't look back as you consume your entire days worth of allocated calories in one sitting. This place has everything going for it, from a refreshing menu that takes inspiration from a range of american inspired dishes but with a welcoming Melbournian twist.
PROS
-FOOD, FOOD AND FOOD
-Welcoming and Friendly Staff
-Atmosphere- Feels like a second home.
-Coffee is Excellent
-Laidback Funky Design/Layout (yes i used the word funky)
CONS
The ensuing food coma because you just couldn't help yourself and over ate.
In their own words, Sookie La La is a “diner style café serving sundaes, shakes, delicious Wide Open Road coffee, bagels, waffles and New York deli style sandwiches.” Sounds pretty good, huh?! This is one of those places I’ve driven past a million times, always noticed the big, simple black & white DINER sign hanging over the sidewalk, and still somehow never stopped. Until last weekend, when I decided it was finally time to get past the front window see what it was all about. I called upon one of my best friends for some girl time and delicious food, and we were not disappointed.
Can't believe I've not been here before! Came here for an early lunch with my toddler and it was perfect. They were very welcoming and the food came quickly and was delicious. Will definitely be back!
My boyfriend and I both loved this place, which is saying something in itself! I tried the Hand Pressed Corn Tortilla, which was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had the special that day - waffles with ice cream, bacon and peanut maple sauce. We were both impressed with the variety on the menu, quality of the food, fast and friendly service at a fair price! I'd definitely recommend Sookie La La, and can't wait to go back to try a milkshake!
Best service at any spot I've ever been, and its a really nice chill atmosphere. I got the cream cheese and salmon bagel and it was beautiful. Coffee was a bit on the muted side however.
Absolutely love this place!
Sookie La La consistently hit it out of the park with their food & coffee.
Great staff & friendly service only add to the ambiance of this great, little diner specialising in Southern-styled down, home comfort food.
Excellent shoe string fries. And love their pulled pork offering, but it's the Southern-style fried chicken sandwich that's been drawing me back of late.
Always leave extremely sated, the only thing more satisfying would be an open fire-place I could lay next to after my meal, whilst being on the right end of a head massage.
All killer no filler. Highly recommended.
With a small break on a Saturday morning between house-hunting, we were looking for a nice place for a quick bite - and what a great little find this was! Tasty coffee, sweet treats, and according to my husband, the best breakfast burger he's ever had, this one is definitely worth a visit. To top it off, super friendly service too!
Went again for a second visit for lunch - this time trying the Cuban Sandwich and the Cheeseburger special - once again, can't fault the food or coffee. The burger could definitely be a contender for one of Melbourne's best so we'll be back.
American diner Sookie La La has set up shop on the Thornbury/Northcote border of High Street, where the 86 tram runs virtually empty and it’s easy to find a car park. Sookie La La‘s aesthetic is pared back art deco, with wooden diner booths, high padded leather stools by the bar and two small tables fronting the unadorned glass window, making you the window dressing. Baby 2.0 and I pulled up a high chair and a chair respectively and from the front window watched the passing parade of pram-pushing mums during our lunch date.
This is a cool little spot. Great menu but I'm finding it hard to go past the potato hash.. It's gooood. Milkshake are nice too. Worthy of a regular visit
I like this place. i like its bare feeling and I love that it takes what it does seriously. i feel the love in the food. Its becoming our go to place when we feel like a big warm food hug.
The Pulled Pork Sandwich with Fries. Beautiful soft bread and a perfect combo of tender pulled pork and sweet apple slaw.
Yum. The whole 'american-style' thing is well and truly done by now, but I still really like these guys. They are very reasonably priced, especially compared to other places doing the same thing. Food is a good size, and they do great treats! (brownies, sundaes, milkshakes etc). I've had the hotcakes before, a couple of days ago I had the corn fritters, and they were super tasty. Crispy and fluffy. Really recommend if you're up Thornbury way.
Sookie La La was awesome! I have no negatives. The burger was very light and delicious I definitely recommend trying a sundae. Sookie La La is very cool and funky and is one of my favourite places to eat!
Pulled Pork please!. This place is off the chain - the owner is lovely, her staff a perfect blend of casual, professional, and friendly.
The food is AWESOME. I had the pulled pork sandwich for lunch. It was a generous size but not obscene, the brioche bun was soft and delicious! Yum.
Good coffee, too.
Went here for a late breakfast Sunday a group of four and this place didn't disappoint!! Extensive list of delicious flavoured milkshakes. The serving sizes are huge and very tasty! I enjoyed my Cuban sandwich, plenty of meat filling. My boyfriend had the French toast with maple and bacon, delcious a must try! Finished off with a banoffee Sunday which tasted super sweet and good. The booths are cozy, the staff friendly and the servings are huge. Definetly coming again :)
The Bomb. Found this little place this week, geez have I missed out. Been working across the Rd for 3 months, never saw it. Went in today, had Cuban Sandwich. To say it was amazing would be selling it short. This thing rocked, the right amounts of all ingredients, cheese ham etc, this sandwich is should be the benchmark for any joint claiming to do sandwiches
I'll be back with bells on
Pulled pork and Cuban to die for. This is the best place to get a pulled pork or Cuban sandwich in melbourne. The best part is the rest of melbourne hasn't seemed to realise this, particularly during the week. It's a cute little diner with good coffee, shakes and fries too. You will be in love!
I dare you to stop at one coffee. Crispy bacon and sweet brioche oh my oh my!. Seriously the best comfort food in Melbourne. Love love love the beans, devine coffee. Breakfast brioche is TO DIE FOR. Perfect combination of crispy, well done bacon, fresh relish, fluffy eggs and the sweetest, seedy brioche. Lovely, friendly attention. If you can't make it to NYC, just pop into this Diner. Lucky, lucky locals.
Sookie La La 593 High Street Northcote VIC 3070 Hard to find on busy High Street except by this sign: Serving up American style dishes cooked with plenty of flavour and cheese. Not great for the arteries, but pretty satisfying to eat. Place has a casual atmosphere and feels very cosy. Great place for a chat/catch up. I don't usually comment on service much but this is an exception. The servers are super attentive. Even though it was during a peak period, not only were we not rushed to finish our meal (and get out), we were offered clean glasses and a beaker of water while we were chatting away after our foods were done. Skim Latte $3.80 Was bitter at the first taste. But heaps better after adding some sugar. Nice and strong. 7/10 Skim Peanut Hot Chocolate $5 Had actual peanut bits and pieces in it and wasn't overly chocolatey so still easy to drink. Mac N Cheese $11 In a Creamy Carbonara Sauce with Bacon Super creamy, cheesy and overflowing with carbonara sauce (which I used later to dip the crusty bread from the Cuban with). Liked the centre pieces because it was slightly grilled. 7.5/10 The Cuban $13.50 Smoked Ham, Roast Pork, Swiss Cheese, Pickles and Honey Mustard Mayo Super crusty roll with generous filling of ingredients. The pickles are a good addition as they give a good contrast to the creamy and meaty portions of the roll. 7.8/10
Unassumingly brilliant. Came here early on a saturday morning before footy wanting a decent sized meal with flavour before the big game. The kiwi guy that served us was a legend & a good laugh. I had the potato, bacon & chorizo hash & added 2 extra eggs & black beans. My wife that the hand pressed tortilla. Food was excellent. service fun. heaps of flavour. I will be back with a crew for lunch & sundays thats for sure. had to resist the urge to grab a slice of pie, but it all looked excellent.
A bit in love!. I'd come here everyday if I could! Love everything on the menu, always something to try, or just get a slice of pie. Staff are so lovely and a big part of why I bring all my friends here!
Delicious. Dropped in after school with my son. Vanilla milkshake and rueben sandwich later and we were happy punters. Lovely staff and great environment. Will be back.
Great coffee. I haven't yet had the chance to eat here, but the coffee is consistently good and the service friendly. I'm looking forward to giving some of the menu items a try over Summer!
Lovely Cafe. Went there yesterday for lunch and loved it! Incredible food, prompt service and lovely, attentive staff. Highly recommend!
Phenomenal breakfast food, we had the brisket quesadilla and chicken and waffles. Food arrived so fast and it was exceptional. Service was friendly and on point and loved the bottomless filter coffee. We will be back.
Everytime I've come, everything has been amazing. The chicken and waffles (pictured with bacon) is some of the best I've ever had and the bottomless filter is delicious. If you get an opportunity to try the cherry pie you should not pass it up. Op top of this the service is phenomenal and everyone. Is super lovely
The specials board always offers something new to supplement a significant regular menu.
I haven't been disappointed yet, always good food and coffee, with chilled out and friendly staff.
I always recommend their southern fried chicken, especially for breakfast.
When you're craving chicken and waffles or a Reuben sandwich and tater tots this is the place to go. They've got a wall full of hot sauce (yes they have Franks) to put on those chicken tenders. Make sure you leave room to be upsold on getting some delish deserts because honestly there's no way you're saying no to a piece of lemon meringue pie. Just accept that you'll be getting desert and ensure you have nothing planned afterwards so you can sit and enjoy your happy little food coma.
Absolutely love this place. Very old school. Hand written menus, lots of sweet treats, delicious food, massive array of hot sauces. Decor was definitely a less is more. Not a modern, fancy place. Perfect for those that want to almost take a step back in time.
Owner was absolutely wonderful! Very kind, lovely vibe and a very cute back story. Will be back for sure!
This is my absolute favourite brunch spot. Super friendly service, delish food, exciting specials and the best pies!!!
The chicken burger is awesome, make sure you get the Buffalo butter.
Vietnamese iced coffee was pretty good too.
Staff were really friendly and service was fast.
