A beautifully presented restaurant with great food. Warm, a little spicy, and delicious. Loved the Felafries. We shared the main dishes which were all delicious.
Delicious food, great decor and lovely service. We shared dips and a Halloumi salad, and two mains between 4 people, which was perfect. Recommended.
Blown away by the fantastic service, food, and decor. the attention to detail between the outstanding looking bar and furnishing to the excellent ingredients cooked perfectly. Definitely happy to find this local gem. Cannot wait to go back!
Pharoah is one of those hidden gems that you have driven past before but probably never stopped at, nor seen written up or reviewed much. However once you get inside you are transported to a new world. It has been recently renovated and it looks amazing. The design, finishes and fit out is clean and modern while paying hommage to its egyptian heritage.
There are hardly any egyptian restaurants around but this was amazing. The experience, the food, the wine list it had all been done well, it was great value for money.
I later found out everything was made in house from the cous cous, signature black sesame to the falafal. It transported me back to when i had visisted egypt.
Truely an amazing experience!
Food is amazing! The owner is so passionate about his food and there’s a story behind all of it! Some delicious versions of his Egyptian mother’s recipes.
We had the vegetarian banquet. The felafries (felafel chips) are to die for.
All banquets can be made gluten free an A+ in my book! they do Vegan banquets also.
Will definitely be back!
It’s been a while since I had a five-bloat meal that I’ve documented on this blog – the last one was at Tora Dumplings in July last year – so strap yourselves in for a delicious yet painful journey through the annals of new Egyptian place Pharaoh’s offerings. Near as it is, I rarely venture to High Street, Northcote unless it’s to grab a lazy weeknight meal of salt and pepper tofu at the perennially packed Lâm Lâm. It’s a shame I don’t as High Street has gem upon gem – from pizzeria Pizza Meine Liebe and Israeli street food spot Tahina to Ethiopian restaurant Mesob and old school Italian joint Bar Nonno.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing. We had the individualised menu, Lamb bel Roz and Chicken Tajine. Absolutely amazing flavour, and the portion size was jut enough.
Khaled spoke to us about the history of the flavours of his food. Very friendly and made sure that we had everything we needed. He takes the time to speak to people and ensure everyone is happy. We will definitely come back again and have the full set menu, the flavours are to die for.
Worth a visit. Great decor, great food and drinks. Lovely staff. The only slight problem was that it was a warm day and the restaurant was a little bit stuffy but they had the front doors open so there was a nice breeze.
What a delicious feast we had! Not at all what I expected but it surpassed all expectations. We had the meat sharing menu which was delicious and filling and for only $40! Wow! The pita breads were piping hot and tasted just like they do in Egypt. Interesting little felafries which the best tahini I’ve ever eaten. The baba ganouj was fantastic and this was all just to start! The mains were like nothing I’ve tasted before. A perfect balance of flavours clearly made by someone who loves what he is doing. The kofte dish was amazing. What a flavour. I would have loved a little taste of dessert but what we had was great. Good, well priced wine list, gorgeous decor. Couldn’t fault it! The person who gave a score of 1 was clearly having a grumpy day as this place is a must try!
We recently decided to try this newcomer to Northcote. The menu on offer was a set menu where you could choose meat, vegetarian or vegan - I presume this was done while they are finding their feet, which I think is an extremely sensible decision for a new restaurant. We had the vegetarian option and it was absolutely delicious. Favourites were probably the falafel 'fries' with tahini and the selection of dips with warm, fresh flat bread. Atmosphere was lovely and staff very friendly and professional. Look forward to coming back when the full menu is on offer and trying some more things.
Great time!
We have for the first time tested an Egyptian restaurant a real delight !
We were really glad because the food has been delicious and the place is so beautiful. Moreover there is a very nice wine list and delicious cocktail, the staff were very friendly and professional! A restaurant that I recommend on Melbourne the prices are adapted to the quality of the meal proposed by the chef.
We will come back soon...
Thanks.
I’m don’t normally order vegetarian but due to arriving towards the end of the night the meat Banquet had ran out. We had vegetarian instead and the flavour was exceptionally good and portion sizes were great.
The Art Deco fit out and ambience of the place is on point 👌🏽
Lovely new fit out to this re born spot on high street. We visited on opening nite when a set menu was on offer so didn’t get the chance to sample the full offering. Loved the unusual bread and the delicious set plates. The lamb was gorgeous and the cous cous incredibly light. Service was very friendly and attentive, looking forward to going back and trying the menu when it’s up to full steam :-)
Though we couldn't gauge the authenticity of this Egyptian restaurant, the three dishes we tried were excellent: the couscous, rice dish with chicken added, and one of the goat mains. The wine we had - an Australian Riesling - was particularly exceptional. The service was pleasant.
Not only is the food here absolutely amazing, the wine list, the decor and the staff make this place so special. True hospitality at it’s finest. Will definitely be recommending and returning!
Impeccable decor. Service is great and the quality of food is high. Very fresh produce. Healthy and hearty. All food is made fresh on site, even the black hommous.
Absolutely phenomenal food! My partner and I tried the vegan banquet and were very impressed with the quality and care put into our meals. I like the owners' no-nonsense service, whom was very accommodating for my dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, and sesame allergy).
The luxe art deco interiors and romantic lighting create the perfect setting for date night, but it would also be a great place for an intimate group get-together.
Highly recommended!
I had the banquet with a couple of friends and it was a great experience. Food was really tasty and it obsviously fresh and organic. Never had Egyptian food before but I will definitely go back. The venue is just amazing and the service is really friendly and attentive. Make sure you try this restaurant during your time in Melbourne. Great value for prices also.
Found this place on a google search, and took a punt to take my partner for his birthday. short story - hit the jackpot! Food was amazing - so unique and so yum. It was obvious the chef and owner are passionate about high quality and authentic food. This was the first visit of what will now be many. Thanks for having us.
absolutely fabulous! beautiful food, lovely soft ambience & decor, and efficient and friendly service. cant believe I've lived in Northcote for nearly 3 years and not been here. Just a delight to come here and loved every dish, which were all a twist on the classics- humus to die for, char grilled chicken skewers, eggplant & lamb with hand- rolled couscous.. and more. Great food & dining experience- highly recommend Pharaoh. Well done Khalid and your team
Great service and knowledge of dishes from wait staff. I had no idea that vegan food could taste this good. Chef takes the time to introduce himself and chats amicably with his guests. The 1930's decor is outstanding, a step back in time to the glamourous era of art deco. The bar being the piece de resistance and the lighting giving the room a warm inviting feel. Reasonably priced with generous portions, I look forward to coming back again.
