Good service, consistently good food, BYO a plus
Friendly service, staff member recommended the slice chicken pho and it was so good! Can’t wait to go back
I had the vegan pho and veggie stir fried, all is so delicious. Staff are friendly and greeting say “Hello, table for 2?”, they quickly arrange the table and hot tea for us. So amazing. I will be back again to try all the food even though I live far away.
Go for number 102 mixed vegetables and tofu with steamed rice and a black bean sauce ... delicious! Can get noisy at peak times but that adds to the fun, relaxed during the off peak.
This place does a really good pho (it’s cheap too at $11 for a big bowl!) My vegetarian one had plenty of vegetables and the broth was perfectly flavoured and piping hot- not at all oily and just the right amount of saltiness!
A favourite dinner/lunch spot of ours, we always have a good experience. Food is fresh and relatively fast. Service is polite, spring rolls are fantastic and the pork with spicy salt is 👌🏻
Amazing cheap Vietnamese food! 5 dishes split between 4 people came to $17! The food was hot and fresh and plenty of it! Happy to split the bill. Looking forward to returning! Be sure to book as it can get quite busy and rightfully so!
Hi Guy's, another great restaurant in Northcote. really friendly staff and great food. It is BYO and has a basic dinning room. But the food is great.
Favourite restaurant, food and service are consistently good. Super fresh food, can’t go past the rice paper rolls and the pho. Been here many many times and will continue.
I come here almost every 2 weeks with friends or as takeaway. It is my go-to for Pho in the area, especially the chicken and beef Pho. Their summer rolls aren't that impressive but I have found this to be true for all Vietnamese restaurants, it is best to go to a Vietnamese bakery for decent summer rolls. Therefore, best to get spring rolls and make sure you wrap them in lettuce to get the full authentic experience!
Their rice dishes with veggies or meat are good too for a change and make excellent three colour drink. Their service has always been super fast, no matter what day or time it is, I always seem to get my order within 15-20 minutes and no later. The staff are friendly and helpful. I once asked for more beansprouts and basil with my Pho and they happily got me some for free.
The seafood dishes here are particularly good if you fancy a change from soup and stir-fry dishes. I've also had the rice drop noodles which are pretty funky, sort of irregular shaped noodles in delicious broth with your choice of meat/seafood. These noodles don't fall apart like rice noodles do and are a bit more chunky if you like that sort of thing.
Bang Bang - Vietnamese with a traditional set up (similar to other Vietnamese restaurants in Footscray or Vic St Richmond).
Dined in once and ordered take away a few more times. Good sauce for the vermicelli noodle salad! Both grilled chicken and pork were well grilled and packed with flavour, at $11 each, a steal.
The pho here is pretty banging. Soft noodles with tender beef balanced out with a clean broth.
The restaurant has a homey vibe keeping it low key with the oriental feels.
It doesn't get too packed so you won't be waiting for too long.
Must have one ...
Yes, every suburb in Melbourne must have at least one good and reliable Vietnamese restaurant. It was so good to see Bang Bang venturing to Northcote, we don't want an incomplete culinary scene.
The Menu is long and filled with too many items, so I go for the easy, cool meal for Summer; Rice Vermicelli Noodles with grilled Pork.
It was a 7/10 .... need to work on that over-grilled thin cut Pork, very generous serve of Vermicelli and Salad, add a bit more Chilies to the Vinegar sauce and it was just right.
Three Colours was delightful at $3.50, can't believe some other places are charging $5.00 and it's not as good as this.
Very attentive, efficient and pleasant service, it comes with a spacious and clean place to dine. Bang Bang is a good option for some Vietnamese food in Northcote area. JT-23/11/2017
soooo recently i have been feeling a bit like I'm coming down with the flu or something and so i went with my lovely housemate to Loving Hut to get their Bun bon hue (which is amazing BTW).
anyway they are closed on mondays , we we thought hey we can get a nice Pho , so we go to Bang bang cos its close.
anyway vege pho is always kinda wak so i panicked and ordered a Vegetable Laksa , usually i wouldn't mess with a laksa from a pho place but yknow everyone makes mistakes. anyway its came out and was mad bland and like LUKE warm at best . it tasted like supermarket coconut milk. mine didn't even have the good chilli oily stuff on top. but hey like i said everyone makes mistakes maybe they just forgot to put in on the stove for long enough so ill give them the benefit of the Doubt this time.
BUT
then we go to pay, (average price ,$12) and the dude at the counter is just standing there behaving in a rather questionable manner trying to tell my friend she has no money when his machine blew it and declined . then i go to pay and it declines and i say yea so what now mang i aint broke its ur machine dude check your thing out maybe you got bad reception in here it is kinda like this concrete bunker setup. finally it worked but yea i left the restaurant with a bad taste in my mouth (both mouths)
will not be coming back , but I'm still gona give this guy at least some stars cos I'm not a crazyy hatter like that .
peace. DAnny Pringles
I think Bang Bang gives you very nice food but sometimes you have to wait a while. My favourite dish is the chicken skewers. I also think that the restaurant could maybe do with a renovation.
My family and I have been coming to this place for years and it never fails to disappoint. Plus the staff look after you very well to every fine detail once they get to know you. Clearly they really pride themselves on customer service. Sadly, I no longer live in Northcote but still come by pretty often when I see my dad. It is always my go to place for authentic Vietnamese food. The winner here is the pork spring rolls and the Pho. Large Pho very cheap at $12, but I always opt for extra meat at only $3. Family and kid friendly. Highly recommend.
Nice original Chinese and Vietnamese food. Very friendly and quick service. Although it would be better if they made it a little less tacky🍲🍜🍱🍛🍚
Been here a million times and it's always good. Always! Wonton soup, crispy tofu, chicken coleslaw for the win. Add in a lemon drink and you are in moderately priced Vietnamese heaven.

Me and my girlfriend visited about a week ago and loved it. The price was great and there was plenty to choose from. The service and food was very quick and everything felt straight to the point, it was also very busy on the day but yet everyone was fed promptly. We arrived very hungry and didn't feel like we ordered too much but still had to be rolled home. I already feel the need to visit again.
Prawn Rice Paper Rolls
Combination stir fry with ginger and spring onion
Stir fry egg noodles with sizzling beef
steamed rice
Been here many times and never disappoints.
Always very tasty, quick and friendly service.
Pho, calamari, hot pot dishes all very good and always quick service with a smile 😃 !!
This place is close to home with a cheap and delicious bowl of rare beef pho.
The broth is light but packed full of flavour with a nice hint of star anise.
Condiments are ok, although the fresh chilies aren't the spiciest and sometimes not the freshest.
They also make banging beef wrapped vine leaves - so good I asked for the recipe.
Staff are friendly and keep the restaurant cleaner than most around the neighbourhood. Stoked they are open until 10pm everyday!
The quality and consistency of pho is very good, I've been eating here for more than 2 years. Haven't tried many other dishes, but among all the dishes i have tried, they are all good, if not excellent. People here are polite too.
The Gluten Free Chicken Pho was a delight. Same run of the mill service as any pho restaurant, this definitely adds to the charm. Somehow managed to control myself and not devour the whole thing. I can easily see how this is possible
My fave Vietnamese! The bbq pork rice noodle soup (and in fact all soups) are delish and generous. When I lived locally we literally had this once a week. Nice staff when you get to know them too :D
Really good quality Vietnamese, one of my favorites!
I'm absolutely addicted to the salt and pepper calamari - it's Devine! You can't beat the Phô of course, I've never had a meal here that disappointed.
Reasonably priced, delicious vietnamese food and friendly staff. That's a bangbang. BBQ pork pho, ridiculously delicious - that's a bangbang. Lemon chicken, who orders this? Gormet did, it ruled - that's a bangbang.
No complaints. Typical Australian Vietnamese family restaurant. Prices are about average as other Vietnamese restaurants. Food was okay....no complaints
This place is amazing. Best Pho I've had here in Melbourne. Amazing flavour and depth to the broth. Staff are always efficient and polite and the food is delivered fast. Great for done in our take away. I go at least once a week!!
This is the best pho joint out of the others on this strip of High St. The staff are always on the ball, the food is great (even non-pho options) and they take contactless card too, rare for one of these "just do it fast and good" Asian restaurants
Got the Chicken Pho, and the broth was rich and tasty. The balance of star anise and smoked cardamom was just right. So good after adding the basil, and the vietnamese don't shy away from the spice, as the couple of chillis delivered a swift one two punch to the gustatory system.
Simple Chinese / Vietnamese food. Menu has more variety than you average restaurant at this price point. Rice paper rolls are tasty but the soup is salty.

This would have to be one of my favourite Vietnamese lunch stops around.
Love the following
Prawn spring rolls
Prawn and pork rice paper rolls
Chicken Pho
There are so many good dishes here that I could keep going. Also a must is the Vietnamese iced coffee, what a great caffeine kick.
Fantastic food
good service
but don't get stuck in the back room thats when it is poor!
love the rice paper rolls, spring rolls, fried rice and soups!
for quick eats, and a great price you can't go wrong
Was around in this area today, so tried out this restaurant for lunch. Ordered their rare beef pho. Food came out fast and the broth was favoursome. Meal was good and portion was reasonable. However, I wish that they provide more vietnamese basil. Today was rather a warm day, the waiter served me a bottle of cold water. Might come back if I'm in the area.
As the great Jessie J said, BANG BANG ONTO THE SPOON! Such a good Vietnamese restaurant! Made a booking and was welcomed by very friendly staff who actually get you water when you ask for it within 1 minute on a busy saturday night! Like WTH?! We had the Vietnamese Coleslaw, Crispy Tofu and Laksa. All the dishes were very tasty and fresh. It's also very well priced and would definitely go back again. It's probably the best alongside Viet Pearl on High St.
Stumbled upon this establishment over 2 years ago now. Has been our number one choice of eat out since. Phở is on point here, chicken or beef it doesnt matter. Service is fast and friendly. Vermicelli is also second to none in melbourne. however, did not like the plum chicken, the plum sauce was not appealing to look at or taste!
In addition, khai is a gun!
Dined here with the ankle bitters at 5:30pm on a Sunday arvo. By the time we had managed to be sitting in a sea of fried rice, the place was heaving.
Pretty standard Vietnamese/ Chinese. No surprises; fast service; super accommodating to families with small kids; affordable; filling and causal.
If we lived locally we would definitely return.
It was obvious that there there were plenty of locals dining here.
Awesome name.

Sometimes all you need is a bowl of Asian soup to make everything better. My soup making skills are non existent, so it is important to have a trusty Viet place to visit. Bang Bang is located in the heart of Northcote on High St, surrounded by many other restaurants so it definitely had to be of a high standard to survive.

Great little cheap and cheerful Asian place to satisfy your Asian cravings. They have a very comprehensive menu with over 250 items and a dedicated vegetarian section that has vegetarian soups, noodles and wok dishes. BYO your own beer and have a great meal!
Yummy pho! Cheap looking place but good for a quick meal or takeaway. Stock flavour is really rich and big serves! Definitely go for beef over the chicken.

Love this place. Always busy. Great food. The calamari and the chilli lemongrass beef are two of our faves. Even though they're always pretty busy the service is relatively quick. Good place to go with four or so people and try a few dishes. Salt and spicy callimari is a must try
My friend and I came here because Lam Lam was full - and I'm soooo glad that it was! We both had pho and were very impressed with the broth. They also served very generous portions of chicken. We also had the salt & pepper squid which was as good as I've had anywhere. Prices were great, service was cheerful. I usually go to Pho Hung in Preston but this one is closer to home and definitely on par with the latter. My new fave Vietnamese, I'll be back for more!!
Quick and cheap. Love the wonton noodle soup. Spring rolls are good. There are a few other Vietnamese restaurants close by but Bang Bang is my choice.
Love this place..always coming back again and again. Staff are very friendly always find you a spot to eat as its usually busy. Food is delicious..im hooked on the sizzling mongolian beef dish..delicious!!
Go to Vietnamese spot in Northcote. Staff are super friendly and will always fit you in. The grilled chicken pho is spot on but the hot pots are the absolute stars of this place (especially the pork and eggplant). Take away servings are incredibly generous too!
Excellent food. Cheap prices and fast service. My kids loved the lemon chicken and I thought it was also tasty and not too sweet or sickly like many other places. Pho was great. Vietnamese coleslaw was very tasty. The crispy salted tofu was amazing. It's larger and less packed than Lam Lam down the road so a better place to sit and eat.
Good food at quite a reasonable price. There's a few staff awareness issues that seem to be commonplace in most 'cheap and cheerful' places, but the staff are always more than happy and willing once you get their attention. I go there almost weekly to meet up and have never been let down by the food. The servings are ample and made from fresh ingredients. My two faves are the Peking Beef and the King Prawns with vegetables and ginger and spring onion sauce. Under $40 for two people
My local go to place for rare beef pho. The seriously know how to make a delicious base broth for this dish. Love that they allow me to help myself to as much chilli oil for take aways also - they should make bottles for purchase! Chilli lemongrass chicken is also a winner! Yum!
Our regular Vietnamese go-to option in Northcote. Great value, no frills, service is quick and although it's often packed you don't have to wait for a table like at Lam Lam up the road. Pho always pleases here!
The best value takeaway around. We eat from here at least monthly. The takeaway containers are always packed with food not just sauce. The quality of the ingredients is always great with lots of fresh vegetables alongside the meat/fish choice. The eggplant/ pork hotpot is excellent. My toddler loves it.
Beyond amazing. Do yourself a treat and dine here. Nightly. Too good for life itself. Satay beef was best I've had and black bean just as good. Delicious spring rolls, ordered take away and they even put in lettuce. Delicious
Great place! Loved it, have just moved out of the area and will miss Bang Bangs
Bang for your buck. We first went here when we couldn't get a table at Lam Lam but did not regret it. Now we are regulars.
Great place - lots of tables, efficient service and fantastic food. Whether you're doing sharing dishes and having your own soups - they do an excellent job.

I went a bit overboard ordering as it was so cheap, and ended up with a plate full of delicious food that I couldn’t finish. Just writing about it is making my mouth water and I find myself reaching for my turkey roll that I am saving for lunch time, in order to fill the void. It’s not working. (It’s got some Baxters tomato chutney in it though so it’s still a winner.) Pho nomenal!
...the chicken was beautiful and juicy and tender, and the skin was crisp and really full of flavour. Great price for such a big serving, I wouldn’t mind trying some of the other ones, like the lemongrass beef! Also, great sauce – just the right balance between sweet and spicy!
BEST Pho in the North!. Quality top notch Pho! Number 1 in the North. Staff are very friendly and food comes out fast. Usually come here for pho bit sometimes I spoil myself and order the spicey salty squid. Amazing flavours! Been here so many times the guys know my order from memory! Cheers!
Fast, efficient & value for money. Have visited here several times and am always surprised how fast the food arrives, serves are generous and the free chinese tea is a bonus. Among the best Vietnamese/Chinese restaurants in the area.
Bang Bang for your buck!. This is a really good restaurant that is bang for your buck and bang in flavour .
Good service and friendly staff. I quite honestly have only tried a few items on the menu, so I can't vouch for all of their HUGE menu. Recommended (from him and from her) are: Crispy Calamari (Nước), Rice Vermicelli Salad -served with Spring rolls- (takes me back to Phú Quốc Island, no, really), Crispy Bean-curd/Tofu (đậu phụ) with spicy salt, Phở (pronounced "fahr") this one almost has a sweet taste in the broth and is DELICIOUS! (Try it with tripe!) and of course, the hot-plates. No visit to a viet/chinese restaurant isn't complete without a sizzling dish delivered to your table. Overall I give this place a 9/10. Hat's off to the lone girl that works the floor during dinner service, she can look grumpy at times but is a good worker and carries the floor well. She, like the other staff, are very friendly and accommodating.
Oh, and the boss man is pretty cool too. Cảm Ơn Bang Bang!
Cheap and delicious. Worth coming to - your salt and pepper tofu rocks, and everything ordered is never too oily. Loads of flavour for a small price. Customer service is efficient and friendly, even when super busy.
Not quite bang-on. Since this place names itself after pho, I probably should have ordered that. But I've eaten enough Vietnamese soup in this town, and it's almost always loaded with MSG, which gives me headaches, excessive thirst and malaise. So I went with a vermicelli noodle dish with a pork chop ($9) instead. It wasn't bad, just not too exciting. The chop was cooked OK, but it didn't have the taste of grill-charring or exotic lemongrassy spices that Viet pork usually does. I don't know how the cook cleavered through the bone, but it was chopped in chunks like a Peking duck, so I had to take care when eating the meat. The thin rice noodles were cooked softer than I like them. I'm not sure what the words for "al dente" and "flaccid" are in Vietnamese, but these noodles were the latter, when they should have been the former. The vegetable mixture was fresh, but it used a lot of iceberg lettuce, which got a bit limp and weird-tasting after exposure to the heat coming off the pork and the noodles. This dish didn't come close to another version at a Vietnamese restaurant named Sonex by Flagstaff station in the CBD.
My other gripe, trivial as it might seem, is that Bang Bang only provided a narrow straw with my 3-colour drink ($3.50). That works better with a bubble tea straw because it's impossible to suck up the green jelly and sweet red beans through an aperture designed for soda. To me, half the fun of a 3-colour drink is to slurp the ingredients together, so I get the combined tastes on my tongue at once.
Overall, it's not a bad place. It was full of diners on a Sunday night when other places nearby seemed dead, so Bang Bang has its fans. The pho seemed popular, and I was enticed by some of the sizzling platters the waiters brought out. As another reviewer said, it helps to know the menu (which is HUGE, and more than half Chinese dishes) to choose what Bang Bang does best. Vermicelli dishes are not it.
Suprisingly good!. I usually go to Lam Lam just up the road, but as its closed over Christmas we tried Bang Bang. We were really happy with it! The salty squid is great, possibly better than Lam Lams, as is the chicken fried rice which my 18 month old devoured. Spring rolls weren't great but didn't bother us too much. Staff are nice and food comes out fast, but we order early due to early kids dinners. Recommended!
Cheif Keef be like... I love the name. #3hunna
The Pho was alright, they gave me extra change accidently but I gave it back.
:)
Yum food and Bang for your buck. I took my mum here for lunch and we enjoyed everything we ordered. We had the steamed prawn dumplings and spring rolls for entree and shared a combination flat rice noodle dish for main which was very fresh and tasty. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
Know the menu!. I work a few places down from Bang Bang and order takeaway a couple of times a week. As with many Vietnamese/Chinese places it is important to know the menu and know which dishes they do really well and which not. In saying that their menu is HUGE!
HIGHLY recommend Crispy Bean Curd with spicy salt and pepper - absolutely addictive, since I tried it I haven't ordered anything else! Their spring rolls with vermicelli are pretty tasty as well. Singapore fried noodles are good - I cover them in Chilli sauce.
Char Kway Teow is not very taditional but then very few places make that well.
Steer away from their rice paper rolls they are very average.
Overall super fast, cheap and tasty food - so long as you know what to order!
What a great find this place is. quick, clean, the pho is AMAZING and love the complementary tea
Awesome food. Great service!. We pop in here when we need a quick, healthy, easy meal.
They use msg but will happily leave it out if asked.
Wait staff are friendly, prompt, attentive and generous. Not bothered by children wandering between tables or watching them work.
Food is exceptionally cheap, fast, fresh and delicious. The Pho is divine, and they do a great msg-free vego Pho with vegetable stock.
Big thumbs up from us!
This is the best Pho I've experienced outside of Vietnam. We always order the same thing; a beef and brisket pho for him, sliced chicken pho for her and mixed spring rolls (for him and her.). We've ventured in to the other parts of the menu and can recommend the salt and pepper calamari and the prawn crackers. The staff are attentive and friendly. There are over 350 items on the menu. We have only tried maybe 20 items off the menu. So that is about 7%ish of the total menu. So we can't speak for every meal on the menu but we will commit in recommending to the pho to the world. The crowning glory is certainly the melamine plates.
Local favourite. This is a weekly visit for us, walk up to High St and have great food, it's fresh, it's tasty, it's clean and it's cheap...what's not to love!
So cheap. Only good for the soups though. So good and so big but don't eat anything else. Just the soup
So cheap and so good. This place is so good! The rice vermicelli with spring rolls is the absolute bomb, and the pho ga is fantastic. I come here all the time and it's always yum, never had a bad experience. Sure the service leaves a little to be desired at times, but when two people can eat and be satisfied for under $20, it's good enough for me!
Inexpensive. Needed to catch an early train and they were very happy to get our food out
Very quickly. Food was nice and very friendly staff.
Great beef Pho! Haven't tried Yen Yen yet but definitely beats Lam Lam for Pho on high street!
I took my mum here for mothers day. We ordered the chicken and corn soup, the beef ball soup, a quail with spicy sauce. For the mains we ordered a garlic chicken sizzling, a chicken and vegetable with a fried rice.
The beef ball soup had a nice flavor but it wasnt with ball , just thick pieces of beef. The chicken and corn soup is usualy always good and this was no exception. The quail was juicy and succulent but the sauce wasnt really spicy but all the garlic pieces gave it a little zing. I was still eating the quail when the main came out, which i would have prefered it to be about 15 or so minutes later. But they were both really really nice. This place has a nice set up and is well lit but their seats are a little hard.
Best chicken rice paper rolls I have had in Melbourne. Rare beef pho broth is in my top 3. Love bang bang!!!!
Great food great service. Been a fan since opening in 2011!! Pho is awesome
The best on High St. This is easily my favorite place to eat on High St. There are lots of veggie and gluten free options. The menu has heaps of variety too. The food is alway fresh and comes out pretty quickly. The atmosphere isn't exactly 5 star and there seems to be a fast staff turnover...I don't think I've ever seen the same waiter twice! Regardless, the staff are never rude and they always get your order right. The portion sizes are decent so you always get your moneys worth. I'd recommend Bang Bang to anyone.
I only work a 2 min walk away from here and often place a take away order. Ready in 15-20 mins, never had to wait, friendly staff and great fresh food. Not sure why certain people are constantly whinging! Crispy bean curd with chilli salt I rate very highly!
