Review Seoul Soul - Northcote

Katerina Ana
Beautiful food and worth every scent, all of this and dumplings came to $84 which is so reasonable. We left full and happy - great customer service and will be returning!

DO not order on Deliveroo, my partner and I placed an order on Deliveroo prior to the food being prepared we have tried contacting the restaurant multiple times, to inform them about allergies. No one was there to pick up, after consecutive calls. upon arrival the food was DAMAGED and liquids were leaking from compartments of the noodle soup we ordered, we had to clean up the sticky mess ourselves, additionally the food wasn’t even able to be consumed because of the allergies. The drinks we had ordered was covered in the liquid that had fell out of the box, the waiters did not take the time to package the food properly and therefore resulting in this sloppily presentation of what we paid $50 for.

Food: it was good. Would I go out of my way for it? No. But it’s okay. The spicy fried chicken isn’t even spicy, which was odd. The kimchi on the fried chips was spicer. Again, it’s not a bad feed, but it’s not an amazing feed. Venue: really cool vibe, the set up is pretty cool also. It’s a shame the stools you have to sit on a damn uncomfortable after 10mins. They should look into getting some outdoor seating also, the from path has heaps of room. Left a tad disappointed.

Don’t order via Deliveroo or Uber. Misleads consumers that they are open for business yet rejects every order made. The usual response: “unable to pick up orders due to being too busy” Orders have been made on multiple occasions at different times and different days so I find this response as just being a lazy response! If you are open for business then actually be open! And if you can’t honour anyones orders then don’t register your business with Uber or Deliveroo!

First place to visit after the extended lockdown. They sat us straight away, food was even better than months ago. I had the chicken Bibimbap, husband had the fried chicken, and we shared a side of kimchi. Loved it! Seoul Soul never disappoints :) Thank you

Got the beef bulgogi bibimbap and the Kim chi pancake on uber eats. Was delicious and put together fast. Was good.

Amazing food! Super kind staff, gave us extra chips when they found out that we had kids eating with us!

Great food but not very authentic Korean

Found an excellent Korean restaurant in the northern suburbs! And probably my new fav Korean in Melb (that is not a Korean bbq joint):
- original and sweet chilli boneless chicken: huge portions, tender and delicious pieces of chicken
- beef bibimbap: really good, huge portion and big egg
- japchae: wow, the flavours were amazing! delicious (our fav of the night)
- tteok bok ki: good, generous serve of cheese on top
- kim chi: delicious, wouldn't have minded more
Overall, a great meal and look forward to dining here post restrictions! Recommended.

goddamn the grilled kimchi pork belly is good. Everything else is pretty mediocre, but the grilled kimchi pork belly is a masterpiece. The kimchi is so well-fermented, 5 stars baybee.
Eat Good Melbourne
Came here for lunch on a Saturday. We ordered the prawn gyoza, need bibimbap, and chapchae. The gyoza was really nice, crispy skin and tasty prawn filling. The bibimbap was overportioned with vegetables, and had very minimal meat. For $17 I expected more beef. Staff are nice and the venue is cute. Service is fast. Not a bad spot to pop in for a quick lunch.

We had a kimchi pancke, chapchae and some rice. Kimchi pancake was a bit small, but tasted good. Chapchae went well with rice. High tables and chairs are not very comfortable but it's good enough for a quick bite.
Didn't realize it's the same restaurant in Emporium food court. They've got different vibes.

Second time coming to Seoul Soul and I enjoyed everything we ordered. I would recommend ordering the kimchi fries too (I shared with the hubby). Lots of veg/GF options as well which was good. Seems like the menu has been changed since coming here last but the food was still good and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Haven't been for a while, but the Korean Fried Chicken here is great and they even shouted us a free beer with the meal. Looking forward to coming back.
Nicole Deng
Quite disappointed. Pancake was over cooked and very oily. Kimchi hot pot very small serve and salty...BBQ meat was chewy.
Probably the worst Korean restaurant I had in Melbourne. You could do better at home by yourself.
Very expensive also. Not good value at all.

This place used to be one of my favourite joints on high street and would regularly get it delivered at home as well as eat in their pretty cool restaurant. The staff are really nice and the drinks are cheap but unfortunately the menu changed about 3 months ago and its now average at best, it has a fast food feel to it now and I felt very dissatisfied after the last two times we ate here. So unfortunately I will not be back.

Fyi- menu on Zomato is not up-to-date, it is similar though. I have had the bimimbap many times and I really love it!! Hot stone or not, it is a great meal. The fried rice akes are pretty good and the kimchi fries are amazing!! No faults at all.
Kyah English
Great authentic tasting Korean food. The fried chicken is juicy and Cooked very well. The Bibimbap hit stone is a stand out though! Rice goes crispy and once you add the spicy sauce you have a winner of a dish!
Split The Bill
I had the grilled halloumi & veggie bowl here on Saturday. It was delicious, all fresh veggies, a quarter of an avocado and good serving of halloumi. The sesame mayo was delicious.
Cheesy.boys
Really good Korean food. Servings are generous and good service too. The hot and spicy boneless chicken really was exactly that, hot and spicy.
Only downfall is the fact they don’t split bills or provide any sides with your meal. Would go back.
Jude Jaeger
Tiny portion for the price. Bulgolgi was barely marinated and they forgot a meal. Service was good other than forgetting our food.
Ribs were very average. No idea how this got 4 stars, I think other reviewers have never eaten Korean and don't mind being hungry or buying two meals per person to be full.
Quince And Cheese
One of my favourite mid-tier Korean restaurants in Melbourne. For only a bit more than what you'd pay at more casual spots in the city, you get high-quality dishes and a really nice ambience. The roasted cauliflower with mashed tofu is not a traditional Korean dish by any means, but it's so worth the order. There's no pairing quite like toasted sesame plus roasted bits of cauliflower. Both smoky and nutty in their own rights. For a main, I got a bibimbap. Pretty standard option, but this one rated considering the generosity of add-ins it featured (including lots of ginger, a win for me, and a big piece of croquette). Another non-traditional but so tasty dish was the basket of kimchi fries that I begrudgingly let my co-diner order. Glad I did, because they were some real nice chips (and this is coming from someone who doesn't like chips at all). Seoul Seoul may very well be one of the most interesting and veggie-friendly Korean spots in the city. If you don't eat meat but are sick of the same old veggie-fied Korean dishes you get at classic restaurants, you've got to pay this place a visit.

They often forget things when you order Uber eats from them, they say to refund but never do.

Kimchi soup had 3 cubes of pork in it. Quantities are tiny compared to proper Korean restaurants and over priced.
Nadia Christine
Used to love this place. But the portions have shrunk and I paid $3.50 for a cab of coke and the steam buns were frozen and remixrowaved. is it under new management? It used to have so much awesome stuff - but the takeaway tonight was super disappointing

Have been to this place so many times and ordered way too many deliveries.
Always consistent and perfect.
Their service is friendly and efficient.
Must try: Beef bilgogi bimbimbap
We Know This Place
Korean cuisine is not something that we have ventured much into in the past. The few times we did try it however, we visited Seoul Soul and, having been impressed with our initial experiences there, it has been on our review list for a couple of months. It was only a matter of time before we shared our thoughts on the restaurant with you.
MelbfoodCritic
Walking down the high street, we decided to check this place as a bystander recommended. It’s a small restaurant with modern urban interior. Seating can be a bit crowded given the small size. Good size menu with somewhat semi-fusion..Style Korean dishes. We ordered grilled pork belly set, tap beer, beef chap-chae style dish. Service was friendly however we had to ask for our beer & sides we ordered. Meaning staff were nice but not trained waitress. Grilled pork belly was nice, nice grilled fatty & meaty goodness with charred grilled taste accompanied with fresh small spring onion & fresh salad cuts greasiness of the dish. Beef chap-chae type dish though a bit too sweet for my licking & it takes away the true taste of beef. Kirin beer on tap was ok to wash everything down. Price overall reasonable. Taste, food quality, ambiance & service against price gives an overall score of 3.6*

Cute little place that was quite busy, but service was fast. Ordered the kimchi hotpot, but I couldn't taste or find the pork belly in it? Beef bulgogi dosirak wasn't too spicy and it was so tasty, and the prawn version was just as good. Whatever you order, make sure you order the homemade kimchi. It comes in a cute little jar and it's so good. Will come back and try out different dishes.

I got a sense that this place was more about image than taste and value. The food looked fantastic, the venue was cool and modern. However, the food was average, a bit pricey for what you actually got. I ordered from the Specials menus which was avocado with rice...which was exactly what I got with some sauce for under $20 while my friend got the Bibimbab which was more expensive but she got extra veggies and was more substantial. I believe I made a poor choice, Koreans don't usually serve avocados with rice but it sounded intriguing and healthy. Anyway, the Bibibab was quite nice but the avocado with rice wasn't...it was extremely bland! However, the rice was cooked nicely and I love sticky rice. Interestingly, I have noticed they have stopped serving this special now...I was definitely being experimented on!

Since I've not had a good experience with Korean food, I am still not converted after this experience. Maybe I will try something else and write another review. However, the options don't look all too wholesome nor healthy and there are better places to eat on the High St for your buck.

We used to love this place but now every dish tastes the same. It doesn't seem to be near as good... Don't know what happened... new chef? Fire them please!!!

Felt like Korean and my friend suggested Seoul Soul. I called up beforehand to make a reservation. On arrival the restaurant was only occupied by a few diners. They took our drink orders as we skimmed the simple,small-ish menu. We decided on kimchi fries, spicy chicken steak and spicy beef bulgogi.. some rice and kimchi sides. Firstly, the kimchi fries came out. It definitely had too much mayo.. it wasn't great mayo either which made it worse. Not worth the $12. Second to come out was the chicken steak! Chicken was cooked perfectly but the sauce was sickly sweet and syrupy which i found overbearing..really need to zingy peppery rocket salad with every mouthful! The beef bulgogi again was sweet.. The beef was tender and tasty though! Rice was standard but the house made kimchi wasn't fantastic. Overall the meal was alright! Wouldn't be in a hurry to come back though.

I've been meaning to eat here for a while and am glad I finally made it. I stopped for a quick after work bite as I was hungry and it was getting too late to bother cooking. I am not a fan of eating off bar stools but on this occasion it wasn't a big deal. Ordered the tofu and veg stir fry spicy option and a side of kimchi. Food arrived fresh and hot and and the kimchi was presented in a little jar. The food was enjoyable-nicely spiced and tasty and as I only drank water, for the grand total of $18 I felt well fed and happy. I'll go back, next time with friends.

Really yummy Korean. The dosirak are really good value for money and big on flavour! Only thing is it can take a while when they are busy filling Uber Eats orders

Seoul Soul has a trendy vibe with shared tables, good food and honest staff, what more could anyone ask for? Shared three dishes, Salmon Ceviche, Dduk Bok Ki and spicy beef Bulgolgi. Each dish out did the previous and made for a pleasing dinner.

Revisited recently and stand by my initial review. Really enjoyed my revisit.

I've only been here once but would return. Came with a friend, the vegetarian dumplings are to die for but I wish they done them in bigger portion sizes and the price wasn't so hefty. Usually quite busy for dinner. Good experience eating Korean for the first time and the staff were lovely
Iamyjlee82
Thanks to the staffs. I've taken a fantastic dinner. The food was great and staffs are lovely kind. Atmosphere of inside was quite Attractive.
Yumyumfoodyum
Had the spicy beef bulgogi meal bucket and a couple of max beers. Tasty food with just the right amount of spice. The veggies were well cooked and still tender crisp. Service was friendly even though it was quite busy. It got quite loud in there though, but will definitely return.

Yum. Prices have gone up, but still great dishes and good value. Miss the pickles in the jars on the table, but some dishes are presented with sliced pickled white radish which is awesome. Love eating tapas style and sharing a variety of small plates. Food comes out really fast.

Food is great here, but the new takeaway menu sucks. How can you put a time limit on what meals you can order? Dosirak was awesome takeaway, but now I can't order it after 7:30 and to get the same thing costs double. Sorry Seoul soul. I'm sorry to say you've lost my patronage.

Uhh, yeah, hold up I feel something good comin

Kimchi pancakes
with some pickles on the side
I took em for a ride
Into my insides

Triple B* yes please
Served up in a stone pot
Keepin ingredients hot
I ate the whole lot

*bibimbap, a rice dish with assorted vegetables meat and egg on top, hand mixed by the diner

Yummy Korean food, prawn dumplings are my favorite dish from their menu. Always fresh ingredients and the prices are very reasonable. Keep the good work

EDIT: unfortunately I have to lower my rating of Seoul Seoul and won't return again :(
-The serving sizes are too small. I always leave hungry even though a bibimbap is $17! And at lunch it advertises lunch PRICE but it comes in a miniature bowl! 😑
-Most Korean places offer mushroom and tofu together for the vegetarian one, as mushroom usually comes with all bibimbap including meat ones, but here you have to choose one of mushroom or tofu.. It'd be fine but there isn't enough of anything, including rice.
- The bibimbap are flavourless. They need salt! OPPA in the city gives you mushrooms AND tofu, and the bibimbap is well seasoned, bigger AND cheaper!!!!
- We always order quickly and we've been there plenty of times, and yet the server always tells us how to eat bibimbap. I know! Remember your customers and read your clients body language!
- Kimchi and pickles used to be free but are now $2 each with the new menu.
Not impressed.
I don't want them to close because I appreciate suburban bibimbap... but they need to improve to survive.
KevinTheHungryFoodie
Seoul soul is a Korean restaurant with a nice modern and stylish interior, the food here has good proportions especially with their bibimbap and dosiraks (meal buckets). I've been to this place both during lunch and dinner.

Their dinner menu is much most vast compared to their lunch menu which is a con however. They do have their lunch specials which means you can grab their dosiraks and bibimbap for cheaper compared to their dinner period. As for their dinner menu the Korean BBQ comes out on a hot plate instead of you being able to grill on a charcoal grill yourself. And also alcohol their Korean rice punch seems to be available only during dinner service.

I highly recommend the bibimbap and dosiraks a they fill you up and go during their lunch period for cheaper meals. I only rate this place a 3.5/5 instead of a 4 or 5 because you lose the fun you get with the Korean BBQ during dinner as you don't get a grill to yourself. Also the staff were friendly, however sometimes they might be a little slow on service such as delivery of food to your table and may take a while to clear your table.
Stacy
The takeaway meal "buckets" are great value and good variety. Recommended. Eating in, the fitout is modern and hip and the staff are super friendly. Love the little side dishes.
MiSun Shim
Very disappointing. Hot stone bibimbap with beef was served cold. Variety of vegetables in it was very poor. Portion of beef was quite small as well. Sesame oil was served in a separate bottle, which was flavourless and seemed old. Kimchi and pickled radish were served in tiny jars which didn't look too hygienic either. Way over priced for a bowl of bibimbap, 17 dollars! Hugely disappointed. Never go again, never recommend for anyone.
Ben To
First couple of times got the dosirak (meal bucket) which was ok, but nothing special. This time we shared kimchi pancake, fried prawn dumplings, and soybean soup and it was all excellent. Atmosphere great, service fine. Overall a winner.

I did find it odd that 2 things were missing from their menu: soju and dessert
Zara Summer
As a vegetarian, I ordered VEGETARIAN dishes as a take away order and I find BACON in my kimchi fries as I am eating them! I am completely outraged and when I called up I wasn't even offered a refund. I am completely turned off my food and really disappointed that a restaurant I previously enjoyed would be so disrespectful to their customers. Don't recommend this restaurant to anyone with dietary restrictions - they quite obviously don't care.
Livilivilivil
The food is tasty here, however the customer service is what brings down my rating. A female staff member who seemed to be running things was especially rude and blunt, telling off a new employee infront of customers and ignoring me when I tried to place my order, when there were only 4 customers in the venue. Change your attitude woman, this is the second time I've experienced poor service from her.
Sweet And Sour Fork
First impressions of the Stir-Fried Spicy Calamari ($18) weren’t so good. Although it looked and smelt delicious, there was only maybe a dozen pieces of squid. Thankfully the squid that was there was tender and well cooked, and drenched in a flavoursome sweet and spicy sauce. Great for having on top of Rice ($3/bowl).

If only .... "give peace a chance" - John Lennon

If only that simple (we won't need the UN) a glass or Japanese Kirin Beer and traditional Korean Bimbimbap = equilibrium = peace

Trendy Northcote location, sleek interior, smart looking team in the Kitchen and the result speaks for itself.

Very small served, not much Pork in Spicy Pork Bimbimbap, but delicious, must order side/s next time.

Kamsahamida.

Now this is what I call Korean! Pork Belly was very tender. The service was very welcoming and warm. Decent price given the quality and quantity

Went here to grab some lunch takeaway. Ordered Beef Bimbimbap, Spicy Chicken Bulgogi and seafood pancake. Waitress confirmed on screen my order and it checks out. However, when I got home, I realised the bimbimbap had no beef. Super annoyed. Seafood pancake portion was miserable. Spicy Chicken was not too bad which is the only plus.
Elisa Louise Gallo
Food was very reasonably priced. Pork dumplings were delicious and juicy. Kimchi hot pot was wonderfully flavourful and filling. Spicy chicken meal bucket was very nice but spicier then expected.
Belle Dimitrijevski
Would definitely recommend this place! We had the beef and pork bulgogi and the kimchi soup, it was delicious! Service was good and a great atmosphere.

Street-eateries are not about the finest ingredients, the most skilful chefs, or the most flawless service. What it is about, for me, is a genuine cross cultural experience without the need for airports, hotels and inter-continental travel plans. This is something that Seoul Soul definitely provides.
Small things, like the hanging deelios above the bench-style tables... The way the bricks reflect the chatter of happy diners so that it sounds like a huge hawker hall, rather than a tiny narrow shop front in Northcote... And I would feel a little cheated if the (lovely) waitstaff had fluent English.
These all contribute to the illusion of being somewhere else, somewhere more exotic and vibrant than an inner suburban street in your home town.

Highlights... The stone bowl bibimbap (the rice forms a delicious crunchy crust at the bottom of the bowl... YUM!), the pork belly set (not the most tender or top-quality pork, but great smoky flavour), the fantastic almost-Hoi sin-sauce- but -better, soooo much onion.... Another sesame based dipping sauce with a hitherto unprecedented amount of salt crystals in it, an array of crunchy pickled veg, from the sweeter turnip pickles to well balanced daikon pickle with black sesame. And Kim-chi, the God of pickles!

Satisfied customer!
Got_2_lunch
Tasty and affordable Korean, great with mates if you can land a table. I love the pork belly dish with the addition of pickles and kimchi from the table. Stone bowl bibimbap is also a winner. I didn't really get it at first, but the crispy grains of rice that cook to the stone bowl are out of this world :)
Sophieea
This place is yum! The inside decor is interesting but maybe makes you feel a bit claustrophobic not sure if that is intentional. The kimchi fries with cheese highly recommended so delicious!!! We also got the avocado birimbup which was a great side with all the other meaty things. Dumpings were yummy too. Recommend trying this place!

Seoul Soul Plus is a funky modern Korean joint on Northcote's High Street. With its clean lines and minimalist industrial furnishings and décor, replete with a pink neon sign and all, it looks a lot more LA hipster bar than ethnic restaurant. Now, this would normally scream "fusion" (read, toned-down, bland Asian food catering for Western tastes) and ring alarm bells for me. However on this occasion, I was starving and not many of the restaurants on the strip were open yet for lunch. So I decided to give it a go, popped in and checked out their lunch menu. Surprisingly, all the set lunch dishes (bibimbaps, dosiraks, dumplings and noodles) were quite cheap at around the $9-11 mark and you could customize your dish with sides like fried eggs and kim chi. Being a chilli lover, I ordered the spicy beef bulgogi dosirak (essentially, a Korean bento). To my surprise, it came on a heated hotplate as opposed to the bamboo baskets dosiraks usually come in (a major tick). The beef was well-marinated and tasty and they certainly didn't hold back on the "spicy" bit (another major tick ) It came with a small mound of rice and red pickles topped with 2 mini deep-fried snacks - a spring roll and a potato samosa of sorts. All very simple, yet very satisfying. I could probably have done with a fried egg and kim chi to top it off, but it was perfectly filling on its own and for $9, a complete bargain. The service was also friendly and attentive, the meal arriving within the 10 minute mark. The only minor criticism I have is that the seating (stools) with high tables is rather uncomfortable and they should consider some more cushioned side booths. All in all, cheap and cheerful yet surprisingly authentic Korean fare in hip surroundings. 4/5

Nice decor and special table setting. Very friendly and attentive staff.

Start with complimentary kimchi and some daikon, i think also has some mixture of cabbage and vinegar to marinate, each kept in individual small glass container, as soon as you open the cap, you can smell it straight away.

The kimchi pancake is the least flour pancake compare with the others i had in the past, which is good because you doesn't want to be too floury. The side dish cauliflower, it looks a bit shocking too me that the cauliflower looks so white, not sure is it because of the vinegar marinated it. The portion of the kimchi is slightly smaller compare with the other restaurants, but mostly important taste is good.

The chargrilled pork belly, I'm not vey like this dish, i find the dish looks slightly different from the menu. The sauce i think is sesame oil with salt. The only taste on the pork belly is chargrilled as its name, other than that nothing special, not worthy for the price they charges.

The spicy soup, with seafood and tofu, the soup is very nice too, surprisingly they often forget to describe the soup ingredients with seafood, people might thought it is just a vegetarian soup. Reasonable seafood amount served, this order also comes with a bowl of rice.

Happy to come back again to try out other dishes.
Butters Stotch
Nice little place with great food. Enjoyed my dining experience here, the service could improve a little but overall my experience was good. The food here was great, would definitely go back.
Mr. Sasquatch
Very happy with this place - especially the food which was fresh and tasty and arrived quickly. Also the portion sizes were reasonable, i.e. not too big. Nicely decked out for a small joint, perfect for a quick weekend dinner before heading out on High St.

Snuck in with the family 15 mins before closing time last night - thankful to be let in. I am in two minds about the interior. Yes I get the squished in retro hawker futuristic Bladerunner feel but imagine comfy chairs and no boxed in metal/wood features above my head - the space would be amazing!

As mentioned the seating is designed to look good but it's not comfortable and you won't stay very long - maybe that's the idea these days in places that need turnover. The low lighting I thought was great until I needed to read the menu. It's black typeface on a brown background in about 4pt - try reading that in a dimly lit room. I reckon the prices are in an even smaller font. I really had no idea what anything cost.

Had the fried and steamed dumplings - really yummy, the whole family really liked them. The shitake mushrooms were big on flavour and had plenty of the said ingredient. Make a good share dish. The crispy chicken and salad was just a pub schnitzel - did not feel or look Korean at all. Teriyaki chicken wings had a decent flavour. I would have liked less of them but more meatier wings but okay none the less.

So overall it's a pretty solid eating venue. Our orders were taken by a very friendly lady but I couldn't understand a word she said. I was a little nervous when she read back what we ordered (didn't sound like anything I had said to her) but it all came out just as we asked. Plates are cool and metal chopsticks are most unusual and make a point of difference.
FoodieAboutTown
Seoul Soul are specialising in taking the smallest spaces and turning them into the coolest Koreans in town! You can probably seat 25 people comfortably and I love the little high tables and stools, the menu comes with regular and clipboard of photos of the dishes. There isn’t a wine list but you can grab Korean’s favourite beer – Cass and enjoy some very lovely food.
Iris Myandowski
High St has really picked up its game in the past year and this is my absolute favourite. Old haunts like Bang Bang are going to have spruce up to try and keep up. Make sure you specifically ask for the vegetarian and gluten free menus or you won't be given them. I had the teriyaki tofu dinner bucket because I thought the name was amusing.

FINALLY there is a Korean Restaurant in the Northern suburbs, as Korean cuisines are my favorite - this is definitely a bonus. I particularly like how it has all the basic / usual Korean dishes, just wish they could add a little kick and co-operate a BBQ facility too!! On its own, this little restaurant gets pretty busy. I guess because High Street is pretty popular place to roam around so it situated in a nice location. On top of that, Seoul Soul had great interior design with the wooden modern outlook, its nice and clean and fresh looking which makes it very inviting.

For the food, I enjoy the side condiments like the radishes and the kimchi, it really went well with the bibimbap and although it cost a bit extra for the stone pot, I recommend to get it because it cooks the rice even more which makes it crunch y and crispy. Who doesn't like the added texture?

I've been to this restaurant twice so far. One was to eat in and the other was to take out. My mum even enjoyed the take out food. I love how they packed it into cute little packaging. Mum even kept the boxes LMAO.

Lovely little place hidden in the heart of Northcote. Reasonable and delicious traditional korean food. I recommend the rice punch in hot day.
Love Seoul soul food !! Definitely love this take away version the best when thinking about having asian. Good price and always quick 👍 Richmond one is also great!

A great local. Probably my favourite Korean food in town. Fast friendly service, albeit with a slight language barrier sometimes, and fairly priced food. Favourite dish is the beef meal bucket, and the kimchi pancake. Good for takeaway too.

Do you enjoy delicious food?
Do you like home made pickle and Kim Chi Garnishes?
Do you like dumplings that come out in their own tiny pan in a delicious sauce?
Do you like cheap lunch specials?
Do you like beaut as take away packaging that makes you realise take away packaging can be beautiful and you hadn't even really thought about it before then?

If you said yes you should go there my friend!
If you said no I don't really know how you get your jollies.
Go get a teriyaki tofu meal bucket!
Tonmint'Thanaphorn
Delicious food with reasonable price, fast service and super friendly waitress. We had 2 entrees and 2 main courses. Kimchi hot Pot is really nice and I've try the new menu K.F.C (Korean Fried chicken) it was really crispy and tasty!

LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Best deal on such a delicious selection!! The food was amazing, loved the service and loved the vibe! Been about 10 times and my idea of the place hasn't changed

2016: Disappointing 2nd visit: arrived to find they had no record of my booking, sat us in between two other (loud) couples and then completely ignored us for the next 20 minutes. Decided to leave and go next door to Ramen House instead where we had prompt, friendly service and a much better experience. Such a shame because the food is really tasty if you can get it.

Also the high chairs are awkward and it's kind of off-putting sharing a table with strangers on either side; you can hear their conversation, they can hear yours and it's just loud and uncomfortable.

2015: Fantastic decor, vibe, service, prices & food! The meal bucket is the best as you get a variety of tasty things beautifully presented. Complimentary kimchee & pickles too!

Ate lunch here last sunday after a long road trip. The spicy chicken dosirak, the prawn dumplings, the hot stone chicken bibimbap were so tasty. We left feeling warm and satisfied on that cold afternoon. Will definitely go back for more soul food.
Bianca
Terrible service, I think the waitress bumped into 5 times and didn't apologize once!! Bimbimbap was lackluster. Not flavourful. The meat used was terrible and minimal.
Jessie Hams
Staff are friendly and food comes out super quick! I go here for lunch often and the food is well priced. The restaurant has an awesome setup and great atmosphere.
Angela Yang
Came here on a quiet monday night and had a great feed! My friend and I shared a dosirak, bibimbap and some seaweed wrap entrees. All the food were super delicous and full of flavour, especially the spicy tofu dosirak which had a lovely smoky flavour to it. The servings are pretty generous and next time i'd probably say share a dosirak/bibimbap and get more sides. The only slight let down was they only had very limited alcoholic drinks options and I wish they had more banchan (the pickles that come as an accompaniment to the dishes).

Love their gorgeous fit out and they were blasting major lazer and zedd too!
Dickmont Jones
Great little place for a qaulity Korean feed at an affordable price! I highly rate this. Very tasty. Good comes out fast. Best to book or come early as there is limited seating.
Sleek, modern design/well thought out interior with lovely staff. The meals aren't overpriced like you would expect for a high street locale and they do a great job at catering to those who aren't familiar with Korean food. Great for a mid-week pit stop lunch or weekend dinner that looks out onto the street and it's shenanigans. I'm a vegan and the $10 kimchi noodle soup blew me away alongside a korean beer. If you're not keen on high-stools, metal chopsticks or huge pink neon signs, they also do takeaway in trendy bags for your convenience.

Fabulous food with great service! Our group arrived with some first time and some experiencedKorean food eater, yet the menus were well set out and clear making it enjoyed for all. The food was lovely and arrived piping hot, enjoyed by all and highly satisfying! The staff were lovely and enjoyed suggesting their favorite foods! Much enjoyed!

10/10. Went for dinner with my Mum here, who had only had Korean food on Korean Airlines up to that point. We each got a 'meal bucket' (teriyaki tofu for her, spicy beef bulgogi for me) and shared a bottle of black raspberry wine. The wine was super fucking delicious and $19 for about 4.5 standard drinks which is awesome. You drink it from tiny little adorable cups so even though it's a small bottle it lasts.

The meal buckets were great, lots of food and a great variety of little extras like edamame, croquette and spring roll along with your rice, salad, and meat/tofu.

Can't complain about the service, I liked the atmosphere (though some may not, you sit on small high stools at long shared tables) and the price for what you get is ridiculous. I'll definitely be back here again. :)

Awesome food and value+. Tasty affordable and cosy. Great lunch cant wait to get back for pork belly dinner.

Ate there last week for the first time and loved the food....HOWEVER, the stools are so uncomfortable I won't be eating in again, might just get takeaway. I'm tall with a bad back and so after 30 mins was in a lot of pain! On the plus side, the prawn dumplings were delicious and the Teriyaki meal bucket was fresh, hot and full of yummy flavours. It was a late lunch and only two other diners were there, so nice and quiet, although the music was questionable. Great service!

Great food, great value (vegetarian). YUM.
I had birthday dinner here with a few friends and loved it. Great vibe, delicious food and good service all for a really good price.
I'm a vegetarian so I had the vegie dumplings and tofu food bucket. Also tried some of the shitake mushrooms.
The meal bucket was only about $14 (from memory) and was a really substantial meal.
I'd loved it, would definitely be back.

Food was ok. Not bad value for money, but wow I felt I had stepped into a techno nightclub. It was midday on a Wednesday and their music was pumping. I felt myself chewing my meal to the fast beats of this techno soundtrack! Service was typically Asian not a smile in sight. It was so nice when we stepped out on to high street for some peace and quiet.

Worst service in town, rude staff. Food no good. Do not reccomend.

Tried this place late on a Thursday night after a friend had suggested we give it a try. Absolutely did not disappoint. Had the teriyaki chicken meal bucket for $14. The flavours were delicious and really decent size. Staff were fairly friendly but the food was the standout!

Frank. Great atmosphere and great Korean food. Korean food with a twist.

Good for a fast feed. Lovely staff here who were fast, friendly and attentive. The food was nice. Pretty much the same as other speedy Korean meals I've had in the city. Maybe a bit less tasty than some other places but nice to have this option nearby.
However, I'm not a fan of the stools, noisy hard surface fit out and the industrial layout. I'd rather a bit more comfort if going out with friends for dinner and a good yack. I'd definitely go back for a quick bibimbap though.

Seoul Soul Minus. Cute place, good vibe & sweet service. Then, I tried really hard to keep the negative thoughts at bay, but it was a little hard to do on my experience. First, they were out of one of the dishes at 7pm? Then the "beef salad" we ordered had barely 5 strips of mangled beef atop a frisbee sized green salad with the odd additions of fruit. The crispy dumplings were a bit dry & finally, the beef bulgogi box was varietal and tasty but the bulgogi was incredibly oily & seeped into everything. There is no denying the price point here is a steal... You certainly get bang for your buck, but I'm not convinced it's the good kind.

A fantastic new addition to Northcote!. This restaurant is the new kid on Northcote's block - and to be honest, a much welcome & needed one. The Northcote area has long been in need of Some Delicacies of the Land of the Morning Calm - Crunchy, Spicy, fomented Kimchi, Sizzling LA Galbi or Bulgogi (Cooked in front of you), lovely delicate DaenJang Tofu and clam stew...The list could go on. My Bibimbap went down well with some Gochujang (Soybean Chili sauce) and I crave it now and then. Simply Divine! This place not only has a cool atmosphere with friendly staff but it has a no mucking around menu - classic dishes, some modernity, true earthy Korean dishes presented with style and great taste. My only issue is the seats being stools - quite uncomfortable and management need to look at this. Otherwise, a great restaurant overall that I'd love to eat at again. Well done - Aju Kamsa-hamnida ^--^

So seoul good!. We decided to visit Seoul Soul one friday night before a movie. We were lucky enough to get a seat quickly and near the window. The stools are high but very comfortable. The menu sounded wonderful, the perfect combination of snack and more extensive dishes. I decided on dumplings and a salad, my companions had vegetables and bulgogi. We all swooned with delight. Everything was perfect. Delicious, comforting and came out swiftly and smoothly. Really really sad i dont live in Melbourne because this food is sooo good.

Simple food, tasty food. Not many choices, but it's not a problem, there are a few typical traditional korean dishes. I have been there for 3 or 4 times, the services are consistent. I have to say I like it.

Response to Vegancritique's comment. Thank you for the comment Vegancritique, and we are sorry to hear any discomfort while dinning at Seoul Soul Plus. We are undergoing an investigation to find out what has happened to your vegetarian dish. Regarding to the comment that fish sauce was used to prepare vegetarian dishes, we clarify that no fish sauce was used to prepare any dishes we serve. We do confirm all the base sauce was made of vegetarian ingredients and depending on type of dishes, we add other ingredient accordingly when preparing a dish. To justify this, we do not keep any fish sauce in our restaurant. However, there could have been a chance that Hall staff member might have added Korean version of Furikake as part of added garnish that could have caused the discomfort, but we do train our staff not to add Korean version of Furikake to any vegetarian dishes.

We do apologize any discomfort caused to ruin your dining experience and we do appreciate your comment and thanks for letting us know your experience. We will make sure to train our staff member to improve our service and serve you the way you deserve. Please keep support Seoul Soul and we will continue to improve our products and services to make sure the dining experience at Seoul Soul is a good one.

Best Regards,

Seoul Soul

Tofu Marinated in..... As a vegan Seoul Soul had only one option which was Kimchi. and were not prepared to change any other "vegetarian" dishes to accommodate vegans, or for that matter vegetarians, If you are vegetarian please be warned! check the validity of so called vegetarian dishes because last night at the Northcote Seoul Soul, we found out that all the tofu used in various dishes were marinated in fish sauce without exception! yet were listed on the menu as vegetarian!. Super disappointing and really not up to par with such a seemingly contemporary restaurant that claims to be "NEW KOREAN STANDARD" Seoul Soul do your research on what vegetarian diet consists of before you make false claims on your menu.

I've had take away and dined in at Seoul Soul. Such yummy food we really enjoyed the steamed dumplings and vegie hot pot binbap and my partner said the beef one was great too. Nice cheap, tasty and relative healthy Korean food on high street. They'll finally be getting their liquor licence in a few weeks so we'll definitely return then.

No alcohol!. I was a bit surprised to get there and realise that they don't serve alcohol. That and the fact that they only have bar stools meant that we didn't linger. They looked to be almost full by 6.30 on a sat so I'm sure the high turn over suits them. I usually avoid eating where bar stools are the only option but I broke my rule so I could try this place. We had the fried prawn dumplings to begin and they were really really good. I then had the chicken hot stone bimpthing which was pretty good. I would try something else next time. My friend had the teriyaki chicken which was delish although he grumbled about the lack of chicken but that might just have been him being greedy.

The service was good and I liked how the waiter was very assertive about adding condiments to my dish, good job I like chilli. The place had a good buzz about it and I really liked the fit out. Would be even better if you could get a drink.

Loved eating here. Food was brilliant. Will be definatley be returning !!!!!!

Bad. We ordered different rice sets. The meat were too sweet, peppery and/or too oily. Flavours were very unbalanced, even the pickle that came with the seafood pancake. Pickle was too sour and pancake was dull.

We have had better Korean elsewhere.

Great value for money, great service and delicious food, loved the spicy pork dosirak (meal bucket), will definitely be returning soon!

Well presented, with yummy food. Have been there choosing a different meal each time, with each being as tasty as the last. I also recommend the Spicy Pork Hot Stone Bibimbap!

Service is prompt and attentive to detail - its always on our list for eat-out dinner.

Used to be ok..but now prices have gone up!! Food portions are small..not great Korean! Bulgogi is very bad...possible hygiene problem with meal buckets..they are wooden and split all around the inside base.. how can you clean that properly?

Thumbs up. Ridiculously cheap for absolute quality. Would definitely go back!

Simply awesome !. So glad to have this trendy, reasonable and friendly restaurant in town. Has got nice ambience, well presented dishes and warm service (A male staff remembered what i ordered before on second visit!). Just simply awesome!
Elliesays
Yes, more please!. Some teething issues with food, but otherwise good. Certain dishes are too salty (the mushroom stirfry), some too bland (the pork belly) and my Bibimbap rice just does not get crunchy on the bottom. However, these are really just minor issues and will not stop me from going back. Service is excellent and love the urban-industrial feel of the restaurant.

This is now our favourite place on High Street! We've been there five times. Each time I've had something different and it's been fantastic. Plenty of veggie options which is great for us too. Super friendly staff as well!
