Review Northcote Bakeshop - Northcote

Clint “Chemist” Meyer
Fantastic friendly staff, amazing baked goods, and lovely coffee. A must stop shop before the workday. Been other places but this the first where the staff warmed up the morning bun and wow it’s a game changer. Highly recommend!

Amazing pastries in northcote area. I order some of the pastries to to afternoon tea at home. My family loved it. Thank you for all the hard work.

Among all bakeries along High St. Bakeshop will always reign as supreme in my books. Coffee is always on point, baked goods and sandwiches masterfully made. Delicious, delectable, divine.

Wonderful staff and great bakery!! Cinnamon rolls are heavenly with perfect amount of sugar and oh so flaky on the top!! I love this place and highly recommend it as a start to a super morning!!

I just had an almond croissant from here that was probably the best one I've had IN MY LIFE! So crunchy on the outside, perfectly soft inside and just the right balance of buttery and sweet flavours. Next time I'll order a coffee as well!
Chelsea M
Great coffee and chai, and the country loaf is lovely. Really good range of cakes/pastries - the lemon myrtle scone in particular.

Tried Northcote Bakeshop for the first time and wish I had sooner. I’ve gotta go back to try the sweets but the savoury Vegemite scroll is we a nice starting point. Unlike scrolls I’m used to, it’s more crispy than doughy like a savoury croissant. The coffee and service are also both great!

The halloumi roll is to die for! Simply delicious. Coffee was beautifully made as well. Probably the best i had on High Street. Highly recommend!

I brought an almond crossaint and it was the worse I’ve ever tasted. It was stale and tasted a few days old
Dimmy Georgiadis
Nice little place with very professional staff. I enjoyed the pastries we ate.
The coffee was average but overall a good experience. Good place to duck in for a quick coffee and cake
AH
The bread here is really good, we always stop to get a loaf when in the area. The baked goods are also awesome, I’ve tried the scones, croissants and mince pies at Christmas time. The coffee is also great, given it isn’t their main business. Highly recommend this local bakery if in the Northcote area.

I called in here today for a coffee and a some breakfast. The service was really friendly and polite.

My strong skinny latte was ok, but unfortunately it wasn’t a double shot. It tasted really milky and quite weak.

And as you know I like a good croissant, and today it was ok, but it tasted like it was a day or two old. It wasn’t fresh.

And it had a lot of sugar syrup on top making it very sweet which was a bit too much for me.

Overall the coffee and the food was average and I was going to buy some bread but maybe another time.

I enjoyed a beautiful goats cheese + mushroom toastie and coffee here the other day (breakfast), while my husband ordered a muffin type dessert, which he loved! The service was fast and we were greeted by friendly staff who took our order. The place is cozy and buzzing with people at the same time. We had a great experience and would love to come back on our next trip to Melbourne!

Very disappointed with this place. We bought two scones this afternoon only to discover both were badly burnt underneath. No mention of this beforehand, bad decision and bad for repeat business.

It's a bakery ... my mistake.

And I ordered a latte ... sure enough 5/10 $4.00 ... cool looking Synesso in the back.

Impressive cafe timber furniture, rustic, cool young team baking stuff ... yes I will be back to try their baked stuff ... JT-17/04/2018.

Cute, but tiny little cafe with a range of freshly baked bread loaves availible. Limited options, mostly sandwich based, but very tasty. Minimal seating but I guess this also encourages people not to linger.

A cafe with excellent coffee that is always open at 6am (unlike some other cafes which state they open at 6 but don't). Recently discovered their hot cross buns too... very tasty!! The bread here is also excellent. If you are in the market for a tradie... get here early as it is a constant stream of friendly fellows in fluro work shirts from 6AM onwards :)

So many good places to eat in Northcote. Thank the god/gods/higher power this is one of them too.
Old butchers shop (check out the tiles) and slight hipsterisim make this the perfect spot for a great snack or breakfast. TRY the sausage roll, I beg you. Don't get in too late though, food sells quickly in this unique bakery. A fave
Irregular Joe
Tasty bakery treats and coffee. Opening hours are a real plus for coffee/food on way to work or on way home after night shift. Recommend trying the Halloumi burger.
Zac
Ordered 40 pastry treaties for a Sunday brunch on the Saturday. All ready for me at 9am on Sunday. Too easy. Great pastries too. Everyone was impressed.

Open early for a quick take away breakfast when in a rush! Nice sausage rolls and hot chocolate when there's time to eat in. Not my preferred option but conveniently located near a tram stop and open when other places are not.
Mae-Gene Yew
Really beautiful space, but really tiny and hard to find parking in the area. They have really nice pastries and bread though (but lacking in GF options). They also make a mean hot chocolate which I was really impressed with!
Crispymelbreview
Nice quaint little bakeshop in the upper end of High St; a tad hipster, but not on your face or ostentatious.
The coffee never fails to disappoint and occasionally I dabble in their freshly made variety of baked goods.
Never had a problem with the service.
There is a buzz of Motown Soul in the background enhancing the experience.
Nick Komo
Nice little cafe/bakery. Have been carbing up here for a few years 😈....
A good selection of fresh cakes, cookies, sandwiches and breads. Coffee is very good too.
Although the bread could be more fresh
Helen Fuller
So delicious. So so delicious. Good croissants are so hard to find but these guys have got 'em--dine in or take away. Coffee and service also great. I keep coming back.
Relvis96
The best scones in Melbourne - buttery and flakey. Small / limited seating so don't go with a crowd. Coffee is a bit watery. Lovely and sunny and nice outdoor tables
Snow
Great coffee, very smooth. This place would be great if the offered an organic breakfast to match their creamy coffee! Definitely nailed the coffee☺️
EK
Great staff, great coffee and really delicious pastries. Everything is reasonably priced and there is lots of options for vegetarians. One of my favourite places in Northcote!
Megan M
So far I have loved everything that has come from this bakery - brilliant burger brioche buns, perfect pastries and a super sourdough loaves!
Feed Me
A great local establishment in the Northside, serving up high quality baked goods at very good prices. The guys here are always friendly and serve up tasty coffees from 5 Senses as well. I always stop by when I'm cruising down high street.
Jennifer Witchcat
My favourite bakery. Amazing sourdough, delicious pastries and yummy sliders/burgers things. Oh and good coffee too. And the staff are always friendly and warm.
Bsitlington
This is my favorite place.
Beautiful sourdough products and cakes, and the coffee is sensational and consistent.
Keep up the great work guys!
Alex
Yumm. Best coffee and Danish in town. All the other food in the display and the bread looks awesome too.
Russo_lucia
Lovingly delicious Chai Latte's. The Chai here is made with love, I can taste it. So frothy and creamy - always the perfect temperature and the staff are lovely. Pranic bliss!

Best coffee I've rever had, in the world!. I drove past Bakeshop one day and was intrigued by this little place and it's striking branding. I didn't realise I was going to have the best coffee I've ever had in my life. I always say its about the roast and the barista, very true in this case. Its a small place, but has a good range to satisfy even the fussiest of us, the buttermilk fried chicken buns are amazing like their pulled pork. They have a good range of breads too. The staff are always friendly. Back to the coffee, I seek great coffee when i travel overseas and this is the best, amazingly fruity served at the right temperature, not scalding hot! The food is great too. Go there before 2pm they close early.
Ivana Cupcake
Staff aren't particularly friendly. Sausage roll had huge pieces of onion in it. A lot more expensive than when it first opened. Better places locally.
Gem07
Northcote disapointment. Such a great concept and cute fit-out, but sadly that's where it ends. The service here is appalling. I'm shocked at how rude staff were considering there is some hot competition locally. Coffee order forgotten, then was given a burnt latte instead of a cap. Sorry Bakeshop, will be going elsewhere for my coffee and bread next time.
Trudy De Silva
Love it!!. Coffee is AMAZING and they always have delicious sweets.
Love this place.
Hm
Ive been to the bakeshop previously for coffee and tasty treats and really like it.. but just had a sausage roll and have to say I was really dissapointed. Im not sure how long it had been sitting there for but the filling tasted like rubber. Never again im sorry :(
Stan
The Bakeshop keeps improving! The bread, cakes and pastries are very good and have this artisanal feel without beeing overpriced or feeling overly posh. Granola with fresh fruit and organic yogurt is probably the best value in town! Coffee is great.
Soktne Pinch
The pulled pork brioche is the best, you have to get in early to taste the greatness!
Hydomel
Don't like it anymore - coffee two consecutive times was burnt and arrivedcold - a disgusting combination. The froth on top was the coldest repulsive froth I've ever experienced.
Jen Dorjee
No longer impressed. I used to like this little place, but have tired of it. Why is everything on a sweet brioche? Coffee average. Tried the 'granola' the other day. It was museli.
Ok, and reasonably priced, but so much better around.
Pancreas
Bad Chai. Baked goods are quite nice but one of the worst chai lattes I've ever had.
JRB
Best coffee!. I just love this cafe - great bread, lovely cakes, friendly staff. Possibly the best coffee in Northcote!
TildaM.M
Great place!. Good coffee and cakes! Has got a relaxing atmosphere with friendly service. Recommended!
Sean Ashbrooke
Warm and hearty. I love this tiny place in a very quiet (for now!) strip of High street. It's warm and seriously dedicated to turning out delicious pastries, biscuits, bread and coffee. The staff are happy and genuine. Have an almond croissant ...I insist! The BEST I've ever eaten!
Dave Buckley
So good it's ridiculous. Great sandwiches, sausage rolls and addictive cookies (salt caramel and peanut).
Simon Yeo
A poor selection of pastries considering the name. I felt a little let down.
Littlepuski
Morning start. Great coffee and early starts. Best spot for last coffee before hitting the snow roads.
TheFly
Delicious, made with love & great variety. The soup maker is truly gifted.
Maiken Hansen
Great!. Great little place. Amazing decor - yummy bread, cakes and good coffee.

The girls working there are SUPER nice - love this place.
Yummo
Fantastic little place. Lovely decor, attentive staff and yummy coffee!
Bella
Delicious!!!. Love their Buttermilk chicken bun, and the chocolate chip biscuits!!
SBMTH
Worst coffee ever. I have been here a few times with the hopes that my last visit was just a one off bad experience, but the coffee is always bad and the times I have ordered an empanada they took ages and were cold in the middle. the place a few shops south on High street is much better.
Han Plummer
Bad coffee!!!. I was really excited to try out this little and cute bakeshop as I had read and heard great reviews, but upon taking a first sip of their coffee I was not impressed at all.

I ordered a cappuccino and what was delivered to me was far from that - it was a flat mess of sour milk and bitter coffee - I've honestly NEVER had a worse coffee in my life! I felt sick after taking my first sip and could not drink what was left in my cup - I think the staff seriously need lessons on how to make coffee properly as well as how to clean their coffee machine - pronto!
Carly D
Best Bakery in Melbourne! Love the coffee, love the hot chocolates and their avocado and fetta croissants are to die for!
Mike
Was going to order a pastry for breakfast but after you slammed down my coffee and yelled out the order rudely you can f$&k off.
D
Fantastic coffee and service. Super fresh food.
Edi
Bakeshop. Sourdough bread nice, could do with a little more salt.
Great coffee, yet to try the chai.
Amazing homemade sausage rolls that is served with great tomato relish with a side salad. Tabbouleh is best of tasted.
Best chocolate tarts. Girls serving have always been polite and helpful.
Samosa & Chutney
Freshly baked bread and service with a smile.
Good variety of breads and they really know what they are selling.
Wendy Simons
Will try again... Like the idea of this place, but found the coffee just ok, and the pastries way to sweet.
The Beard Eats
Great baked goods!. I keep returning here to try their assortment of baked goods. Recently we got their fruit and nut loaf to take home and it was fabulous.

I've tried their coffee (5 senses) twice and both times it seemed slightly burnt, however their hot chocolate is definitely worth a try.

Go there for baked goods - maybe somewhere else for coffee.
Emmilio
Great coffee! Always fantastic each time we go! Only negative is the counter lady always walks off to deliver coffee order halfway through taking the order, leaving you halfway through giving your order just standing at the register. This has happened several times and its quite annoying. Why not take the whole order first instead of rudely walking off while customer is still speaking or excusing yourself first. Other than that, cakes are good, awesome vegan/gluten free selection and will always return for coffee!
Helen Gardner
OMG..best soup sandwiches sweets but best of all AWESOME hot chocolate just the way it should be that real coco bitterness ..I LOVE it and can't get enough. The staff are beautiful I want to live here..if only they'd let me...bfn
Gustavo Heisenberg
The Coffee never fails....service with a smile everyday. Also the croissant with ham and Swiss cheese is a big vice of mine. Get in there
EllaBella
FantasticCoffee. I had one of the best coffees, I have had EVER here at this quaint little bakeshop in Northcote.
Well worth the trip. Staff were friendly and well mannered. Not too hectic and did I mention they do a great coffee? Il be back.
Melbourne Mel
Top quality. I tried the Bakeshop for the first time this weekend and I wasn't disappointed. Their granola is delicious and they make a mean coffee.
Gen
Fruit loaf. Love the fruit loaf, coffee is moderately good. Haven't tried much else.
Fatchops
Love it. Small yummy selection if sweet and savory goodies. Some a little unexpected like empanadas and whoopee pies. Very reasonable prices too.
Organic Mama
Excellent vegan and gluten free cakes. Rarely you come across a bakery that does vegan and gluten free well and at the Bakeshop they do it well, there is nothing fancy about the cakes and the prices are not not fancy either which suits a single mum, nothing is mass produced here there is always someone in the kitchen baking something in the oven, this place is what a bakery should be all about, the coffee is 10/10 every time i go there.
Lam K
Exceptional bakery with great lunch selection also. The pork roll with curry made with brioche made my day.
Sarah
Coffee here is exceptional and worth the visit just for that...the staff lovely, sourdough bread great and the sandwiches very healthy option with mushrooms, beans and beetroot additions a nice touch..good value prices..wonderful addition to Northcote.
Laknie Peiris
Happy Customer. The pork rolls are absolutely delicious. Normally I don't like sweets but the cakes and cookies at northcote bakeshop are fantastic. Great customer service, will def go back there.
Scott King
Delicious. I have been to northcote bakeshop a number of times now.. It's a bit of travel time from my house but well with the drive.. I have tried a number of pastries ,rolls and cakes and have loved everything I have tasted so far.. The customer service is fantastic and always friendly and the prices are very cheap especially for the quality of food that you get there.. The coffee there is honestly up there with the best I have had aswell.. Great job guys.. Keep up the great work..!

Unsure on this one. Been here a few times now. Coffee is always yummy, however I'm not convinced on the food. Croissant was not flaky and buttery like it should be, but was more like a bread roll! And the spelt bread is super super dense and not very flavourful.

The fruit bread is exceptional though.
Richard Froard
After buying a Northcote Bakeshop 'sourdough' white loaf around 2pm on a Wednesday, I can recommend Coles Northcote pane di casa for freshness and texture
Hunga Pains
Not great. I want to like this place because it seems so sweet and I like the idea of it...modernish local bakery where everything is baked on site. The cakes/pastries have way too much sugar, i've tried at least 7 different types and haven't loved any of them. Coffee was ok. I think i'm done with the place. Might check in again in 6 months time.
Ben
Pulled pork roll with relish was amazing and the fruit loaf was absolutely delicious! I will be coming back to try more!!
Andrew Nicoll
Really yummy bakery food and coffee. Food is good quality and very well priced. The pulled pork roll is exceptional. Coffee's are great also- presentation and taste. Overall great lunch and we'll be back next week.
Nomnomnom
Not sure. Decent coffee, however, unsure about the food - bland and tasteless... will give them time to work out their issues or won't go back
Kattstar
Great bread and especially the fruit toast! Amazing!! The empanadas are a little tasteless though.
Gee
Great Bread in Northcote!. I am thrilled that finally Northcote has its own quality bakehouse. The coffee, the scones and the fresh loaves of sourdough are all top quality. I look forward to enjoying my fresh, locally baked bread every weekend. YEAH!
Rosee
I had a lovely coffee and pastry there. Prices are very reasonable, hopefully they are not introductory prices.

Northcote Bakehouse is situated on the smacky end of high street (571 High Street to be precise) ... lots of boarded up broken windows and real estate hoardings ... the Thornbury end in other words (ok I'm just trying to fake some drama here!) ... c'mon this is Northcote/Thornbury!!
