Review Mexican Street Food By Little Flock - Northcote

I can't even describe how amazing the food and drinks are here. Lovely cosy environment with a fun vibe! The birria was phenomenal and consommé complimented it perfectly. Get in quick for this limited winter menu so you don't miss out on one of the best dining experiences I've had in a while. Compliments to the chef 👩‍🍳

Rolled up with no reservation on a Friday night. Despite this received a warm accommodating welcome and although there was no available room in Restaurant, we were ushered out to the ambient court yard, which was a blessing disguise. Food was outstanding! Portions were generous for the quality and far outshines conventional Mexican themed restaurants. Jamaican Margarita highly recommended. Will definitely be returning.

Such a lovely place! We had the set menu. The empanada and Huarache were delicious! The owners are very nice people. Great music 🎶!

A not-to-be-missed dining experience in the inner north! The team's passion and commitment to authenticity shines through in their technically proficient and diverse dishes, and also in the vibrant atmosphere of the restaurant space. I don't normally enjoy Mexican food but am very glad I gave it a shot!

Delicious Mexican food like you've never had! The dishes are full of flavour, nice ambiance, particularly the courtyard in the back. I highly recommend the Michelada as well.

I wouldn't say I'm the biggest fan of Mexican food, however, this place surprised me. The ingredients were really fresh and the dishes were full of flavours. They were also served rather promptly as well. My favourite was carnitas tostadas, the pork was so juicy. The atmosphere was vibrant with friendly staff. The restaurant is very spacious with more space at the back. Most of all the foods were cheaper than my expectations. Highly recommended!

The food’s really good here but the service was less than optimal. Little Flock has changed radically. It now serves what it calls Mexican street food. The restaurant decor is excellent. Bright, breezy and attractive. We had the back room which was lovely and quiet. Later in the night they put some nice Mexican music on. We were a party of seven and were very happy with our dishes tonight. We started with the Tlayuda which was fresh and delicious. The only problem I had with this dish was having to share it. It’s a beauty. We all had different tacos and tostadas. Variously tried by our party were the caramones (with prawn), carnitas (with slow cooked pork) and verduras (with beans and zucchini flowers). We then shared tacos. We tried the beef and the pork tacos respectively. Both were excellent. Our wine was the Red Hill Pinot Gris, a great choice with the food. This is a fresh and vibrant restaurant. Mexican can be very hot and miss in Melbourne but it’s done very well here. The service tonight was frankly a bit weird at times. It didn’t match the vibrancy of the place and fell a bit flat. The good news is that it shouldn’t stop you coming here.

Like always the best food. I'm Mexican and here it is the only place that with one bite takes me back home, authentic Mexican dishes with authentic Mexican flavours

Very tasty and large Tlayuda. Also had Tlacoyo. Super friendly service. Very good value for money too. Restaurant seems fairly small-must get packed earlier in the evening.

Super disappointed with this place. First time in my life that I didn’t enjoy a Mexican restaurant. They claim to be all original but owner was so unwelcoming and staff couldn’t explain their own menu. Dish was as cold as the service. Flavourless food with nothing original about it. So sad. Also - when it’s winter in Melbourne and your walls are open... could have turned the heater on at least a little bit. This place has huge potential to step up their game!!
Lovely little cafe with great food. Definitely worth a visit. I liked that the menu options were a little different than other cafes in the area, and super yummy!

Update: Little flock has recently reopened as a Mexican Street Food restaurant and it is amazing. I went with a friend who has travelled a lot in Mexico and she said the flavours are really authentic. We had the Pozole Rojo and it was seriously delicious! Great vibe, good music, nice wine/beer list. Still the same lovely owners. Will definitely be back.
I love this place and it’s my favourite cafe in Westgarth. Miraslawa (the owner/chef) is really lovely and accomodating. It is hard to choose from their menu but there is always a delicious soup. The Chai is really good and comes brewed and served in a big teapot.

Small portion is the issue here ...

Great prominent location on High St, Northcote, fantastic set up and serene ambiance.

Small Batch coffee beans and La Marzocco combo, well made, awesome coffee, be it pour over or latte.

Comes with fantastic service from the girls too, thank you ... I need two eggs on that Sweet Potato Hash please ... JT-30/06/2018.
Where Will We Eat
We finally decided to wander over to Westgarth and check out Little Flock this morning. Certainly glad we did. A great little spot for weekend brunch, with a nice variety of options. Given it was perhaps one of the last really warm days for this year, I couldn't go past the smoothie bowl. A great balance of sweet and acidic fruits made it a refreshing option. Coupled with a cold brew, I was a happy girl this morning. MIL went with the shakshuka and loved them! Definitely worth a visit.

Great place for a breakfast or brunch. The service is friendly and quick, anticipating all your needs. Beautiful interior with a great courtyard covered for the rainy days. Food will surprise with the refined tastes and absolute freshness. And let’s not for get the coffee to die for. Highly recommend!

Had a great filter coffee and scrambled breaky here, the staff are super friendly and the decor is lovely, the back courtyard is amazing!!! Great place for a coffee and some food, can’t recommend it highly enough.

What a gorgeous space!! The walls are the most charming shade of blue and the little decorations everywhere add a great touch of character. There is a beautiful courtyard - covered!! - in which to enjoy the weather, and the staff are so friendly and very attentive.

Matcha chia bowl was delicious and filling, refreshing and not too sweet for a hot day's breakfast. The coffee is lovely - by Small Batch roasters, and made expertly. Pour over was nice and clean with a beautiful body to it, while the long black was bright and punchy.

One thing I loved about the menu was that it had a lot of novelty - not just the same three egg dishes you see elsewhere. I'd certainly return and I wish the team the best of luck getting this place off the ground!

I've been to this cafe a couple of times now. Staff are friendly and passionate about their food. Quality ingredients are used allowing the flavours to shine: smoked bacon was fantastic, bread was lovely and nutty, real butter used and eggs cooked well. The coffee is small batch and probably the best in the Westgarth strip. Don't forget to get a raspberry and chocolate brownie to go.

This is now my favourite Westgarth cafe. The service was quick and friendly without being intrusive. My strong cafe latte came in a small pottery cup, which was unexpected, but I loved the feel of it and the coffee was mellow, well flavoured and the right strength for me. The sweet potato hash sounded interesting and didn’t disappoint. I usually find cafe breakfasts too big for me and this serving size was just right. One piece of toasted sourdough on the side with a knob of butter that had softened nicely with the heat of the toast. In a hot cast iron dish was cubed sweet potato, kale just starting to wilt from the heat, studs of bacon and a mild garlicky flavour topped with a nicely cooked poached egg. I scraped up every morsel. I’ll be back to work my way through the rest of the menu.
