Review Cuppa Turca - Northcote

Kyng Star
Great little place with authentic Turkish desert and coffee. The place has unique ice cream flavours. Kunafe is cheesy and awesome. Turkish coffee has a rustic robust taste.
Foodie Trekker
Awesome place best Kunefe in Australia. Very cheesy and stretchy just the way I like it. Great customer service . Very packed place. They have maras ice cream which is very good. Both are must try.

At Cuppa Turca Dondurma, there are various dessert options and I went for the sorbet range. I decided to try a lemon and dark chocolate sorbet and was impressed with the taste and serving size. I especially appreciated the friendliness of the staff at the time. I would consider coming back another time!

One of Northcote gems. Their Turkish icecreams were delicious with good level of sweetness. Highly recommend to order pitachio flavour! Absolutely loved their teas and Turkish coffee. Kunefe was not my favorite from them.
Mary Jane
Beautiful vegan knunefe with delicious dark chocolate sorbet. Service was divine and the team were very friendly and accommodating. Will look forward to coming back.

Baklava is great. Location is okay Hot drinks are okay. Staff are friendly however when it gets busy hard to find staff and slow service. In overall good place to go to finish the night. We have been there many time.

Northcote now has an authentic Turkish cafe where you can get sweet deserts, ice cream and Turkish coffees. I ordered mastic coffee and it was amazing, it went so well with the sweet pistachio deserts. It was a perfect way to end the night with something delicious. Honestly skip desserts at restaurants and just come down here. I highly recommend the place for you to check out.

Bruv this kunefe is the most authentic experience you gonna get here in Melbourne. I literally put my head phones on, played atmosphere sounds like seagulls on the Bosphorus, closed my eyes and ate the kunefe. I felt Like i was back home in Uskudar ❤️ the ice cream is also 10/10

Great little spot.

Feel very lucky to live close by Cuppa Turca! It immediately became my local coffee place in Northcote. Beautiful!!!

Hands down the best Turkish kunufa I’ve tasted. Friendly service too. Loved it, cute little cafe which is relaxing just for a coffee date! Kid friendly too and prices are not bad. I’ve been dreaming of this dessert since 😊

A nice cosy small cafe located on a busy street. It was quite busy but girls at the counter were quick. Kanafeh was scrumptious but serving size was a bit small compared to the price.
It was freshly made and melting in mouth. The icecream served alongside was divine!!
Pretty much everyone was having their icecream which I will try on our next visit.
Emily
Delicious sweets, great ice cream and coffee!

Really delicious künefe and baklava, lovely teas and coffee! I was looking forward to trying this place, Although I was disappointed as they were really quite unfriendly almost rude :( I think hipsters would enjoy this place otherwise you might not fit in. I’ll probably stick with my regular market
Devil In The Detail
Very polite, quick service, cosy and homely environment. Turkish coffee was nice but Kanafa was the highlight. Would recommend to friends and family!

Best place for Turkish ice cream - my fave, black sesame and Turkish delight - my fave, pomegranate & pistachio. Yummo. Wish they open a bit earlier for morning tea treats.

What a fantastic place! I am in love with the turkish shows and wanted to try the Turkish coffee and stumbled across this one..and what a delight! Keneffe is a must have and so is the Turkish delight ice cream. Be back soon!

Got introduced to this fine Turkish establishment, and was definitely impressed. The Kunefe was bomb! Crispy cheesy and sugary yet each mouthful was dancing in my mouth. Whilst the sweetness may put some off, the bitter Turkish coffee will just do the trick. And yes if u are going with more than 4 persons on a Sat night, be prepared to wait. Everything else, keep calm and wait for your turn to have this sweet treat!

A homely and chill turkish cafe. The staff are very welcoming and attentive.

Turkish coffe is served in a small cup and very aromatic and strong in flavor

Salep is very velvety and creamy in taste, made from a tuber of an orchid.

Turkish icecream that stretchy, sticky and aromatic. Tried the Pistachio,Feta and melon, and chocolate. Amazing icecream thats full of flavour .
Astrid L
Son keen to try the stretchy Turkish ice cream x 3 flavours with Turkish Delight the standout favorite. I could not resist the Turkish Heaven, a baclava, ice cream and floss delight. Dark rich Turkish coffee the perfect counterpoint.
Ruba
Best kanefe i’ve ever had and i’ve tried some in Istanbul and the middle-east! They brew their traditional coffees on hot sand. Tried the wild pistachio coffee-like drink recommended by the staff which was delicious and unique-tasting. Friendly staff and unique flavours.

My Key Three Pointers
* Turkish ice cream cafe with other delightful treats.
* Simple design, not over the top and fits the Northcote vibe
* The only place in Melbourne to offer the most authentic Turkish Ice-cream

Cuppa Turca reminded me of all the things I loved about Turkey. Ice-cream sandwich in a wafer, Baklava with I e-cream. My all time favorite hot Kunefe which is a crispy noodle like pastry, layered with cheese topped with pistachio and a hot sugary syrup. This place screams Turkish delight.
The ice cream is the center point and it’s different from your traditional Ice-Cream. It’s super stretchy, smooth and melts at a very slow rate. The taste is delicious and I would recommend trying the plain flavor to get a sense of the natural taste and texture. If you don’t have a sweet tooth then try some Turkish coffee made on hot sand or try the various Turkish Tea options on offer

Ice cream to die for here!! And beautiful Turkish coffee and other beverages. The service was fast friendly and always served with a smile. Will return!

I feel like places like Cuppa Turca are very important, not only because they represent the unique cuisines of their country, but also the diversity in Melbourne food scenes. Cuppa Turca is a really good example. From the service to the food, the way things are delivered makes you feel like you’re really travelling to Istanbul. I tried their Turkish coffee and Baklava. Interesting coffee to my tastebud, and very sweet baklava, which when enjoyed together makes a really good combo.
Nalia
Really good Turkish ice cream, which is more stretchy and chewy than traditional Italian ice cream. Also tried the turkish delights which were really nice and not overly sweet. The staff are great, very helpful and they encourage you to try the different flavours. Recommend.

Wonderful ice cream. Wonderful people. Been there many times and have never been disappointed. My fav flavour is the vegan tahini ... it’s insanely good. The Turkish coffee is also amazing!
Quince And Cheese
I can confidently say that Turkish ice cream is now my favourite type of icy treat, beating out gelato and even ice cream sandwiches. The ice cream at Cuppa Turca is stretchy and a bit chewy, as I'm sure you've heard if you know about this place. This is definitely a selling point.

Another pro is that unlike other Mediterranean sweets, the ice cream is not too sweet at all. It has a great depth of flavour without leaving you feeling burnt out on sugar.

I sampled many flavours, but settled on the vegan Turkish delight, which was sort of reminiscent of a cotton candy/bubblegum ice cream. It was good, although not nearly good as my partner's tahini scoop (topped with crushed pistachios!!) which I was severely disappointed I didn't get.

Another amazing flavour was the feta and melon- not nearly as gross as it sounds. It's creamy, only slightly salty and satisfyingly fresh. The vegan black sesame was also great. I can't wait to try more next time, and then justify my purchase because the shop is on Liven (meaning credit back on every purchase). Although at $5 for a single scoop, Cuppa Turca is competitively priced and well worth the money.

When I stepped in the shop, I was feeling like in Turkey. Little potteries with traditional Turkish decoration. Order the Turkish coffee, tea and sweets, yummy. Best things combined with coffee and tea. Not really sweet compared with other Turkish cafe which is good. Like the sand cooking bench. Will go back to try other sweets.
Hello. Imnikki
4.5

What's better than a baklava? A baklava ice cream sandwich! Also known as a Turkish Heaven, it's heaven indeed. The light and flaky baklava, the crunchy nuts within the baklava, the smooth creamy ice cream and the fairy floss all did their part to provide contrasting elements of texture and flavours.

Also tried the kunefe and wow is all I can say. I thought the Turkish Heaven was great but the kunefe was next level. Crisped yet chewy on the outside, and stuffed with stretchy cheese inside. It may sound like a weird combination but don't knock it till you've tried it.

I personally preferred the halva ice cream over the hazelnut ice cream, as the hazelnut flavour was a bit inconspicuous.

The Turkish coffee was brewed over sand and it was interesting to see them making it. Lovely strong and smooth brew, it definitely hit the spot.

This place is a definite ‘after dinner’ go-to. I’ve been there twice and I really like the ice cream as it isn’t super rich and sweet, which is good after a heavy meal.
It’s not like your average ice-creamery, the ice cream is a little chewy but still a little creamy. It’s different but good. You can get their ice cream (dondurma) in an wafer ice cream sandwich which I really enjoyed (it’s good a marshmallow like cream in between it). I’ve tried their peanut butter baklava and their rose turkish delight, both great. The chai here is one of the best, so you better CHAI this place out (sorry I had to)!
Hazal78
Such a great place loved the atmosphere, beautiful desserts!! Will definitely come back, wish it was bigger! Loved the baklava and fairy floss.
Kelly Belly
Fabulous ice cream. Made so it’s very dense with no air in the mix. Creates a unique texture that is almost chewy. Lots of interesting flavours including rose and halva. We tried pomegranate and pistachio - both delicious. Lovely guy behind the counter who was only too happy to talk about the making process and give us a taste of the many flavours.

Visited this lovely little place for an after dinner baklava fix. We are not disappointed! The baklava was superb (we had the original) and we ended up having some ice cream too since they generously let us try many of the flavours. The pistachio, tahini and chocolate ice creams were all smooth and delicious. The people serving were courteous and polite and the decor was gorgeous! So impressed with this place and very happy we stumbled upon it. Will be going back to try the Turkish coffee!

Nice little shop to grab Turkish desserts. We came here to try their special stretchy ice cream which was delicious! Unlike normal ice cream this ice cream is milky and silky

Great flavours! Can find very unusual flavours as well as classic ones. Highly recommend mesir and black tahini.
Plus for the friendly staff!

Recently travelled to Turkey and had the pleasure of tasting a Turkish specialty called sticky icecream. Even in Turkey I found the degree of stickiness to vary from one place to another. General rule of thumb, the stickier the better, and that is what I got at Cuppa Turca. It was delightfully sticky and the variety of flavours a real treat. Regarding flavours they had a smorgasbord of flavours that I have not experienced or seen in Australia. On this occasion we had the Tahini and Mesir macunlu, the latter I would describe as being close to chai latte in flavour. Both beautiful in both the richness of flavour and the stickiness of texture. Loved it!
Peter
A nice place for a nice Turkish style coffee with a little touch of Europe. Ambiance is an old rusty look with many ice cream serving options such as, in cup, between a Turkish helva, in baklava, etc...

Cuppa Turca manages to stand out on an already high quality strip of High Street, Northcote. Deliciously stretchy and delicately flavoured Turkish ice-cream (dondourma) sits next to intense coffee brewed over a heated sand pit.

We've been here nearing 10 times now and have always had an excellent experience. There should be queues out the door in summer, but luckily for us there aren't! We've chatted with the owner a number of times and he has a evident passion for sharing quality food.

Every flavour has been tried and tested (choosing is really hard!), but our favourites are halva, pistachio and feta/melon. Tastings are generous, which helps eliminate buyers regret ;) The flavours have great clarity, and there is only a hint of sweetness. Chewy and stretchy, the dondourma is a unique experience which can happily coexist with neighbouring gelatos, and more than hold its own.
Ratio Decidendi: We came to try the Dondurma, a Turkish ice-cream whose thick and stretchy characteristics lend itself to all sorts of pranks and trickery by vendors on the streets of Kahramanmaras where it originates. As I was about to finalise my flavour choice though, 4 magical words on the menu stopped me dead in my tracks:

Cuppa Turca | Northcote

This is a Halva Ice Cream Sandwich from Cuppa Turca in Northcote. What is it you ask? It’s a generous serving of Turkish ice cream (which is rich and stretchy) inside a baklava, topped with crushed nuts and Turkish fairy floss. All I can say is YUMMMM.

This cute little dessert will set you back $12.50 and is meant to be shared between two (did I hear someone say cute cheap date idea?!?!). It is the perfect little treat to finish off a great meal if you’re on High St and the location is cozy enough to make a dedicated trip like I did to sample some of their Turkish coffee or tea!

I would definitely be back, and so should you if you love anything Turkish or just have a sweet tooth that needs a good fix!

I went here with my girl friend and we had an amazing time here!

Really enjoy the Turkish dessert - the ice cream was really stretchy and not too sweet !

Recommended for a date night as the ambient was really cozy and romantic

#vegan halva ice cream and #vegan Turkish delight with rose petals - loved it. Each time j come back, they seem to have expanded their vegan options. I really hope they will consider going all-vegan!! As it will greatly enhance the menu even more!

I've tasted the rose, organic chocolate and the mastic ice cream....OMG! Loved it so much will be going there again very soon. The service is warm and friendly. The interior is well thought, it almost felt like I was in Turkey. The Turkish coffee was well made. There was no kunefe left which does state in the menu that it's seasonal but would love to try it sometime.

Great ambiance, great quality and great food.
I strongly advise this authentic experience to everyone. Relax with a coffee or refreshen with the specialty ice cream, you will not regret it.

We went to Cuppa Turca a couple of weeks ago on a Friday, mid-afternoon. It was quiet and the owner went through every single dondurma flavour, explaining how each is made and giving us a taste of every one. What a delicious experience! I ended up ordering the rose and pistachio - which tasted like actual pistachios, not just like your usual pistachio-flavoured ice cream. We left with two take-away cups, which we greatly enjoyed walking down the street in the sun. So good.

I eagerly dragged my husband all the way to Northcote just to try the dondurma here and it was wonderful. We tried pistachio, mastic, halva, chocolate and plain. Loved it.

I have been missing chewy Turkish ice cream since coming back from Turkey, then here comes Cuppa Turca!!
Warm and friendly service, and the texture of the dondurma was spot on. The baklava was probably the best I have tasted in Melbourne. Highly recommend this place!

Love the vibe of this place. Was so amazed by the hot sand they use to make coffee. ☕☕
THAT DONDURMA TEXTURE IS AMAZINGGG. Chewy and stretchy. love love love love it. 💕💕
We tried 3 flavours: traditional, rose and pistachio. Really loved the traditional one. SO GOOOOOOOD! 😍😍
Service is amazing too! The guy in charge was so friendly and showed us the stretchiness of the dondurma. He also gave us samples of flavours before buying our scoops.
Will be back to try other flavours! 🍦🍦

We had a wonderful experience at this cafe. The owner is a lovely man who seems passionate about his ice creams and coffee. We tried a dessert that included baclava and a couple of ice creams. It was Turkish heaven. We have also tried his Rose petal ice cream, which was delicious. This cafe has a lovely ambience, and the desserts are creative and innovative. Highly recommend this place.

Cosy self-effacing spot with traditional Turkish touches throughout coordinates an inviting hangout for a late night coffee and cake.

Post dinner I came here with the family and I was merely amazed with all the lovely ice cream options within.

Picking the below things:

Cakes:
• Baklava

Ice Cream:
• Halva
• Rose
• Grapes & Molasses
• Pistachio

Drinks:
• Latte
• Cappuccino
• Turkish Coffee

Enticed by various concoctions of baklava, this establishments one was not sticky and unbearably sweet. It had a beautiful colour and perfect layer balance but out of everything a delectable flavour to it. I actually didn't feel bloated and or sick after. My only criticism would be it was a small serve.

Having never been a fan of processed deli halva I wasn't a fan of this places halva ice cream. It tasted very similar to it. My brother absolutely loved it. It was a little gritty to be honest which I didn't like unfortunately.

The next flavour I was waiting for a hit of rose water and I didn't get it. Don't get me wrong I commend the overall ice cream texture but that's where my praise ends sorry.

I loved getting unique things and this next flavour of grape and molasses was one cheerful combination. Each spoon full was pure indulgence. The balance of grape and black treacle was out of this world. The refined sugar component worked perfectly with the add of sweet grapes. Huge points for this flavour.

The composition of pistachio was cleverly done in the last ice cream I had. Great hint of nut, wasn't overpowering which I liked. A great ice cream with my Turkish coffee, it was also very creamy and luscious to my palette.

The latte and cappuccino looked great and well executed I have to admit. They were praised by my family.

Turkish coffee was done by sandpit which I found to be an element of rarity. Crockery looked great. Small portion though I have to declare however it did pack a punch. Very strong which is the way I like it.

One little criticism:

• We were seated out the back on the couch and steel puffs. We were told when the couple leaves the front big table we will be moved to drink our coffees and consume our sweet selections. That didn't happen which I found not right.

Ultimately a modest chill zone offering onliest ice cream collections and traditional Turkish coffee and spirit.

Do yourself a favour and get down here! The Dondurma (Turkish ice cream) is delicious, and some interesting flavours are on offer. The mastic flavour I particularly liked (flavoured with the sap of the mastic tree). Feta and melon is another. The place looks very stylish and clean, and it's got a nice warm and relaxing vibe.

Great vibes once you enter cuppa turca. The only authentic Maraş ice cream in Melbourne. Great Turkish coffee cooked in the sand pit. Must visit
Yusuf Ozen
The only authentic Turkish maraş experience in Melbourne. Unique flavours made in-house weekly. My favourite this week was the Turkish Delight and Pistachio-Anatolia flavours. Had the Turkish coffee to top the experience off... Overall, great place for desserts and Turkish tea and coffee.
Matt
Had a Turkish coffee the other day. It was small and strong. It was made in a sandpit that adds some drama to the whole process. Not a cheap coffee so it wouldn't be a daily one for me like a latte. I'm very keen to come back and try their ice cream which is the authentic Turkish chewy style. Another great option on High Street!

Update: My wife had a latte here and thought it was the best coffee on High St. I’ve also tried the ice cream and it was chewy or stretchy at all - odd. In balance the score stays the same.

Visited cuppa turca absolutely amazing the ice cream is great and please try the baklava... Turkish tea was on point reminds me of Turkey.. keep up the good work..

This brand NEW Turkish inspired Maraş ICE CREAM shop is the most exciting place in the area. Was greeted with a warm welcome, a quick little insight of everything in the shop by the owner as we tried the flavours they had on offer. Traditional, ROSE, Halwa, Molasses and Vegan COCONUT are the ones they had tonight. Personally had a mix of the traditional + rose + halwa, you taste the little pieces of halwa that mix with the wonderful rose flavour, and the traditional balances it all out without being too sweet.

You have the option of cups or cones so there's a combination for everyone. I must say, it's quite good and the flavours are nearly identical to one you would have in Turkey.

A lovely rustic interior that made us feel very comfortable and relaxed while sipping on some Turkish Coffee made in hot sand and trying some homemade gluten-free Turkish Delight. They mentioned that they'll have some more sweets kicking off as tomorrow, like Kunefe 😍. Quite warm inside for those worried about visiting this winter, you don't feel the cold at all.

Verdict: I'd say spot on for something that's been open for less than a week. Friendly staff, warm and welcoming environment, plenty of seating arrangements for an ice cream shop, and some really good ice cream. Will definitely return.

I only had an espresso this time but I will definitely come again for some desserts and Turkish delights. The vibe is great, awesome place to meet friends and enjoy your drink!

I was walking by the store before it opened everyday, wondering when it will open and watching it being create. I went yesterday and the minute you go in everything is so perfect and well thought. Decorate with thoughts and recycling pieces, makes a really cool vibes.
Then I tried the Turkish coffee brewed on hot sand. I am very picky when it is about black coffee cause you can't cover the taste with milk it has to be well done, and it was. Very flavory. It is for sure a go to.
Then I had some baklava 😍, pistachio & walnut, really good, homemade, not oversweet just perfect. And I finished my visit there by a tea and a tahini pastry (which I forgot to take a picture of) soooo good.
I would totally recommend this place if you like coffee and want to try new things, travelling for a few hours in a really cool place where you feel the owner put a piece of him in it.
Will be back!
Ignacio Nicolas
I tried the coffe made on hot sand "traditional Turkish way" along with A nicely decorated baklavas.
The coffee is amazing some how. The way is made on the sand give the coffee an even taste in your mouth,if it is your first time Id recommend to put some sugar on it. Baklavas are simply out of this world, not too dry not too much honey, just perfect, all fresh and for sure made with love and dedication.
I'll come back for sure, if I pass by northcote it will be a must to go.
Thanks guys keep maintaining the quality.
Emir Sağır
I visited this place today. Really exciting to have somewhere where we can finally eat homemade baklavas and strechy turkish icecream. It has a very good vibe and extraordinary ice cream flavours such as Halva and grape molasses. Such a diffefent experience. This place will be quite popular!
Yasmin
I've been to this place a few times now since it has opened and absolutely love it! The icecream is delicious and there are some crazy awesome flavors! If you go do try"Halva" or "Molasses", just tastes soooo good! "Rose" my absolute favorite, so make sure you give that a go as well! You also can get an icecream sandwich with wafer halva! A must try!
If you end up going too early for icecream, they also serve "Sweet tahini pastry", which goes great with a turkish tea.
I am usually not a fan of baklava, but the one I tried here was really nice, not too sweet or overpowering! And I do need to mention the "turkish coffee". A must try for every coffee addict.
The interior is inviting you to spend a lot of time here, it is beautifully decorated and creates a great atmosphere to spend with friends.

✅ This Turkish ice cream (dondurma) is absolutely amazing. It's such a unique texture compared to say gelato — it's stretchy and a touch chewy. You really need to try this out!
✅ The flavours of the dondurma are wonderful, they are not overpowering, but are rich enough to satisfy! My favourite was the Rose and Molasses & Walnut. The rose is not overpowering, it is subtle but such a wonderful flavour. The Molasses & Walnut is nutty and earthy! I was extremely impressed.
✅ The cafe itself is beautiful. There is a wonderful Turkish feel - there is plenty of different spots to sit. There is the lounge area, benches, a big long table and regular seating.
✅ Lots of Turkish desserts to try out and wonderful Turkish coffee.
✅ The owner is amazing - he truly wants you to come by hang out and enjoy yourself. He is very friendly and happy to chat!

Do yourself a favour and head on down there! I cannot recommend it enough!
