AMAZING fish and chips! Best ever! My family got the normal fish (english whiting & flake) and loved it so much! The chips were perfect too. Personally I got the vegan vish, and it honestly is the best cheap vegan meal ive had for ages. The vegan scampi and the vegan dim sims are also to dieeee for. I really missed fish n chips, so thank you so much Northcote fish n chips for providing.

How amazing is it that you can find VEGAN fish n chips!! I was so excited to try this place and was not disappointed.
We tried VEGAN FLAKE, BACON BUTTY, plus fries and potato cakes and mushy peas of course!
The Flake was great! I love how thick the 'VISH' is, and the flavours were on point. The Bacon Butty was also delish, with some tangy BBQ sauce. Fries and potato cakes were cooked to perfection. And those mushy peas were the perfect addition of something green to our fried AF meal haha.
I definitely want to go back and try the fried choc bar... and some more vegan options too.

4.5 stars. I like the fish and chips here. The fish is fresh and the chips are done the way I like it. The calamari rings are also pretty spot on. It is probably not a place to dine in because the interior look pretty tired and there is a thick air of stuffiness and "fried" fish and chip smell in the restaurant. But don't let that put you off from ordering takeaway. Overall, good food, reasonable price and good service. I will be back for more.
We came here about a month ago. When we arrived I didnt have very high expectations. This place has a classic fish and chip shop look but their food is something else. We ordered flake, which was so fresh and cooked perfectly, the calamari rings were amazing, so fresh and were battered just before cooking, a nice surprise as usually theyd be frozen! The chips were great as well but the potato cakes were the stand out. Home made and incredible. They have really friendly staff and great service, even had a beer while we waited for our food to be cooked. Will definitely be back!
Simple interior but fish chips as it’s best. I like playing pinball game there while waiting for fish to be ready. Fish is fresh and thin crisp batter as it should be. Really big succulent calamari simple served with creamy tartare sauce taste homemade. Big thick cut chips gives that classic fish and chips taste. Staff friendly and relaxed. Try their vegan Thai cakes unreal! Even carnivore me liked it! Service taste ambiance and food quality against price gives an overall score of 4.6*/5
Brilliant fish and chips! Calamari is stand out, love that they have scampi and their curry sauce is amazing! They have an awesome range of vegan food too and the service is top.
Came here to try the vegan menu. Loved the vish burger, the bun was mega good and the vish was great, though probably could do with just 1 piece of vish, more lettuce and sauce and reduce the price. But they did give me extra sauce for free when I asked for it which was nice! (the tartare sauce is great) the aioli I think is just praise fat free mayonnaise, not a fan, they should use garlic vegenaise or vegenaise and mix in some garlic. The chips are great but not cheap like a traditional fish n chips shop. The vegan dim sims are nice but waaaay overpriced, like 3x the price of the meat ones, smaller and doesn't even have Vegan meat in them, just mushy veg. Which is nice but I'd like to pay like 90c for them lol. Wouldn't get them again at the price they are now. But I'd like to come back and try more things :)
This is the day I have been dreaming about. When regular shopping strip fish and chip shops get into the vegan fake meat game. Not at all disappointed.
I love this place!! The only vegan fish and chip shop available and i am so grateful it exists. The food was delicious and fresh and we were given special drinks and vegan fried mars bar. Could not criticise the hospitality it felt i known them for years, thank you Stuart.
The best fish and chips I have had in Melbourne. Superb quality fish wrapped in delicious beer batter and fried to perfection. Gravy and Mushy peas are a must addition to your meal here! Consistent high quality food at a good price. Highly recommended.

Northcote fish and chips is excellent. The veggie pumpkin burger was awesome - a really nice pattie and delicious sauce. Last time, I had the fish. I’m not sure what they are doing, but the batter is great. It’s light, crunchy and super tasty.
On a side note, I love the theme. A traditional English restaurant in northcote. I also loved he aussies beating the poms and reminding the owner Stu about it. I love this place and will be back.
This place sells such great fish and chips - not too oily, crunchy batter, juicy fish and generous servings. Love coming here, have never been disappointed!
This is a very quirky mix of Australia and British fish shops! The man behind the counter was very friendly when I asked about some items on the menu, so I ordered one of the packs with flake, a potato cake, a dim sim and chips. I ate in and their décor is adorably old school. I received two pototo cakes I'm not sure if it was because they were small or he just does that but either way I left satisfied. Will be back when in the area!
So happy to find a great fish and chip shop in Northcote finally! Lovely fish, calamari and homemade potato cakes - very impressive. Even the mushy peas were delicious, despite my initial reluctance. Friendly service and great value food. Service a little slow, but definitely worth the wait. I will surely be a repeat customer here.

The standard of fish and chips in this establishment,since the new owner has taken over, has improved amazingly. Best house made potato cakes I have ever tasted and chips cooked to perfection. Great to find a good old fashioned fish and chip shop that are nailing it.
I am a regular at Northcote Fish and Chips, where the food is cheap yet high quality, the customer service is always fantastic, with a wide ranging menu, including vegetarian options. I particularly like the 'salt and pepper squid', which tastes amazing and is beautifully presented. The 'burger with the lot' is also great, and the homemade potato cakes are delicious!
I highly recommend a visit!

These guys are the best - the most friendly service I think I've ever had, my burger with the lot was fantastic (proper burger with real bun, tasty beef patties and fresh salad), and they even let me stay to eat it past their closing time while they cleaned up. Totes awesome!

Finally! Someone that gets it! British fish and chips is as iconic as the great Aussie Barbie and here's a place that understands that and delivers! The new management clearly understands the tradition and has the pedigree of the next generation restaurateur. The customer service is welcoming, social and helpful. It really felt like they cared about what they were doing and valued their customers.
Overall, a great experience and one that I am keen to return to. Just one suggestion, if the management would like to take it onboard, is to perhaps 'Jamie Oliver' things up a bit and maybe offer some alternative fish batters like cracked pepper and sea salt, beer and English mustard or crushed almond and cous cous? and for the full British experience, get a jar of pickled eggs, a jar of pickled wallies and see if they can source some wooden forks. If wine could be put on the menu, even if it's bring your own, then this would really make it a night out!
I went to northcote fish and chips after a long days work. I was tired and all I wanted was some quick fish and chips. When I looked at the menu I was amazed to see that they had salmon so I got that with some mushy peas and small chips! OMGGGG... the salmon was cooked to perfection and the mushy peas were to die for. Not only was the food cook well, quick and staff were lovely! The whole experience really made my day and I went home satisfied.
I've been living in Melbourne for 20yrs and have yet to find a chip shop that serves curry sauce with fish and chips and this place does. The food was great and so was the service if you don't believe me ask my kids ( and they're a fussy pair).
Great fish & chips and EXCELLENT service. Surprised food was served on plates and cutlery. Will definitely return soon. Kids loved it too and they are the harshest critics.
Friendly and quick service, chips are just like you average oven chips you could make at home. Fish was decent, although batter a little soggy. Calamari was very tasty.
I probably would not go back, but i've had worse.

I am quite fussy about fish and chip places. I would highly recommend this one for the vegetarian options, the deep fried mars bar and because they also claim to cater for vegans and gluten free diets as well. This is not fish and chips as I knew it as a child. Fish Rock offers old school charm with a modern sensibility.
Good, consistent Fish 'n' Chips!. I work around the corner from this place and order regularly. The food is fresh & consistent every time and the owners and staff are friendly.

Northcote Fish & Chips have various seafood options, mock seafood (vegan versions), snacks and deserts. The staff are extremely friendly and appear to care about accommodating customers desires from my experience. I believe the food is very tasty (even the mock seafood). I would recommend for those around Northcote.
Hands down the best fish and chip spot you’ll ever hit up, don’t let the size of the place fool you because the food packs a mighty punch. I will say, that I’m a vegan and am super enthusiastic about the entire vegan menu and always look forward to coming in and trying something new. And yes - the vegan fish and chips really do hit the spot, geniuses over here go give it a visit!

Remember those greasy fish and chips that leave you feeling bad? Well, with Northcote Fish and Chips, forget about that completely. The place offers locally sourced fish from Lakes Entrance that could be served in a fine dining setting. We also tried the vegan fish which was a delightful surprise and we look forward to more next time. The fried food is delicious and not greasy in the slightest. We also had side salads that also hit the fresh and nutritious mark. The unique mashed peas are something that remind me of the time I spent in England. Stuart goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and welcome and his lovely, generous character creates a really warm atmosphere. Arguably the best fish and chip experience in Melbourne.

Amazing vegan menu that was 11/10, so good to finally be able to have plant-based fish and chips again that was just as good as i remember the original being. Staff was also lovely. Definitely coming back.
