Review Sigiriya - Northcote

Samir Idris
Hello, I went there on the 14th of February for lunch. Ordered: - Dosa - Biryani - Samosa - Samosa Chaat Following is what I found wrong with the restaurant: - Unclean cutlery: I got it changed - Samosa chaat was served in a greasy plate. I asked the waitress to change it, she went back and moved the samosa chaat in another plate and said last plate was greasy cause it was made in the kitchen or something along those lines and kept arguing too. I paid for it but left as it as can be seen in the pictures i.e. paid for nothing - Dosa was not up to the mark - Rude Staff: On showing how bad things were and that this is not how things must be, waitress said, "we serve people every day and know how it should be". A fantastic response :) I can live with sub-par food taste and even unclean cutlery as I know it can be a very difficult business to run BUT staff being rude specially when you are the one that is paying? Thats a big no no. I would not go back to this place even if it was the last restaurant standing in Melbourne. Advice to the owner: Please train your staff. Regards, Samir Idris

One of the best restaurants in Coburg to offer authentic Indian , Malaysian cuisine .. One can experience the flavours of South Asia in this restaurant..

Flavoursome and authentic. We will definitely be back. Eggplant curry is excellent!

The only Indian/Malaysian restaurant worth the time! We are always satisfied with the meals, never left hungry. When we order medium spice it is actually spicey! Our usual order is the Chicken Kondattam, Tikka Masala, plain rice and a plain roti. The chicken is very good quality. It is always juicy and they never use those small, dry chunks of chicken breast like other restaurants do. 10/10

Went this place a lot of times between 2017 -2018.. definitely loved the briyani and roti and curries.. my friend recommended me this one no wonder i also loved it. Product portion was huge tooo. Only thing I want to see is bit of cleanliness in the restaurant… definitely would go back here If i every go to Melbourne again…

Authentic food - wonderful service - a little noisy but that was caused by so many people having a good time.

Srilankan food is similar to South Indian food as they use the same spices. So I took my mum and dad for dinner. I am not a fussy customer and always give the benefit of doubt incase something is not right. Unfortunately our experience on this particular evening was not the best. <br/><br/>For entree we ordered Masala Vada with Sambal which was nice. For mains we ordered hoppers(Appam) with fish curry and cashew curry. The Tuna was quite smelly and very dry. The cashew curry was very salty. The service wasn't the best as we got the hoppers well before the curry and they went cold. <br/><br/>I guess this is a family run business and hope they improve on service & quality of food. They are in a great location with massive potential.

Came here with a couple of friends, atmosphere was a bit dead and very quiet. The lighting is a little off putting being all red and such. Ordered a lot of dishes, only thing I really liked here was the Mango Lassi, and the Garlic Roti. The beef was extremely dry, the cheese kathiu was decent with the lamb ontop, the Tuna was extremely dry. The eggplant dish was nothing special. The price is a big punch for the quality and quantity of food you get. Staff was great though.

When you walk in the door you are greeted by the smell of delightful spices. The food was very, very good. One entree came out in a timely manner, but, unfortunately the second entree came out at the same time as the main course. The goat curry is yum, but the real delight is the 'egg hopper'. The egg is light and smooth, the yolk just runny enough and mixed with the curry sauce is amazing. I would go back, but would not order so much food.

Amazing food. I have only been to the banquet on a Friday night and it was great value- so many different curries, entrees, sides, roties, sambals, etc etc to try, plus a dessert, and all so delicious and authentic. Staff were lovely and helpful with describing what each dish was. Plus they have BYO. Looking forward to coming back here.

Authentic flavors from childhood, it sure was a symphony of memories reawakened, reliving many happy occasions from home. Agree with other comments, don't forget the hoppers, the contrasting textures and tastes makes it an absolute delight! Still can't go past my favorite String Hoppers with Potato and Chicken curry with Coconut Sambal - hard to believe this was had for breakfast!

Food is authentic Sri Lankan & buffet on Friday & Saturday is good value. Don't forget to order hoppers it's so so good. Price very reasonable. Staff friendly but you need to call them & they will not come & ask you anything. Guess not trained in hospitality. However food is good & clean interior. Even imported beer was $5. Overall rating 4.2*
Mmmfood!!
Amazing food at this family owned restaurant. We've been here multiple times now and the food is always fresh, delicious and totally authentic. Service is quick and always with a considerate smile. Totally underrated!

I was so happy when I found out the people who owned the now-closed Sheni's Curries were still cooking away and had moved back to Sigiriya.. and the food, unsurprisingly, does NOT disappoint!! Don't let the relatively low rating average fool you - just look at how high the recent ratings are and know that the food is AMAZING. Just so full of flavour. And unique - this isn't Indian food. Plus almost everything is dairy-free, which suits my lactose intolerant self to a tee :-)<br/><br/>Definitely my new favourite northside eatery!

Deserves much more than a 3/5 maybe because it only has a few reviews, if you look at the reviews below it's much better than a 3/5. Something different to Thai and Indian. The food is made with a lot of care and love. The buffet on a Friday and Saturday is excellent.

This place is good and the food tastes pretty authentic. The Friday and Saturday night buffet is good value and they make the egg hoppers to order for that so definitely ask for those.

My first visit since they reopened. The Friday/Saturday buffet is even better than it used to be. Far more extensive, good range of options for vegetarians and meat eaters.<br/><br/>The staff are so friendly. Not crowded. BYO a bonus.

Excellent Sri Lankan home cooking at a great price. Sri Lankan cooking is like Indian crossed with South East Asian cuisine. Get the buffet with the Sri Lankan hoppers. Lots of heat in the curries and lots of vegetarian choices. I don't understand how the rating is 2.9 when all the reviews rate it much higher.

The last time I ate here (a week or so ago) it knocked my socks right off. Quality harakmas curry, kickass pol sambols and egg-celent hoppers. Plenty of heat too.

Sigiriya has a great selection of Sri Lankan food to try. It was my first visit to a Sri Lankan restaurant and I was definitely not disappointed. The food was very flavorsome and the staff were terrific.

Best cheap restaurant on High Street! Have eaten here multiple times since it changed hands in January 2016 - consistently excellent food. Both a la carte and buffet are delicious - bread/hoppers, biriyani, string hoppers and curries. Authentic food that takes me back to Sri Lanka. An absolute stand out!!

Absolutely delicious! Wanted to check this restaurant out because I was a loyal customer of Shennis in the city (which has closed and the lovely people have opened up this restaurant). Wonderful Sri Lankan food (we had the banquet which I would normally not go for, but it was unbelievably good!) amazing sambol, wide array of curries and fresh made hoppers (including egg hoppers) delivered to the table. $5 beers too! Can't wait to come back. Highlight of my 2016 dining year thus far.

It's fantastic to see this very affordable Sri Lankan restaurant back on High St (albeit with new owners)!! The simple decor has been freshened up beautifully and the menu is very similar to the old place. Best of all is the banquet on Friday and Saturday nights where it's all you can eat and as many hoppers as you like all for $25!!! So delicious and fresh and the service is so friendly and efficient. If you like it spicy head to Sigiriya!

Restaurant and service freshened up, a must for spice and flavour lovers. Friday and Saturday $25 banquet great value! Not for those who don't like a bit of heat.

Beautiful food, very rich and tasty! The buffet is definitely very well priced for all you can eat, with many different dishes to choose from. The service was lovely and staff were very friendly. Definitely recommend, you won't be disappointed.

What a delight! Came to this restaurant with my partner and friend, we were all taken on a exotic and spice journey! Having been to Sri Lanka the food at this resturant replicated the smells, texture, spice of Sri Lankan food and we were certainly pleased. The staff had big and gorgeous smiles as they led us to a table and were very helpful with regards to choosing from their array of curries and accompany sides. We will definitely be coming back!
