What a wonderful place located on Magill Road. Firstly to be welcomed by the owner/chef was really lovely. The staff are just amazing. Polite, professional and attentive. Service was really great. The menu is just fantastic. We both settled for the prawn & scallop special in a lobster sauce with angel hair pasta. A generous and beautiful dish. A really lovely dining experience will definitely return. A real gem in a great location.
Insane insane service and food best garlic bread Ive ever had dont have a bad thing to say at all the chief is a absolute legion super friendly felt like i was in Italy again highly recommend.
Had such an amazing dining experience here! Loved the rustic feel of the restaurant and beautiful scenery painted on the walls. Khalil was excellent. He came out and explained the menu to our group of 30 people and checked in to see how we were going with the food - both during and after our meals. I have never tasted such a delicious Napoletana sauce! Highly recommend :)
EXTREMELY friendly!! The chef came and greeted us and thanked us for coming! Love this place!! We ate off the vegan menu! I love that there's multiple menus!! The food is sensational!!! Highly recommend for anyone who is vegan!
Decent Italian food. If you live nearby give it a try but probably don’t go too far out of your way. We had garlic bread, bruschetta, the chicken Milanese and some kind of seafood pasta (plus dessert of course). Good sized serves as you would expect at an Italian place and good service. The menu was different to the one on Zomato on the night we went (no pizza 😰) but still a good selection with even some vegan options.
Went to the Kensington Park locationStaff were friendly and attentive but not intrusive. The owner chef Khalil came and spoke with the diners which I thought really special. The food was lovely. By the time we were leaving the restaurant was beginning to fill up and I understand why, it was a great place to go food, service and atmosphere were great. My recommendation go, go and go again.
Just had dinner there and my, what an experience! I highly suggest getting the platter to share it was awesome! The garlic bread is awesome and their butter and bread is sick! The bolognese was a disappointment, they used angel hair pasta which didn't do it any justice. If they switched it to something would be wayyyy better. I did also try my friends Baked Ziti which was sooooo amazing I got total food envy. I'd come back for that and the bread...and the platter hahah! The girl that also served us was bright, bubbly and so friendly, she made the whole service and experience 10/10
Amazing! The food was delicious, the homemade bread and butter, was so yummy. Highly recommend! Not that many seats so you might need to book a table before going. A+
Delicious! Have been meaning to try this place for a while now - finally booked in to the new Kensington Park restaurant. Firstly, I think it's important to recognise the staff. The service was great. Our waitress was absolutely lovely! It was also a nice touch to have Chef Khalil come and visit our table on arrival. The food was just as good! Beautiful home-style, comfort food! Both my main and dessert were impressive! The creme caramel was amazing - I was tempted to order a second one for takeaway! We will be back!
Heartwarming is the only word I can use to describe this place. It really makes you feel that your nonna is with you. Fantastic service !! The food is good ; home cooked Italian food at its best. The restaurant is small so I would recommend booking on a Friday or Saturday night or if you have a big group
Tomatoey, cheesy goodness! 🍝
Had a wonderful dinner here with friends tonight. Huge meal and very tasty. We all left feeling very satisfied. Not the prettiest looking meal but rustic, good, honest, tasty food. All of us were very happy with our meals and enjoyed the eggplant rolatini, eggplant parmigiano, veal and prawn parmagiano, vegan meatballs and puttanesca. Garlic bread was also delicious! Service was wonderful, very attentive staff, with the owner coming out regularly throughout our meal to make sure all the tables were happy. Food was served quickly. Will certainly be returning and taking friends with me!
I would recommend going to Nonna and I if you like friendly staff and vegan Italian food.
We were looking for somewhere to celebrate my sisters birthday who is vegan. We decided to try this place. We are so glad we found it. The staff were so amazing, friendly and accommodating. We went for dinner and it was not busy at all.
went there with a friend (we're both vego). normally there's just a couple of choices for us, but the menu was quite extensive even for us! the service was lovely, friendly. my only complaint (and this is because i work in hospitality too!) was that they do need a little more product knowledge! but the food.. good lord!! it was truly incredible! the mushrooms entree, the pasta (we had the baked ziti and 'prawns' with capellini) and finished off with the tiramisu. I would 100% go back again! must visit for good vego italian!
Solid lovely rustic Italian food.
Great wait staff, very friendly.
Chef spent lots of time saying hello to guests in the dining room.
Small, tight seating, but that kind of place that you just don't care.
First time here tonight... have picked meals for the next 2 visits!
This place is super small! So make sure you book in advance. On peak days they only do two preferred bookings 6pm and 8pm to not overwhelm the kitchen, but I managed to talk my way into a 6.30pm booking.
The service is quite good! The staff are nice & the food came out quickly.
I came here for a date & we are both vegan so we ordered from the vegan menu. The vegan menu has quite a few delicious options! We ordered garlic bread for an entree and I ordered the Tofu & Spinach ravioli and my date ordered the creamy tortellini. The garlic bread reminded me of when Pizza Hut used to have "dine in" all-you-can-eat restaurants! It was super good, but obviously a little higher quality! We enjoyed both of our mains & they were topped with a few slivers of some vegan cheese (not sure of the kind) but it was the perfect addition and tasted really authentic.
The only downfall would have to be the prices as it does fall a little on the expensive side, but it's lovely for a nice night out!
Italian done right, nothing like we have seen before. Chef and waiter were one and the same. Could not have asked for a friendly more entertaining service. Bruschetta was tasty and tangy. Prawn and scallops capellini was rich and flavourful. Have booked our next visit already.
Yum yum yum! Great little spot for a midweek dinner. I've been here twice now and the pasta is on point. Had the lobster bisque last time which was bloody awesome with creamy seafood goodness. Had the veal and prawn pasta (say what?), but again just worked so well. Generous portions too. Service is super friendly and helpful. Can't wait to make this my go to Italian.
It was the best Italian food I have ever had, great service, and the food is making me hungry just thinking about it. I would highly recommend going there!! The Bruschetta was 11/10, I could live on it.
I love this cozy place for a good pasta! Amazing tastes, friendly stuffs, good services. What can I complain of? Ordered veal and prawn pasta from the chef special section, never thought the veal and prawn can be cooked in the same plate and make the taste so divine, highly recommended this place for a dinner date with your special someone.
Such a hidden place at Norwood - another small Italian cafe with fine dining table setting inside. This place is quite small, tables are limited - make sure you book or ring them. Somehow when I walk in, I feel like they flew me to some places (not entirely sure if it's Italy cause I haven't been there) but I don't feel like I'm in Adelaide. Apparently, the chef is cooking food from grandma's recipe the way how grandma has done it (nonna means grandma).
Services - very friendly staff. Very efficient waitress. She is the only waitress in the cafe but she runs miles serving all customers and making sure everyone is happy. The chef was very friendly too, he will come and check on the customers asking if everyone is happy with the food, help around serving wine. They do make you feel very welcome in this cafe. Food and drinks served pretty fast.
Food - I love arancini. Was a bit disappointed they don't do arancini. Entree didn't catch my attention so we decided to jump straight to main. My gf had spaghetti bolognese and I had fettuccine puttanesca. Serving is huge!! I'm glad that I skip entree, especially the bolognese it's so big that it can be served for 2 but oh well I'm not complaining for the price I'm paying. My favourite dish is the fettuccine puttanesca - perfect balance of saltiness from the anchovies and olives with the sourness of tomatoes. It was yummmm. That's not all, you can't walk out of the place not having their tiramisu. It's one of the best tiramisu - it would have been perfect for me if there's a dash more of liquor and stronger coffee. The texture was perfect - the layer of cream and sponge was just nice.
Drinks - they have a fair list of wine but didn't take much notice as I was there for early lunch. Will definitely check it out when I'm back for dinner or long lunch when I can enjoy a glass or two.
Love this place. Definitely will come back. Do stop by and pay them a visit, you would leave with a smile I believe.
Sometimes the passion that you see in someone that inspires you.We dined at Nonna and I last night (monday night) and i have to say the food was great.
The only thing that let them down was the wait for food. Partly excused by the fact they didn't expect to be so busy on a Monday. The waitress mentioned that she had expected to be quiet with little bookings by late in the afternoon. This is a small venue (25-30 people max).
The wait for food was worth it , and the chef PERSONALLY CAME AROUND TO EVERY TABLE and spoke with diners and apologized for the delays. He spoke truthfully and with passion of his business. He didn't want anything bad or rushed to go out. I commend him.
Its the little things....

Nonna and I is tucked away down a side street off the Parade. The restaurant is very cosy and you can smell the food cooking away in the kitchen. We were one of the first diners there for the night, service was amazing. As more and more diners walked in, the immaculate service continued throughout the night. Check out the beautiful in house menu!! The restaurant offers meat / seafood / pasta dishes, with vegan and vegetarian options.
We had a gorgeous anniversary dinner at 'Nonna and I'. Friendly, attentive service, warm atmosphere, and some of the best Italian food I've eaten. Chef's philosophy, of inclusion around the table, means that the restaurant provides a vegan menu (as well as catering to paleo and gluten free requirements). This worked well for my (vegan) and my partner's (pescetarian) needs. (The vegan garlic bread and tofu mock prawns in a spicy tomato based sauce were delicious.)
I will happily work my way through their generous vegan menu items!
A fabulous little find. Nonna and I is small, but what it lacks in size it absolutely makes up for in heart and character.
Khalil the chef came out on multiple occasions throughout the night to talk to his customers. It's clear he puts so much of himself into this place and the outcome is remarkable. He had us smiling, laughing, eating and enjoying ourselves like nothing else.
F O O D
ENTREE
I had the Mussels.
Heaving with garlic and basil in a tomatoey sauce those fat little guys packed a punch in my mouth. Served only in half the shell meant they were easier to manoeuvre and I was less likely to cover myself unnecessarily in tomato sauce.
MAIN
Prawn and veal pasta special.
Who'd have thought prawns and veal went together?
Never a combo I've tried before but WOW yum.
I'm talking veal, prawns, capsicum, broccoli, onion on angel hair. The creamy sauce had kind of baked on some of the veal. Perfectly pink prawns, veal cooked beautifully. It was a lot of different elements to have on one plate, but it did go.
Carpeted floors and even the lower half of the wall means you can hear and have conversations (what a blessing). The walls are painted in a bit of a mural and there's a tiny tv in the corner showing a loop of pictures of Italy and videos of Khalil cooking.
A nice wine list and really lovely service ties it all together. A special, personalised night. Definitely a place to revisit.
We have been at Nonna and I twice. First time by accident, and second time booked. It is a small cosy restaurant. Did was tasty, adequate and the sauces were fantastic. We also had fresh bread, and that was soft and warm. Chef came around and said hello on both occasions, which we found pleasant and welcoming. Will be coming back.
Tempting Palates was invited to dine at the newest Italian restaurant in Norwood, Nonna and I at 1a Margaret Street. The first thing we noticed was how intimate and cosy it was. Head Chef and owner Chef Khalil Rashwan was our gracious host and we were in for a fun filled, flavoursome night of Italian food. His motto is "Come hungry, leave happy" and we certainly did!
Nonna and I is a tiny restaurant down a small side street on The Parade. we went for lunch and had an excellent meal with personalised service. The chef came out and talked to us afterwards asking us if we enjoyed the meal and telling us something about himself. i had the salmon special on roasted veggies and my husband had a delicious rump steak with garlic mash and mushroom sauce. he was very impressed. they are most busy at night. Its a quiet restaurant with Italian music. Good for a peaceful evening when you can hear one another. Recommended. they deserve to do well.
Come hungry, leave happy. That’s the motto of Nonna and I and what any Italian would expect from a traditional meal cooked by their beloved Nonna. This restaurant, situated on a side street off the Parade in Norwood, makes you feel like you are dining in the Italian countryside. You can expect to be greeted by friendly staff and an occasional visit from the very smiley Chef Khalil who will make you feel welcomed like no other.
When you meet Chef Khalil Rashwan’s his exuberance is noticeable – about his cooking and about his restaurant, Nonna and I. He’s sharing his philosophy – “come hungry, leave happy’. Originally from Alexandria, Egypt, Khalil grew up learning his away around a kitchen from his mother and Nonna. After moving to the USA at age 15, he learnt from Nonnas in Lower Manhattan’s Little Italy and opened his first Italian restaurant in Pennsylvania in 2002.
Some weeks back we were invited to dine at a newly opened Italian restaurant. Tucked away on Margaret Street off The Parade Norwood, Nonna and I have taken over a spot that once housed an Indian takeaway. It was a small group of us and Chef Khalil was there to give his warmest welcome. The night continued with good food, laughter and many anecdotes, an experience he wants every diner to have.
Our team at On the Chopping Board (OTCB) had the pleasure of attending a special four course degustation at the brand new Italian restaurant to grace the streets of Norwood – ‘Nonna and I’. All food and drinks were provided by Nonna and I. Pricing for dishes has been provided where it was available at the time of the review.
went for lunch with no expectation except they had vegan as an option, my friend is a recent vegan and want to try something other than a cafe which most vangan places are. what an amazing place, we were so well looked after, the wine list is small but good, the food, brilliant and not hurried out, we had the chef come say hello and made sure we were happy, great for date night or any dinner, im going back this week !!
We tried Noni and I to celebrate my joint brother's 50th and 41st birthdays. We booked for 10 people at 5:30pm as we had young children. We arrived and were seated towards the back which was well planned to ensure the children would not get in the way of other patrons.
Chef Khalil came out to greet our table before it became too busy. He was lovely and wished my brothers a happy birthday. Waitresses were happy and looked after us well with drinks and food. Drinks came swiftly as did our entrees. The restaurant quickly became full. It was really quite lively and a happening place for Saturday night. Everyone's meal came as expected without delay. Fresh ingredients and cooked beautifully. Would I recommend Noni and I - most definitely.
Will I come back when there are so many great restaurants in Adelaide to try - most definitely.
Do I want my family and friends to know about this hidden treasure - of course.
Unsure what a previous reviewer is referring to with their blatantly unhelpful and narrow minded opinion, they've clearly set up their account for the sole purpose of dragging a name through the mud. Nonna's and I's head chef Khalil served the four of us some good food, albeit a little delayed but I didn't mind because I was surrounded by quality conversation. The restaurant was busy and I could tell the kitchen was under the pump. I'd like to point out at this point that I was dining with an exceptional Italian cook.
In his words 'Just like Nonna - throw it on the plate and eat it' . Hence, there not being much to write about in terms of presentation, but made up for with the intense, rich sauce flavour I've become accustomed to with home cooked Italian food. The house music may have been the same 10 songs on repeat, a little annoying. Staff were friendly and courteous. Khalil himself came to our table and made us feel very welcome with his spritely, charismatic self, bearing his heart on his sleeve with his love for food and the people who dine within his doors. I'd certainly like to eat here again to solidify my opinion, until then I'll continue to suggest to friends that they go to Nonna's grandson's for dinner. She'll appreciate it.
If you would love to go out one night and have an authentic Italian meal, look no further, this is the place to be. They have a variety of meals, to please the hungriest of palates. The service is magnificent, and they cant do enough for you. We will guarantee that you wont be disappointed, and without any doubt the owner loves his job. WE WILL BE BACK....and thank you so much for the beautiful meal and friendship Laurie & Wynn Farrugia
Fantastic food and great atmosphere. The chef who I think was the owner is very friendly and helpful and comes out to talk to his customers. Definitely enjoyed my dining experience. Highly recommended
Absolutely incredible service. Highest quality food. Fantastic atmosphere. I have been back here multiple times and it keeps living up to the high standards it has set for itself. Chef Khalil gave us the most wonderful service, he even custom designed dishes to fit our culinary requirements, and was just an all around hilarious and fantastic person the entire time. There is a fantastic range of meat dishes, seafood dishes, vegetarian dishes, and an entire page of Vegan dishes! I can not recommend this place enough.
Nona and I was delightful. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was amazing and everything tasted so fresh. You could tell that this food was created with love. I highly recommend a visit here.
We had a great time and enjoyed the experience, will be back.
We had a family lunch there today. Chef Khalil welcomed us back - we last visited more than a year ago, and a couple of times at the old location.
Service is excellent.
Food is great and the menu is extensive. Dishes are made from fresh ingredients and all uniquely spiced; Italian or Italian inspired.
The wine list is fine - I am not an expert - and there are other drink options as well.
There is a 3 course deal, which puts a limit on what you pay for food.
The menu would benefit from drink recommendations.
Pleasantly surprised with this place! The food was exquisite! The chef personally served us & he was really welcoming!
The place could use a touch up, but nevertheless we had a great dining experience!
Salmon was great! Beef cheeks was delectable
I have now had the pleasure of both a takeaway pizza and dining in here. Pizza dough is the best around. Chef Khalil made our family feel very welcomed tonight in our first dinner out in years. Happily catered for 4 kids (and entertained them with his banter!). The beef cheeks are simply melt on the fork delicious. Thank you!
Nona & I was the first restaurant we went to in Adelaide and left us wanting more. Our waiter was incredibly welcoming and friendly, he made our experience phenomenal. His knowledge of the menu and wine was impressive, whilst his presence made our experience that much more comforting in an unfamiliar city. Not only will we be back for the food, but for the service as well.
Well, what a discovery! We were invited to Nona and I by best friends to participate in one of their (typically pretty large) family celebrations. My wife and I hadn't been to Nona and I before because it lies on the other side of our city. But wow, aside from the event being great, the food Nona and I prepared was beyond just good - it was spectacular. On finishing as much of my main course of beef cheeks that could be humanly retrieved with knife and fork, I found myself unashamedly asking for a spoon. I was not going to waste so much as one precious drop of this sensationally tasty dish, cooked to melt in your mouth. And the family atmosphere of this restaurant moves it from excellent to perfect. If like me, you live a distance from Kensington, never let distance deter you. Any travel, no matter how far, to eat at Nona and I is absolutely worth it.
